Wouldn't that be metagaming? :-)

How about an in-game recap of the past 8 years? :-)

Went to plane of salt. Killed goblins
Went to Mortuary, then the elemental plane of fire. Killed zombies, hobgoblins, and a githyanki
Went to Yggdrasil, then Prime. Killed undead leaf ghosts, big ass beetles, and hallucinagenic mind-warping monsters. Also killed goblin ninjas, ogre wights, and a scad of unique BBEGs bent on world domination.
Went to the Shattered Temple District, killed a lot of dream monsters
Went back to Yggdrasil.

Ah yes. I also forgot the Khaasta and the old tower that Bethany the Harpy accidentally destroyed with water after Justin accidentally set it on fire! Lol
LOL! Ah yes, good times! Riding the wave of water out the window and being caught by my bronze Griffon was my high point of that one! :)
As Issac once put it, 'We destroy more property before morning than most people do all day. And most of it is by accident!" (Paraphrased) ;P
Ragadolf |
Yep. All of them designed to make lunch meat out of poor, helpless, defenseless PC's. ;)
Every once n a while, I miss the good OLD days, when a cleric could Turn Undead and just reduce so many #HD of undead into tomb dust. ;P
One of my pet peeves (read= scared to death of happening to my character) has always been level drains. I don't know why. I can count the number of my PC encounters with level-drains on one hand. ;P
Karrin Kind |
It's because level drains are terrible.
Hey you know all that work you put into playing your character? Gone.
We've been gaming now for 8 years and one attack negates all the work we've done. Karrin started at level 5 and now she's level 5 again. That's why level drains suck.
Hamar of the Hyena Tribe |
I thought it was Temp and you make saves after the fact to shake them off or was that a 3.5 rule?
Patrick Curtin |
There is a saving throw per level lost at the 24 hour mark. If a save is made the level returns. If it is failed the loss is permanent. So Karrin could lose 0-4 levels depending on how the STs break. Or she could get a Restoration spell before the 24 hours is up which will negate the level drain.

Restoration will remove all of the temporary negative levels, or one permanent per week. Main issue is the component (100gp or 1000gp of diamond dust), which I don't know if any of us have ...
Ekuur could conceivably rest for 8 hours to replenish and get restoration before the 24 hours, but we still need the dust. And find a safe place to do so ...

Yes. This. :(

For the record I wasn't assuming that the level drains were permanent, just expressing why everyone hates the undead.
I played a LOT of 2ed so I had characters who were victims of the permanent drain with no saves. As a young cruel DM though I had fun torturing the players with undead, especially Swordwraiths, fighters hated swordwraiths...

FYI, I am traveling for work from Tuesday through Thursday, my posting over those few days may be spotty as a result.
Ragadolf |
OK, Safe journeys! ;)
I am in the middle of another week-long rental (Production of Mary Poppins the musical) It should be fun, but as I have all of the usual nonsense PLUS a flying system, I'll be busy too. THEN launching into the usual end-of-school/summer dance show Hot Mess.
Hope to check in once a day, but I probably won't be writing any novel-length posts for a while.
Why do I suddenly hear cheering?!?,... ;P
Patrick Curtin |
Safe travels Dennis! No fears on the pisting, PbP is glacial.
I love your long posts Rags:). Just an FYI. I'm changing jobs again around Memorial Day. I've also switched stores at my soon-to-be ex-job, and it's very busy there. I'm hoping the new job will afford me some opportunities to update, but we will see. I know they have free wifi :)
Anyway, what I'm trying to say is that I plan to keep up with things, but the best laid plans of mice and men..yadda yadda
Hamar of the Hyena Tribe |
Much easier to post from a laptop especially as a DM, I never update the game I ST from my phone.
Patrick Curtin |
Actually I've gotten so good I can do BBC formatting and combat on my IPhone6. I just can't update map moves. Heck I'm on my phone now. If it wasn't for it, id likely have given up PbPs by now. I can take a moment here and there to update. I've learned to carry a few gaming supplies in a bag (APs, notes, etc) and the Internet answers all my gaming questions :)
Patrick Curtin |
Hey all. I'm going to be proactive and just let you all know that the next month or so might see some long gaps in updating. Now, I might get some done, but there is an awful lot of stuff going on in my life at the moment. Please bear with , I will keep you all in the loop as I can. Thank you for your patience.
Storyteller Shadow |
No worries Patrick, you should see the gaps between posts in my Vamp game when I am too busy to keep up. An excellent game can survive some RL issues :-)
Hope the issues are things getting better!
Ragadolf |
Ditto on the getting better wishes!
I think we're past the point of worrying about whether or not we'll wait.
;P
Take care sir, hope to see you sooner rather than later.
As a side note, I managed to get cast in a local community theaters production of The Addams Family Musical. As Gomez. :/
I actually have something productive to do now between posting PbP's and playing video games. (Like I get to play games!) I have a LOT of memorizing to do! Only 2 months to go,.... ;)

OK, Just having fun with Justin, but it sounded good while I was typing it. ;P
Now how to do something even remotely similar to what Justin just described in game?
I have a thought, tell me if this works.
We scribe an actual circle around the existing circle, (The game books all refer to these, but never actually explain how to do so in game terms) I presume that Merle and Justin would have to succeed at a moderate DC Spellcraft check to get it right. ;P
We empower the circle with spells like Prot vs Evil, etc.
Presume ANOTHER spellcraft roll to properly attune Justin's Amulet as a key, allowing whoever is wearing it to pass through the circle without 'breaking' it.
This is 'Reasonable' justification, if you consider that previous versions of Prot/Evil actually had a 'non-mobile, physical circle' version (Which I realized I was thinking about when I came up with this. Current version is only the cast-on-person version)
EDIT- OK, researching, NOW the written version is called 'Magic Circle against Evil' and is a 3rd level spell. So, 'legally' we would use THAT spell, and it's description pretty much says what I was describing. (With a little artistic license, and Without a 'key' option) :)
OK, honestly, I DO have a (mostly complete) updated sheet of Justin at home, but I'm pretty sure that his shopping list did not include THAT spell. BUT, Ekuur can pray for it! So, this plan might actually work, (I mean as in by-the-rules!) :)
OK, go ahead, dog-pile on the wizard for being crazy. He has it coming,... ;P
Man, I spend WAY too much time thinking about stuff like this. I'm going to go do another read-through of my Addams script before the dance show now,... :)

I am buried under a significant amount of work for Friday and on Friday night I will be running my table top Forgotten Realms game. Saturday I have a number of errands to run. Please DMPC me as needed until this Saturday evening. Thank you.

I don't think anyone has appraisal skills (unless Hamar does), but ill give you a freebie: the gem is 1,000 GP. Sadly, powdering it will give you 1,000 GP in diamond dust. However, this is something good to have in reserve, since level draining will become more of a standard attack in your CR level.
Hamar of the Hyena Tribe |
Hamer is not a gemologist to be sure.
Ragadolf |
Lol, yeah, no appraise skill for Justin either. :)
I considered it at generation, but decided the wizard had better things to do than stare at rocks and jewelry. ;P
That said, (and thanks for the freebie Pat!) :)
I'm guessing that appraising a gem would be a 'not bad consequence' things, so would allow a Take 10 or 20? So a take 20 plus maybe a aid another or two would (eventually) get us in the ballpark of figuring out it's worth.
Eventually. ;P
I mean, I wouldn't want to try it in the middle of combat or anything,... :)

Does THIS part make anyone else nervous?,... :)
I have rarely gotten to play anything past mid-levels. I forget were playing with the BIG CR's now! ;P

No, I have run Epic campaigns a few times, I chewed players up and spit them out...
But I am sure WE will be fine :-)
Storyteller Shadow |
The closest I ever came to a high level TPK was in a Forgotten Realms campaign where the players ended up trapped in Ravenloft.
Four fifths of the group were fighting a Phaerimm in Azalin's Castle. The Wizard players fireball slew everyone in the room, including the rest of the party, except for him.
Fun times....
