Got it! That elemental is now bloodied (more than half damage). And I moved your token to J14, Lilia.

The elemental takes a swipe at Lilia as she backs aways.

Slam: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 5 = 7 miss

On the bank by the portal, Ares and Urrnir find the temperature of their metal equipment growing even hotter! It begins to actually cause them bodily harm rather than just discomfort!

Fire Damage Taken
Ares: 1d4 ⇒ 4
Urrnir: 1d4 ⇒ 4

Priscilla

I'm carrying over the roll you did earlier.

Priscilla finally makes some real headway with the levers. She figures out how to wedge them.

Priscilla, next round (round 6) you can activate any second lever while keeping the first one engaged.

Round 5

Seizing the moment Ronen quickly shuffles forward as Lilia retreats from the watery form. Drawing his blade in the moment he steps forward he unleashes a flurry of swings at the creature.

"I will deal with this horror you others aid T'Salix!"

Free action: 5ft step to L14
Full Action: Flurry of Blows with Temple Sword at the elemental that attack Lilia

Temple sword flurry attack #1: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (15) + 4 = 19
Temple sword damage: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8

Temple sword flurry attack #2: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (17) + 4 = 21
Temple sword damage: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6

Ronen's attack shatters the creature, it's aqueous body dispersing into the waters with a groan.

1 down

Lueck, Urrnir, Ares & Cairenn are up.

Buckler Will: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (12) + 4 = 16
Chainshirt Will: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (16) + 4 = 20

Round 5

Urrnir's head whips around at the sound of splashing water. She sees the half-orc break the surface of the water and swears, this time out loud. "By the gods man, are you actively trying to die!?"

Ignoring the building heat on her body she rushes back out across the causeway and falls to her stomach while reaching a hand (Maybe Bow?) towards the trapped caretaker. "Grab on!" she shouts.

Possible STR: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (20) + 4 = 24 To pull up T'Salix

Urrnir: Move Action to map point, Standard Action to go prone and reach out towards T'Salix.

Heat Metal DC is 16.

Uurnir's hardy equipment cools down, the enchantment failing to fully take hold.

Urrnir, that move looks like it requires acrobatics check for moving more than half speed on causeway.

Oop, sorry

Acrobatics: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (7) + 7 = 14

Sweet molasses, I am just one mistake after another. If it helps I can try and use my longbow as a balancing pole to get that last +1 I need for a success.

Round 5

Lueck scrambles across the rocky island (with far more grace than he climbed across the ropes...), looking for an opening to stab out at the remaining elemental.

Move to J16, via L15, K14, J15.

Longspear attack against elemental in H17.

"Blunt Blades!" Ares Curses as he tries to maintain his focus to remain stable on the bridge. He moves slower to help Urrinir to bring in the caretaker

As Ares approaches cautiously behind Urrnir, he see's his bodyguard slip and go tumbling into the drink with T'Sallix!

Meanwhile, Lueck gets in position from the island and continues putting in work with his spear.

Hit!

Round 5 - Cairenn

The young bard continues to recite his uplifting poetry.

Maintain Bardic Performance

Round 5 - T'Salixx

The half-orc swallows a mouthful of cheap tobacco.

Reflex: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 2 = 9

Failing to escape from the vortex, he continues to be battered and choked by a torrent of crimson waves.

Damage: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5

T'Salixx is almost dead.

Seeing Urrnir fall in beside him, the caretaker goes limp, pretending to be dead.

Round 5 - Elemental Guardian

Feeling T'Salix go limp, the elemental ejects him from the vortex and moves to pull Urrnir into the deep next.

Urrnir Reflex: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (1) + 5 = 6

The bodyguard is trapped in the vortex and battered by it's current.

Damage: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2

Round 5
Lilia (move away from bank)
Cairenn (maintain performance)
Ronen (defeats the elemental)
Lueck (attacks the elemental)
Uurnir (kerplunk!)
Priscilla (wedges the levers)
Ares (follows Urrnir on causeway)

Lilia curses, as that darned elemental just won't leave them be. She uses one of her more basic magicks, and tries to splash it with acid, hoping that would disrupt the water sustaining it.

Ranged Touch Attack with Inspire Courage into Melee 1d20 + 3 + 1 - 4 ⇒ (8) + 3 + 1 - 4 = 8

Seeing the elemental drift out of the range of his spear, Lueck grimaces. He awkwardly takes the longspear and shoves the shaft under his backpack, securing it in place, though it looms tall over him. Then in a smooth, practiced motion, frees his bow and nocks an arrow, sighting in on the elemental.

Move to stow longspear, move to ready bow.

Round 5

"UURNIR! GRAB MY ARM!" Ares yells at his faithful body guard.

What do you want me to roll?

Round 6

If Ares pulls me out:

Coughing up brackish water, Urrnir carefully balances herself on the causeway lest she tumble in again. "That damned...half-breed." she sputters. "He's still down there." Still sopping wet the maiden rolls on to her side and once again tries to drag T'Salix free from the water.

Possible STR: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (10) + 4 = 14

Urrnir: Spending all of my actions to try and get T'Salix out of the lake.

If I'm still in the water:

If I understand the vortex correctly then I'm unable to move but beyond that I can still take actions (like attacking) normally.

With no avenue of escape, Urrnir's instincts go into overdrive, fight-or-flight mode. She tears viciously at liquid walls surrounding her in the hopes of at least wounding the elemental.

Attack: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (17) + 6 = 23
Damage: 1d6 + 6 ⇒ (2) + 6 = 8

[ooc]Urrnir: Swift Action to enter Dragon Style/Scorpion Style. Standard Action to attack Water Elemental.

Ares Valorn wrote:

I'm thinking you roll your own reflex save to avoid being pulled in yourself.

DC 13 Reflex: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (9) + 3 = 12 failed!

Ares gets hold of his bodyguard, but the swirling vortex sweeps him off of the causeway into the water.

T'Salix had made it one piece. As he watched on the half orc's labouring breath echoed in this vast cave.

Round 7

Cairenn stops his oratory, as the threat seems to be ebbing. Half-heartedly, he looses one more arrow at the retreating elemental, to keep it from getting any ideas of coming back.

Damage: 1d6 ⇒ 3

The arrow skitters harmlessly over the water, nowhere close to the elemental, before sinking beneath the water.

"Well, now, you alright?" the half-elf asks T'Salix. It's true that the half-orc has... distasteful views, and Cairenn's not at all charmed by the idea of robbing from the dead T'Salix is supposed to be burying, but he doesn't consider it a killing offense, either, and so far the man's come awfully close to dying as a result of their forcing him to come along.

Priscilla thinks there is not going to be any additional mechanical way to operate the portcullis once everyone has passed through it. The mechanisms are all driven by the levers back on the island. The only trick would be to run the twine all the way from the levers, across the causeway, and through the portcullis. You could set two strands of twine, one to close the portcullis behind you and another to re-open when you come back this way.

However, the strands of twine might be noticeable by any intelligent creature coming up behind you and it could be tampered with.

I went ahead and used a engineering roll from Cairenn and a Disable Device roll from Priscilla to come up with the twine system.

Cairenn, can you maybe think of a clever use of prestidigitation here for masking the twine?

Cairenn Engineering: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (14) + 2 = 16

Priscilla Disable Device: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (16) + 10 = 26

Everybody who crosses to the bank with the gate and portcullis needs to roll saves for metal equipment (using their own will save) or the metal will start heating up.

Beyond the archway, a wide flagged road slopes downward through a wide tunnel. The sound of tumbling water fills the air.

Once she reaches the ledge and inspects it, Lilia notices a section of water just off the the side of the ledge that is especially turbulent. Lilia also notices grooves down the middle of the road behind the bone portcullis, like a track for something to run along. (These are the results of your DC 23 Perception check you rolled, Lilia.)

DC 15 Knowledge Dungeoneering:
The turbulent water suggests that there is an underwater flooded passage in the cavern wall that runs somewhat parallel to the road behind the bone portcullis.

The information in the above spoiler can also be learned by someone directly swimming down to explore beneath the turbulent patch of water.

Something must have once run along here, creating the groove. This is an interesting place all right. Anyone have an idea as to what these things mean?"

Cairenn looks thoughtful a moment, then digs his blanket out of his pack and dips it into the red water, until it's nice and soaked. Then, he takes off his jewelry and divests himself of his metal weaponry-- all of his metal objects go into the wet blanket, which he rolls up to carry across. The soaked condition of the blanket should, he hopes, prevent some heat issues.

Cairenn's armor is leather, so he's leaving it on. If he's still going to take damage carrying metal objects in a soaked blanket, so be it. Not sure if I should make a save or not, but if so:

Will save: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (7) + 4 = 11

Regarding the string, he smiles slightly, as that was his intention from the start, to rig something with string. As far as disguising the string goes... well, he can color it red and let it droop in the water, but it seems more work than it might be worth.

Given Prestidigitation's hard limit of an hour, as well as its other limits, I doubt it'll be worth it to try and do any magical disguise of the string. That said:

Looking thoughtful, Cairenn attempts to use mage hand on the levers, to see if that amount of force will be sufficient to operate them. Of course, if he's on the far side of the portcullis, he won't have the range to reach, but...

"Can we not wedge that portcullis open somehow?" he asks the others. "A spike or a piton, driven into the rock right below it when it is raised, seems like it would do the trick."

Cairenn has no such spike or piton, but if anyone has a climbing kit, they should. He will lend his 50' of string to tying off to the lever, etc, and take 10 to cross over with the others, and look at the turbulent water.

Kn Dungeoneering: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (12) + 6 = 18

"Hmmm... I think it's possible there's an underwater passage beneath this road, look how the current moves," Cairenn indicates, off-handedly.

Personally, I don't want to lower the portcullis behind us: I'm less worried about things coming in from behind us than us getting trapped in here and having difficulties getting back out.
