Chronicles of the Silver Rose Company
Game Master
Patrick Curtin
This campaign is my attempt to play a canonical Planescape campaign using the updated Pathfinder ruleset. The game actually predates the release of Pathfinder, but we have managed to update as we have needed.
Puzzled, he reaches around, trying to find the source of the itch.
Ekuur gets the feeling he is being watched
Although he knows he shouldn't take his eyes off of the situation at hand, Ekuur also surmizes that someone watching him (or the group) is not necessarily a good thing. He slowly looks around, trying to determine if he can find a source of his uneasiness.
"Thank you, sir, it's been very nice talking to you," Nari says pleasantly to Hulester before getting up and walking away from the table. She hasn't been watching the room very carefully, but natural paranoia led her to sit down at the bar near Isaac and Justin rather than walking right up to them. She glanced over at them and then at the door questioningly.
Close to the bar, Isaac holds one finger up to Nari before slipping past Justin toward the eavesdropper's table.
"Say, cutter.", he says,"I'm lookin' fer able hands for a work-shift. You wouldn't happen to know anythin' about welding, would yeh?"
Bluff: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (20) + 5 = 25
"Now that is somethin'! You just knew that off the top o' yer brainbox. Don't that beat all. How about that sod over there in the corner, what's his angle?"
He jerks a thumb toward Hulester's table.

"What bint? Looks to me like he's all by his lonesome."
The man glances again, noticing that Nari has moved.
"He was talking to that elf bint there earlier. What's it to yeh anyway?"
Issac senses that the guy isn't pleased with the line of questioning, and is agitated. He also looks a bit more brawny that your average drover under his thick wool tunic. He is strapped with a longsword as well, but considering the hijackings that go on in the Lower Ward that's not really strange..
The place seems quiet, but there is sign of recent habitation. A scrawl of insulting religious grafitti snarls in a colorful tangle down half-rubbled walls. A small drift of soiled clothes and a small burnt-out fire mark the kip of some barmy more than likely wandering the streets at the moment.
Bethany takes note of what building the others enter and stays put for the moment, content to watch the area.
She'll try to make it appear as if she's dozing on the ledge in case anyone spots her.

"Just curious, cutter. Out on a scan for talent, if yeh ken it; hard to tell a proper freelancer from a complete berk, right? Thanks for the chant, I'll quit rattlin' my bonebox an' let you get back to yer bub."
Diplomacy: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 5 = 8Or would another bluff check be necessary? Isaac walks over to the Godsmen namers and makes sure to spend a couple of minutes chatting before heading out of the Wayfarer to wait for Justin and Nari.
Just for my own sake, where is everyone around the church right now? If I've kept up, Bethany is perched on a ledge, Merle and Swire are scouting around back, Ekuur is a little ways off, trying to determine what (if anything) is watching him, and Karrin and Drazek are standing out front somewhere, right?

The man grunts and returns to his ale, casting a sideways squint at Issac

As I see it, Merle and Swire are scoping out an abandoned building (not the church) nearby. Bethany had found a ledge to hide on. Drazek is backpedaling from the guards, and looking to hook up with the others. Ekuur gets the feeling someone near the church is eyeing him (thus the itchy shoulderblade feeling)
"Looks clear" Merle says to no one in particular as she scans the ruin.
"Barmies should coming in once it gets dark. Of course, we'd given this place the laugh by then." Swire looks out the window with casual disinterest.

Mr. Swire:
Spoiler:
It is actually darkening as they speak, heading into the first hour of Before Antipeak 6pm. Swire's Hive-sharpened senses detect nothing but the occasional rat scrabble from the crumbling tenement. The trick is these things have a rat's warren of levels, often more beneath than above. Swire wouldn't go too far away from the front door unless he was real sure he had plenty of sods to back him up. Should be safe in the front areas for a bit ..
Nari waits for Isaac to finish talking to the others, then after he leaves waits another minute before leaving the tavern, looking around to see where Isaac has gone.
Justin hastily finishes his drink, managing not to frown too much at the watered taste, and stands up, he nods to the table nearest him, then ambles casually out the door, glancing to make sure that Nari is alright and on her way out,...
Drazek Darkholme(M Human Witchblade 6{Hexblade 1/Warlock 5(favored))
Drazek looks at Karrin, eyebrow raised, then glances over at Swire.
As the peaklight dims towards its final darkness, the rain that has spritzed the group all through their day increases to a sold downpour. The three walking out of the Wayfarer are hit with a sodden smack.
The group in the bandoned tenement start to hears the many drippings and pingings of a less-than-solid rooftop. runnels of brown water begin to appear on the grafitti-slathered walls. The main foyer they are standing in rapidly fiils with the scent of wet refuse. The streets outside start to empty a bit, though there are still crowds of barmies and Athar namers about. The guards on the church don't move a bit.
Nari hurries over to Isaac and once Justin has joined them as well, quickly brings the others up to speed.
"Hulester is a very nervous man. With a bit of a crush on the bartender. Anyways, He said that Defier factor Rillern Postaff is the one who convinced the Factol, er...Terrence, yes, Factol Terrence that there was something weird about the ruined church. He also claims that this Rillern woman has posted Hulester there in the Wayfarer as a spy on the other factions, to see who comes looking for information. So far there's been some 'Signers' some 'hardhead detectives' and a 'creepy air-kissed berk with twin pet wolves' all asking after it. He says that we should talk to a man by the name of Barmy Kank who used to live in the ruined church before all the trouble. Apparently this person will be able to tell us how to get in. And that's all he could tell me. I hope that it's enough," she added anxiously.
"Brilliant, Nari. That's the tout's tour, I declare. That berk I talked to was givin' you and Hulester the eye, didn't tumble to my questions. He could have Hulester's old task from the Athar, keepin' on eye on him after he turned stag. Or he could just be a disagreeable bubber, or from another faction entire. So long's we know you was seen, we can expect somethin'. What do yeh say, go find the rest o' the crew or ask around about Barmy Kank?"
Isaac pulls up his hood and huddles against the rain.
Knowledge (local)- Barmy Kank or any vagrant hang-outs near here: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (14) + 6 = 20
Ekuur gives up trying to see who may be watching him. Whoever it may be, he can't see them, and they can obviously spot him in a crowd. He'll rejoin the others, and ask, "Are we finished here? Unless we are willing to fight these guards - and I'm not necessarily against that - we may need to get back with the others and formulate a better plan. I definitely got the impression I was being watched, but could not make out who it was."
"Yeah probably best to head back and get the others" Merle mentions this whilst looking at the pouring rain clearly not looking forward to the walk back in it.

"Right. Better get going. This's no place to be by yourself in." With that, Swire stands up and heads back to meet with the others.

Ekkur doesn't feel as watched anymore. It seemed as long as he was near the church, someone other than the obvious guards had a bead on him.

Issac:
Spoiler:
Issac knows that the Shattered Temple District is more than half ruined and abandoned. Only Athar, hopeless bubbers, and barmies make their kip there. Most Cagers are superstitous of the district. After all, the Lady Herself smote the district when Fell the Dabus converted to Aoskar worship. The vagrants call kip in the many abandoned buildings. Many of these buildings have subterranian levels that lead to the Catacombs. The part they are walking through is a known haunt of several Derro gangs. Those creepy berks are no fun to tangle with. The name Barmy Kank doesn't ring any bells.
Bethany notices the others leaving the building and at a nod from Swire, leaps down from her perch, thankful for her new coat in this miserable weather. She wings down in the direction of the party and follows them back to meet with the others from above, giving a wink to Drazek as she gets swoops past them on her first aproach.
For the sake of timeline, I'm assuming you find each other on the street.
The church group walks back towards the Wayfarer. The tavern group sees them as they enter Anvil Square. Bethany swoops over and lands by the tavern group, startling several dwarves as she lands.
Bethany lands in front of Isaac and shakes her feathers, splashing yet more water on the passersby and earning herself some gruff looks for her trouble.
"That Church is one well guarded place, but nothing we can't handle. Our biggest threat I think is going to be the snipers mounted on the roofs of nearby buildings, but the guards in the street should be no problem." She turns and sees the others approaching. "Ah, here come the others now, I'll let Swire fill you in on his end, he did a little investigating on his own I think."
Hey Pat, I forgot to tell you that I took a slight liberty with the Fire Resistance Earrings that Bethany got from Toranna. I found a pic that I thought suited Toranna's tstes and used it, even though I know you said that they were studs. I hope you don't mind and if you don't like them I'll happily find another pic of some studs. There's a link in Bethany's Description (I added in her new Coat and the Earrings when I updated her to level 5) :)

Isaac nods, both in greeting and comprehension.
"Nari had a bit o' the wig wag with Hulester. Chant is he was set out to mind the Wayfarer by Rillern Postaff, the Athar factor, though he wears Sensate colors now. She convinced Factol Terrence the church was a threat. So far we got Signers, hardhead detectives and what sounded like an air genasi with two pet wolves lanning themselves to the Chant on our employer's property. There were also a drover givin' Hulester the eye; not sure what his angle is. Choicest bit Nari found out was a sod named Barmy Kank used to call kip in the temple 'fore all this business. We find him, we can get an idea of layout inside."
He shakes some water from his sodden hood, looking long and hard at the ruined neighborhood.
"... Though that's the rub, cutters. Shattered Temple district gives the spook to almost every cutter 'cept Defiers, barmies and really hopeless bubbers. The Lady herself destroyed this district times past when one o' her Dabus converted to Aoskar's worship. Derro gangs may have somethin' else to do with it. So we'll have to rattle our boneboxes in this creepy berg if we want the dark of it."
Justin pulls his hood up and hunches his shoulders as the weather hits, hard. The fire mage is obviously less than pleased to be dripping wet. Although his leather coat looks none the worse for wear, other than being soaked.
Justin suddenly straightens up with a shocked look. He spins on Issac and Nari, unheeding of the rain now slapping him in the face.
"Wait! Did you say 'Hardhead detectives'?!? Did Hulaster describe them? Was one of them a halfling woman?!?" He demands, eyes wide with anxiety.
"Like I said before, there's got to be a way in at the back, but the guards back there would see you long before you'd find the way in. We'll have to deal with them, one way or another."

Nari shook her head. "He didn't describe the detectives. I'm sorry. I didn't ask. I didn't know it was important."

Justin takes a deep breath, and gives Nari a sincere, if forced, smile.
"No. NO! You didn't do anything wrong. You did great in fact! It's just that,... D@mn! I've got a bad feeling about this!" He mutters as he tugs his hood back up into place.
"One of my few friends, the first I made when I arrived here actually, is a hardhead. I just got wind that she's disappeared checking into some uber-vamp nest that tore up her crew. It's probably nothing, But I don't like coincidences. I don't believe in them, actually." He growls peering around the soggy and darkening street as it had an answer for him, if only he could find it.

Isaac wrote:
"Aye, worth lookin' into. Just got off the hook with the Dead, no need to go pissing off the Defiers."
Justin looks at Isaac with a smirk that suspiciously resembles one of Drazek's 'let'em try' feral grins.
"Aw. Now where's the fun in that?!?" He asks jokingly, all wide-eyed and innocent.
Bethany lands in front of Isaac and shakes her feathers, splashing yet more water on the passersby and earning herself some gruff looks for her trouble.

"Snipers on the roofs. Ahh, that explains thigs, I think. Well at least I kept them focused on me, rather than you."

"While I have no problem 'dealing' with the guards, and in fact, it sounds rather enjoyable, I think I agree we should find this person first. Perhaps there is a way in from under the building that remains unguarded? Or even a portal in, perhaps."
"Je ne comprends pas," Karrin says, "I thought we were waiting till ze sun goes away so that Monsieur Swill could étudiez ze church under cover of dark."

"I was expecting them to start patrolling or head back to get torches or at least something other than stand there like a pair of sodding statues. Also, if you're going to keep with that accent at least say the names properly, eh?"
Bethany looks at Karrin as if she just grew tentacles from her forhead and started to eat brains. "What in the name of the Winged Lord is her problem," she asks with a confused look on her face.

"She's staying in character. It helps her when doing covert investigations to manufacture a false identity that she'll use until the covert part of the mission is finished. She's quite good at it," Nari piped in softly.

That's exactly what Karrin is doing . . . but we haven't rejoined yet, Karrin and company are still deep behind enemy lines.

Sorry, because of Dungeon Monkeys post, I thought we were talking already! ;P
