Thank you for the selection! I will keep my eye out for the discussion thread.

Discussion tab is up, see you there :)

Sad I missed this. If you ever need a replacement player, I'd love to get on board with this game.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Recruitment reopened!

We're in need of 2 players for this game, as we've lost our paladin/ninja and our cleric. We would like a character with a connection to the divine, and I would personally love a character utilizing one of the occult classes (not kineticist).

The only changes to the OP in regards to character creation is that the Occult Adventures Playtest is no longer valid as your additional source book, however Occult Adventures is available by default.

I feel it prudent to mention that it is my fault that we lost the 2 players initially. I disappeared with not a word, and has only recently returned to finish what I started. I can safely say that won't happen again though :) This also means, however, that we have not actually started the module yet, so you have all chances to get the full experience.

I look forward to playing with you.

So.. You have a gunslinger and an investigator? I'll have to think on that one a little bit.

So, here's a cleric. He still needs fluff, and on thinking on it again, I might have looked more at what the party seems to lack (Divine Casting, melee capability) than what might fit with the presented setting, so either I'll have to remedy that in the fluff.

Anyway.

Doomed Hero here, submitting Desmond Ravenscourt for consideration.

Desmond is an odd sort of Summoner, bound to things he wishes he wasn't. In another life he probably would have been an Inquisitor of Pharasma, but that isn't the path life chose for him.

His backstory is in the alias, as is the bare bones of the character. Right now he's level 1, but it gives a pretty good idea of the direction he's headed. I'll finish leveling him up tonight or tomorrow. (I wanted to get him into the recruitment running, but didn't have time to fully finish him right now).

Please let me know what you think.

How long do you think you'll be leave re-recruitment open? I'm thinking about ideas for a spiritualist. I also looked at the medium, but it seems 1) complicated and 2) difficult to build for/carry all the right equipment for.

I'll keep it open until monday. that should be long enough? :)

Doomed Hero and The Dragon, if you're selected, would you be alright with changing the layout of your character sheet to match CampinCarls?

In regards to the characters:
– Kerin: I've never heard of the deity Trudd. Where does he figure?
– Desmond: I really like the character, but be aware that the amount of character development will most likely be minimal during the module. you probably won't get many chances to explore your background's influence.

mechaPoet: I think all of the occult classes seem somewhat complicated. This is also one of the reasons I wish to see them in play. If you have an idea, please, I'd love to see it :)

I decided to challenge myself to make a medium, to try and see how it works. The additional book I've selected is the Advanced Race Guide so I can play a Gillman (although I've alternately referred to them as Gillfolk here).

Let me know what you think! Ulmaria is a Gillfolk medium, focused on being a powerful front liner but able to change skills and abilities every 24 hours. I'll make a proper alias if chosen.

Background:

Ulmaria grew up in Diobel on the Isle of Kortos, working as a pearl diver from a young age. They passed the time chatting with sailors, traders, and especially Pathfinders, using her meager pay to buy drinks for strangers in exchange for their stories. One Pathfinder, a human scholar named Viviane Licheria, became a regular visitor and friend, one who specialized in Azlanti lore and ruins. Viviane saw potential in the young Low Azlanti, and encouraged them to pursue more knowledge of their impressive ancestors’ past. Ulmaria took her suggestion to heart, and started exploring the submerged Azlanti ruins around the Isle of Kortos. In the presence of those ancient sites, the psychic magic in Ulmaria awoke, and she discovered that she could channel ancient Azlanti legends, heroes and villains alike.

With her newly discovered abilities, Ulmaria was no longer content to be a simple pearl diver. She roamed the streets and waters of Diobel, helping those in need, taking on thuggish sailors, cavorting with revelers, and even talking magical theory with passing mages on the rare occasions that she channelled the Archmage. Viviane invited her to move to Absalom and join the Pathfinders, but she was enjoying being a big fish in a small pond too much to quit. Meanwhile, others had noticed Ulmaria as well. When a particularly aggressive group of harpies attacked the town, she set out to join the fight, luckily having channelled an Azlanti Champion. The battle was bitter, and it took everything Ulmaria had to win - including losing control to the Champion.

When she awoke, she found herself underwater, in a cave she had never seen before. She called on the Champion and set out to uncover where she was. Navigating the maze of underwater caves, Ulmaria found that she had been imprisoned when she came across an old Azlanti style gate blocking the only exit they could find. The ancient metal proved no match for the Champion’s might, though, and Ulmaria managed to put enough of a dent in a weak spot to push through. The tunnel continued, and she came upon a perilous battle: Pathfinder agents - including Viviane - locked in battle with an aboleth. The creature sent shudders down the gillfolk’s spine, and she charged forward to aid the struggling Pathfinders. Blood was shed on both sides, and Ulmaria felt their mind especially weak to the aberration’s mental attacks, but eventually the creature was driven off.

In the aftermath, Viviane revealed that she was a member of the Chtonian Chroniclers, and offered Ulmaria a field commission. Intrigued by her offer and disturbed by the creature that had imprisoned them and so affected their mind, Ulmaria finally agreed to join the Pathfinder Society to learn more about the Dark Tapestry and what could be done to combat its horrors. She now finds herself in Ustalav, hoping that she's made the right decision to leave her small pond and dive into deeper mysteries that may be better left untouched.

Appearance and Personality:

Ulmaria is hearty and strong with a nice layer of fat over their muscles to guard against the cold waters around Diobel and Absalom that she's used to. She has the classic Azlanti features that Gillfolk often display: dark hair, impressive brows, pale skin, and vivid purple eyes. She wears a full set of plate armor, magically tinted a dark blue-green color and engraved with a sea motif.

They are curious and jovial, especially for the usually reclusive gillfolk, with a love for trading stories with travelers, revelers, and all sorts. The spirit they channel also seems to have an impact on their personality; Ulmaria especially favors the Champion spirits she can contact, although they sometimes push her to brash decisions and the occasional fight that could have been smoothed over with the right words.

I don't know if you'd still like to see some more applicants or not, but if you do, may I suggest the possibility of a new thread specifically for re-recruitment?

I know that I usually don't bother investigating recruitment threads if they're already over a page or two, unless the title strikes me or a specific date is listed in the opening post. I only noticed this was a reopened thread because of the date on the first post. Even with a short time frame, a new thread might attract a few more applications, if you think you'd like some.

I considered it, but decided to go with this approach. Purely for simplicity. If it hadn't gotten any traction at all, I would have gone for your suggestion though.

I look forward to the result :) I can deduce that it's a class using d8 hit dice so far ;)

Putting together an occultist as a submission.

Alright, I'm closing recruitment. JoshB, you have 12 hours to finish your profile in case you're still interested :)

Grand Lodge

Dang! And this looks really interesting too. I've been looking for in a occult game for a while to play one of the new occult classes. I have a John Constantine esque character just waiting to be played in something like this.

Since I saw it 30 minutes after I closed it, feel free to post your character. We're waiting on Josh anyway right? :)

Grand Lodge

Oh that's great! Thank you very much for giving me a chancetwo2 posts my character a little to fit your specifications and then post them. I did have a quick question though . Are you okay with me taking the Pre-errata version of the feat "Believers Boon"?

So long as you're not attempting to break something, go ahead and take the pre-errata version.

Grand Lodge

I definitely understand your wariness. limiting the feat is understandable and some cases because I can see someone going crazy with it, but as it stands in its most recent incarnation makes it a shade away from useless so I appreciate your ruling. Character is forthcoming.

Joshb's submission.

I'm writing up a background and fluff for him right now.

(sorry, I need to replace power attack as one of his feats. I missed your house rule on those feats)

Replacing power attack with amateur investigator.

Background for Yorrik:

Name: Yorrik Ironeye

Alignment: Neutral Good (he doesn’t see much use for strict laws, but at the same time thinks that chaos only benefits the spread of the dark tapestry)

Appearance: Yorrik is an averaged size half-elf. He stands around six feet tall and is a heavily muscled 190 pounds. He has long, dark hair that he ties loosely in the back. His most distinguishing feature is that his left eye is a steely-grey while his right eye is amber in color.
He wears a red surcoat over his chainmail and carries a curved Qadiran sword slung across his back. A strange eye-shaped pendant hangs on a chain about his neck. His hands are covered by a pair of black leather gauntlets, inset with strange metal rivets.

Background: Yorrik’s Taldan parents were pathfinders and part-time merchants who lived in Qadira most of their lives. He was raised and educated there, working in their business as they balanced their activities between investigating the occult and profiting from trade.
While running their spice business, they searched for items bearing a connection to the occult and funneled the most interesting ones back to their superiors.
Around the age of twenty, Yorrik’s parents were killed when they opened a chest that contained an extra-dimensional portal. A gibbering, many-tentacled beast from beyond emerged into their workshop and consumed them.
Not having a reason or desire to stay in the place where his parent’s perished, Yorrik took to the road as a traveling investigator. He works for the Cthonian Chroniclers, hunting down items with connection to the beyond in order to prevent others from perishing the same way his parents did.
He has recently been sent to Ustalav to search for the Urodanish Codex, a tome that supposedly details the worship of forbidden deities by the great underground ghoul empires.

Personality: Yorrik honestly wants to help and protect the world from the dangers that people don’t even realize that exist in the world. At times he loses patience with the people who do not or cannot understand the dangers presented by the unknown forces at work in the world. He can be sarcastic with such people when he loses patience with those people.

Grand Lodge

Here is the crunch. Almost done tweaking it. I know I'm running late but I wanted to throw down as much of my idea as I can while feverishly working to finish.

Grand Lodge

I just wanted to put out there that my fluff and crunch were totally finished a bit ago, but wanted to make sure. Thanks for the opportunity!

Appearance:

Standing at three foot even, Gregoria somehow manages to cut a distinct figure. Her high collared armored jacket fits tightly in a double breasted formation with tails and brass buttons running parallel to ech other down the front. Her dark slacks tuck into knee high leather laced boots flaunting a plethora of buckles. Archaic tattoos peek out from under the jacket and cover the base of her hands which usually wield some form of tobacco. The tattoos stretch all over her body interconnecting and twisting from arcane to religious to beyond.
Her features are sullen and cold with a certain sharpness to them. This combined with the fact that all her hair is bleached white contrasting with her black clothing paints an unsettling image.

Backstory:

Born as an only child into a famous monster hunting family-based in southern Soivoda, Gregoria was raised to be unattached and grew to fear the things that go bump in the night. Occult advisors to a noble bloodline the nobles of that particular district believed themselves to be somewhat invincible with Gregoria's family at their side. Unlike her parents Gregoria wasn't brave. And even worse she lacked an aptitude for arcane studies and the faith for cleric work like many of her ancestors. She was effectively a Dead branch on their famous family tree when she was supposed to be taking up the mantle. Her family put enormous pressure on her constantly running her through drills and lessons in an effort to mold her into the position.

But just as she came of age she suffered a trauma devastated her family standing. And the worst part is that it might have been her fault. In her efforts to find her niche as an advisor to the noble family of Nyssalov, she dug deep into the musty tomes and archives regarding the history of the occult. She did this out of a belief that the hundreds of artifacts her family had accumulated over the years could serve more of a purpose than just dusty symbols of past victories. Through this research she was able to identify a nascent sensitivity she possessed to these items and was eventually able to access them to unlock untold power.

At first she was pleased but she finally found a way to aid in her families legacy. But her study had sent her deep into the archives of her family's history, she had stumbled upon something horrid a dark secret that her family had kept for generations. Almost every Every Crowley who had existed was tainted from promising A piece of their soul to some dark entities from beyond. The names of the beings were strange and their very existence defied comprehension. Apparently this small sacrifice TVs elder horrors allowed her family to gain their lauded position as heroes. But beyond that, they had traded away a piece of HER soul. And apparently it was a tradition.Disgusted with them beyond words, she decided to leave her family her destiny and venture out into Ustalov much more jaded and and powerful entity.

She left without ever confronting them, taking as many artifacts and monster slaying tools she could. Using her newfound power she decided to try and restore her family's name to the idealistic Legend that it was. As the years went by, she never ended up speaking with her family again. Eventually her family died out leaving her the sole heir and positioning house Nyssalov into a state of decay and compromise. Without their advisors and magicians, their hold on the county was questionable. All of this did leave her with a nasty reputation in the land, despite the good she was trying to accomplish, turning her to pursue more cynical endeavors. She isn't sure whether her new moniker came from the noble family, a parting gift from her own, or just some angry citizen, but from then on she was known as "The Gutter Mage".

Alright, making final reviews of the submissions, and will sleep on it. The new recruits will be revealed when I get up tomorrow morning :)

Grand Lodge

Sounds good. I had to fix one or two tiny mistakes but I've gone over it three more times and believe it's solid.

MechaPoet as Ulmaria and Doomed Hero as Desmond Ravencourt, I'd like to see your characters in the discussion thread when you're able :)

Thanks to everyone for showing interest, it was a joy to read your character entries :)
