Memnon the Mimir |
"I still had a Fire Serpent spell memorized. Now I can't even recall how to form the syllables. B@st@rd drained my life energy, my experience." Justin mutters wearily. He looks ashen.
Memnon tsks. How he does it without a tongue is a mystery
"You need A restoration potion. I can help you with that"
Naridre Ro'Arisahshe |
"Nari think you can check if that thing is going to try and fry us or not?"
"I always assume that a thing is going to try and fry us. Sometimes I am pleasantly surprised," Nari said absently, studying the strange structure in front of them. "But I am happy to go and check the entrance first, so it at least doesn't fry both of us," she said with a small smile to indicate she was joking. Mostly.
Dungeon Monkey |
I am going to assume you all decide that discretion is the better part of valor..
The party retreats from the ossuary and the necromantic ooze, back to the ghoul room. The aroma of decaying burnt flesh assails them as they gather their wits. After a tense moment, it seems as if whatever the ooze was, it cannot follow them through the portal.

Dungeon Monkey |
Nari advances closer to the southern end of the central sphere. The lightning that plays off the various spheres illuminates a circle there every time it alights in the area. It seems like a different-colored patch of metal, one shade lighter than the ebon hue of the sphere.
Nari puts out a tentative hand to touch it, and her fingers sink into the spot. It seems to be some sort of portal. She pulls her fingers out quickly, and then examines them. They look unharmed
Hamar of the Hyena Tribe |
Hamar steps out of the deadly chamber and awaits the advice of his new allies. While skilled in his own ways, he is out of his depth here and he knows it.
Justin Case |
In Pathfinder negative levels don't drain spells.
Ah? Cool, good to know, thanks! :)
Memnon tsks. How he does it without a tongue is a mystery"You need A restoration potion. I can help you with that"
"Yeah, that'd be great, thanks, just let me get,..." He makes a show of patting his pockets and peeking into his backback.
"Ah nuts. I left my Alchemy set in the OTHER coat!" He says with exaggerated frustration. Then he looks at Memnon intently.
"Unless,... you've got one of those in there too?" He asks genuinely hopeful as he tries to peer past the glowing eye sockets into the crystal skulls interior.
The joke having drained what spark of energy he had, he sits back and opens his pack for real.
"I dunno Memnon, I've got a pot and pan here, as long as we don't have to distill any essence of Necro-goop or something I might be able to improvise. 'Specially if Ekuur can lend a hand with positive energies. If we had everything, what would we need for a restoration potion?" he asks the crystal skull now floating next to him.
Justin Case |
The skull wiggles in the way that seems to signify a shrug
"You need diamond dust mostly. A base liquid, I prefer using distilled alcohol of some sort. A pinch of salt and some iron filings and *shazam*"
"Hm,... I've got enough Diamond dust here for another Stoneskin spell, that should be enough. Heh, don't we all prefer alcohol? Salt is easy, Iron filings,..." Justin sticks his tongue out slightly as he twists to reach a rarely-searched back pocket, "ah there they are, I use 'em for location spells."
He looks at Memnon curiously. "Um,'Shazam'? I'm not familiar with that Word of Power." Justin says, pulling out his small, battered notebook.
Justin Case |
"I dunno." Justin looks up from where he sits with Memnon floating nearby.
"If that creature can't get through the hallway/portal, then we're less likely to get interrupted here than on a world full of undead with no boundaries." The wizard points out.
Apparently having his life force drained hasn't slowed down Justin's proclivity for excessive verbage.
"These Ioun stones seem to be holding back the negative planes effects perfectly well, we should be able to rest and recuperate here. I'll admit I'd feel more comfortable back on the World Tree, or even Sigil. But the last thing I want is to run into even MORE trouble traveling when I'm already low on offensive spellpower."
Karrin Kind |
"Well resting would be nice, but we left two friends back home and I don't feel comfortable leaving them alone in that temple. I'm sure there's more then one of those masked ghosts flying about and I wouldn't like the two of them encountering one of them without front line support. We can't stay with party split, perhaps we can return after we've rested."
Dungeon Monkey |
"Seems safe enough so......." Merle steps through the portal
Merle steps into the oval and suddenly feels the gut-wrenching feeling of a portal. She is suddenly standing on a black flagstone floor. The room she is in is empty, the ceiling curving up into a dome overhead. There is gravity here. Four round openings lead off the sphere. They seem to be attached to flexible hallways that sway ungulently. The material of the hallways is black with a rainbow oily sheen to it.
Nari sees Merle vanish and Seph involuntarily gasps

Justin Case |
"Agreed. If we're worried about being interrupted by undead, I can't see your friends having that fun a time right now." Blaze says thoughtfully.
"Good points." Justin nods, his forehead suddenly wrinkling in concern.
"Although those two ladies are so full of surprises, I almost feel sorry for anything that stumbles into the temple and finds them. Almost." He smirks with some of his old energy as he rises to his feet. Although at one point he uses Memnon as a steadying support, eliciting an outraged yelp from the crystal skull. Justin murmurs an apology and holds open his bag for Memnon to retreat to.
Ekuur |
"I dunno." Justin looks up from where he sits with Memnon floating nearby.

"I certainly would not deign to argue with you, Justin. I would remind you, though, that when we entered this place, we saw more of those masked undead entering this place. We have not encountered them in here yet. I suspect they are still around somewhere."
Arnav Longarm |
Arnav examines the wounds he has. He sometimes forgets since pain... doesn't feel much like pain anymore. "If we're going, we should leave. The longer that we're gone, the worse things will be."
But while they have a moment, he drinks from a strange bottle that seems to curve in on itself. Within there still seems to be fluid in an inner chamber. He refills it with water.
CSW potion from bountiful bottle: 3d8 + 5 ⇒ (1, 6, 8) + 5 = 20
Ekuur |
Noticing Arnav's actions, Ekuur steps forward. "Forgive me, Arnav." He lays his hand him, and intones a quiet prayer. Arnav feels a warm heat wash over him, and more of his injuries mend themselves.

Justin winces. Apparently he HAD forgotten about the masked demon-ghosts. He pinches the bridge of his nose, grateful for Ekuur's distraction of providing healing while he re-gathered what was left of his rapidly-swindling thoughts.
Justin glances at Memnon in the barely-opened bag now hanging from his belt. "Take notes. When he's right, He's right." Justin murmurs to the crystal skull.
Justin Case |
Memnon's eye lights twinkle
"He's a smart guy, seems like. Maybe I should have worked for him"
Justin shrugs.
"He's a good sort. And smart. Heck with fire. Buuut, he gets a little cranky if you start using cold spells. Not as open -minded as I like to think I am." He whispers to Memnon.
Naridre Ro'Arisahshe |
Sorry for the delay. My whole family came down with a nasty cold at the same time. Had to take some time offline. For the sleeping, and the sneezing, and the blowing of the nose. :P
Nari holds out her hand towards Seph. "Shall we go through the door together? I know that would make me feel better. Doors into unknown scary probably almost definitely evil places are usually quite scary, and I must say this is no exception, but Merle is on the other side, so we have to go through, but I can't leave you out here alone either....and I'm talking too much again, aren't I? I don't think I used to do that. I was too busy with internal arguments to have much to say...Alright, on three. One. Two. Three."
Naridre Ro'Arisahshe |
"Oh, good, we found you....ugh...what happened here?" she asked, her initial smile turning into a frown as she put her sleeve over her nose to try and block out the smell. She started rummaging in her bag. "What did I do with that peppermint oil? I'm sure it's in here somehwere...."
Arnav Longarm |
With the healing, he's feeling much better, but there are still signs of the beating he's taken. "Imagine a six foot tall vial of liquid undead." he says. "And it's leaking. Beware that entrance." he says, pointing to the portal.
"But it's good to see friendly, living faces."
Hamar of the Hyena Tribe |
Hamar starts at the appearance of his female companions. He drifts towards Justin and whispers "Wizard, is there any way to know they are who we think they are?"
Justin Case |
Justin smiles at the sound of the familiar voices. He does seem to smile more often when the ladies are around. He's just happy that they are safe and sound. Yeah, that's it.
Hamar starts at the appearance of his female companions. He drifts towards Justin and whispers "Wizard, is there any way to know they are who we think they are?"
Justin's smile at the sight of Merle, Nari and Seph rejoining them suddenly falters.
"Dangit Hamar." Justin sighs heavily.
"We haven't known each other long enough for you to be picking up my paranoia. SO that means your already as bad as I am." The wizard grumbles.
And once more Justin mentally kicks himself for the limited number of Divinations in his spellbook.
"Yes, there are. But I don't carry around a lot of spells like that. Don't worry, it's them." Justin assures Hamar. "Who ELSE would be crazy enough to follow us into an ancient floating temple in a dead void?!?" He says to put Hamar's worries to rest.
But sharp-eared Hamar likely hears Justin muttering a simple swift chant under his breath, and murmuring a question to Memnon.
Cast Detect Magic and look at the newcomers.
"Hey, Memnon? I don't suppose your plethora of encyclopedic knowledge and abilities includes the ability to truth-see? You know, Pierce illusions, or see shapeshifters?" Justin casually and quietly asks the crystal skull.
"In a place like this, a little paranoia is NOT a bad thing!" He adds, but seems to be speaking to himself, not Memnon.
Justin Case |
"Normal? Hm. Most definitely not them then." Justin says straight faced.
The wizard winks at Memnon. "Thanks."
Justin waves at the newest arrivals. "Hey everyone. Glad you could make it. Sorry you missed the party." He says, indicating the ghoulish remains around the room.
"I don't suppose you know a good cleaner for getting out liquefied Necromancy?" He asks wryly, shaking his still-damp coat sleeve.
The wizard pulls out one of the chairs, checks to make sure it isn't covered in anything unpleasant, and plops plops into it wearily. After a moment, he heaves his backpack onto the tabletop and begins sorting through it.
"Ok Memnon, can we really make this potion with what we have here? I'm sure we could do better with an actual lab,... Hm,..."
Justin looks thoughtful, the kind of thoughtful that makes him look like he's trying not to facepalm himself.
"I really need to experiment with extradimensional spaces more. Having a lab in a pocket dimension would be a REALLY good idea, especially for creating magic items and potions on the go. I swear if I get a week sitting in one place, that's my next project."
Justin Case |
"Peh this is nothing Nari and I had to take care of a room of about what 50 zombies?" Merle to Nari causing Seph to roll his eyes at Merles slight overcalculation.
Justin raises an eyebrow.
'Even given Merle's predilection for overstatement, <divide by half, Multiply difficulty to account for it being an undead world,..., divide by Seph's eyeroll,...> ,...'
Justin raises both eyebrows. Yep. Still impressive.
"So,... what? You got bored and decided to make sure that we were OK and not in over our heads?"
Justin glances at Arnav's battered form and notices he is still leaning on the table for support.
"Good thinking." Justin agrees, turning back to Memnon.
I just realized that I have not been keeping track of 'expensive components' like the diamond dust for Stoneskin. My bad! I don't cast that one often, so I'll defer to DM on whether Justin has one more dose left or not. :) (I have to check treasure list, we may be able to make a batch of diamond dust?) :/ I swear my Game Life is going the way of my RL ;P
Naridre Ro'Arisahshe |
"Ah, here it is," she said, pulling out a small vial, dripping some onto her fingers and rubbing it under her nose. "That's better. Anyone else want some? It makes the smell much more bearable. And I don't think it was fifty zombies. I wasn't counting exactly. Somewhere between ten and twenty I think. Probably. I don't think more than that would have fit in the area of effect. Anyhow, yes, we got very, very bored and after much discussion decided that we are actually terrible at following directions and should find you to make sure you hadn't gotten in over your heads, just like you said," she said overly brightly.
