Justin Case |
Justin slips into line near Arnav, hoping to be able to have a clear shot with any magic needed, front or back. He holds his lightning wand in one hand, his conjured spheres of light hovering around his shoulders, 2 in front, 2 behind. His 3 ioun stones whiz in circles, casting strange shadows on his face as they pass.
Dungeon Monkey |
Hamar approaches the entrance and steps in. He is visible as the makes his way into the swaying tubular corridor, then he vanishes
Hamar:
This room has a long table where six horrid creatures play cards. At his arrival, they leap to their feet, pulling swords out. They are ghouls, but there is a certain quality about them. These are no simple tomb scavenging undead. Their armor is spotless, their clothing as good as any living being. Their faces pale, but clean with glowing red eyes narrowed thoughtfully at the intruder. One laughs evilly
"Well well! Look at the juicy fly that has fallen into our master's web!"
Hamar of the Hyena Tribe |
Then, Hamar enters a Dervish Dance and charges to the right of the Ghouls, he circles the table his Scimitars lashing out at the deadly creatures from odd and impossible angles. He dives over, under even kips off of the wall to leap above their counterattacks! All the while his form is a blur of movement.

Acrobatics Tumble #6 1d20 + 22 ⇒ (20) + 22 = 42
Hamar will begin to circle them moving at least 6' and attacking, as he only has four attacks he can only attack four of them but that is ok as knows reinforcements will arrive soon enough. Just realized my armor has the Deathless quality so it and the Ioun operate in the same fashion. He gets an Acrobatic check to move through threatened squares, I will make 6 rolls as I assume that he will move through all of the threatened squares. With a move of 55' he will probably get around the table once, he will stand just to the left of the portal as he does not want to be in the way when Karrin and Arnav roll in and come crushing these poor souls... :[)
Justin Case |
Justin waits tensely after Hamar vanishes into the darkness.
He waits a little more. He turns to Ekuur.
""Where's the 'Kaboom!'? There was supposed to be a world-shattering 'Kaboom!'" The wizard says in a nasally voice. He grins.
The wizard looks at Ekuur, then Karrin, then the others. He sighs.
"I gotta get a better audience. Whose next?"
Justin Case |
"Blades aren't usually all that loud, just messy. You wanna hear blasts, let me in there?" Blayze says with a grin, twirling her pistol.
As Karrin steps into the entryway, and vanishes? Justin looks at Blayze with a grin and waggles his eyebrows.
"Sounds like a plan. By all means, Ladies first!" Justin indicates for Blayze to precede him.
Presuming that she does?
Justin looks at Ekuur and grins.
"Abandon ship! Women, Children and Wizards first!" He laughs as he steps into the entryway,...
Arnav Longarm |
Arnav will let Ekuur through and then move through himself.
Since he will be alone he sees no need for a witty quip, and by doing so he does a service to the more ... loquacious ... members of the party.
Dungeon Monkey |
Three ghouls come at Hamar. The other three head towards the newly arrived party
Ghoul1Hamar: 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (1) + 16 = 171d20 + 11 ⇒ (14) + 11 = 251d6 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 71d6 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6

Crit confirm: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (20) + 11 = 311d6 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6

At this point I forgot to roll the ghoul's initiative for the first round. I am giving Hamar the drop on them. I'm rolling it now, and you guys can roll your initative (do you like doing individual better? Let me know). Only these three will attack Hamar, and the other three will go around to get at you all with their movements while you are porting in. So we will start with a fresh initiative and a full round
initiative ghouls: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (2) + 6 = 8
Oh and any successful hit, I'll need a DC18 Fort save from anyone
Justin Case |
Justin exits the portal, sways a bit, then steps to the side, still smiling.
THEN he sees Hamar moving, hears the clatter of combat, and sees what else is in the room waiting for them.
Scratch that, COMING for them!
"Oh,... All Kinda Nine Hells." Justin mutters blankly, eyes widening.
He raises his arms, and his hands fill with flames,...
Init! :) Group or individual, I'm happy either way. (I've noticed that when we get busy, sometimes group roll seems to help keeps us going a little smoother?)
Justin Init: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (19) + 3 = 22
OR you can use THAT as the group roll! :)
Hamar of the Hyena Tribe |
Hamar attempts to Dervish yet again but finds himself held fast by the vile touch of the Ghouls...
Hamar of the Hyena Tribe |
All good Hamar. Have at it. Your attack
Blayze |
With a stylish flourish, Blayze levels her gun at the ghoul directly ahead of her, the roar of gunfire echoig through the chamer as her shot, a glowing streak of white, slams into her target.
Smiting Shot:Ranged touch: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (15) + 14 = 29
Ignores all DR: 1d8 + 16 ⇒ (5) + 16 = 21
1 GRIT POINT SPENT
Arnav Longarm |
Arnav moves in among the ghouls, risking their wrath. In this position, he can strike at most of them if they try to move on. As he moves, his weapon begins to glow. He strikes out at one of the ones in the back.
Moving to N18, or equivalent if they've moved. I provoke 2 AoO's. Spending 2pp to charge his blade.

Justin Case |
1 person marked this as a favorite. |
"Hey Blayze! Time for those Big Kabooms we were talkin' about!" Justin says.
He slams his hands together, forcing the flames in them to feed each other as he chants words of power. The ball of flame grows brighter, the flames trying to escape his grasp. He pulls both hands back, then hurls the ball of flame forward and cries, "Fuego Intensificar!"
And Justin sends the ball of flames screaming into the chamber like a pyromaniacs wet dream.
I have been waiting to use my Intensified Fireball! :) If my math is right (And it rarely is.) ;P If I target M20, I should be able to hit ALL of the ghouls, and only singe Hamar's Hair! ;P And since I move before all but Karrin, The others should be safe from the blast, yes? ;)
Fireball Dmg: (with all CL bonuses + Intensified, 14D6)
14d6 + 5 ⇒ (6, 5, 6, 1, 3, 5, 1, 6, 6, 3, 2, 4, 2, 6) + 5 = 61
Dungeon Monkey |
Oh and your math looks good sensei. I'll have to adjudicate what's the result. Even if they fail it wont outright kill them, but a lot of them are walking wounded. You do go first (except for Hamar), so we shall see. I'm going to roll Reflexes, let me know what the DC is
reflexG1: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (3) + 8 = 11
reflexG2: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (6) + 8 = 14
reflexG3: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (18) + 8 = 26
reflexG4: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (8) + 8 = 16
reflexG5: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (8) + 8 = 16
reflexG6: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (1) + 8 = 9
The blast arcs out and detonates somewhere near the table the ghouls had been sitting at. the fire sucks the air from the room with a painful rush as the heat blasts the party. Hamar feels the flames licking his hair, but the globe of fire is tightly constrained, stopping mere inches from his face.
OK, as soon as I get a DC, I'll adjudicate the other attacks.
Ekuur |
Ekuur arrives into the room just ahead of Arnav, but as normal, his large frame and lack of reflexes has him acting last. He sees the huge fireball from Justin go off, and just has to smile at the way it cleanses the decayed flesh on the ghouls.
I'd like to see the results of everyone else's attacks before deciding on my action; Ekuur's getting low on spells (especially higher level) but still has a psionic trick or two if needed ...
Cartographer Monkey |
A couple of things: The numbers are just for me to track which ghoul gets what. The gold stars are tunnel openings. Also, I kind of goofed. This fortress has no gravity. There are also tunnel entrances top and bottom of the sphere. I'm going to adjudicate that there is LIGHT gravity, and you can reach whichever tunnel entrance you want, but we don't have to deal with zero-gee fighting penalties
Hamar of the Hyena Tribe |
Round 2
Dervish Dance +2 Attacks and Damage, +2 AC while moving and Dervishing AC=20, with Dodge, 21 vs. the one who will be closest to me when I stop moving. Deathless Absorb 10 Damage Negative Energy. Electricity Resistance 20 (from Ekuur)
Hamar continues his Dervish Dance of death by leaping over the ones who charged at him slicing downwards at the first one to his right with a backslash.
Acrobatics - Tumble #1 1d20 + 22 ⇒ (1) + 22 = 23 Off, looks like I fell right into him and an AoO there!
Attack #1 Scimitar Planar - Keen 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (7) + 13 = 20
Off balance from his poor leap, his first slash misses.
He then charges again to the right of the Ghouls, using the large Arnav as cover and for a flank! he announced he was moving up so I am assuming his presence there even though the map does not show it
Attack #2 Off-Hand Vorpal 1d20 + 15 + 2 ⇒ (17) + 15 + 2 = 34
1d20 + 15 + 2 ⇒ (20) + 15 + 2 = 37 - Damage 2d6 + 10 + 2d6 ⇒ (5, 2) + 10 + (4, 3) = 24
Acrobatics Tumble #2 1d20 + 22 ⇒ (2) + 22 = 24
He then picks up speed slashing at the last one to the right.
Attack #3 Scimitar Planar - Keen 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (8) + 8 = 16
The strikes by the ghouls seem to have affected Hamar who seems off balance in his movements this time around.
Instead of heading around the table, a predictable move based on what he did mere moments ago, he dives onto the table! Tumbling through them and leaping off to land on his feet and slash at the farthest on to the left once more.
Acrobatics Tumble #3 1d20 + 22 ⇒ (17) + 22 = 39
Acrobatics Tumble # 4 1d20 + 22 ⇒ (19) + 22 = 41
Acrobatics Tumble #5 1d20 + 22 ⇒ (19) + 22 = 41
Acrobatics Tumble #6 1d20 + 22 ⇒ (7) + 22 = 29
Attack # 4 Off-Hand Vorpal 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (3) + 10 = 13. Indeed as his last swing fails to land he appears to be more of a distraction that a threat to these foes!
Ending away from the circle where the fireball will fall.
Dungeon Monkey |
OK. Here we go..
Hamar begins another death dance, but seems slowed by his wounds, his Panther-like grace not in evidence this time. A ghoul gets a swipe as he begins his run, but he gets a few in as well, further wounding the undead
AOO Hamar: 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (10) + 16 = 261d6 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7
As he finishes, Justin's fireball explodes, killing two of the ghoul's outright 2&4. Arnav wades into battle, his immense crystal sword slashing another in twain G3. Blayze fires off a shot, the bullet finding its mark in a foe G5
The remaining three ghouls shreik as gobbets of smoking flesh fall from their charred bones. Despite their grievous charring, they remain upright and mobile
1,5&6 still standing
Ekuur |
Ekuur, smelling the char in the air, cuts into the closest ghoul with his flaming trikal, breaking bones and further searing the dead flesh.
attack 1 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (18) + 12 = 30 damage 1d10 + 7 + 1d6 ⇒ (10) + 7 + (6) = 23
attack 2 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (14) + 7 = 21 damage 1d10 + 7 + 1d6 ⇒ (6) + 7 + (5) = 18
Karrin Kind |
If the two are reachable via cleave attack, that is within 10ft of each other, Karrin will move in to pollish them off:
first attack: 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (11) + 16 = 27
damage: 1d12 + 8 + 1d6 ⇒ (3) + 8 + (2) = 13
cleave: 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (4) + 16 = 20
damage: 1d12 + 8 + 1d6 ⇒ (12) + 8 + (2) = 22
Hamar of the Hyena Tribe |
Round 3
Hamar focuses all of his attacks on the one that Karrin struck second.
Attack #1 Scimitar Planar - Keen 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (14) + 13 = 27 - Damage 1d6 + 3 + 2d6 ⇒ (3) + 3 + (4, 6) = 16 Skirmish & Dervish on first attack only.
Attack #2 Off-Hand Vorpal 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (15) + 13 = 28 - Damage 1d6 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 5 = 7
Attack #3 Scimitar Planar - Keen 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (6) + 6 = 12
Attack #4 Off-Hand Vorpal 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (19) + 10 = 29
Confirm Crit. 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (19) + 8 = 27 - Damage 2d6 + 10 ⇒ (3, 6) + 10 = 19
Dungeon Monkey |
Karrin's first attack lops one ghouls head clean off his shoulders, the blood spray freezing into a black icicle as his body falls. Her follow up on the next ghoul misses, but Hamar's attack quickly brings him low.
As the party relaxes a moaning sound suddenly makes itself heard. Wisps of black ectoplasm exude up out of the dead ghouls, coalescing into a large swirling amorphous mass at the top of the sphere. Several red eyes stud the amoebic specter , and black tentacles writhe from the mass, whipping towards the party
Someone roll me a new initiative?
Justin Case |
What's the DC Reflex on that?
So sorry, skipped out of town like 30 seconds after that last post, Mechacon & family time stuff. ;P You can always find that info on my profile PC page, (IF you care to read through ALL of the stuff I keep on there to find it, I keep ALL the info in case I need it.) :)
DC ref vs 3rd lvl Evocation spells : DC:19
EDIT: Unless MY math is off, and it IS DC20 ?!? I'll check on those mynext availability. :)
Dungeon Monkey |
Eh, I'll give you something because it's an interesting concept
Justin:
Arnav Longarm |
initiative: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (12) + 2 = 14
"That is trouble." and the blade goes up to guard the group.
If it does come down within his reach, he should get an AoO, even before his initiative.
AoO: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (14) + 14 = 28
damage: 2d8 + 18 ⇒ (2, 2) + 18 = 22 16 points if it's incorporeal
Justin Case |
Thanks Monkey! (I KNEW this place was gonna be trouble!) ;P
"Arnav, When your right, Your right! I,... I think THAT is the actual essence that created the undead. Normally when you kill an undead it discorporates, and returns to the negative plane. But we're on the negative plane, I think that here, enough of the animating essence from destroyed undead can recombine into a new form."
Justin points 'upward'.
"I'm guessing it likes THAT one."
"Try not to let it touch you! Worse case, it's a physical manifestation of the Planar energies themselves. I don't think these stones will protect us for long from direct contact! Hamar, Blayze, do you think you can generate enough Positive energy to discorporate that thing?!"
Hamar of the Hyena Tribe |
Hamar looks at Justin puzzled, "Positive Energy? You mean create new life? That takes 9 months wizard I don't think we have that kind of time!"
Initiative 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (8) + 4 = 12
Justin Case |
Justin arches an eyebrow, Looks at Ekuur and nods his head towards Hamar.
"Sorry Ekuur. I think I just found my new straight man." Justin smirks, thinking that Arnav might give him a run for his money as the witty-quip guy. Then he looks deadly serious.
"Ekuur can channel positive energy from his Power. But I'm not sure he can channel enough to discorporate THAT."
Justin looks at Ekuur with a quizzical expression on his face.
"Can you?!?"
Hamar of the Hyena Tribe |
Hamar shakes his head looking at Arnav even more confused, "Mood for rutting? What is required besides another willing participant? You civilized people truly should not be thinking of such things at a time like this, and they call my people Barbarians!"
