Chronicles of the Silver Rose Company

Game Master Patrick Curtin

This campaign is my attempt to play a canonical Planescape campaign using the updated Pathfinder ruleset. The game actually predates the release of Pathfinder, but we have managed to update as we have needed.

Can I see the ballista from where I am? If so, how well secured is it? I mean, I know I probably can't see that. If I can see the ballista I'm gonna try to pick it up and drop it back on the tower using telekinetic thrust. Presuming I can get within 160 ft, and that it weighs less than 250 lbs. Good chance it won't work, but it's worth a shot.:)

Hmm. Well, you can advance to 160 ft in a couple of rounds. You are at 360' now. The top of the tower isn't visible to you, so you can't tell what the ballista are like. You have seen enough of them before to know that they probably weigh more than you could throw. Usually they are fixed in place on a swivel for aiming.

Once sure the creature will live, Ekuur sends the butt end of his trikal crashing down on the creature's head, knocking it back out. Do enough non-lethal damage to keep it out cold for now.

The butt end of Ekuur's trikal sends the khaasta back into Morpheous' arms

Female Avian Harpy Avian Harpy 4 Bard (Arcane Duelist) 2

So sorry guys for my lack of posting. I have been back online for a week now but I'm only just now starting to catch up.

Bethany follows Justin's lead in heading towards the top of the tower, winging her way at top speed around the Ballista Bolts being flung her way. She lands on the roof, dead in the middle of the Khaasta manning the giant crossbow-like weapons. Smiling cruelly, she begins to sing a haunting melody about a man's obession with a beautiful woman.

Captivating Song (Su):

Bethany’s song has the power to infect the minds of those that hear it. When she sings, all non-Harpies within a 50ft. Spread must succeed on a DC 18 Will Save or become captivated. A creature that saves cannot be affected by her song again for another 24 hours.
A captivated creature moves directly towards her, taking the most direct route available. If the path leads them through a dangerous area, then they get an additional save to attempt to break free. Captivated creatures can take no other action other than to defend themselves from the attacks of others. Once the creature is within 5ft. of Bethany, it just stands there and offers no resistance to her attacks. The effect continues for as long as she continues to sing, plus 1 round thereafter. This is a sonic mind-affecting charm effect. A Bard's Countersong ability allows the captivated creature to attempt a new Will Save each round he can hear the Countersong.

Isaac is running closer to the tower, figuring that's the safest place from the ballista bolts.
How tall is the tower?

Aww fer fuks sake! LMAO

The ballista crews and the khaasta running water over to the fireball Justin threw all halt their frantic action and begin crowding about Bethany with wide eyes. One sole khaasta shakes his bretheren, hissing in his language, then realizing his predicament, he bolts for an open trapdoor.

Human Wiz 12 (Evocation)

Understood DM! I wasn't aiming at any particular thing, just trying to do some dmg and keep them from firing either a wand or ballista again! I may have to invest in some 'ride' skill in the future! This will be a good excuse for developing it! ;)

Muscles still twitching from his close call with the lightning bolt, Justin is surprised to see Bethany;s feathered form dart suddenly past him.

'Now WHY should that surprise me? I'm mucking about in her element after all!' Justin muses wryly as he clings to his griffon's small saddle, at the same time thanking the deities of magic and the maker of the figurine specifically for having the foresight to include a saddle with straps in the creation process!

Justin allows his bronze griffon to circle the tower, (which was the last command he gave it) and watches as Bethany enchants the tower's guardians. He grins as the formerly hostile Khashtaa surround the Bard.

"Not as impressive as a fireball, but a lot less messy! Looks like Bethany's got some new admirers. Draz had better watch out!" Justin laughs aloud to Goldenwing. He spots the lone Khashtaa fleeing towards the tower doorway.

"OHhhh no you don't!" Justin smirks, and sends a force bolt that leaves a fiery trail into the fleeing lizard's backside,...

On my next turn, IF it hasn't disappeared down the door yet, I'll use my Force Bolt ability to MM the fleeing one for 1d4+3 force dmg:

1d4 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7

No Problem. I'll put that as your rd 2 action ..

Justin lobs a bolt of arcane energy at the fleeing khaasta. A faint howl can be heard as the mailed lizard drops down the dark square opening and shuts the trapdoor.

Merle and Ekuur head off to the distant tower.

OK, Bethany has neutralized the ballista. You guys are facing a seige situation though. Actions??

Human Wiz 12 (Evocation)

Heh, I guess we'll do the old 'You Hit'em high, I'll hit'em low' strategy? Beth and Justin (and maybe Draz if he wants to walk up a wall) go in the top while the rest go in the door? OR we could ask for their surrender now. I'll bet if Bethany sings them an offer, at least some will be willing to listen! ;P

Female catfolk sorceror 11

Is it just the tower or are there other buildings in the area?

Is there a door/window? The kind any proper knight could open one way or another? I open that, someone else goes in first, then we kill our way to the top.

Female Avian Harpy Avian Harpy 4 Bard (Arcane Duelist) 2

Sooooo... now I have them, what the hell do I do with them? Maybe if I take off and have Justin drop a mega uber fireball of death into them? They stay captivated for one round after I stop singing, so if I double move then I could be away before he drops it?.

Well, assuming they're all on the roof(or on the floor below if Justin's spell does enough damage to blast through the roof) that would work. So, you do that then the rest of us kill our way to the now-scorched top?

Human Wiz 12 (Evocation)

OR,... have them do the work for us? IIRC they wont' 'attack a friend' for you, but they will happily defend you from their friends if you ask them too?

nah, it's not the same as a Charm. I didn't use a Bard Ability, I used a Harpy Ability.

It only lasts while I keep singing + 1 round and all it does is basically incapacitate them. I didn't really expect to get all of them. I was thinking maybe half and was a bit worried that the rest would simply try to attack me. I was trying to take the focus off you guys so you could get in closer without being pelted by ballista bolts.
Now I have them though I don't know what to do with them. Maybe take off and lead them over the edge of the building? They'll all get another save, but I should still take out half of them this way? Or should we go with the Justin/uber mega fireball of death idea?

Female catfolk sorceror 11

Depending on whether it would allow a new save or not we could try tying them all up?

Female Avian Harpy Avian Harpy 4 Bard (Arcane Duelist) 2
Merle Barer wrote:

2 problems with that:

1) there are at least 10 of them, if not more. Do we even have that much rope?
and
2) any of you guys who get within 50' of me will also have to save or be Captivated as well.

Human Wiz 12 (Evocation)

Ah, HArpy ability, cool! Oh wait,... that COULD be a problem! ;P

I'm good with either way, just FYI, I'm out of prepped fireballs, but I still have my Bonded item/one spell/day ability if we decide to go that route! :D Do we want to let Beth try to lead them off the tower, and I'll just fireball what's left? Otherwise she's going to be out of action as long as she keeps all the khastaa out of action! ;P

There are several other buildings. A three-story tall, block long building, A squat stables-looking thing with an animal pen attached and a windowless structure with teo large brass-bound wooden doors.

swire sizes up the tower. There are some mean arrow slits about 15' feet off the ground. A stout (closed) door six feet wide. The masonry is crumbly, would be fairly easy to scale with any decent experience in climbing ..

The enthralled khaasta will do non-dangerous things. Dangerous stuff will give them a new save.

Bethany's siren song wafts down from the tower top in snatches. Those catching a note or two feel the supernatural tug of the alluring melody.

"Let's check out the other buildings first" Merle suggests to Ekurr "make sure there are no Khassta hiding in them."

Male Half-elf (Planar) Ranger 5/Rogue 2/Plane Walker 1

Isaac's antennae drift back and forth subconsciously to Bethany's song.
"I'd reckon we could scale the tower, knock out the khaasta and throw their weapons over the side. We just need to block our ears so Beth don't catch us too."
Does a siren's song only affect the opposite gender or is it equal opportunity?

Justin and Goldenwing circle the tower, Justin trying to make sure that he doesn't get TOO close to Bethany. He glances down at the scurrying figures of his teammates.

"Can you hold them like this for a bit Bethany? The others are coming." He yells into the wind. He gets a firm grip on his amulet,

if Bethany is attacked, or loses control of the situation for any reason, he's ready to back her up/ cover her escape as teh need may be!

I guess that means that he's delaying/readying a spellcasting action this turn?

Female catfolk sorceror 11

Merle begins to slowly open the door to look inside.

Female Avian Harpy Avian Harpy 4 Bard (Arcane Duelist) 2

Bethany sees Justin's mouth moving, but he's too far away for her to make out his words over her singing. She instead starts to wave to him and mime the actions for him to drop a fireball into the Khaasta around her. She waits anxiously for him to signal that he understands, not wanting to hang around for too long as she realizes that once the others arrive, it won't be much good for them to not be able to come near her.

Merle sees a line of stable stalls with stout iron gate-like doors leading off into the distance. It is dark inside, but her keen sight can see large lizards moving restlessly and hissing in the stalls. Various bits of exotic tack are on the wall, and there is a smell of spoiled meat and dung in the air

OK, no worries. Holding for the mo ..

The wind whisks Justins words away. Goldenwing circles the tower, screeching as she scents the lizards in the wind. The beat of her bronze wings pulse with a staedy thrum through Justin's body.

Drazek raes up the side of the tower, to stop near Bethany, the magic of her voice seeming to have no effect on him.

Human Wiz 12 (Evocation)

Justin frowns in confusion, then his mouth opens in an 'O' of understanding as he realizes that Bethany is using her natural harpy abilities, and not a bard's song. He refocuses his concentration as he draws knowledge through his amulet, and the formulae, phrases and gestures of the fireball spell flood into his mind once more.

"I gotta learn how to make a wand, or better yet, a staff!" He mutters to Goldenwing as he waves at Bethany to get her attention, and then makes a clear 'Move away!' gesture.

Ekuur casts about, but doesn't see a lot. The stables is fairly dark, and there are many stalls where anyone could hide. He doesn't see anyone offhand. The hissing of the lizard mounts and their movemnet makes it hard to concentrate.
