Chronicles of the Silver Rose Company
Game Master
Patrick Curtin
This campaign is my attempt to play a canonical Planescape campaign using the updated Pathfinder ruleset. The game actually predates the release of Pathfinder, but we have managed to update as we have needed.
Will save: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (12) + 2 = 14 Hearing Merle's instruction, the ranger holds his position and fires at the Khaasta priest with his shortbow.
Composite Shortbow: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (6) + 8 = 14
Okay plan is for Merle to use all her 1st lvl slots to coat the route of the approaching Khaasta (The area directly in front of the group from E12 to E26 in a 10ft wide line of grease and hope that in the rush to get to us and the grassy ground they don't notice. If need be she will go Invisible so as to not give anything away.
"Okay once the first group hits the grease patches that will hopefully pile them up and then we open up with everything we have." Merle explains the plan to the others whilst pulling out a few scrolls for easy use
Ekuur stands still, watching the approaching khaasta. He waits until they are about 600' away, then raises his holy symbol. A small bit of the flame surrounding the obsidian orb breaks off, and sails towards the approaching lizards. When the ball reaches a group of them, it detonates, enveloping all of them in searing flame.
fireball at the largest group of khaasta once they get within range
OK, I am assuming you will be setting up shop at the gate site. Nari, as Merle said, about the only things in evidence is the burning table, five chairs, and five dead khaasta in plate.
I'm going to need a bit before we get this going, so make whatever preparations you need for the coming donnybrook
Phaumee chitters, dancing back and forth agitatedly
"Portal out of chit-kitt-yuhu other side of kirr-chitt-*nuk*. Need go through ... ARGH!"
He turns to Issac and chitters in Sylvan:
Sylvan:
Spoiler:
"Tell thy comrades that if we fail in carrying the day, that there is a stone archway at the far end of the knothole world. They needest no key, it is as a gate of Mother Tree, and will lead them back to the place from which we came. Perhaps some will make it."
"Thank thee, Phaumee. If thou wouldst prefer to slip away for the portal during the battle, neither my comrades nor I would hold thee in contempt. Our recklessness should not be your end."
Isaac's new antennae quiver a bit as he speaks.
"Oi, cutters: since we've apparently decided to do this the barmy way, yeh aught teh know the only way back teh Yggdrasil is a stone archway on the other side o' this knothole. No key needed. You know, so some o' yeh can give this place the laugh if we get penned in the deadbook. Or worse."
Isaac's antennae wave back and forth in greater agitation as he takes up a position with his bow a short distance from the edge of the grease trap, unbidden memories of a similar situation from years ago on the plane of Acheron surfacing in his
mind.
"By the way: if I get penned, reincarnate me."
"Concentrate on the leaders, Maybe try to bluff 'em before they get too intent on mayhem. We can just explain to them that we can level this knot hole just as easily as we did their guards. If they give us what we want, we won't have to do that."
As the groups of Khastaa form up, Justin gathers a strangely translucent blue flame in his hands.
"If,... when they attack, I'll grant everyone a speed boost. You'll move almost twice as fast as normal, so watch your step." He says, eyeing the closing lizard's warily.
Is anyone going to try to bluff them? It should be someone with more ranks in Bluff than me! (Swire?!?) Justin is HOLDING an action, (Cast Haste) so he can go first and not mess up anyone's initiative order. His plan after that is to summon creatures. Then ranged support.

"So, tell them to hand over the goods or we'll slit all their sodding throats? I can do that." Swire smiles unpleasantly and draws his rapier.
I'll just stand near the front of the group. Either they come close enough for me to intimidate them, or they get blown up by Ekuur and I'm close enough to stab them.
Isaac's probably best off using his bow until they close the gap, then juicing up his weapons with Lead Blades. With Mobility and Spring Attack, he's harder to hit staying on the move either with his frost greatsword or a polearm, maybe running interference for Karrin to draw off attacks of opportunity and setting up flanking.
OK, I have been cogitating this big brawl. Issac, gimmie arrow shots with range penalties, starting from your extreme range and moving in 50-foot increments from there. Anyone planning on using range weapons can do the same. There are about 30-40 khaasta coming at you, broken into three groups. As I can I am getting the map set up, I should be ready to rumble this evening.
Assuming the khaasta are not in melee range by the time Merle finishes putting the Grease down she will begin to use the two scrolls of fire ball she has.

Okay. I'm not fantastic with math, so I'm going to have to put this off until later. His range is 70 feet, outermost range being 700 feet. So, I know I have 14 rolls to make, I just need to get out my abacus and figure out how it's broken down.
OK, take a look at this map. Tell me where you want to be. Merle, I am assuming you could hose down a fairly large area with the grease spells. I have the brown blot as your efforts. There are three wedges of khaasta. As I said, those with arrows can pepper them at will until they arrive. Let me know what you think, and barring any difficulties we will try to run this pig ..

If you don't mind me asking where is the table? Also after greasing the area would Merle have enough time to use any other spells before they were in melee range?

Ah, I had removed it, as I figured Justin's fireball had turned it into a quick bonfire. It was about right in the middle of the grease blot. Merle can run a spell as they appraoch, no problemo.
I'm good, but don't forget that I fired off my fireball long before they got that close. 20' radius spread, and I can cast it at a maximum range of 640'. I'll target the central group, and I should be able to catch all of them.

Gotcha. I'll roll their reflexes and see how that shakes out. Y'all have to forgive me, I've not run an encounter this big. I'll get things moving once I get a few of the others actions
Nari's eyes glow brightly and she sweeps her hand across the air as a crackling wall of electricity forms around one of the approaching groups of khaasta.
Spending 5 pp to manifest energy wall. She's forming the wall into a 15 ft rad ring with the business end inward, and it looks like she should be able to get all of the group in the u-y squares inside that. It has a range of 160 ft so she'd try this while they were still a decent ways out. It's a DC 19 Ref for half damage. 2d6 ⇒ (4, 5) = 9 to those within 10 ft of the wall, 1d6 ⇒ 1 within 20 ft and 2d6 + 6 ⇒ (2, 4) + 6 = 12 for passing through the wall.
Figured since there's not much scenery to toss around it was time to play with the new toy. ;)

In that case Merle will use the 6th lvl scroll of fireball on the far away group Dc 13 reflex for half
6d6 ⇒ (4, 2, 3, 5, 1, 6) = 21
Drazek Darkholme(M Human Witchblade 6{Hexblade 1/Warlock 5(favored))
Bethany swoops through the air, to V17 foot bow ready and firees at tje first of the approaching group on the party's left.
1d20 + 9 ⇒ (1) + 9 = 10 1d8 ⇒ 6
Crap!
As his lover soots at the enemy Drazek explodes into action.Running forward to come into a skid at V 16 just under Bethany.
OK, looks like the heavy arty is going off. Issac, thanks for the bow shots. I'll get the arithmatic going tonight.
Issac peppers the advancing mailed lizards with a steady stream of arrows. Merle and Ekuur unleash firey balls of arcane fury as the khaasta approach. Several fall, but the rest howl and keep moving. Karrin's massive form grins lopsidedly and twirls her axe in anticipation. Phaumee chitters to Issac:
Sylvan:
Spoiler:
::Thy comrade's magiks are quite puissant, Issac. I wouldst think that so many foe would be an impossible fight to win. Now, I have hope my pelt might stay in one piece this day::
Justin will read his scroll of fireball (9th level) at the same group as Ekuur, and THEN his memorized fireball (10th lvl) at whichever group has the most left in it. :D
LOL, good to see you folks are taking care of bidness. I am going to try and get everything set up here over the weekend. Apologies for the delays, new job and quite frankly the extreme messiness of rolling 30 saves vs fireball are making me delay. I will work on this as I can, and I will hopefully get the next round ready by the end of the weekend

OK, roughing this up, cause I can see where this is going, LOL
Issac's arrows bounce off the armor of the advancing lizards. Ekuur detonates a firey blast, killing several of them as they approach. Merle does likewise, immolating almost an entire squad. Nari's eyes glow an ethereal purple color and the far souther squad screams in agony, several dropping on the spot. Justin raises his hand and two more fireballs shoot out. They detonate, finishing off two squads.
The few khaasta left break ranks and flee for their buildings.
Wow. Congrats people. You folks are loaded for bear! LOL. I think you killed like 80% of them before they could close. Post up your actions. The remaining khaasta are in full rout.
Instead of looking pleased or even relieved Merle actually looks mildly annoyed muttering something about wasted grease puddles before regaining her composure "Think now would be a good time to order there surrender?" She asks the others
"Reckon now's the time to chase 'em down 'fore they give us the laugh and set up their beauty thievin' racket in some other burg!"
Isaac runs after the khaasta. What's the reflex save on the grease? Isaac may be able to run through it and cut out the detour.
"Oi! Drop your weapons and no one else dies!", he shouts to the fleeing lizards.
If any are within 160', Ekuur will target one with a hold person spell.
"The Sacred Flame burns your limbs and chars your tendons. You cannot move!" he shouts, as once again the flame from his symbol leaps forward to envelope the closest lizard.
Heh. I always say there's no kill like an over-kill! ;) OR, as my little brother said WAY back when I first introduced him to roleplaying,... "There's no such thing as too much firepower!" :D
"I should be able to stop a few!" Justin shouts back to Isaac as he also takes off running. (AROUND the grease field!)
Justin dashes after the fleeing Khastaa, wary of an ambush, but trying to get a group in range of his spell.
IF I can get a group in range, I'll Glitterdust them. That should blind a few, making it easy(er) to catch them. Range is 160', 10' radius spread. Save vs blindness is DC:16 vs Will. They will glow regardless! ;P
Drazek Darkholme(M Human Witchblade 6{Hexblade 1/Warlock 5(favored))
Bethany sends another arrow streaking at the back of one of the fleeing lizards
1d20 + 9 ⇒ (12) + 9 = 21 1d8 ⇒ 2
While Drazek sends a hissing bolt of malice after any of them within 30 ft of his new position.
1d20 + 8 ⇒ (6) + 8 = 14Ranged touch 3d6 ⇒ (4, 5, 4) = 13
I was just thinking that if our adventures get made into a movie Michale Bay might actually be a good choice for director.
I know, right? You folks'll have to pardon me, I have been having a rough weekend so far, but I will start adjutating this scenario soonish. Hold Person a DC 16 Will save, right Ekuur?

Yeah, that should be correct - 10 + 2 (2nd level) + 4 (Wisdom)
