The Avalon Chronicles

Game Master lynora

This is a high level rules light game set in a school for magical kids, kinda a mash-up of Soul Eater, Harry Potter, and X-Men. :)

Male Weremonkey Rogue/Ranger/Trickster

Crown or scepter works. I mean, after all, what's more arrogant and prideful than a symbol that automatically means you're better than everybody else?

By the way, if you were looking for David to be more liked, being the Champion of Pride is probably one of the worst ways to go about it.

I think sceptre or crown would be good for a an adult, but a teenage guy isn't gonna want to wear it all the time. Belt has the showiness without being weird about it.
And there's a difference between pride and arrogance. :P

Shadow Lodge

A ring would be my suggestion.

Posting this to all my games:

Tomorrow, Feb 26th, I need followup surgery on my crushed toe, to deal with part of an exposed bone that is likely infected. This will probably cause me to loose about half my big toe, I think.

As I write this, I am about to go to sleep for a few hours, since I do not think I will be able to truly sleep through the night. I am kinda nervous, despite it being a relatively simple procedure.

I am unsure if I will be posting tomorrow after surgery, but I am hoping I'm fine. If I don't post you now know why.

hmm I already have the one ring, but ring would also be interesting,

also Ace, please explain, Dave's personality won't change (unless Pride pulls a Hope)

That last sentence is possibly the most strange sentence i have seen all day.

Good luck and I hope that your surgery goes well. And of course we understand if you need time to recover after surgery. Sorry you have to go through that.

I could send Nurse Julie to care for you if you want.

Best of luck.

Hey, at least Luck's Champ is pretty...

Also, while it's possible David's personality might not change, there's a reason he was chosen. Too, all of the other Champs are gonna know your Pride, which could influence their reaction to you.

Just remember, arrogance is not one of the Seven Deadly Sins, but Pride is. Twas not Lucifer's arrogance that lead to his Fall, but his pride. One's pride is what gets in the way of admitting one is wrong.

I think pride is an odd thing to define as a good or bad thing.

On one hand, Pride is important to one's mental health. A reasonable amount of pride is a good thing. It shows that you are confident in yourself and at least you believe your abilities are substantial.

On the other hand, pride being a bad thing, is mostly a religious construct. While there is no Christianity in the game, it's reasonable to assume that some good dietys share factors of it.

Shadow Lodge

Good luck, MG!

In the context of this game, Pride is neutral, just like the other Patrons. It can be bad, in all the ways you would expect. But it's also about celebrating achievements and striving to better yourself. For example you say that someone takes pride in their work when they are constantly striving to do it well. And we tell our children that we're proud of them when they do something well.

As far as Dave goes, I think that he does a good job of embodying both the positive and negative aspects of pride at different times, which is what makes him the perfect choice for Champion of Pride. And if Ryuzo (what's more suspicious than the Champion of Deception?) can navigate relationships with the other Champions without being universally distrusted, I'm pretty sure Dave can manage alright too. :)

If you don't have much pride at all, you'll become mentally unstable, and freak out every time you make a mistake.

Male Drow (noble) 14 Ranger

Deceptions choice of Ryuzo worked well.
She/he/it can remain deceptive, while her champion carries himself with honor. It will reflect upon Her/him/it, enhancing the deception.

Male Drow (noble) 14 Ranger

Confidence is different than pride, although they can certainly feed each other.

Pride kinda encompasses both in this game.

Shadow Lodge

Maybe not completely. People can be confident in their abilities and not proud of it.

yes but those people are usually often sociopaths

Aristotle named Pride as one of his virtues (in Virtue Ethics). Generally, Aristotle said the right way was the mean. That is to say - you want the virtue in moderation. Too little or too much (excess or deficiency) is the wrong path.

I tend to agree. Too much pride makes you arrogant. Too little makes you unsure of yourself. Like most things, you need Balance. Too bad Balance was killed...

Have we passed to the next day yet?

No. We still have stuff to do before this one wraps.

Female awww, but that would be telling unknown

I'm actually waiting on FcD before I move on and post more. He didn't have a chance to react to the stuff with the firebird sun yesterday and that's a big important thing for Ardiente.

REgarding Belsayv: If Ana is waiting for Sadie to act again that's a whole round. Sadie started the round we're currently on by slicing and dicing a demon with a full attack action.

Regarding Kuros: Uh, are you guys going after the train or what?

Yup, mostly my hold up here guys and I apologize. Does anyone mind if I fast-forward the Belsayv combat at this point? There's only two left and they're not going to last very long against firepower of that magnitude.

It's fine by me...at this point it's just mopping up.

I don't really know what to do, I figure express trains go faster than the 97 or so mph I can manage

Female awww, but that would be telling unknown

It's called teleport....it's amazing how it eats up distance. :P

In all seriousness, we don't need to play it out if you guys don't want. I just need to know what the plan is so I can wrap up the narration and give you guys some idea of how long things take before you arrive back at the school.

Lang's trip is still in flight but I should get them to land when it is close to next day.

I don't think there will be much as they set up camp.

Primordial teleport and all.

Oh, that reminds me...one post I forgot to put up....

Tyrrin has greater teleport in her list. I'm going to put up some posts in my classes today so we can get going again.

male human monk 16

FCD a little has happened on the flight with lang and midori and crew, might have gotten buried.

Male sorcerer 16 wilder (leader/telepath) 3 elocater 2, thrallherd 1, pyrokineticist 10.

I don't have teleport (greater or normal) on my spells known, I do have dimension door, between that and being able to go almost 100mph by flying it's usually enough, I'll leave it to Tyrrin

male human monk 16

thanks Ephebe for the reminder...
turned Lang's view of what he thought to be a beautiful sunset, into a cold and uncaring statement (yeah, glad Ignace wasn't there to hear that.)

never put the sunset together with the firebird sun destruction.

M Extrodinaraly Contrary Meatbag Fourm pyromancer 1

Not exactly.

It's optimism. Point out the glorious sunset, the end of a chapter of oppression- as both the real and fake sun set.

Or at least, that's what i see.

Female awww, but that would be telling unknown

The thing with the firebird sun being destroyed is emotionally complicated for all of them. Even the ones who see it as necessary and a part of saving their people and giving them a fresh start are still taking a serious emotional hit right now.

M Extrodinaraly Contrary Meatbag Fourm pyromancer 1

I'm trying to make leng's thing more appororiate.

Female awww, but that would be telling unknown

Well, Lang pointed out the sunset right before the destruction, so mostly it was just poor timing. Shortly after they were admiring it they would have seen the shadow moving across the big sun as the firebird sun was destroyed. So he wasn't being intentionally insensitive. He just hadn't realized what was about to happen.

male human monk 16

Yeah, I am the master of poor timing...

FireclawDrake wrote:

Go for it, I've not seen any reason to wait further.

I wasn't sure Sadie's attack was a new round, but Anahita wasn't going to do much, just prepare and throw out a heal or such, if needed.

I vote we wrap it up, lots of people just ignoring the situation, IMHO.

Male I am a meat Popsicle

I am fine with a Belsayv speed-up

Male Human Barbarian 16

All I want to say is that there's a near-raging barbarian storming through the halls, banging on the walls, yelling how he needs to see the master of heads, and it seems that no one is paying attention. I realize that this is probably mundane within the Academy, but I was hoping at least one person would take notice.

Male I am a meat Popsicle

The best laid plans, and all that...

M Extrodinaraly Contrary Meatbag Fourm pyromancer 1

Well, one, most everyone is recovering from a lot that has happened.

Two, responding to the insane barbarian isn't the best survival instinct, is it?

Male Drow (noble) 14 Ranger

Most of the PCs are otherwise occupied.

Female awww, but that would be telling unknown

Sent someone to rescue Kodjack.

Female Human (three-tailed)

i wasn't willing to help, because i won't tolerate being poorly treated and not listened to.

If anyone has the Motorola DROID Maxx, I found an otter box case that goes to it. Used, but it's one of the expensive extra protection ones.
