Say, Thom, what do we get for a natural 20? :D

The Chelaxian version of a a Tony Award, I think.

Marius already took his earnings in ample loving from the diva.

Neat! 'Cos I got a Nat 20 on my last check ...

Expert 3/Slacker 4/Layabout 2

might be travelling/work for today and weekend.

Expert 3/Slacker 4/Layabout 2

may have trouble posting for a couple days.

Expert 3/Slacker 4/Layabout 2

Just got my work schedule for the near term. If the estimate is correct, I need to put in about 160 hours over the next two weeks. You know something's going to go wrong. So I'm putting the games I run on hiatus for 3 weeks. See you then.

Osirion

Some dude

Hopefully you are getting overtime for this! Or perhaps hazard pay!

Either way, try not to strain yourself or pull something (which I always seem to do when I work too many hours), and we'll see you when the crazy has passed.

This IS the internet you know ... Alegedly human Expert (IT) 5/Ninja 3/Witch 7

O_o 160 hours? Wow. Well we can all be patient!

Expert 3/Slacker 4/Layabout 2

Back, but work is still a mess. I'll try to post as often as possible. Someday, I promise I'll be back to a decent posting schedule.

Yeah the 160 didn't happen. I can't do it anymore. That's partly why I'm still working tons.

How long will one lemure last? Will it make it through the round?

Really the only tension is wondering who's going to put it down.

Expert 3/Slacker 4/Layabout 2

Dabbler, Hogarth. I know your PCs got the short end of the stick on the payout. I'll make it up to you somehow.

Note: this is a really rich payday in the theater. If you make it a career don't expect this on a regular basis.

I'm not worried about a few hundred GP. Now, if you were handing out Staves of the Magi and Cubes of Force... ;-)

This IS the internet you know ... Alegedly human Expert (IT) 5/Ninja 3/Witch 7

Hey it's not so bad! One of the better payouts so far! Now we need to go kick some shadow-monster butt...unless something else comes up...

Osirion

Some dude

Given the nature of the scenario, a 55 gp. payout is probably pretty generous for what Zarabeta put into it.

Plus it's nice to have some spendin' money!

Male Human

I am going to be without a computer for the next few days due to a combination of a friend's wedding out of town and some brief but much-needed vacation/rest sort of thing. I will be back come Monday. Please DMPC Raven as needed.

Qadira

F Human Wizard (Conjuror) 5

Zarabeta is updated.

She gained;
11 hit points (3.5 for level, +2 for Con, +1 for Favored Class, +5 for taking Toughness this level)
1 feat (Tougness)
1 wizard bonus feat (Craft Wondrous Item)
7 skill ranks (2 for class, 4 for Int, 1 for human), 1 in Knowledge (nature), +1 in Spellcraft, +1 in Diplomacy, +1 in Appraise, +2 in Linguistics (learned Auran and Terran) and 1 in Perform (acting), which she may never use again, but darn it, she *earned* that!)
For her 2 wizard spells, she learned haste and summon monster III
She added some 3rd level spell slots, and I noticed that I had, for the last four levels, forgotten to add my bonus spells per day for Intelligence. D'oh!
BAB and saves did not change

I tried to mix things up with daze, color spray and glitterdust (and occasionally charm person and hypnotism) targetting Will saves, grease targeting Ref saves and stinking cloud targetting Fort saves, which, with her array of Knowledge skills, should give her an opportunity to try and focus on the weak saves of anyone she encounters.

I am just sick with regret that the Augment Summoning feat only specifically boosts spells with the word 'summon' in the title, like summon monster, summon nature's ally, summon eidolon, etc. and therefore probably has no effect on mad monkeys or rain of frogs. I'd love to boost the save DC of their Distraction effect (or poison) by +2 by buffing their Con with Augment Summoning. :)

Mad monkeys, create spiked pit, rain of frogs and / or aqueous orb all look like interesting options to consider for future spell acquisitions. Two more Fort effects (the distraction and / or poison, for the frogs or monkeys) and two more Ref effects (pit and orb).

In other news, there are *eight* spells to summon different types of daemons, demons or devils. Exactly zero to summon angels, archons, azata, axiomites, proteans, etc. For a game that discourages playing evil characters, they sure bend over backwards to include a crapton of [evil] spells that only NPCs will get to cast (it's not like NPCs *need* spells to summon demons, devils, etc. If the GM wants there to be a demon, devil, etc. in the encounter, they'll bloody well be there, whether some nearby NPC had a spell to summon one or not!).

Grr! Argh! :)

If Zarabeta ever falls into money, she's gonna research some axiomite / formian / inevitable / modron / celestial summoning spells! And versions of mad monkeys and rain of frogs that are named 'summon monkey swarm' and 'summon frog swarm.' :)

Andoran

Male Human Fighter 5 (Favoured Class)

Marius also takes Toughness [5th is the awkward level for fighter feats]

He gains Weapon Training 1 in Light Blades

Hitpoints 1d10 + 2 + 5 ⇒ (5) + 2 + 5 = 12

5 skill ranks, Intimidate +1, Ride+1, Swim +1, Climb,+1,Knowledge Engineering +1

BAB +1, saves unchanged.

Zara: wouldn't Summon Planar Ally call a good outsider?

This IS the internet you know ... Alegedly human Expert (IT) 5/Ninja 3/Witch 7

Waifrin has gone for another wilder level:
+10 power points
+1d8 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5 hit points
+6 skill ranks
Improved Surge Bond: Expanded Knowledge (Minor Metamorphosis)
New Feat: Power Penetration

I've always interpreted it as working on any appropriate Conjuration (summoning) spell.

Set, please remember you're playing with Mr. Core only. If you're going to go ranging farther afield, even to Paizo sources, for spells check them with me please. Thank you for the links. In the future if you can link to PRD rather than pfsrd, I'd appreciate it.

Why would you be sick with regret on Augment summoning? It's a darn good feat for a summoner as written. I know because I've been on the receiving end of them from more people than Zarabeta.

Talk to me about the angel summoning. That's something we might be able to work out.

Dabbler, thanks for the links. Reading the psionics rules often makes my head hurt. There's a ton going on there. Too many options to contemplate all at once when I need to get to work. You're good to go with the usual proviso.

Wellard, why is 5th awkward for fighters?

Andoran

Female Human Wilder 5th | AC13 | HP39 | Str 10 | Dex 15 | Con 13 | PP37/37

If the metamorphosis powers are too complex, I'm happy to switch it.

Thom:

The Metamorphosis powers are built around the same idea as the polymorph abilities, but with a twist: the manifester adapts and changes their existing body. It's a limited self-buff, to all intents and purposes.

My reason for taking it is to lead into the next power, metamorphosis, at 9th level. I plan to use them for Waifrin to take on a more celestial aspect as she develops. So by 9th level with metamorphosis she can grow angelic wings and fly...

Noted. I happened to pick both core spells this level anyway, with haste and summon monster III, so I was mostly thinking ahead anyway.

Oh, I love the feat, I just frown a little frown when I see summoning spells that don't have 'summon' in the name, and therefore don't count for Augment Summoning. Someone probably smiled when they named a spell 'mad monkeys' or 'rain of frogs,' without thinking that by choosing a cute name, they actually mechanically changed how the spell would interact with the Augment Summoning feat.

It's just wonky that a flavorful word choice can have an (unintended?) mechanical effect.

Male Human

Level up info will be coming tomorrow. A bit too tired right now, guys.

work trip. can post maybe Sunday? then another trip mon-Tues next week.

I meant purely for feat selection..at almost every level after 5th the feat you want sort off leaps out off the page at you..but at 5th, and indeed at 7th level, there is no automatic choice for a fighter.

I have pretty much every level for this AP covered for Marius already

6:Improved 2 weapon Fighting
7:still unsure..I might take Step Up or Combat Reflexes
8:Improved Crit
9:Greater weapon Focus Short Sword
10:Critical Focus
11:Greater two weapon fighting
12:Two Weapon Rend
13:Penetrating strike

This IS the internet you know ... Alegedly human Expert (IT) 5/Ninja 3/Witch 7

How about adding a weapon like the falcatta? Or specialisation with something less common than shortswords? Or some bow skills so that you can do some damage at a distance?

Well I get to use the bows anyway and thay would never be more than a minor back up..The one flaw with the dual shortsword technique is that you HAVE to concentate your feats on producing damage I might take focus with the battle axe or the Morning star at 7th instead..but Step Up is handy when dealing with casters.

Theres always Disruptive off course which is also good if you can make sure the caster isn't going anywhere.

Hmm maybe if I ever have another fighter in PbP I'll try out an anti caster build

This IS the internet you know ... Alegedly human Expert (IT) 5/Ninja 3/Witch 7

You could also take Improved Shield Bash, get a light shield with spikes and go sword & Board?

Male Human

Rogue 4 -> Rogue 5

Saves: No change
Hit Points: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2
Hit Points (Reroll): 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3
Base Attack: No change
Feats: +1 feat - Improved Feint
Skills: +12 skill ranks - Acrobatics, Bluff, Climb, Diplomacy, Disable Device, Escape Artist, Knowledge (Local), Linguistics, Perception, Sense Motive, Sleight of Hand, Stealth
Class Features: +1d6 sneak attack damage

Gaining a rank in Linguistics also means Raven gets to learn a new language. Any suggestions, folks?

Sword and board just reduces my damage potential..even with shield spikes.

not to mention the fact that a light shield does not count as an off hand light weapon so I'd have a reduced hit chance

Raven if your going to expand your language base why not Celestial languages or Elemental ones

Friday's work trip turned into 2 days plus now I've got to finish the reports for all last week's work ASAP. Monday's trip has been extended to Wednesday. Might be Thursday before I can post again. Sorry.

S@@! happens, Thom. Have a good time if you can.

Expert 3/Slacker 4/Layabout 2

Sorry, for the absence. I am sucking wind at work, and now have got some personal issues to deal with. It will probably be Thursday before I return to DMing.

This IS the internet you know ... Alegedly human Expert (IT) 5/Ninja 3/Witch 7

It happens, Thom. We'll be waiting.

Expert 3/Slacker 4/Layabout 2

I'm back. More stuff cropped up.

For the next morning -- Waif and Marius have an appointment. You guys adding anyone else to the guest list?

You have a couple days downtime. Anyone else have plans, including shopping? New forays for shadow hunting? Anyone else you want to talk to?

Osirion

Some dude

Zarabeta would probably be strongly motivated to hunt some shadow-beasts.

Acting sure ain't gonna pay the bills. :)

Expert 3/Slacker 4/Layabout 2

Fifty gp? For a week's work. That's pretty good wages. If you live frugally and don't buy expensive stuff.

Oh, sure, for a commoner, it's living high on the hog (and did more than double the 26 gp she had before), but for an adventurer, expected to have 10,000 gp worth of gear by 5th level, it's thin gruel. :)

Fiosa thinks hunting down shadowbeasts sounds like a great idea!

This IS the internet you know ... Alegedly human Expert (IT) 5/Ninja 3/Witch 7

Waifrin would gladly join her but for her appointment. Besides, hunting shadowbeasts is more likely to be an exercise for night-time, unless you want to go sewer-diving again.

Male Human

Oh, not the sewers again... They smell! :-P

Expert 3/Slacker 4/Layabout 2

work fell apart again. Monday morning I got the call, "can you go...?" Long days all this week.

Osirion

Some dude

Sorry man, hope stuff gets normal-ish again for you! (and / or that you are getting overtime!)

This IS the internet you know ... Alegedly human Expert (IT) 5/Ninja 3/Witch 7

Yeah, I got that in one job. Through the door in the morning and my bosos shouted: "Don't sit down, I need you in Vienna by tonight!"

On the subject of Equipment..

Marius really need to go get those Mithril Short swords we've been talking about for a Year in real time.

Expert 3/Slacker 4/Layabout 2

So Waifrin's discussion with the geezer shouldn't turn into anything much as long as she stays civil. Dabbler, Wellard, and I could probably run that spoilered or private messaged. (Spoilers are my preference) And we can get on with the main story.

Wellard, where will Marius go for the shortswords?

Qadira

F Human Wizard (Conjuror) 5

If we don't already have a smith contact, Zara will introduce Marius to the smith's apprentice from her 'three contacts,' on the off chance that he can either hook Marius up with his mentor, or at least suggest a good weaponsmith.

Spoiler:

Ferro Velonte – something of a friendly rival, Ferro is an apprentice blacksmith a year or two younger than Zarabeta, and is constantly scrounging the dumps and nearby abandoned houses for nails, hinges or other scraps of metal that he can salvage to melt down and forge into more saleable merchandise. He and Zarabeta (whom he calls ‘Beta,’ to her great frustration, as that was her father’s pet name for her) regularly get into shouting matches over a particular bit of scrap metal that he wants to melt down, and she wants to mend and sell. Ferro is surprisingly good-looking, for a gangly teenager with overlarge arms, the occasional burn-scar and frequently soot-blackened features. Zarabeta remains clueless to this, seeing him primarily as an annoying competitor in the junk salvage / reclamation market. Still, after the two of them had a frightening run in with a rat the size of a large dog, she feels a sense of gratitude (even if she had to rescue the fool after he bravely charged the thing to distract it away from her).

Do we have any lingering contact with the Neil's character's family? I vaguely recall them being arms merchants or something...

The Henderthains are THE Chelaxian arms Merchants and I think I was promised a letter of introduction.

Expert 3/Slacker 4/Layabout 2

So they are. You haven't seen a letter of introduction. Maybe you should look up Akorian?

If we knew where he had gotten to.
