GM Chubbleston - Added this to the background spoken by the headmaster on accepting Rani to the school:

This is a school founded ages ago by Osirians that wished to study the local magics, but kept their harsh traditions.

A bit cheesy but it flows from the background. But while it technically qualifies him for the Osirionology feat I think it a bit better than he acquires it fully after start of play, as he becomes more interested in the traditions of Osirion, as he adventures here.

Have fun making your choices, it'll be challenging with so many great submissions.

Quote:
PatheticWretch - Khafra Almaktoum - Human Bloodrager (Steelblood) (need to ask; were you going the tumor familiar archetype?. I typically don't allow the tumor's to take archetype, especially protector. Its too powerful. I'm ok with just having a tumor familiar though. where ill assume you will go with die for your master.)

I wouldn't spend two feats to get to Die for Your Master without a familiar archetype. I'd probably just change the feat.

Given our respective backgrounds, I could see Maurice either 1) being the servant to the dingbat noble that is in Badhru's background almost as a "complication", or 2) in Maurice's checkered past, he might have been a perp in a case that Dhru's mentor worked on.

If we were to both get in, wanna see if we can work something out?

I'm brand new to PbP. Stumbled across it on Paizo forums and fell in love. F2f I've only run the beginner's box module and Hollow's Last Hope. I've tried making up for my lack of experience with reading through the Core Rulebook, APG, and ACG.

The application is nearly complete, well excluding character sheet information except for the campaign trait. I’m posting this for any criticism or questions.

Five+ points
1) Sullus is a twenty-six years old Chelaxian Osirionologist driven to achieve a greater reputation than his father.
2) He spent three years (five - eight years old) in Osirion until his father sent him away for stealing a ring from an Osirion archeologist.
3) Sullus is self-educated by using the family library. His family couldn’t afford a tutor.
4) His father, Baron Vetterio Ocella, died four years ago. Most of the family’s possessions needed to be sold to pay off his debts.
5) After his father’s death, he translated his father’s field journals from Osirion. Discovered he has a half-sister named Kana. Her mother is the Osirion archeologist whom he stole from all those years ago. He believes his father and her would not have met if not for his actions.
6) He finances the trip by signing a contract with a devil to provide the blood of his half-sister or pay 100 times the loan’s original value by his 30th birthday; or his life is forfeit.
7) While he’s in Osirion his father’s younger brother is acting Baron.

Two goals: First, Sullus wants to discover something monumental that will eclipse his father’s reputation. Second, he wants to kill Kana, or at least find enough treasure to pay off his debt.

Secret unknown to Sullus: His mother, Lucceia, learned of Vetterio’s infidelity with an Osirion woman and had them both killed.
Secret known to Sullus: He’s a halfling abolitionist.

People tied to Sullus:
Akhemet, an Osirion antiquities dealer.
Kana, half-sister. She knows who killed her parents. Not sure about revenge.
Baccio, Chelaxian cleric of Asmodeus living in Osirion. He sent word that Sullus’ father was dead.
Khojar adn Basmes, business partner of Vetterio. Enemy.
Maybe one more.

Three key memories:
1) At a party, eleven years old, the delight of speaking elvish with a bard, practically fluent but with an accent.
2) As a teen, when his father was back home, he sparred using a khopesh with him. His father easily disarmed him as if all those hours practicing had been wasted. Afterwards, Sullus’ uncle taught him how to use a rapier.
3) His younger sister broke a bottle of their mother’s perfume. She blamed a halfling slave who was punished severely. Sullus was old enough to know it was unfair. When he told his mother the truth about the bottle, she had no guilt or remorse.

One fear: WIP

Campaign trait: Foreign opportunist.

Hm. That sounds like an idea - either as the manservant of Lord Nethymose, sent to assist the investigator as a protector of assets? That might require the GM to switch the Lord as an NPC, I imagine.

The second one would be Mr. Maurice to have been Woodrose's caretaker of sorts, as a reprisal of his past sins, and has been 'passed down' as part of the inheritance. How much Dhru might know about his past can be discussed further, but it could involve some interesting conversation about Maurice teaching him how to behave in high society and to behave like a pillar of society. And to wear ironed shirts. Non-negotiable.

EDIT:

tomtesserae, I don't remember if I said that earlier, but I'd also be interested in working with you as well - as I said, GM approval pending. I quite enjoy the political high life drama in his life, so I'd be delighted to be the one cleaning both clothes and dirty secrets.

Those are both pretty good ideas. I think I'm more partial to the second one, but that's not to say I couldn't make the first one work either. If we went the route of Maurice having worked for Woodrose, I think Maurice's secret would be in Woodrose's journal, and Badhru hasn't yet decoded it. Hell, Maurice might even be the one who has the key that decrypts the journal.

(Dhru rolls his eyes and sighs in an exasperated manner)

"Ugh, are we really gonna do the shirt thing now? We're in the middle of the freaking desert. I don't think the jackals mind, and I don't see why I should just this minute."

@Akurna- ill make the exception for your character on the race, due to it being a previous character and its not a power race type.

It's called Collegiate Initiate on PFSRD. Thank you!

DM Chubbleston:

Okay, cool. A lot of people say you shouldn't play a race with a CON penalty, but I like the fluff, and the scores work well for a channeling cleric. Akurna's hit points will be relatively low, but she will have a decent AC and will try to stay out of trouble.

BTW, in her current gear she has "throwing flails." These are basically just iron balls attached to chains, like the head of a flail without the handle. Sort of inspired by the Olympic Hammer Throw event. They have the same stats as a javelin except blunt. I came up with them for the character since Anubis's sacred weapon is the flail, but if you don't like the idea I can just switch them back to javelins.

@DM Chubbleston: Here is my submission, please let me know if I am missing anything. Thanks for your consideration.

Drawback:
Paranoid: Anyone who attempts an aid another action of any type to assist you must succeed at a DC 15 check instead of the normal DC 10 check

Took one alternate racial trait:
Desert Runner: Elves with this racial trait receive a +4 racial bonus on Constitution checks and Fortitude saves to avoid fatigue, exhaustion, or ill effects from running, forced marches, starvation, thirst, or hot or cold environments. This racial trait replaces elven magic.

Background:

Concept
=======
1. Feldîr is a child of two cultures; his father was a cultured Elf of Osirion, born and raised in An, while his mother was of the Ekujae tribe of the Mwangi. He split time between the two different environments, but particularly enjoyed going on expeditions with his father, who was a dedicated archaeologist.
2. Feldîr's mother instilled into him his sense of adventure, the thrill of the hunt, and skill with the bow.
3. Feldîr's father was a curious Elf with a passion for history; most expeditions involved exploring tombs and old sites of Ancient Osirion. Feldîr was more interested in the adventure aspect and, as such, his part in the expeditions dealt more with security; finding/disabling traps, tracking, and if it came to it, fighting.
4. Feldîr's father was killed on an expedition near Wati, in sight of the Ravenous Sphinx; Feldîr was in the Mwangi at the time, on a hunting venture with his mother. The scout guarding his father fled when a mummy appeared. His father, left alone, also tried to flee when he fell into a spiked pit trap and died. Feldîr blamed himself for not being there to protect his father from the undead and, even moreso, from the fatal trap since finding/disabling them were in his area of expertise.
5. The circumstances of his father's death gave him severe trust issues. As the father's trust in his scout was betrayed, Feldîr trusts only himself to do what needs to be done and has trouble accepting help from others.
6. Residing in An, Feldîr hires on to tomb-raiding/investigating expeditions...initially more interested in killing undead and finding the scout that failed his father...but ultimately wanting to, in some fashion, carry on the work of his father.
7. When he heard of the decree opening Wati's Necropolis for exploration, Feldîr immediately made the short journey there, knowing that his what his father would have done...

Goals
=====
1. To find and confront either the mummy or the guard indirectly involved with his father's death (or both)
2. To assist in a landmark discovery on Ancient Osirion (an unachieved goal of his father)

Two Secrets
===========
1. Feldîr is a bastard, the result of a union resulting from his father's expedition to the Mwangi and his mother's brief infatuation with an outland Elf (known).
2. The scout who left Feldîr's father to his fate is a member of the ruling family of Osirion, a distant relative of Prince Khemet III (unknown).

3-5 People Tied to Feldîr
=========================
1. The aforementioned scout that indirectly played a role in his father's death.
2. Rakon Shebes, High Priest of Nethys in An: Feldîr is known to the high priest as he has worked for the temple in preserving relics of Nethys, primarily protecting them from Rovagug's faithful
3. Raffa Admepi, leader of the Cult of Rovagog: Feldîr has thwarted more than one effort of the cult as they tried to defile sacred sites and artifacts; Admepi is irked and has a small bounty for his capture
4. Talpa: Feldîr knows this otherwise nameless orphan only by this name (Osirion for "mole"); he's proven useful in getting Feldîr unnoticed into Wati's Necropolis on a couple occasions, before it was opened by Khemet III for exploration.

Three key memories
==================
1. Ironically, saving his father from a pit trap during a pyramid expedition, eerily similar to the one he eventually died in. One reason his absence during his father's death haunts him as he thinks he could've saved him.
2. His first hunt with his mother, deep in the Mwangi Expanse. The hunt was successful with much meat brought to the tribe, but they also had a skirmish with some jungle Orcs and they were able to hold them at bay and escape. Feldîr's sense of adventure was ignited from this point forward.
3. His first expedition after the death of his father. His grief was so great that he was careless and narrowly escaped death at the hand of ghouls. The near death experience helped him move on from his grief; he knew that he could neither avenge his father nor carry on for him, if he's not around to do so...

Fear
====
Feldîr shudders uncontrollably when he sees a whip being used on others, a mixture of anger and fear. Spending time with his mother and the Ekujae, they were targeted by slave-hunters and he saw first-hand the results upon those who were caught. He and his mother escaped such a raid, but his mother bore a wicked scar from the whip of a slave-hunter.

I think Sullus (Baron Hetshepsullus Ocella) is complete in terms of background and character sheet. If I’m missing anything (or need to explain something) please let me know. I gave him the alignment lawful evil mainly because one of his goals is to kill his half-sister. Otherwise he’s more lawful neutral. He’s not interested in stealing or betraying the party.

Background:

Secret unknown to Sullus: His mother, Lucceia from Nidal, learned of Vetterio’s infidelity with an Osirion woman and had them both killed.
Secret known to Sullus: He’s a halfling abolitionist. He believes that halfllings were originally enslaved under the rationale that “might makes right.” To his thinking such a creed leads to anarchy and chaos. He favors a labor system based upon workers contracting their labor to the aristocracy.

Enemy.
Almer, former halfling family slave. Sullus brought him to Osirion and freed him.

I'm going to close this thread Fri, there are more than enough submissions. spend the weekend thinking about it, and getting stuff ready. then announce the 6 players Sunday night or mon. thank you everyone. you have til Friday to make any changes.

Sounds good. I've been a bit quite but I'm still very much interested in playing.

I'm excited to see who makes the cut, there have been a number of really good submissions I've seen. GL everyone!

It should be interesting to see who makes it.
The GM has his work cut out to narrow it down to six.

Hi DM Chubbleston, Chess here. I apologize for the last minute submission but I hope I'm still on time. I present Shogunto, Human Barbarian, a local Wati gardener/guide with aspirations for a better future. He rages and fights with a crevice weeder.

It is going to be a long weekend...lol. Best of luck everyone!

DM Chubbleston, sorry for the delay; here's a link to Eerie Sense. It makes it so you get a chill down your spine whenever you're within 60ft of a haunt or undead creature. You can't use it to pinpoint where exactly the undead creature is.

This is Arknight's submission. Working on adding the crunch, and it should be ready in an hour or so.

Seneb is updated with crunch. I'd love to hear folks' feedback..

Right! It's like a big improvised weapon hehe :)

Sefanit's background and remaining details are all finally complete.

Thank you For everyone that submitted, unfortunately there are always more people willing to play than DM. so I glad to announce the new group for the Mummy's mask. please report to the Discussion thread.

Badhru - Half-Orc Investigator (Steel Hound)-
Ninevekhti "Neve" Khamutep - Bard -
Gabradon "Gabs" Thelos - Human Gunslinger (Pistolero)
Rani Doompalm - Human Wizard (Diviner)-
Sefanit Batinayad- Witch- (meduim)
Teos of An's- Fighter-

Thank you and I'm slightly stunned, I do think my entry was good but there were so many great subs that I saw my chances as small. Busy now but will report later. Congratulations to my fellow selected. For everyone else you did a great job and I hope you find something soon.

Ah, I wasn't picked, good luck to you all!

Thanks for considering me. Good luck to everybody in the game.

By the Gods! Too late do I discover this thread.

That's an interesting looking party - good luck folks.

Call me if you decide you need a cleric ;)

Sczarni

Good luck, and raid them lost tombs good. I'll wait for the next one, may everyone have heaps of fun!

Badhru waves goodbye to Maurice.

Good luck you guys!

Ah well, the professor will have to wait his turn.

Have fun everyone!
