Rules of the campaign-

1. please keep the characters up to date in case I need to RP them. (as a last case scenario.)

2. I expect at least a post a day if possible.

3. please no PvP fighting (unless its fun for everyone.)

4. We might have more people in our group than originally started. I have always in my table top game made them fighting in the background using descriptions. I have found that it works really well. That sometimes hinder and sometimes help. I have a example of a hinder-
we had a expert NPC follower in our group. during a fight I made him appear to die in the background. where the group had to decide to go rescue him and fight against another person that was not in their direct encounter. to save him. or let him die and keep the encounter the same.

5. those that have not played with me, I like to keep a list of important characters or NPCs in the campaign tab. the important part to remember if you read it is that it may be based on hearsay the only way to know for sure is to directly ask questions. or get info form people. it may be false info. when I update anything in the campaign info tab I info tab updated to let everyone know to feel free to check.

6. the way I do initative is a grouped intative where I roll for the bad guys and you and take the average. anyone can then post at anytime during that turn that way no one is waiting on others posts.

7. I npc/bot you only in combat is my pref. after 24 hours to keep game flowing.

8. this is your world, the more you get into it the more I get to do for you. I am strict on the rules but allow some interpretation if it is not based upon advantage but RP.

9. max HP 1st level, and then 3/4 the hit dice each other level.

Hello, everyone, glad to be here with you all.

@GM Chubbleston - traits, I noticed that some of the players have two traits and a drawback, I have four with no drawback, two paid by a feat. Looking over the recruitment rules I see this:

Quote:
- 2 traits one of which has to be a campaign trait from the Mummy's Mask players guide. You have a drawback for another trait but must be written into your background. In addition another trait has been added (see below)

I interpreted this as I can but am not required to, take a drawback for another trait. It seems others interpreted this differently. What was your intent and how can I meet it?

As to this

Quote:
9. max HP 1st level, and then 3/4 the hit dice each other level.

Overall a reduction in hit points in the long run, okay but how does this work with hit point bonus per level like CON? 3/4 x six side dice is 4 so do I get 4+1 every other (odd) level and that's it or do I get +1 hit at level 2 for my CON?

There is another question I have: PCgen gave me Common and Osiriani free for my location background. Where I grew up basically. Is that okay? If not I'll drop Ignan, it's intended to be swapped before beginning play if another language appears more useful, for that matter is there likely to be another language Rani doesn't yet know that is more useful, everyone I'll take suggestions?

Sorry for the tsunami of questions, hope that keeps us on the same page.

Any questions like those should be on the discussion thread, Gameplay for RP and rolls, any life, rules, or questions on discussion to keep things organized.

@Rani- your traits are fine, if you took a drawback you would just get another trait. for total 5 traits. drawback wasn't required.

Sorry I should have wrote it out. what I meant by 3/4 was if you roll d6 for hp you would automatically get 4, d8 get 6, d10 get 8, d12 get 10. plus your con modifier each level. I started getting lazy with all the posting to start setting up.

AS for changes on characters, you have one month from today to make ANY changes to your character that you don't like. you just have to give me a heads up. as long as it is not a immediate benefit change. (like saying you speak goblin just when we meet a goblin). because sometimes your invisoned character just does not work the way you like and you have to "tweak" it.

Tangish ak-Nafer's caravan is a relatively small group of camels carrying the last few groups to show up at the famed city of Wati for the great opening of the Necropolis, you have heard through the grapevine that the necropolis which has been closed for the last sixteen hundred years will be opened up to the public. Along with your group in the caravan there is one other group of adventures lead by a Taldan woman by the name of Velriana that is called the Scorched hand. On the way you suspect that this caravan might be one of the last to arrive before the event (so it is too late to really pick and choose other adventures to join your team). So far after three of the five days it takes to travel to Wati from Tehpu from which this caravan originated the groups have been fairly separate and keeping to themselves. Also in the caravan is a beautiful woman that you have seen around camp with a large bodyguard always close at hand that has been staying in her tent most of the time. Your group after the three days have decided because no one really has any definitive ideas about what is expected to run into in the necropolis to band together, as there was once two smaller groups. All you need is either find a patron, to pay a processing fee to get you registered, and a name to give your group.

Gathered around the campfire after the third day you are trying to decide your options. Where there are several different opinions in the matter your group still has not come to a consensus of a leader either, a face of the group. The subject of what treasure could be found is also the subject of nightly gossip.

Several members of the party that are not used to the sun are having a rough time of it. Where those that were born here are already starting to bronze in the sun others are starting to burn.

Along with the Scorched hand that keep to themselves there are a few guards, the unknown woman, your group and some packmen.

Everyone can take one action at night in addition to talking amongst yourselves each one provides different info. ( I will post to each of you. spoilers based on your choice each night.)

DM, please advise, if Dhru had seen in the preceding days that this was getting bad, he'd swap his prepared expeditious retreat for endure elements, which is also in his formula book. LMK if I can do that and I'll adjust my prepared/expended extracts accordingly.

The desert was giving Badhru a rough time. Nothing about life in Absalom had prepared him for this. It might be something he could deal with courtesy of a little alchemy, but this introduction to the Osirian desert was proving unkind.

"You look like I feel, Gabradon," he quips to his new companion, halfheartedly. "I'm starting to get why some of my ancestors had problems with the sun."

The sun seemed to have put Badhru into a bit of a foul mood (No joke, you really are acting like one of Belkzen's sons, Dhru), and he was just cranky enough that he didn't want to talk to anyone just at that moment. He took out the notes on Wati he had compiled both before he left and while he had been in Sothis, and went over them.

I'll make a Knowledge (local) check, including a free inspiration die.

Knowledge (local): 1d20 + 7 + 1d6 ⇒ (11) + 7 + (6) = 24

EDIT: don't misinterpret "...he didn't want to talk to anyone just at that moment," as anything more than my justification for making my roll as a Knowledge check rather than one of the Diplomacy checks. I'm not the be-all-pissy-and-broody-in-the-corner type, I promise. :)

Why did I EVER let them talk me into trading the boat for camels? This is distilled misery...

A shortish, thin woman wearing a green linen sleeved wrap over a white under-dress, a scarf wrapped over her head and across her lower face, and spectacles with smoked lenses walks over to the two young men seated on the ground.

Sefanit unwraps her face and takes off the spectacles, hanging them on the long, thin chain around her neck. They join the pince nez spectacles already dangling from the chain.

"Is this the best patch of shade to be had?" she asks before sitting down with them. Despite her discomfort and irritation, she puts a smile on her heavily freckled face.

"Ravishing landscape, and absolutely terrific sightseeing today, no?" she asks with obvious sarcasm. "Why was it again that we didn't go the whole way by boat? Gabs? Dhru?"

Sefanit takes a quick sip of water, then looks more carefully at the men. "You two aren't looking so good! Here..." She fishes out a small pouch and gives each of them a white tablet. Handing over the water she tells them "take those. Salt tablets. They won't help you today, but they will tomorrow."

She then pops a tablet in her own mouth.

Neve smiles faintly at the outlanders' discomfort, although in truth the harsh desert sun is not something that she grew up with, either; it is only in the last few years that she has had to become accustomed to it.

She nods to confirm Sefanit's remarks: "Indeed, salt out here is an essential - the desert bakes it out of you. And I am sorry that you do not find it beautiful. I find, personally, the sparseness of the desert to be inspiring." Her voice is soft, well-modulated; and despite the heat her posture remains upright.

Peering at the witch, she offers a piece of cloth from her pack: "Here - wrap this around your head, like so..." she demonstrates how her own veil is worn. "I know that wearing another garment sounds like folly in this heat, but the light cloth will keep the worst of the sun from your head."

In between exchanging hints and pleasantries, Neve has been trying to find out something about their fellow-travellers.

Rani's having a bad day. Replying to Telos, "Thank you Teos for your aid. The robe seems heavy but it's fine, it's my arrogance in not donning it earlier that nearly caused trouble. Without even looking up from his notes, Badhru answers his new traveling companion. " ’Cuz the boat doesn’t have all this… ‘local color’, it’s the more desirable mode of transportation. Demand’s higher, so it costs more. The overland caravans have to compete on price, taking on scrubs like us at cost. Which works out for me, at least." Because the wolf, well, he isn’t quite at the door yet, but he’s getting there. The reminder of his precarious personal finances did little to improve the young half-orc’s mood.

When the young woman pushes the salt tablet across his papers, Dhru starts briefly, then actually breaks into a smile, his demeanor finally lightening. "Thanks," he says, popping the tablet in his mouth and washing it down. "Appreciate the help. But by tomorrow, I figure I’ll have the heat beat one way or another," he smiles, and addresses Gab and Sefanit. "Now chins up. We all had our reasons fer comin’ out here, and whatever they might be, we keep our eyes on the prize, right?" He keeps smiling, but inside he tells himself, Woodrose was like, twenty times better at that sort of pep talk than you are. Be lucky if none of them run off into the sand screaming. Badhru goes back to his notes…

Rani wrote:

At the mention of the Nexian capital, Badhru snaps his journal shut, and stares hard at the man who said that. Something had been nagging at the young man ever since they met. He briefly goes off into his head, thinking.

He didn’t shave his head back then, and he’s a hell of a lot cleaner. Always look at the eyes, Badhru. Sometimes, he still imagined his mentor, Woodrose, standing behind him, giving him advice. The eyes rarely change, kid. Poets talk a lotta nonsense about it, but damn if they’re not on to something.

Good time to describe Rani's ring for the narrative.

Rani has a gold ring with symbols and writing in Ancient Osiriani on it, indicating a graduate of some arcane school, unlikely anyone heard of. The main signet is that of a Sun shining on a green doompalm. In Ancient Osiriani Ra-Ni would translate as something like Sunshine or Brilliant.

His divinations? What the...? Dhru figures the non sequiter response probably has something to do with the kid's change in circumstances. Might nnot be something he wants to talk about out loud. Fair 'nuff.

Then it's Badhru's turn to stiffen when Rani inquires after Woodrose. "The old man, he, uh... He's gone." Damn, it still hurts to say that out loud. "Found him dead at his desk, goin' over some case files by the look of it. No foul play as far as I could tell. He left the agency to me, and here I am, doin' my best to not run it into the ground." Badhru smiles weakly, but his heart clearly isn't in it anymore.

Sefanit points at Dhru. "Ah! Pineapple! I received one as a present on my 13th birthday. Fabulous!"

She leans back onto both her her elbows so she can look up at Nenevekhti without bending her neck too much.

"No offense taken. What do I find beautiful and inspiring? At this very moment, fruit." she replies with a grin.

"But more than anything else it is mysteries." Sefanit raises a leg and wiggles her foot at Drhu. "We're not so different you and I. Thrilled by finding and piecing together the evidence to solve the question. We just pursue different questions."

Sefanit looks back up at Neve. "For me the greatest mysteries are historical. What have we forgotten about the events and people who made us who we are today? We are the creatures the past conspired to create. If we wish to know ourselves, we must unravel that conspiracy."

Shifting to a more business-like tone, she concludes with "My focus is Ancient Osirion, primarily the Second Age. I also focus on the dead languages of Northern Garund."

"Dhru you're looking more baked than I am, and not the good kind. On my way here I learned of this plant that can heal minor wounds and is especially good at healing burns. I found a few on our way here. I want to try it to make sure I am correct, but here, it'll keep us from arriving in Wati with a red half-orc. Use it now or save it until tomorrow if you wish." Gabby throws the orc the desert plant after using it on himself as a sign of good faith.

When he spoke before, Teos would have helped Rani sort out his clothes and created a set of make-shift hot weather clothing for him, allowing a +2 on his rolls to resist the heat.

If Neve is worried by Sefanit's revelation that she and Badhru are into solving mysteries, she doesn't show it. Provided they confine those inquiries to the distant past, it won't affect her in the slightest.

She nods. "I too am interested in the past, although I am more curious about how the Ancients saw the world: what did they consider to be worth recording in their art? What techniques might they have had that we have lost?"

She frowns. "I am also hoping to protect any artwork that we find from looters. I have no objection to it being sold or traded, but I worry that thieves will simply melt any objects down to their base metals for ease of resale." She adds hastily: "Not that I know about such things directly, of course. I have simply heard that it occurs."

Heh.

Looking to quickly change the subject, she raises an eyebrow in the direction of the unknown woman who is part of their caravan, but who has so far kept to herself. Lowering her voice, she informs her companions: "I have heard that our fellow-traveller's name is Namaru Meshhoten, and her bodyguard is called Khamid. Apparently, she is a jeweler and clothier from Wati, returning home after selling her works in the city of Tehpu." She pauses, evidently hesistating for a moment, before continuing even more quietly. "Do not ask me how I discovered this, but she is also a fan of certain... salacious works of literature."

It's probably the sun that is causing Neve's complexion to redden. Probably.

"Then we have a great deal in common Ninevekhti."

Sefanit giggles, then smirks at Neve's last revelation about the woman. "No specific details?"

Neve's discomfort is obvious, but she replies anyway: "I understand that she has a copy of 'In the Court of Night-Blooming Flowers' - the illustrated, full-colour manuscript."

She does her best not to remember the fact that - as Ninevekhti - she became familiar with much within that book.

The distant, dead, past is a much safer topic of conversation.

Teos, I'd like to take Rani's bad roll in a different direction as arrogant neglectfulness not stupidity. He already had hot weather gear he just didn't use it. More in line with his personality. Maybe you pointed out he was being less than wise going around in his scholar's outfit with his head unprotected? Also do you approve of the little story about Peren, I had posted in the discussion? If so, I'll add it to my background.

Rani notices the some of the other caravaneers are followers of Nethys (I think that what was meant}. He'll go over to Val and introduce himself, "Greetings in the sight of the All-Seeing One. I notices that you proclaim your allegiance to his way. I'm trained in the traditions of the diviner; are you magi as well?"

"Neve I think that information may be more valuable than you think, I have an idea." Gabby says with a giant smile. "I gotta find some pen and paper. One of us is going to be an aspiring author to get us in Namaru's good graces. That's our in.

If anyone has a pen I could borrow and some paper I'll throw you a gold to borrow the supplies. If no one in the party has them Gabby will ask around the camp making the same offer

Replying to Gab's kiding, Badhru just says, "Yeah, well it’s clear you never had one, or you'd be droolin’ too.” He points back at Sefanit, “Yeah, she knows what I’m talkin' about."

Seeing Gabradon use the plant on himself, Dhru squeezes some out onto his own exposed skin. "Damn, that is a lot better. Thanks, man." Holding up the leaf, he says to the group at large, "What’s this stuff called? I wanna make a note."

Speaking of which, Gab, you have ink and a pen listed on your sheet already. :)

In response to Rani’s query, Badhru smiles a bit. "Yeah, kinda like a baker. The Old Man didn’t have any immediate family in Absalom. Once or twice he mentioned some more distant relatives, cousins or somethin’, that live on the Avistan mainland, but he never went into detail. No one to leave the agency to but his vukhrov apprentice," he smirks.

Don’t read too much into it, kid, you just said ‘yes’ before the Primarch responded to my letter, says the gruff voice of Woodrose in his head.

"Neve maybe you could assist me in writing a, umm, short story that Namaru would enjoy. It may take a night or two, but maybe it will help us win her over." Gabby says gesturing to an open seat next to him as he pulls out a pen and paper.

For those suffering from the desert's heat, the chill that suddenly radiates off Neve's icily still form may bring a welcome relief - although the look that she levels at Gabby would freeze lava.

"I rather fear, Master Gabradon, that you have mistaken me for - for a different sort of girl. I regret that I must decline your offer, as I lack the sort of expertise you seem to be implying."

Hope that note of slight antagonism is OK - I'm not going for outright conflict, but comic misunderstanding is the stuff of great stories. Let me know.

Cooly turning aside from him, she continues her conversation with Sefanit. "Pineapple is indeed refreshing, but I find mango to be supremely comforting. Sliced and served with a dusting of cinnamon and fresh-made iced yogurt..." she trails off wistfully.

"I think you misunderstood the invitation Neve! You just seemed to be the most creative of us, from what I understand you're an entertainer of sorts. Obviously not that type of entertainer though. Gabby quickly replies turning beet red. Digging himself a hole deeper and deeper with Neve.

I wasn't sure if you could do a perform (oratory) roll to help with the success of the book. Basically just writing your spoken words down lol I didn't think you were a hussy.

Badhru chuckles at the young man's efforts to dig out of this. "I ain't got the knack, sorry. My writing has a certain, uh, let's call it a 'wooden' quality, and leave it at that. You need an inventory taken, or a letter requesting payment for services rendered, I'm yer guy, or so I been told. You impress the Lady with yer prowess, and I'll bill her for it," he quips.

Dhru goes back to his notes, and sees that one of the last few lines references the city laying under a 'dusting of cinnamon'. "Agggh! Seriously, enough with the fruit talk!"

Mostly addressing Teos but loud enough for any to hear. "I'm gathering the impression some requirements need to be met in Wati before we can enter the Necropolis. Do you know what they are?" Rani is now okay enough to participate, his greeting with Val can be moved after this conversation.

"Oh."

The book Neve referenced draws nothing but a blank for Sefanit. Her mention of full-color illustrations makes it easy to guess the subject of the book. But Sefanit's experience in that area is fairly skimpy, not enough to really imagine what it might have to say about the subject.

Sefanit offers up some paper to Gabradon and watches with amusement as Gabradon tries to dig himself out from under his gaffe with Neve.

He's kind of cute when he's flummoxed. But it seems he might be flummoxed a lot.

When Gabby redirects his request to Dhru and her though, things get sticky. She's not offended, but she can barely imagine what one would need to put into a story like he's suggesting. She's sympathetic to the stinging he just received from Neve, and doesn't want to do the same to him. But she also doesn't want to claim ignorance and seem like a dumb little girl.

Um,.. Well, if some of the best nights of your life began with strange women giving you pills, I don't think I can offer up anything to top what you have already. Maybe a "shared appreciation" of that kind of literature would be a better approach than a "creative writing" one?"

Still smiling, Teos shakes his head at Rani's question.
"I am sorry, but I do not know much about any requirements. I believe this is a rare occasion...maybe one of the other travelers might know more about it."

That said, the guard wanders over to the group headed by the Taldan woman by the name of Velriana.

"Greeting and salutations. My companions over yonder have asked about requirements in joining the opening of the necropolis. Do you have any information on any such restrictions?"

Badhru rifles through his notes. "Sorry, I don't see anything in here about that."

At Teos' comment, the half-orc gets up to tag along. "Good thinkin'." Plus, keeps me from making any more ridiculous errors in my notes.

Dhru would tag along just out of curiosity, unless Teos waves him off. He'd keep his mouth shut unless sepcifically addressed or he knew he had something to add to the conversation (this was Teos' thing, let him run with it).
