The sphere stops, and a light plays over the card.
Sense motive: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (15) + 5 = 20
Then it hovers there, waiting.
Anody Gearon, Prof. |
Anody snaps at the robot waving the black card at the thing as well as the slate.
chillblame |
While doing this, the robot targets anody with its integrated sonic weapon.
anody, a new bluff roll is needed, it is suspicious and it is talking to someone or thing else.
Anody Gearon, Prof. |
It's talking to something else. ATTACK! Anody screams and immediately starts a Naturalist Performance. Can't repair itself and it's damaged but it's got armour and can target one enemy for extra damage. Electric attacks might stun it. Kill it fast. I don't know what it's communicating with!
Hope we get a surprise Round but this would be Anody's first action in any case.
Naturalist: The archivist and any allies within 30 feet gain a +1 insight bonus to AC and on attack rolls and saving throws against extraordinary, supernatural, and spell-like abilities used by creatures of that specific kind of monster
Sharae of the River |
As Anody gives the order to attack, Sharae releases the elemental and commands it to attack the flying robot.
GM – FYI, the Small Air Elemental’s initiative is +7 (also: AC17/Touch14/HP13)
Small Air Elemental, Slam vs Robot: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (13) + 6 = 19 for 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3
Note that Airborne Creatures take a -1 penalty on attack / damage rolls vs the Air Elemental
Whispering her customary prayers, Sharae asks Desna to guide Valia’s sword hand.
Sharae, Guidance on Valia – Valia may take a +1 bonus on his next attack roll or skill check
Criek Prisil |
Criek will have done his best to hide, after spotting the robot and retreating to the rest of the party. Considering how eager everyone is to 'specimen' me, no reason to draw attention...
stealth: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (18) + 9 = 27
On Anody's cry, he lobs a bomb at the construct--
ranged touch, point blank, bard perf: 1d20 + 6 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 6 + 1 + 1 = 9 sorry, everybody...gm, roll for off-target direction?
fire damage: 2d6 + 4 ⇒ (1, 4) + 4 = 9 splash=6 fire damage, DC15 reflex for half
--but, somewhat rattled by the idea of the robot signaling reinforcements, the bomb goes wild.
chillblame |
This is a surprise round. One standard action
Stillness is changed into manic action as the party starts the combat.
Valia swings the first blow, but although he strikes the sphere cleanly, his sword bounces off.
The robot, focused with its sensors on anody seems confused by Valia sudden, though ineffective attack.
GMPC
Ayla cries out a warcry bringing her blade own onto the exterminator. Her muscles seem to bulge as she strikes
swift action strength surge
nodachi: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (17) + 7 = 24
damage: 1d10 + 7 ⇒ (1) + 7 = 8
unfortunately the blade bounces off the robot's hard shell
reflex: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (18) + 3 = 21 she manages to avoid most the damage, and ignores the rest.
Sharea speaks a strnge word and the spell she had being holding is released. A small whirlwind appears and strikes the sphere, but with little effect.
Anody starts rattling off what he knows about the robot, stuttering slightly as he realises that its weapon is still targeted on him. But his information aids the parties attack from that point.
Criek hurls a bomb, but it goes array. where oh where will it land: 1d8 ⇒ 3. Right under anody's feet
Anody, air elemental, and ayla please make reflex saves, DC15. 6hp if you fail, 3hp if you make it, fire damage
exterminators reflex save: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (11) + 8 = 19
chillblame |
Some of criek's bomb damages the robot, and it reacts to the damage.
Alert, alert I am under attack. Assistance needed. Damage sustained.
Robot
Hp taken 3
AC 20
flat footed 15.
Touch 10, but after it acts, 15
currently it is flat footed until it acts in round one. Valia can therefore still hit it flatfooted.
Anody Gearon, Prof. |
man what is the DR on that thing? Would Anody be able to figure it out?
reflex: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (18) + 4 = 22
Anody manages to avoid the worst of the errant bomb's fire.
Ayla Noya Aiba |
"I'll Try it, but no guarntees on this things effectiveness since I've not used it before."
Attack: 1d20 + 5 + 1 ⇒ (9) + 5 + 1 = 15
Damage: 3d6 + 4 + 1 ⇒ (5, 3, 5) + 4 + 1 = 18
Buff Added
Sharae of the River |
Without wishing to be a party pooper... The chainsword takes a Standard Action to start up so Ayla can't attack this round with it... Also, does Ayla have the required exotic weapon proficiency? If not, doesn't she treat it as an improvised weapon?
Anody Gearon, Prof. |
Ahhhh! Anody screams as he gets the full brunt of the attack. He ducks behind a corner if he can to get away from the machine's line of sight and continues his performance. Energy attacks will go right through it's defense. Otherwise a really very very hard hit might get through it's metal carapace! Sorry can't see map again
Sharae of the River |

Sharae closes her eyes and, looking into the world beyond, sees the probable movements of the robot in the immediate future with a little more clarity – touching Valia on the shoulder, she shares this vision with him…
Sharae, Bit of Luck on Valia – this round, when Valia would roll a d20, he may roll twice and take the better result
The air elemental, it’s strength insufficient to damage the robot, moves around to a flanking position with Valia…
Criek Prisil |
Anxious about hitting his allies again, but heeding Anody's cry about energy damage, Criek takes a bead on the thing and tries another bomb--
ranged touch: 1d20 + 6 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 6 + 1 + 1 = 16
fire damage: 2d6 + 4 ⇒ (5, 1) + 4 = 10

The exterminator's quick movements and thick shell defelect various attacks, but creik's bomb slams into it damaging it.
Danger! I am impaired! Targeting damage source
The robot spins and targets the rat man.
Target is humanoid type, adjusting targeting parameters. EXTERMINATE!
The robot fires it's sonic weapon
sonic blaster: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (20) + 9 = 29
damage: 2d6 + 2 ⇒ (2, 4) + 2 = 8
oh dear
critical confirm: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (16) + 9 = 25
critical damage: 2d6 + 2 ⇒ (3, 5) + 2 = 10
The sonic blast slams into creik, knocking him to the ground in a ripple of energy.
Party is up.
Anody Gearon, Prof. |
Valia, did you roll your attack again to use Sharae's bit of luck buff? Ayla should probably use a standard action to start up the chainsword so she can use it next round I guess..
Sharae of the River |

Grimacing as Criek goes down under the force of the blow from the robot, Sharae calls on Desna’s generosity…
…Could my healing repair the robot? Is that even possible?
Sharae, Channel Energy: 2d6 ⇒ (4, 1) = 5, Healing for Everyone - Selective Channelling to avoid healing the Robot
Air Elemental takes no action and returns to the Plane of Air at the end of the turn
chillblame |
With a stuttering whine the chain sword starts operating. Sharea calls upon her god, and healing energy engulfs the party, except anody who has ducked around the corner. Creik wakes up, finding himself lying on the floor, covered in bruises.
Sharea, what does your elemental do? Remember it could attack to aid another character, giving +2 to an attack or AC vs one attack
Sharae of the River |
GM – I’d forgotten about the ‘Aid Another’ option, thanks for pointing it out…
Slowly dissipating, the whirling elemental changes it shape such that it acts as a funnel for any bombs that Criek may throw..
Small Air Elemental, Aid Another / Criek vs Robot: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (19) + 6 = 25
Criek Prisil |
oof! if i could throw while prone, I'd do it for the ACs...but he'd prob hit me anyways. since Sharae's before Criek in init order, I think I get to act in normal order?
Finding himself on the floor after a momentary blackout, Criek scrambles to his feet, glancing longingly at at the bend in the hall as a chance for cover. Thing would just hunt me down, I've no doubt? The others' weapons don't seem to offer me much protection! So here's hoping--
ranged touch, point-blank, bard, aid: 1d20 + 6 + 1 + 1 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 6 + 1 + 1 + 2 = 17
fire damage, point blank: 2d6 + 4 + 1 ⇒ (4, 2) + 4 + 1 = 11
He watches in satisfaction as his bomb encases the robot in another burst of flames, but starts moving for cover anyways. move action stand up, standard action bomb, 5-foot-step
Valia |
Did ayla attack round two or did she spend it revving up the sword? I think we're in round three now, and the buster should be working.
I also missed the part about sharae's "bit of luck" reroll if allowed for round 2: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (6) + 6 = 12
Anody Gearon, Prof. |
Anody looks around the corner and keeps up his helpful advice. Unlike most of its class of machine, this one can't heal itself, so if we kill it, it will stay dead.
Continue Performance.
Sharae of the River |
Not without a significant dose of weariness in her voice, Sharae shouts back to the Professor, "That'll make for a refreshing change - something that we only have to kill the once". Whether Anody hears her above the whining of the strange and brutal weapon is a moot point...
Reading back through, I think Ayla only starts the chainsword this turn (Valia is the only person to act in Round 3 before the robot - everyone else is taking their third action - which includes the surprise round).
chillblame |
Round one was the attack (surprise round, round two she activated the chainsword, it's now round three.
Creik stands and hurls another bomb at the exterminator, badly damaging the robot.
Round three
Valia attempts to hit the sphere but bounces off its smoking armour.
Alert! Alert! Damage is critical! Withdraw for repairs!
The exterminator attampts to flee, advancing to the double doors the party couldn't open before. These slid open at its approach.
AOO on the robot by Valia, Ayla and the elemental as it flees. If it survives it is at the location on map.
Sharae of the River |
I think the Air Elemental probably dissipates at the end of the previous action - it has acted three times and Sharae is CL 3rd. Regardless, any AoO (even a crit) won't get past the armour...
chillblame |
Ayla swings the humming chainsword in a clean arc as the robot tries to flee, cutting into it savagely. The weapon cuts through the tough outer layer, tearing into it's insides. With sparks flying, it spins, then falls, crashing to the ground.
extreme damage, system malfunction, repair request
Then it grows still, sparks still spitting out from time to time. Tge party smells burning.
