Chronicles of the Silver Rose Company
Game Master
Patrick Curtin
This campaign is my attempt to play a canonical Planescape campaign using the updated Pathfinder ruleset. The game actually predates the release of Pathfinder, but we have managed to update as we have needed.
"Oh but it's fine for you to do it?" Merle mutters mostly to herself as she watches Swire leave before looking for a suitable place to sit down that gives her a good view of the building without being obvious.
The problem Merle sees is that most of the nearby buildings are vacant, warehouses, or tenements. Not a whole lot of good places to blend in.
"Might be a way in at the back. I'll go take a look, so you all don't go wandering off." Swire gives a quick glare at Merle before he stalks off into the crowds.
Swire, in typical Hiver fashion, finds a small alleyway that leads off a few blocks down. Using his keen senses, he slinks to the back of the church. There is another two Athar guards in back, but he can see the wall is quite tumbledown on this side. A few minutes of checking it and he's certain he could find a way in.
"I understand if you'd rather keep this conversation strictly business."
The gentleman actually blushes
"Uh, I wasn't looking at no one."
He looks over at Nari
"What business do yeh need?"
"My group has been hired to investigate the disappearance of some workers in an abandoned temple in the lower ward. I was hoping you might be able to give me some information about the temple and about the factions who are fighting over it. Perhaps some insight into why they're fighting. As I said, I'll make it worth your while."

Hulester looks around shiftily, then points to his cloak brooch
"I don't know nuffin' 'bout no temple. I'm a Sensate and I'm just here for a bub."
"Time for a lil' distraction," he says over his shouler as he makes his way towards the guards, donning the wobbling stagger of a seasoned drunk like a cloak.
Drazek staggers over to the two guards. They look disgusted and yell at him as he wobbles closer.
"Oi! Find another place to call kip for the antipeak bubber! This here's faction turf!"
They don't look all that hostile, but they aren't backing off from their post.
Drazek Darkholme(M Human Witchblade 6{Hexblade 1/Warlock 5(favored))
As Drazek stumbles closer he shakes his head in confusion.
"Faction? What faction? Ya mean this ain't Alannah's Pleasure house? You fellas know the way to Alannah"s? I'f ya'll ain't too busy we could all go!" Drazek says with the enthusiasm of one 3 sheets to the wind and having just found his new best friend.

She nodded. "Of course you are," she said agreeably. "And I bet it would be easier to indulge in such things with a little extra jink. Maybe even buy a drink for that lovely girl you had your eye on. And I promise not to tell myself anything other than that you're a very helpful and friendly sensate I happened to meet in a bar. I can't tell anyone what I don't know."
"I'm only mostly sane you see. And I could backslide at any time," she added with an amused twinkle in her eyes. The glint of money can be seen briefly in her hand only to be put back away quickly.
I take it I didn't learn anything from my knowledge check?
Ekuur tries to hang back a distance. He's not one to remain unnoticed for long, so he tries to leave the scouting of the building to the sneaky folks. When Drazek begins his act, Ekuur tenses up, and readies himself to interced, if need be.
Swire heads back to the others. "There's a way in at the back, I'm sure of it. I just can't be sure where until I can get a closer look back there. I say we wait until it's dark enough to get closer without them seeing. Well, either that or I can call their mothers jink-skirts and one of you can take a look back there for me."
"Someone remind me why I was the one that needed extra training again?" Merle asks as she watches Drazek stumble up to the guards
"Je'ne sais pas?" Karrin says with a shrug, "was this training done with this mercenary outfit of yours? Regrettablement I, Sophia La Noir, have no knowledge of such things."

"There are, how do you say, many houses of abandonné near where we can wait," Karrin says with that strange accent, "we wait for our ivrogne, or I will go fetch him, and then we wait."

While Drazek engages the guards he studies them and the church for anything of significance.

Hulester looks about warily
"You give me that mithril coin I just spotted and I'll lann yeh a bit o' chant bint"

She smiled at him. "Now that sounds like we understand each other."
"Alwright, I'll lann yeh the square chant, no barkle. Yeh might have known I was a Defier until recently, when I was accused of being an Anarchist and they tossed me to the cobbles without so much as a by-your-leave. Like I would associate with those rabblekin!"
Hulester gets a bit flushed, then breathes out slowly
"Anyway, afore that happened one of the factors, a bint by the name of Rillern Postaff, convinced Factol Terrance that sonething weird was going on at this ruined church. She posted me here as a spy to check up on other factions sniffing about. This here's a neutral inn, sos lots of cutters wot don't usually come strolling down Ironmonger Street stop here. Fact is, I wouldn't be surprised if there's a new listener about."
Hulester looks about in a paranoid manner. He snaps back to Nari
"And there have been other factions sniffing about. Them barmy Signers have been here, as have been Hardhead detectives, and some creepy air-kissed berk with twin pet wolves. Don't quite trig to who he was working for, he didn't have any siguls on him."
A second coin is briefly visible under Nari's hand before she covers it again.
"Thank you, sir. You've been very helpful. If you should happen to think of anything else that might be useful to me, I would be glad to reward such tasking mental effort. If not, well that's just fine too. Have a lovely day," she added, standing up.
Oy! 30 sodding posts?!? Really? REALLY!?! Come on, I thought I was the one who needed to get out more! ;P
Justin jumps at the loud noise, spinning in his seat and pulling back his arm as if to throw something. There is a small ball of flame in his palm. (Neither Isaac nor any of the other patrons saw him make an arcane gesture, nor speak any arcane babble,...) With a frown, he snuffs the tiny ball of flame in his fist, then turns to get back comfortable on his seat.
"Sodding clueless,..." He grumbles around his pipe through clenched teeth in an almost exact copy of Isaac's usual calm growl. He disperses the remaining sparks and smoke from his palm with a rapid wave of his hand, then pulls out his pipe and inspects it carefully.
"Aw, Per. Fect! I cracked my pipe! And I don't have any mending chants studied." Justin kvetches. He sighs, takes a long pull from his mug, and frowns at his pipe. He belatedly remembers that he is supposed to be watching out for Nari, and taps the tobacco from his pipe as he scans the room once more,...
"There are, how do you say, many houses of abandonné near where we can wait," Karrin says with that strange accent, "we wait for our ivrogne, or I will go fetch him, and then we wait."
"Drop the accent, you're not peeling anyone. Still, good point. We'll be waiting for you over there." Swire points at one of the various vacant buildings near by.
Bethany watches what everyone's doing from above on her perch, seeing Swire vanish and smiling to herself at Drazek's charade. Once she sees Swire rejoin the group, she keeps her eye on him, waiting for a signal to rejoin the group and report her findings.

"Je ne comprends pas," Karrin says to the retreating Swire, "what accent?"
Karrin will wait for Drazek, unless he gets stabbed or something, then she will move sooner.
Ekuur is puzzled a bit by what he glimpsed, but turns his attention back to his friends. Not wanting to look conspicuous, he walks a little ways further, away from the rest of the group (maybe 30-40', enough so it doesn't look like he's with them). He'll then start rummaging in his belt pouches, and act like he's stopping to search for something that he can't quite find.
...He belatedly remembers that he is supposed to be watching out for Nari, and taps the tobacco from his pipe as he scans the room once more,...
Justin spots Nari giving Hulester the coin. She seems to be working the berk quite nicely. He does notice several cutters paying attention to the two talking. But that might just be new fish in the pond syndrome. Nari has a certain winsome wistfulness...

Justin takes a swig, and leans back, idly keeping the 'watchers' under watch.
Probably just eying the new girl, but he intended to make sure that the eyes were ALL that made contact with his friend. He felt a certain, protectiveness, for Nari that he couldn't really explain. (Especially since her abilities had more than proven she could protect herself!)
'Well, she does remind me a little of,...' Justin blinks rapidly, forcing away tears before they are formed. He takes another long swig and slams his mug back onto the table harder than intended.
Drazek Darkholme(M Human Witchblade 6{Hexblade 1/Warlock 5(favored))
Drazek backs up acting scared. "Ahh, ain't no need for that! I'm leavin' I'm leavin' I swear I'm jus' looking for a drink."
Shuffling off like a scared drink in the midst of wetting himself he heads down another street, waiting until out of line of sight to loop around to where the grop originally gathered.

"What's the chant, cutter? Looks like you swallowed worse than whatever they use to water the bub."
Isaac takes another look around the Wayfarer.

"Nuthin'." Justin replies in a hoarse whisper. He takes another, slower, drink, and lowers the mug to the table in a normal manner. "Sometimes, I just think too much. That's all." He adds in a barely audible whisper.
Justin coughs slightly, and gives Isaac his trademark smirk. "So, our little elf seems to be doing well. Perhaps we should let her do all of the talking from now on? Seems she has better luck than we do!" He grins toothily, then raises his mug once more as if to toast something that Isaac said. He bobs his head in the general direction of those showing the most interest in Nari.
"Think they're anything we need to be concerned about? Or just scavengers looking for an easy target?" He asks softly, still smiling. Then takes a drink.
Merle follows Swire wishing she had learned how to cast silence so she could use it on Karrin right now.
Drazek Darkholme(M Human Witchblade 6{Hexblade 1/Warlock 5(favored))
Drazek can't help but chuckle at Karren's antics. As he joins her to where the others hide out he says quietly, "Well, we know they're willin' to kill to keep anybody from goin' in there."
Merle follows Swire wishing she had learned how to cast silence so she could use it on Karrin right now.
Merle and Swire find an abandoned tenement half-collapsed a few buildings down. It looks as if some of the bubbers and barmies on the streets hereabouts are using it as a squat. No one seems to be inside just now, at least that you can see.
Issac notes a lot of new faces in the common room, but that's not really out of place in this tavern. It is a bit of a Clueless trap. One cutter, dressed in dark brown worker garb seems real interested in Hulester and Nari. He keeps glancing over.
