Ayla Noya Aiba:

Ayla replies to Anody
"It depends on who you run into in Torch.
Some of us are friendlier than others to outsiders.
First impressions and such."

Ahah. Hope I've made a good one then. the bearded gnome chuckles.

Ayla Noya Aiba:

Ayla replies to Anody
"You would need a very good impression, if you met up with the town grouch."

Quick rendering of Ayla in her peasant clothes
I can make renders of most of the characters submitted except; Criek Prisil and Agon Kilmeade
since I can't make Ratfolk and Kobold renders (I can try, but don't expect great results).

Jean walks into the pub, the release of pressure from the door causing her cloak to swirl outward. Taking in the view of the room, she looks for signs of danger. With a shrug, she approaches the bar and says to the bartender "Some milk please."

In a drunken slur, Its not so much that we here are unwelcoming of strangers just wary that they may spies for the techno... thennic ... The League, Professor. Most of us warm up to people once some trust is formed. hehehe. No more mead for me tonight. @Azure_Zero that is really cool rendering.

Standing back from the conversation between the two residents of Torch, the tattooed lady replies to the gnome, "Sorry...my manners, I get so used to my own company on my travels, sometimes I forget myself". Smiling wryly to herself, "My name is Sharae, a traveller, watcher of the stars, explorer and, where people's hearts are open, a teller of Desna's stories"

Looking over towards the bar, "I believe I will order myself a drink, would you share a drink and a story with me? I would hear of your journey here if it pleases you?"

Hi, so after a lot of thinking, I realised I couldn't do an Eldritch Scion justice, mostly because I just couldn't find a solid backstory that helped me engage with the character. I really wanted something that would challenge me (or rather, the character), since it leads to a much more fun character to play. I did however, succeed in finding a character that would both be charisma focused and a developed backstory, and here she is: Thera Flidais, Human Bard.

Backstory:

For as long as she could remember, the Flidais family had looked after their own piece of the "wild" in Numeria, and as a young child, Thera had always expected for the land to pass onto her, however when her parents died in tragic circumstances when Thera was in her mid to late teens, she found herself owning the property much sooner than she expected. Largely inexperienced and unprepared for the responsibilities thrust upon her, she was quickly marked as a soft touch, and interested parties began to watch the land with interest. Of these interested parties, the Technic League was very aggressive, claiming the land contained important artifacts and thus belonged to them. Privately, Thera believed that the true reason the League were so antagonistic were because her parents had been outspoken worshipers of Erastil, of which more...extreme members had been particularly active in the region against League Agents.

Thera desperately tried to hold onto the land, but eventually was unable to find a satisfactory response to the "delegation" of a League agent backed up by four gearsman. An obscure reference was made to the possibility of the loss of her liberty if she stayed, and Thera took the hint, fleeing her home with next to nothing besides a burning hatred of the league and all it stood for.

Firmly believing in the philosophy that forewarned is forearmed, Thera began to research technology, painting herself as a supporter of the league and all it stood for, all the while determined to learn where it was strong, where it was weak, and so on. It became almost an obsession, to such an extent that she quickly reached the point where her knowledge of technology soon outstripped her knowledge of nature. Eventually, Thera realised that she could not take down the League on her own, and set out to prove to the public the sadistic nature of the organisation in the hope she could find other like minded people. She heard about the town of Torch and its crisis and suspected Technic League involvement, and thus decided to visit the town for herself. If the League had interests there, she would foil them, and if it was responsible for the shutting down of the Torch, then she would prove that to the townspeople in order to sow dissent against the organisation.

About Thera:

O.k, so I really wanted to play up on the issue of technology vs traditionalism, supported by "nature". Thera is a classic example of someone that actually dislikes technology, and has actually taken the extraordinary step of educated herself on technology itself, not only to make an informed opinion on the subject, but also for reasons of shutting down the League. I'm currently loving the conflict I have here, especially with the possibility of using "nature" against futuristic technology, and seeing the interactions there. I plan for Thera to largely act as a strong party face (something she would be happy doing in any case), while still being a fairly knowledgable character to fallback on. I don't plan on her picking up any technology based feats such as Craft X or Technologist (I'll leave that to everyone else), and primarily want her to see both sides of the "progress" debate.

I'll make an alias for this character if I get selected (unless someone can tell me how to delete other alias to remove clutter) but will happily roleplay sometime soon as its currently fairly late as I type this out. Let me know if there is anything I should change / bear in mind / something to think about as I do welcome advice.

Who of good humour could refuse drink OR stories Anody grins And traveling here was a tale and a half as Absalom is very far away. In truth I'm taking a sabbatical from my position at the Arcanamirum where I am a humble lecturer, but they gave me a going away party like they never expected to see me again! Fair enough, fair enough. My original plan was to go to Druma and find a trade boat that would get me to Ustalav as I would have dearly liked to meet some friends I have in the University of Lepidstadt in Vieland, but Ustalav is not exactly safe... and traveling across Numeria to get to Torch from the other side would not have been wise. Hah. In the end I followed the trade routes through Taldor then cut across Galt and the River Kingdoms and here I am. It's a miracle I made it. I suppose I have Desna to thank Anody beams at Sharae.

The build for this alias has been completed. I still have yet to go through it with a fine-toothed comb, but the core of the build is complete.

I am still working on his background. I am not sure exactly how much detail I will give on his journey to/experiences in Torch. I know that the flame has gone out so time certainly has passed since R-66Y emerged from the ruins and made his way to Torch after spotting the column of light and the present day.

A warm smile breaks across Sharae’s face as she enjoys the Professor’s account of his journey, ”That truly is a route to enjoy…often we find that the journey is more of a reward than the destination…”, catching herself, ”Although of course I hope that you are successful in whatever endeavours have brought you here to these unique lands”

Sipping at a fresh juice, Sharae asks what the Professor would like to quench his thirst and then, ”The River Kingdoms remain ever untamed, a land smiled upon by Desna…indeed she may have smiled upon you as a travelling soul…and guided your journey. I have called the Sellen my home for the past fifteen years and often ventured into the River Kingdoms…”. Her mind clearly drifting to happy memories, ”The beauty of the stars above the tree canopy…a trail or a river to follow…Oh!!! I must give you the details of a wonderful cartographer in Thornkeep…if you are to return through the River Kingdoms, it would be better to travel some of the more beautiful waterways”

”If you don’t mind me asking, what inspired you to set out on such a long journey?”

Ayla Noya Aiba:

Ayla adds
"Urfric, if your that loud about it, they won't need spies.
They'll be able hear it from Silver Mount."

Thanks, Urfric

The journey was invigorating I must admit. It was good to put faces and places to all the things I've only really ever read about. Anody leans forward. I am excited about getting here finally though. This place is fascinating unlike any other place in Avistan I'd wager. The geography, the features, the materials, the people, the strange technology! It's all truly wonderous.

Anody settles back with a small frown I've heard some... tales... from the Numerian community living in Abslaom about the troubles here. Are things truly that bad? And to arrive just as disaster strikes! so sad the hardships I see on people's expressions.

The slight figure at the bar jumps at Jean's voice next to him, sloshing his mug of ale onto his clawed fingers.

Stammering slightly at the sight of the attractive young woman beside him, Criek offers, "Er, excuse me, miss? So sorry, but, I believe you're st-standing on my cloak," pointing towards the floor.

Vudruk sits in the corner, his slab-like face and body matching the rough slab-like armor he wears. His prominent orcish features draw the unfriendly gazes of the locals. He glares back at them while fingering a small shining metal bauble.

With the fire out, I will never escape the tribe. I'll bet one of these strangers had something to do with it. Never can trust strangers, at least that's what the tribe says. Hmm looks like they gave me a rat in my stew. Maybe this place isn't so bad after all.

Dotting, I may have the free time to submit something today.

I've got an idea for a Gun Scavenger Gunslinger. I imagine Numeria would hold many opportunities to collect various mishmashed parts and components of discarded technology.

I'm thinking he'll be a Kellid, hailing from a very barbaric and warlike tribe, He inherited his "Boomstick" from his father who likely claimed it from some misguided imperialistic outsider. After acquiring the aged and modified firearm, the young gunslinger would've began to collect the various parts as a type of trophy-taking.

Idk, I'm sure i can run with it from there. haha

*(Submitted character for another Iron Gods Game)

I'll be out camping for the long weekend,
I'll be back either Sunday or Monday.

"This is a fascinating land indeed...only last week, I shared a shoreline breakfast with one of Numeria's fabled androids", leaning close to the Professor and whispering conspiratorially, "I'm not sure he truly ate anything though...but what a beautiful creature!".

"The stars seem louder in the sky here...almost as if there is a stronger connection with the heavens and the land...fascinating!!!"

Unprompted, she volunteers her reasoning for travelling to Torch, "Truth be told, I have merely followed the winds here...one foot placed in front of another...and this is where Desna wants me to be...for what service, I don't yet know...but this change...it is no coincidence we are here now, no coincidence at all..."

The door opens slightly and a young women walks in, with a dark purple cloak strides in. As she passes the threshold, she looks around, her dark eyes lightly appraising the individuals present, before making a beeline for the bar, quietly asking for a stiff drink.

Right behind Thera, an elf strides in and closes the door behid him.
The elf is a head taller with longish red hair. in his left hand he holds his helmet - of obvious elven design.

He strides in behind her, his eyes minding the bartender's hands. He walks on the balls of his feet like a panther. Then, he seats himself pompously next to Criek.

"Be careful my friend. You do not wish to tear your cloak before we board."

"hmm,so many different people. I wander if they can see my goods? The red haired one is a springy one indeed; must stay clear."

A... Man...? Walks into the bar, a patchwork blue cloak pulled up over his head, concealing most of his features other than the shining brown hair spilling over his shoulders. The veins beneath his skin seem to glow a soft blue, but before you can adjust your eyes to verify what you thought you saw, the glow fades, the skin appearing as normal. He walks with a predetermined purpose over to the red-headed man and the skittish ratfolk at the bar.

"I am present as requested. What is it we are here to accomplish, my," he hesitates a moment before continuing, as if processing something internally, "friends?"

Criek! My little friend come over and join me. They tell me I am drunk so this must be my last cup. So tell me have you blow up anything interesting today?

R-66Y wrote:

The back of his right hand passes over his mouth in a brief moment of meditation. "The last group did not return from the cave. Sadly, no one believes they survived." he clicks his tongue and sighs sadly.

"Our mission requested your presence, Arsity Sixwhy. You seem-wrought of steely presence. Unfortunately, the other young ones around town are no longer willing to pass within the caverns after Khonnir Baine. It seems as though it has proven a rather sorry trial indeed for the many who entered the hillside."

"Val deserves answers, and Criek didn't come all this way only to lose a master. We will be your ... friends. Together, you and I, and Criek, will enter the mouth of the Torch itself."

"Mayhaps we can find some few others are willing for this macabre task."
He turns to examine the room's inhabitants.

"Pardon me for overhearing", Thera remarks, turning to Valia with a look of curiosity and brushing her brown hair from out of her eyes, "but when you mention the caverns, you wouldn't be referring to the caverns under Torch right?"

"It would seem that the winds are blowing in a rare mix of folk this evening...", looking around the room, "Ratfolk, Celestial, Half-Orc...even Kobold...I wager this isn't any normal night in Torch...the stars are changing, singing a new song..."

With her drink empty, Sharae stands, "If you will excuse me?" and returns to the bar to order another fresh juice. Attempting to gauge whether the red-haired elf is friendly, she listens in to the conversation...

Talk of caves beneath mountains and people going missing within those caves intrigues her...

Many will travel before this venture is done...may Desna smile on all of us

"Why, Valia! What a pleasant surprise," Criek exclaims, looking up from licking spilled foam off his paws. "I hadn't realized you were in town -- but from the sound of it, perhaps long enough to know what's happening? I only returned earlier today to hear that Khonnir was missing.

"You can imagine my distress; I was hoping a drink might calm the nerves enough to figure out what to do."

Caves underneath Torch? Anody overhears. So there is a complex that the Torch device is just the top of! My hypothesis is correct. Oh what secrets must lie hidden in there!

A tall Kellid woman, wearing patchwork hide armour cut to expose her powerful biceps, enters the tavern. She walks to the bar, sitting on a stool near the growing ensemble that includes a small lizard-man.

I've not seen one of those in this land before, Umina thought. It must be a foreigner. But why is it here?

Excuse me, small one, she says rather softly while touching the creature's shoulder to get it's attention, but what land do you hail from?

Following behind the Kellid woman from a distance, another woman enters the tavern. However, though this woman is dressed in similar garb and bears facial tattooing, she appears smaller and leaner than a Kellid, with fiery red hair and slightly pointed ears. In addition to her pack, weapons, and armor, she carries a small stringed instrument. She gazes around the tavern for a moment, taking in the scene as well as studying the numerous strangers.

Kellid. Ratperson. Smallfey. Many men and also many women - almost all fine of form and face. Orcblood. Smallscale. Elf.

She then makes her way to the bar and orders her drink. "Troubling times. There are many new faces since I was last here - but I wonder which among us have the strength to put things right?" she muses out loud, almost as if speaking to herself.

This is Lady Ladile checking in with my submission! Edana Asta, half-elven skald. Finally got everything written up :)

Sharae smiles at the redhead entering the bar...the cleric's interest is instantly piqued by the woman's facial tattoos...

We all have stories to tell...some of us tell our stories on our skin...inscribe our history, our deeds and our dreams

Turning her holy symbol over in her hand, comforted by the soft familiar curves of the butterfly's wings, she approaches the newcomer, "You are a musician?""

Wide golden eyes turn towards Thera
"The very same."

Hearing a female voice address her, Edana turns to gaze at the white-cloaked woman who spoke, looking rather surprised at the question posed.

Stranger, not of these lands. Not a warrior, either. Warriors notice weapons and armor first of all.

Edana gives a bit of a shake of her head. "It winds much deeper than that. I am a keeper of history for my people, who pass each tale down from father to son and mother to daughter. Through my voice and my song, the deeds of my forefathers are told - and in doing so, I give them life anew. For as long as one's story is told, they will never truly die." Though her words and manner are somewhat blunt, there is no animosity in her tone.

Thera looks at Valia with renewed interest "Looks like you are not the only one interested in these caverns then, I'm Thera, just a humble researcher looking to understand a little more about the heritage of the site"

Bluff: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (16) + 9 = 25

Thera extends a hand in greeting after introducing herself, while the other absentmindedly drums its fingers on the table in thought.

"If its all the same to you, it would really benefit my research if I could tag along with the rest of your group, just to poke around, investigate a few rumors...that sort of thing"

A fellow researcher? Anody's grin threatens to take off the top of his head as he turns to the dark eyed lady with the severe expression. Tell me, what institute do you hail from. Perhaps I've read something of yours, You must tell me how your experience has been with learning Androffan. It took me a while to get my head around it. It's so... Mechanical.

Little note. Recruitment closes soon

Thera turns to the gnome with a fleeting look of irritation, not at all happy at being called out in the middle of her conversation, but just as quickly the look vanishes, as Thera regains control over her emotions. "I'm freelance, so unless you have heard of the name Thera Flidais before, then I doubt you have read anything I have written. Furthermore, I suspect my field differs somewhat to your own, as I prefer to look at the construction of technology, the science of the process, and have little actual practise with the language."

No bluff check required, because everything she said was technically true ^_^

Its a shame recruitment is ending soon, I quite like roleplaying with this character :(

Nothing says we can't keep on roleplaying up until chillblame posts his decision; even though recruitment is supposed to close on Sunday, I believe he said that it would likely be Monday or Tuesday before he has everything finalized! :)

Though the tavern is unusually crowded and noisy, Edana can't help but overhear some of the conversations occurring nearby. "Most of these strangers seem more interested in the ruins than the town and loss of livelihood of the peoples on top of them. Typical," she mutters.

Are those...my people's tattoos? On an elf-blooded? She must have a story to tell.

Umina sidles away from the unresponsive lizard-being, and takes a seat next to the red-headed half-elf.

Excuse me, she says, but are you here about the problems with the flame?

Stories told from Mother to Daughter...I wonder if my Mother still lives? and what tales she could tell me of my ancestors

Responding to Edana's observation, "Try not to be too harsh on them, there are townsfolk lost in those ruins and, from what I have heard, the first priority is a rescue attempt"

"But you make an interesting point, without the flame this town will fade away...if there was a way of returning the flame, all would be saved....otherwise, our duty must lie in helping those who have lost their livelihood"

"Would you play for us sometime this evening? Music may lighten the mood"

With her milk almost finished, Jean looks around the pub and sees a growing number of people.

Seems like a lot of people heading to Torch today... It's usually only a few drifters and engineers, but this is crazy. I wonder what's happening up there?

After a few moments she overhears a pair of tatooed ladied speaking "Hey, uhhh... did you say something about problems with the flame? Why? What's happening up there?"

OK, closing in eight hours. I should have a decision within 48 hours. Thanks to everyone who applied, I wish I could field all of you.

Suddenly looking forlorn, Yes its gone out, the great flame is gone and unless something is done about it I imagine so will the town be gone soon Soralyon, give me strength, how could this have happened?

I am not familiar with these other humanoids, I must take the time to examine them closer when the opportunity presents itself.

Ignoring the others present, R-66Y continues to address his "friends", "I must also examine this automaton that has been recovered. This is of great importance to me." To kill my own kind? I must first see if it is at risk before I resort to violence.

He takes a moment to scan the room, his gaze lingering on each figure for what most would deem an uncomfortable amount of time before passing to the next, "These others must come with us? Which of them do you deem worthy?"

Darn, Looks like I'll miss this one. Have fun everyone. :)

Finished up this alias, corrected some minor errors in her stat-block
(Don't character-build when sleep-deprived, kids!)

Umina continues to listen to the conversation, trying to be as inconspicuous as she can.

The figure in the blue cloak catches her eye, and she makes her way to him. She asks the barkeep for water and takes a seat.

An...automaton? Like the League's soldiers? she asks a little too forcibly. What would such things be doing under the ground?

"You didn't notice when you arrived? I have heard tell that the flame illuminates the town of Torch as much during the day as during the night. A smith coming down the Sellen told me that, on certain evenings, it's light becomes intense and fills the night sky. But, it would seem, those days may be past us...there is no flame...it is gone, like the dying of the light...and," nodding at Edana, "my friend here has it right, with no flame then this town's lifeblood is gone"

"What to do about it...that is the question"

Ok, recruitment is closed. Now the hard part begins. Please keep role playing, and I'll work through this process as quickly as I can.
