Indeed. Neither of us are pleased and when I'm not pleased Prakar isn't...well you get the idea. But of course this doesn't have to result in bloodshed. Like she said, why did your master try to manipulate our temples into being against one another?

Why would we put into motion a plot that would harm our relationship with two of our greatest allies and informants? "Oh please, I won't strain your mind, I'll happily force feed you what exactly happened, so perhaps you can better understand my personal...irritation. Amara continues on, keeping her temper in check.

"This morning, your master kindly paid Sirith a visit, and encouraged Esha and Sirith, among others, to pay for his information up front, which was (reluctantly) agreed upon. Unfortunately, the information given to Sirith and I was misleading in the extreme, the Captain is so much more than a slaver, and remains a personal client of mine. You perhaps can see the issue, my labelling the captain as a horrific slaver you set Sirith against my client, and therefore me. Matters only got worse however, when I investigated and discovered that the captain was hardly the individual that The Librarian had portrayed him to be, and if I was able to learn this information, I'm fairly certain that The Librarian himself also knew, he does, after all, claim that his information network is every good as mine, if not outright superior".

Signing slightly, Amara attempts to finish up her tirade. "The Librarian is either completely ignorant of the fact that the Captain is more than just a mere slaver (in which case he should investigate more thoroughly), or he knew exactly what the Captain was and deliberately kept Sirith in the dark, either to make her look silly or to set her against me. Either way, The Librarian charged us for misleading information, which frustrates me greatly and naturally, I'd like to find a solution to this problem."

Male Tiefling Rogue (Unchained)/5

Undertow:

Fist takes in Amara's tirade, listening to the end before sitting at the chair behind the counter. He runs his hand through his hair, pausing to grip his ear. You see the wheels in his head turning for a long while before he begins, that damned fool... He's always been too damn trusting with his contacts...
He sighs deeply before elaborating: I assure you, he did not know that your captain was anything but a slaver skirting the law this morning. But after his meeting with Sirith and Esha this morning, he got a message informing him that this captain was at one point a... he pauses and glances over at Sirith before continuing, ... a person interested in ending slavery. He sent a message to me to investigate, but I was unable to because the captain had already become suspicious. It appears though, that the new information is the more correct, judging from your... ire.
He pauses for a moment to reach behind the counter, pulling out a bottle and four glasses. He fills them and slides them along the counter to his guests, not expecting or waiting for the others to actually partake before he continues, I'm sure that the Librarian is still out trying to get to the bottom of this as we speak. I assure you, our intent was not to pit your two temples against each other, or slander the name of a good man. I'm sure the Librarian will agree that you owe him no debt for this grievous oversight, in fact I believe we are in your debt. And rest assured, we will find out how such horrid misinformation made it all the way to us, and the perpetrator will be... dealt with. Harshly. And the Librarian will receive a harsh punishment from the Reader for his oversight.
He downs his glass in one gulp, the aura of shame and frustration palpable on his person. Pours himself another glass in finishes it as quickly as the first. I'm deeply sorry about the harm this has caused you, and I assure you that our organization will do whatever we can to make it right.

Male Tiefling Rogue (Unchained)/5

Undertow:

Fist shrugs, taking a sip of his drink rather than downing it this time, taking the time to think before responding I don't know, he hasn't briefed me yet. I don't think he would have told anyone other than this group, but it's possible he got the Eagle Knights or the Hellknights involved, or at least informed. Perhaps the Absalom guard, but in sincerely doubt it. If he has told anyone, he will be urged to repair the captains reputation with said group at his own personal cost. Of course, that's my assumption, I cannot speak such ill against my "master," he says, putting emphasis and contempt on the title "master."

Mentally cursing the Librarian, Sirith was now concerned. For one thing if the fool had gotten both the Hellknights and Golden Eagles involved, it would be a nightmare. If the Absalom Guards were also involved then it would be a disaster! She could understand the Fist not speaking too much ill of his master. Still...

Well let's hope he hasn't spoken to any of those groups about this. Do you know where he went to or do you have a vague idea? Anything to help us out in finding him would be appreciated.

Undertow:

Her temper cooled slightly as she is now aware that it was merely incompetence rather than something personal, Amara nevertheless attemps to find a solution that benefits her somehow. "There is a simple solution to the problem Sirith, one that doesn't involve Esha or myself wasting our precious time running after The Librarian, cleaning up his mess. I've decided that seeing as The Librarian meddled in my affairs, he can be responsible for cleaning them up. The rule is simple, if any harm befalls my client, then I will personally hold him and his organisation responsible. Due punishment will likely be reciprocal to whatever harm affected my client, so you can be sure that The Librarian should now be fully invested in my clients survival and good health...as should anyone else in his organisation."Everyone happy with this arrangement?

Fine with me. The Librarian will know exactly what the stakes are in this mess he has created. Hell, the Reader will offer him up to you on a silver platter if it comes to it, Fist says with a deep, resounding sigh. Liberty's Edge

OK! Let's fast forward.

A month goes by.

A few days after the day in which all of you met with Captain Gorn of the Broken Bough, the ship pulls out of Absalom Harbor again. It's guided out to sea by a member of the pilot's guild, and things return to normal-- as normal as they can ever be in Absalom. Rumors fly, politics contines, it rains some days, business is conducted.

How this works

Go through the Downtime Phases starting on page 81 of Ultimate Campaign. I'm pretty sure none of you have any "Upkeep" to worry about, so you can skip to "Activity". Assume 1 day was used up by all the bruhaha surrounding Captain Gorn, and you have 30 days in which to do stuff. Do stuff! You can craft, if you're up for it, drink, if you like that sort of thing, or do other things. Failing everything else, you can earn capital yourself, as described in page 77 of Ultimate Campaign. Note that this would be from your own work, which is in addition to what your business gives you.

Next, do the Income Phase. Here's where you reap the benefits of your businesses. Figure out how much income (both gp and other capital) you get from your business. Add it to the money and capital you're keeping track of. Do remember that capital is potential, and needs some money investment in order to realize that. You can either do that now, or you can do it when you spend the capital, but do keep track of it! I would strongly recommend paying for it as you get it, as that will be easier. If any of you have capital left over from character creation, it's already paid for. But, whatever you do, if you can keep track of it clearly, that works.

Post here what you do and what the results are. Meanwhile, I'll figure out what happens for the "Event Phase"... for some of you, that may be an offline event, but that may turn into some stuff that we roleplay out first hand. Wait to see what happens....

Female Skald 5 HP: 43/43 | AC:16 T: 11 FF: 16 | Fort: +7 | Ref: +2 | Will: +6 | Perception: +9 Initiative: +2 Settlement Link

Just trying to get my head around all of this, but I think, since IIRC my current gp is pretty low, its best for me to blow my downtime earning capital?

I think this means that if I spend 30 days doing "skilled work", to earn, say, Influence, then I can get 3 points of Influence per day, which translates to 90 Influence after a month.

If I spend 30 days doing "skilled work" to earn gp, then its 3gp per day, for 90 gp. 90 go doesn't sound like much though, so isn't earning influence / goods / magic just flat out better in all situations?

Do I have this right?

Female Skald 5 HP: 43/43 | AC:16 T: 11 FF: 16 | Fort: +7 | Ref: +2 | Will: +6 | Perception: +9 Initiative: +2 Settlement Link

Hmm, I think I'll just post with what I plan on working on through the downtime, and then work out the mechanics / mathematics of it all later.

So basically, for the first month, Esha and Amara are likely going to work on the profile of the temple. Ideally, she wants it popular, aware in the conscious mind, but she doesn't want it so popular that no secrets are learnt because everyone hears them before they even get through the door! I think her standard tactic is to gradually put out feelers as to who wants vengeance / looking for information / lust etc, and make sure the temple is known to those people, before calling it a day. In general, Amara would want to look to influence or meddle in political affairs in Absalom, not only can she raise the profile of her religion, but she also gains greater influence in the city. I imagine that she has a list of people that might get her to that level, and potentially looks to find favours she could do, or dirt she could use, in order to manipulate her standing. Esha on the other hand, is (I imagine) attempting to cultivate her criminal underworld vices, and very likely looking to..liberate things from time to time, much to Amara's frustration.

Any cash or capital I imagine they get, could likely to go upgrading / renovating the temple, maybe adding a few bedrooms or baths.

Posting my activities as soon as I can. Got a game of my own to update that will take priority though...I'd feel terribad if I updated the games I'm playing in before the game I'm running...

I'll try and post sometime tomorrow when I can sit down and concentrate on things.

The next month was stressful for Dolgrin, as he was busy putting himself to work at trying to develop a strong base to really develop Torag a following here in Absalom. But one thing became perfectly clear to the dwarf as he progressed: money was everything in this city. As such, he put himself to work as best he could, trying to earn himself enough coin to be able to recruit the help and materials he would need to eventually convert his small smithy into a proper temple.

Fortunately for him, his business was doing well, and his employees and followers were up to the task. He managed not only to earn up a decent amount of coin, but also to earn himself some promises of supplies and political support from a merchant lord who was on the council in The Coins. Also, he was able to set aside some time to generate some enchantments and religious rites that would be necessary when the time came to properly bless the grounds.
__________
I broke this up into small, manageable chunks (I hope) for your review. Let me know if anything looks out of order. I assumed we were going with the 5 days a week rule, and as such left the 6th and 7th days off, assuming Dolgrin spent those days resting and hosting small religious activities in the Smithy. I also didn't do anything for my Cohort, you want us to do those rolls as well, or just assume they've been busy with their own lives?
