Chronicles of the Silver Rose Company

Game Master Patrick Curtin

This campaign is my attempt to play a canonical Planescape campaign using the updated Pathfinder ruleset. The game actually predates the release of Pathfinder, but we have managed to update as we have needed.

Human Wiz 8

Ugh indeed! Having (spare) PC problems myself! Good luck buddy! :)

Alright, Justin is by the entrance to the tavern. DM allowing, Justin has cast Flaming Sphere spell and going bowling for wights. He started it up next to the bar before moving it, hopefully allowing the alcohol to contribute to the fire damage, and trying to create a makeshift 'wall of fire' to contain them as the building burns. With my bonuses the sphere lasts for 9 rounds.

Round 1; Dmg for fire sphere to the wight it ends up next to: 3d6 + 3 ⇒ (1, 1, 6) + 3 = 11

Male Human (Athasian) Cleric 9

Ekuur positions himself to try and catch as many of the rising undead as possible in another blast of holy fire.

4d6 ⇒ (4, 3, 2, 1) = 10

Ekuur grimaces as the flames seem weaker than they have been before. "My ability to bring forth the Sacred Flame is waning, my friends!" he warns.

Human Wiz 8

"Save your strength Ekuur. I'm sure we'll need it soon. This group is just fuel for the fire. They just don't know it yet!" Justin smirks.

Female Human Cavalier 8 (Order of the Dragon)

Rhiannon stows her lance in its place on her saddle drawing her sword as Thunderhead rears up, lashing out at an approaching wight with a metalshod hoof.
1d20 + 7 ⇒ (13) + 7 = 20
1d8 + 5 ⇒ (7) + 5 = 12

Female catfolk sorceror 9

Anywhere near the door is fine with Merle and Seph

Merle balancing Nari while she casts uses a Haste spell on the group.

Human Wiz 8

Whoo Hoo! Luv the Speed buffs! :)

Bribes always welcome

The group can see about a dozen shapes rising from the rubble. The shreiks outside attest to several others running rampant in the crooked alleyways of the Koska Quarter.

Still working on the map. I am hoping tomorrow morning!

Human Wiz 8

re-dot
(In, IN! Dang dot!) ;P

female Tiefling 8th level Duskblade

-dot-

Bribes always welcome

[occ]again apologies folks. My boss is on vacation, so I am the boss for a week. I am working on my photoshop program, and I will hopefully be able to move forward soon [/ooc]

Human Wiz 8

Heh. Being the boss is always the dream, until you ARE the boss! Then it's just not as glamorous as it looked! :P Good luck Pat! ;)

Human Wiz 8

Re-dot. HI! How is everyone? :D

female Tiefling 8th level Duskblade

The suspense builds, will Nari snap? Will Karrin and Isaac ever get together? Will the Red Shadow blame the Silver Rose for the deaths of her friends? Will Ekuur reveal Karrin's manipulations to the group? Will Justin find a spell too destructive for even his tastes? Will this latest near death encounter cause Merle to drop her long standing grudge against Karrin? Will Rhiannon get that six legged horse she's always secretly dreamed of? Find out the answer to some of these burning questions when the Chronicles Silver Rose returns.

Though probably not the horse thing. That will likely remain unresolved.

female elan Psion (Kineticist) 9

Wonderful summary, Karrin. :)

Bribes always welcome

Apologies again (I am doing that a lot). I really hope to beat my comp into submission soon. My life is slowly improving now that I am no longer the boss, but I am fried. Please accept my apology and I will get going on this soon

Human Wiz 8

Heh, heheh, oh man,...

First, Nice summary Karrin!
Next, when I FIRST read our beloved DM's post I thought he said he was FIRED. I had to re-read it twice to make sure he was only FRIED.
<Whew!>
:P

It's all good monkey-man. As long as your NOT 'fired'! :D

Excellant summary! :-) Keep in mind Ekuur's chaotic, not lawful. He's not overly bothered by deceit, unless it directly harms him ... but at the same time, he may reveal it just for the heck of it. One never knows!

1 person marked this as a favorite.
Male Half-elf (Planar) Ranger 5/Rogue 2/Plane Walker 1

The other question being: will Isaac notice that Karrin likes him?

Human Wiz 8

heh, depends, is he really as dense as Karrin pretends to be? I mean Isaac can track a falcon on a cloudy day, can he REALLY be so blind that he doesn't notice Karrin giving him ooglie-eyes? ;P

female Tiefling 8th level Duskblade

Well Karrin is quite naturally deceptive and admitting that she likes someone could be used against her somehow. Also she believes that there's a professional and private work ethic to her job. Karrin is slightly different around Isaac privately but she's not exactly throwing herself at him and she certainly doesn't make ooglie-eyes at him :P

Petty that she's kind of an old fashioned "let the guy make the first move" sort of ladies. Otherwise things could get very uncomfortable for poor Isaac.

Human Wiz 8

You mean, more uncomfortable than they already are?!? ;P
Poor Isaac is either well aware of the situation, or isn't gonna know what hit him! :)

Bribes always welcome

Awlright folks, this has gone on long enough. I am going to do a bit of handwaiving and hope that the plain talking works for us until I can get a new Photoshop program. Please bear with ..

The party squares off against the rising wights. Unleashing their combined fury, the new-risen undead are soon put back into eternal slumber. Outside, a group of city watchmen fight the risen undead as well.

Running outside, the members of the Silver Rose manage to help the elvish milita kill the rest of the wights. All that is left in the Koska Quarter is some singed stone walls and the smell of death.

The captain of the watch conferrs with Jena and Maelrin and the three turn to the party members.

"I think we should repair to the temple," Jena says, her eyes wide. Her summoned beasts peek from the large bag she habitually carries for them. "Feanoss," She indicates the watch captain "Feels that we are not safe in the city."

Female Medusa Medusa/Ninja 5/2

"Whoever did this to my brethren shall pay dearly. To the Temple then, to plan how best to deal with these abominations."

Stheno starts moving in the direction of the Temple, fire in her eyes and her snakes hissing as they pan their heads around the devestation.

female Tiefling 8th level Duskblade

"Any ideas yet?" Karrin asks, "I mean on who's behind this? I thought there were some pretty specific looking undead there."

Isaac looks around the blasted wreck of the inn and the carnage in the streets.

"Kennit, does he? I can tumble to how he wound up cap'n...", he mutters.

"Aye. On we go, cutters, back to the temple. Best we get the Dark o' how these berks knew we had our... cargo. Presumin' that twice-penned berk was the Barrowman ye lanned us on, it seems ye got worse 'n Koska in your city."

In Planar Common, he motions to the party:
"Karrin, Merle- keep Nari up. She starts sizin' up elves to pen in the Deadbook, ye remind her that's a mistake."

Male Human (Athasian) Cleric 9

"Before we go back to the temple, I recommend we gather the remains ... yes, all of them, and burn them. The Sacred Flame will honor those who fought against the risen dead and ensure they gain the eternal rest they deserve. And it will punish the souls of the foul frozen dead, to ensure they harm no one again." Ekuur begins trying to gather the bodies of the dead and undead and tries to direct anyone who helps. He'll ask someone to get oil or alchemist's fire, if possible.

female elan Psion (Kineticist) 9

From the outside, Nari was strictly speaking, sleepwalking. With neither personality in a position of control, her body was running on autopilot. As long as she was steered in the generally correct direction and kept from tripping over things, she wasn't much trouble.

From the inside however, she was in the middle of a bloody battlefield. She was bruised, bleeding, and barely standing, the only consolation being that Sanna was by and large in the same condition. At the rate things were going they were going to kill each other and no one was going to end up with the body. But still, she wasn't about to stop fighting.

Human Wiz 8

Justin nods grimly to Isaac, then moves to stand beside Ekuur.

"FIre we can do Ekuur." HE says, holding up a hand covered in flame.

"And I agree with you. Mostly. But if we wait too long there will be more to tangle with. And we need to put a stop to this madness, not just bless the poor souls already dead. There will be plenty of time for 'purification' later. Let's follow Isaac, and introduce whoevers behind this madness to our own idea of a 'blessing'." He grins mirthlessly, his hand still covered in flame.

"Come on. Afterwords, I'll set the fires for you myself." He adds, glancing at a particularly young victim of the carnage, his eyes hardening.

Works for me Monkey-man! Good luck getting your time & PC back! :)

female Tiefling 8th level Duskblade

"I could always try my sleeper hold," Karrin says to Isaac, "I mean if she goes crazy that is, you wouldn't want to use that sort of thing on someone just for fun or something. You'd have to be pretty cruel and callous to do that."

Karrin hoists Nari over one shoulder and rests her axe over the other.

"Think we can get pancakes after this is over?" Karrin asks no one in particular.

Female catfolk sorceror 9

"Lets wait and see." Merle responds as she follows Karrin

"Aye. A practical notion, but it's best we let our hosts tend to their deaders after their own custom rather'n enforcing our notion of cultural imperialism."

Female Medusa Medusa/Ninja 5/2

Stheno looks back towards Ekuur and Justin. "There is no spirit left within the bodies, they are now but an empty shell. The Guard will take care of the commoners for us and what is left of my brethren will take care of their own."
"Come, time is wasting and I wish to be on the trail of these monster's masters before too long has passed."

Ekuur frowns a little. "It had nothing to do with customs, or even religious doctrine. It was merely the most practical way to ensure none rose again. But as you wish."

Human Wiz 8

Justin chucks Ekuur on the shoulder, (almost managing to hide the wince as he connects with the muscular cleric's armored self.)

"C'mon Ekuur, there's always time for practical later. And I'm pretty sure they'll appreciate the offer of help. Right now,... I feel like spreading a little religious doctrine to some mislead souls,..." He says, still playing with the flames that are in the palm of one hand.

Awww, I'm a little bit disappointed that no one picked up on the apparent hypocrisy of that statement. I'm especially disappointed in Justin, seeing as he was the one that got to see Karrin's infamous sleeper hold up close and personal last time. (check page 183)

"You know if you guys want to discuss theology or religious doctrine I grew up in a monastery and I picked up a few things! Like I read all the books from A to G that the monks had on theory, and yes I do know that the expression is from A to Z but there were a lot of books and I was only there for twelve years. Also there were a few story books there as well, and some romance, and a book on travel, and so I read some of them first."

Human Wiz 8

Awww, Sorry Guy, I'm a little brain dead at the moment. (meaning a little more than usual!) I got it, just missed my chance to make it a moment! ;P (Darn, I hate it when I miss a chance to pick up a straight line!) :) I'll do better in the future, promise! :D

Justin eyes Karrin warily. Not that he disbelieves her. He just has a hard time imaging Karrin sitting still long enough to read a book.

"Um,... Romance?" He says before thinking.

female Tiefling 8th level Duskblade

No harm no foul :), it just would have made for a good laugh is all
"Yep!" Karrin says smiling, "Lots of heaving bosoms, and hungry lips and all that fun stuff! Who would have thought a bunch of monks would be into that sort of thing. Course they weren't all out in the open. Someone had gone to a lot of trouble hiding them but once I discovered them I had to read them all. Forbidden knowledge and all that. Some of them were really bad but just about anything is better then religious doctrine. Most of it just didn't make any sense, I mean not like history or geography, but you can ask me just about anything you want about any author who's name starts with either an A, B, C, D, E, F, or even G and I can probably even quote them!"

The city watch seem to be collecting the corpses after ensuring they won't easily rise up again. A tall elf in silver plate enamelled in niello patterns of golden hearts sprinkles water over them and prays, occasionally hammering small silver spikes into the corpses' hearts with a wicked-looking battle hammer.

Maelrin and Jena accompany the group to the Temple. The watch stays behind, but the group has no further problems reaching the hill.

At the gates, a worried-looking Lady Meralindiel awaits them.

"I have been told of the horrible occurances in the Koska Quarter," She says "Do any of you need healing or anything else?"

Female Human Cavalier 8 (Order of the Dragon)

Throughout the banter Rhiannon sat atop Thunderheas at a slow walk, her eyes scanning the carnage in a continuous vigil against any other attack or rise of the fallen.

She had seen many a battlefield before, and some from the Lastwar on her homeworld were exceptionally brutal, yet the senselessness of the attacks here brought a fire to her eyes, that burned to punish someone. She continued on in silence, taking comfort in the banter of her allies. It was one of the few consistent things that a career soldier came to consider normal.

"We're all in one piece, excepting our Kineticist who's having some personal problems unconnected to Deaders. Strangest thing- the wight with the armor, I'm reckoning the Barrowman, knew we had the Chrysagmir. How would that be?"

Human Wiz 8

Justin shakes his head. He's still trying to get the image of Karrin reading trashy romance INto his brain. The visual keeps turning into Karrin heaving her would-be suitor into the nearest rubbish pile,...

Although he would have to admit, Karrin would still look good while doing it,... He tries to hide another smirk.

'Poor Isaac. Poor, poor Isaac,...'

Still, he can't pass up an opportunity,

"So, I hard a tale of this one wizard,.. Fizban I think/ Fizban the Fabulous? Any stories on him in the abbey?"

He continues the banter, but observes all going on around them with a dark look. He clenches his hands into fists so hard his fingernails cut into his palms.

'Senseless, stupid, waste of life. The real monsters are the ones who caused this to happen.'

female Tiefling 8th level Duskblade

"Fizban?" Karrin asks, "That's a horrible name for a male lead in a romance novel. They usually had names like Geoff or Hugh or were knights and such, and they usually had big heaving chests and strong arms and hands and such. Though in my limited experience strong hands and arms aren't that easy to find. I knew a half-orc once and he was pretty strong, but he wasn't exactly the sort person you'd want to hold you in his arms, plus he had really bad breath. He did teach me a bunch of cool swear words though. You know orcs have words for body parts that I wasn't even aware existed. They have a lot of words for things bellow the waist and above the knee for example and a lot of unique verbs to describe how to use those parts.

"You'd never have an orcish romance novel though because romances use flowery language to describe everything. Orcish is far more practical and direct you see. Most of the romance novels didn't even use half of the human words that describe . . . um, consummating the relationship, and those are perfectly good words, perhaps not as precise or descriptive as orcish, but still perfectly good words. I suspect that there was a meta game amongst romance authors to see how filthy and debased they could make a novel using those flowery words. Course one advantage to not going into too much detail is that you really had to use your imagination. Lucky for me I have a great imagination and some of those books were down right obscene in my noggin!"

Karrin seems to have a thought similar to Justin in the brief silence that follows.

"Still the elves are even better at that flowery stuff then humans, and I like to think that if I hadn't read through all those romance novels I'd never have tricked Torreen into falling in love with me. He was an elf you see and I bet he grew up on that stuff! Such a beautiful language and such a wonderful culture, seems horrible what happened here. I just hope we can find out who's behind all this so I can axe them some questions."

Karrin gives Nari a bounce on her shoulder:

"How you holding up Nari?"

female elan Psion (Kineticist) 9

Yes, it's a beautiful and wonderful culture...if you happen to have missed out on the psychotic and evil portion, which to be fair is actually a fairly small subset. Unfortunately it's a subset that would make drow think you were perhaps taking things just a little bit too far...oh. Right. Still unconscious over here. Fight to the death over who gets the body between the fake personality and me...It's not going so good at the moment actually. But thank you for asking. ;)

Nari appears to be in a completely catatonic state.

female Tiefling 8th level Duskblade

To be fair Karrin's knowledge of the elven culture does come from a highly idolized and romanticized version supplied to her from her late lover Torreen. Course now that she's seeing an elven city for the first time it does seem pretty nice (save for the constant attacks that she's faced since she got here). But Karrin is concerned for her friend and she does know that she doesn't do so well amongst her own kind. Which is a bit like Karrin really, she doesn't quite trust other tieflings . . . some of them are right nasty lairs!

"Well you keep up the fight girl!" Karrin says to the catatonic elf on her shoulder, "We're all counting on you!"

Male Human (Athasian) Cleric 9

Ekuur just shakes his head at Karrin's disertation. As they arrive back at the temple, he can't help but reflexively reach back to touch his pack, ensuring Lauralie is still safe.

At Lady Meralindiel's concern, Ekuur adds to Isaac's response, "Yes, we are mostly unharmed. But if someone knows we have the Chrysagmir, it is just as likely they know Lauaralie is here also. I think the sooner she can be planted, the better. We must remain on guard."

Bribes always welcome

Lady Meralindiel nods assent to Ekuur as they walk inside the crystal temple/palace.

"I think that is the wisest course of action, Ser Ekuur. The astrological portents have been divined, and tomorrow we shall see our seedling friend planted."

She frowns

"I will caution that I fear the Morkathau and the Winter Queen will attempt to stop this from happening. Do not let your guard down."

Male Cat

Seph stays next to Nari Meowing sadly

Female catfolk sorceror 9

"I don't suppose you have any magic that would help us get in there and help Nari?" Merle asks Lady Meralindiel

Male Half-elf (Planar) Ranger 5/Rogue 2/Plane Walker 1

"Oi. Another day. As Merle said, we need to get our psionicist straightened out. Ye wouldn't have the Dark on whether any o' them Bloods are in the berg, eh?"

"Or failing that, a large sack we could stuff her in...", he grumbles.

Bribes always welcome

Urgh. Sorry again folks. But you can tell by the time stamp that my schedule is a little fncking insane-o right now. And I'm late for work as it stands. Will try to update later today..
