I'm just waiting to see if Orwin has anything to say :)

map of Sandpoint | current map

sorry, busy week- just found out we're moving at the end of June (which seems like a long time from now but we have a ton to do between now and then)

"Captain Telmar," Orin corrects Axel, "and, no, we haven't figured out how they all got in. Some did make it through the north gate but the numbers don't add up by any count- there had to be a dozen or more that got in another way. If you hear anything let us know, there could even be a reward in it for you."

Splitting up as they leave the Garrison, Kejak and Ellen head towards the Cathedral while Axel makes his way south towards the Vinder home. Josie is not available when they arrive and Augustino (the same acolyte they saw earlier) informs them that Father Zantus has sent her out of the city on an errand of some kind. He gratefully accepts the coins on her behalf and assures them that she'll receive the reward when she returns. With that business finished, they head down to the Hagfish (33 on the map) for dinner. Named for the large, slimy fish that lives in a glass tank behind the bar, the Hagfish is a popular tavern that serves fresh seafood and houses a gambling parlor in back. The chatty, one-legged owner, Jargie Quinn, was offering a special for the festival called the Captain's Feast. Despite the festival being interrupted, the special--which includes two bowls of hearty conch and mussel stew, a platter of grilled prawns, and a whole grouper roasted with carrots and parsnips--is still available, and seems quite popular.

When Axel draws near to the Vinder house Shayliss slips out the front door and bounces down the stairs. He barely has a chance to pick his jaw up off the street before she wraps her arm around his and presses herself against his side. The two of them attract quite a few glances as they walk across town to the White Deer (#3), the fanciest of Sandpoint's restaurants. The menu there is always small but tonight there is only one option: pepper-crusted venison tenderloin with mushroom sauce, served with mashed red potatoes, cranberry-apple chutney, and fresh herb bread. The dining room is far busier than usual but the couple is quickly offered the last open table.

RP away!

Kejak sits with Ellen at a table and starts chatting about nonsense. "See, Ellen? I already thought they must have entered the town through somewhere else, our guards are..." He interrupts himself for a moment. "Would you like to share a special, or are you hungry enough to have a whole one yourself?"

Going on with the chatting, Kejak notices some stares. "Ummm... I think there will be some talking about us, but... well, who cares. Don't you think? Can't two people who've shared the battlefield just have dinner together without any need of... mating intentions?" he adds at the end, trying to make Ellen feel a bit more comfy by removing any sense of dating there could be.

"To your very good health!", grinned Axel! Clink. Gazing into her eyes, Axel said, "Good food, good wine, good company. What more could one want in life?" Of course that was an interesting question, Axel was very much enjoying this moment, but it set him wondering where he wanted to be in five years. With Shayliss yes, but maybe not with a crying infant in tow, not for a good few years at least... He had a good feeling he knew where Shayliss wanted this to go tonight, in truth that would be nice, but rushing into such things tended to ruin everything. He really liked her and so was inclined to play things slow.

Smiling at her he asked, "Have you ever thought about what you'd want to do with your life? I guess maybe you'd inherit the shop one day, not a bad life. I'm curious though, is that what you want?"

map of Sandpoint | current map

Axel and Shayliss are seated in a back corner and the waiter suggests an excellent (and pricey) bottle of red wine to pair with the meal. The food and his suggestion both really are quite good. The beautiful redhead smiles and laughs as they make small talk but seems genuinely surprised when the questions turn serious.

"Umm, not really..." she answers looking away for the first time, "I mean, I think all women see themselves getting married eventually, but I guess I haven't given it much thought beyond that. I have an older sister, she might get the shop but her and my dad are... not getting along right now."

She falls silent for a moment then turns back to Axel. "Enough about that. You were so amazing today. Were you scared?"

Axel pours a little more of the wine and swirls it around in his glass considering it. He replies, "It all happened so fast. I don't think it really sunk in till later just how dangerous that situation had been. We where really lucky more people didn't get hurt, I'm just glad I was able to help. Anyway, apparently we've all been invited to lunch with Lord Foxglove tomorrow, exciting huh? Mind you did you see Ellen's face?! I think he's really into her but it looked like she was waiting for the ground to open up and swallow her..."

HP: 8/11

Ellen is about to suggest they share a special, but an embarrassing grumble suggests otherwise. "Um, I think I could eat one myself."

She smiles at Kejak's clarifications. "Wouldn't be the first odd rumor to get spread about me." She chuckles awkwardly at the joke that was not as funny as she thought it would be. "But... really, thank you. This was a nice thing for you to do, as a friend." They were friends, right? Ellen did not think they had really been friends before - Kejak never bullied her, which was better than most of the boys at the academy, but they also hardly ever spoke and were mostly just both friends with Josie. Still, usually when you have killed a few goblins together there is some sort of camaraderie to be had. That is how it works in the stories, at any rate.

Male Human Fighter 1 | HP: 12/12 (14/14) | AC: 17 (T: 14 FF: 13) (-2 Enraged) | Fort: +4(+6), Ref: +4, Will: +2(+4) | CMB: +3(+5) CMD: 17 | Init: +4 | Perception: +7 | Bloodrage 6/6 | Hero Points: 1/1 | Ammo 28/40 | Active Conditions: None.

Kejak highly suspects Ellen will not be able to finish her special, but he orders two anyway. "Actually, I'm so hungry that I kind of wish she won't finish it."

There are a ton of things Kejak wants to ask Ellen. How does she feel about today? How does she feel any other day? Why is she avoiding leaving the Academy? But these things would make her retreat into herself, as she seems to do quite too often. One day she'll have to confront all this stuff, but Kejak thinks that, for today, confronting all these goblins should be enough and she just deserves a nice relaxing meal.

"I'm not really a big seafood fan, but they do it really good here."

Not being the best of the talkers, this is the kind of comment expected to be heard from him during the evening, something that Ellen might or might not appreciate, but anyway all that he's capable.

HP: 8/11

"I haven't had enough to say, but I'm sure it will be good." Ellen had never been too picky, though her palate had never been truly tested at the academy.

Ellen takes a sip from her water, looking a bit nervous. "I've... never done anything like that before. I have my little dagger for self-defense, but I never expected to use it, you know? It just sort of happened." She turns her cup on the table, fidgeting slightly. "Have you fought like that before, Kejak?"

Male Human Fighter 1 | HP: 12/12 (14/14) | AC: 17 (T: 14 FF: 13) (-2 Enraged) | Fort: +4(+6), Ref: +4, Will: +2(+4) | CMB: +3(+5) CMD: 17 | Init: +4 | Perception: +7 | Bloodrage 6/6 | Hero Points: 1/1 | Ammo 28/40 | Active Conditions: None.

Kejak thinks a bit before answering. "No, never. I've been hunting and practicing, and one time I had to point at someone as an intimidatory act, but I'd never been in such a situation." He seems to realise the importance of the fact just now, and stops chewing for the first time since their food arrived. "I... supose that in the heat of the moment you don't have time to think about what you're doing, you just do it. Now, though... I realise we were in real danger." He goes on devouring, and shrugs. "And tell you what? I'd do it again. After seeing all the chaos and fear that spread through the city, I would do everything again to spare the people these bad times. I just hope my hand won't tremble next t... er... if there's ever a next time."

***Axel and Shayliss***
When the conversation turns to Ellen and how Lord Foxglove looked at her, Shayliss sits bolt upright and pulls back her shoulders. Something about her posture gives the impression that she's been offended, but it's difficult to focus on that because it also calls a great deal of attention to what's barely contained in the top of her dress. "Yes, Ellen is a beautiful girl, isn't she?" she asks scrutinizing Axel's reaction.

***Kejak and Ellen***
The serving girl chuckles a bit when Kejak orders two specials but dutifully heads off to place the order. As the two newly battle-tested friends talk the reason for the server's amusement quickly becomes apparent... the four bowls she brings to table are each nearly the size of Ellen's head and all are loaded with big chunks of conch and mussels, yams, acorn squash, and pork belly in a tomato broth; then she quickly returns with two big plates both of which hold a dozen large grilled prawns; finally she comes a third time with two more platters that each have a three or four pound (roughly 1.5 kilo) whole fish resting on a pound or two of roasted carrots and parsnips. If people hadn't taken notice of the two of them before they certainly do now that their table is overflowing with food.

Axel was puzzled by Shayliss' reaction and he shrugged slightly as he replied smoothly, "It's true she's turned out pretty well, but she's really not my type at all though. Pretty sure that's mutual by the way! Besides you're way prettier and much more fun to be around, if she was here she'd be all broody about something."

Axel thought about adding that he'd always picture her as that painfully thin shy girl two grades below me, which was inextricably linked with the image of what happened to to that guy during the incident. Of course that wasn't a suitable topic for polite society, so Axel dropped it.

On a hunch he asked, "So what do you make of Lord Foxglove?"

HP: 8/11

Ellen gives Kejak a warm smile. "You're a very brave man. I'm sure Sandpoint could count on you if needed again." "I am not quite so brave," she thinks to herself. What would he think if she told him? Told him about the strange and alien voice that took advantage of her stress and urged her on to fight, to kill. She had had every intention of running away but that... thing inside her wanted very badly to make those goblins bleed. It was only goblins this time, but...

Ellen's introspection was thankfully interrupted by the arrival of the food. "Oh... oh my." She had apparently underestimated what a "special" meant at this restaurant; even with their hunger it was doubtful they could finish even one of these. She suddenly felt rather guilty about making Kejak pay for all this.

map of Sandpoint | current map

***Axel***
Shayliss makes a modest effort to appear embarrassed by Axel's compliments. When he asks about Lord Foxglove she smiles coyly and replies, "oh, he's very handsome, but not my type."

She softly laughs just a little and then continues, "In truth, I've never actually met him- only seen him in the street once or twice. I've heard he's rather generous but has the typical noble's ego. I bet it will be quite the spread... not as intimate as this, though, I'm sure." She places her smooth warm hand on his and looks deeply into his eyes. "Still, what an honor to be a invited to dine with a nobleman; it's proof of how heroic you were."

map of Sandpoint | current map

Ellen- the fact that it came with two bowls of the same stew was supposed to alert you that it was meant to be shared. Honestly though I like how this playing out better, lol.

Male Human Fighter 1 | HP: 12/12 (14/14) | AC: 17 (T: 14 FF: 13) (-2 Enraged) | Fort: +4(+6), Ref: +4, Will: +2(+4) | CMB: +3(+5) CMD: 17 | Init: +4 | Perception: +7 | Bloodrage 6/6 | Hero Points: 1/1 | Ammo 28/40 | Active Conditions: None.

"Well, you also did a good job there facing the gob... them" corrects Kejak in the last second, trying (and failing) not to mention the word 'goblin' again for today.

When the food arrives, he can't help but comment "Wow, I didn't think it was going to be that much". He smiles, anyway, at the possibility of Ellen beating some goblin ass today but then get owned by a bowl of soup. "Don't worry, Ellen, a day is a day. Eat only as much as you want, the rest we'll ask if we can take it home. Or we'll give it to someone who needs it".

Seeing the evening as an opportunity to know a bit more about her, Kejak 'casually' asks "So, tell me... is there any weird reason why you're still living with Ilsoari? Or do you just feel better there?"

"There. I finally did it".

HP: 8/11

Ellen starts up on one of the fish in preparation for her answer. Her eyes widen when the fish touches her tongue. "Oh, this is very good."

Once she has that first bite swallowed, she puts her utensils down and takes a deep breath. "I know I can't stay at the Academy forever, I just... don't have anywhere else to go. I have a bit of a reputation, you know. Regular fights will be dismissed as the years go by, but I'm still the girl who nearly sapped the life essence out of a boy to a lot of people in Sandpoint." She takes another bite of fish before continuing. "Ilsoari doesn't seem bothered by it, just... curious? He runs these tests sometimes, trying to figure out where exactly my magic is coming from. Nothing too invasive, of course."

@GM: Would Ilsoari recognize Ellen's stress-babble as Aklo?

Male Human Fighter 1 | HP: 12/12 (14/14) | AC: 17 (T: 14 FF: 13) (-2 Enraged) | Fort: +4(+6), Ref: +4, Will: +2(+4) | CMB: +3(+5) CMD: 17 | Init: +4 | Perception: +7 | Bloodrage 6/6 | Hero Points: 1/1 | Ammo 28/40 | Active Conditions: None.

"Oh, that... yes, I always forget about it" says Kejak with a neutral face. He doesn't want to appear too worried, though looking smiley would seem like taking it too lightly. "I mean the fact that it was you who... you know..."

While putting his thoughts in order, Kejak tries some more fish. It's definitely superior to any other fish he's tried before.

"Well, you certainly showed a lot of people today what you're capable of... for good. I mean, people won't really begin to trust you or appreciate you while you stay secluded in the shadows. You'll always be 'the dangerous girl who did this and now just hides'. But... did you see their faces today? You were 'the girl who fought the goblins to protect us'. Do you follow me? This stigma isn't going to wash away itself".

'Was that a deflection, using my own rhetorical device? I suppose I should be flattered in a way. Something feels slightly off here although, heavens! Who am I kidding? Her touch is electric...' Axel allows himself to be distracted by the warmth of her touch and dreamily stares deeply into her eyes, finding them memorizing. When eventually she looks away, Axel huskily asks, "Of course you'll be coming too tomorrow? I'd like you to be by my side when we meet him."

I wonder if Axel is setting himself up to be horribly hurt by Shayliss. Dumped in favor of nobility...

map of Sandpoint | current map

@Ellen- Ilsoari does know that it's Aklo you speak when distressed. He would not have shared this information with you though unless you really pressed for it (your call).

***Axel***
"Really?!?" Shayliss asks, her face lighting up, "you would bring me along even though I didn't do any of the fighting? Axel you're amazing..."

Leaning forward so he can hear her whisper, but perhaps also for the view it provides him, she adds, "how can I ever repay such courage and kindness?"

HP: 8/11

Ellen would not have asked.

"Maybe you're right." Ellen thinks over that as she eats a spoonful of stew. "Maybe instead of running away from what I can do I should point it in the right direction?" Now that Ellen thought about it, Ilsoari had nudged her that way a few times but she had never taken it seriously before. Fighting a troop of goblins can change people, it seems.

At that point, without rhyme or reason, Ellen lets out an annoyed groan, as if somewhere out there a pair of lovebirds struck on her last nerve. She flushes with embarrassment, saying "S-sorry, I don't know why I just did that. Seeking to change the subject, she adds, "I know you promised to pay for this, but it's okay if you'd rather split the cost... I ordered much more food than I should have, and I think a lot of it is going to go to waste."

Axel smiled enigmatically, he had a few ideas for how she could do that... Without missing a beat he asked, "Perhaps you'd care to accompany me to the theater? I'm afraid I haven't booked any tickets, but I expect today's excitement will have scared a lot of the regulars away so we'll be able buy tickets at the door. I'm pretty sure the show will go on regardless, I heard Cyrdak Drokkus had pulled out all the stops for tonight's performance."

I made that last bit up but it makes sense if he had. Axel will have quite a bit of respect for their local bard and possibly learned a good deal of lore from watching various performances whenever he had the coin.

The Harpy's Curse starts its run at the theater tomorrow... They weren't going to open tonight because there was supposed to be a ceremony to consecrate the new Cathedral. alright, we both missed the window to edit, so...

"Oh, we must!" Shayliss answers grinning, "Look, it's getting dark already. My how the time's flown. Perhaps we should head over now before we're too late?"

Kejak misinterprets the sound coming from Ellen as a yawn, and smiles. "Don't worry, it's been a long and heavy day. We all should get some sleep, tomorrow I foresee also a very busy schedule, at least if you work for Sheriff Hemlock" and he accompany his last words with a mocking military salute.

On the subject of the bill, Kejak lifts his hand as if denying. "No, no, don't worry. It is not going to go to waste anyway. What can be kept, we can take it home and have it tomorrow. Anything that will be spoiled by tomorrow we can give to someone who needs it more than we do". When a maiden passes by, he asks her for the bill.

"Right, so... about what we were talking before... just think about it, will you? That's all I'll say on the matter for now".

Hammered with work this week and of course when I get home I've got to put the kids to bed and household chores to deal wth. It's nearly 11pm and I've only just had time to get round to PbP games :(

Axel suddenly looks chagrinned before laughing at himself, "Silly me. Do you know what? I got the dates mixed up, the play starts it's run tomorrow! The Harpie's curse is supposed to be good though, I'll try and get us some tickets."

Shayliss wrote:

Axel glances out and replies, "Wow when did that happen, I totally didn't notice! Just goes to show hoe much I've enjoyed your company. Anyway maybe I should get the bill and walk you home and then we can reconvene tomorrow? Lunch with nobility and with luck the Theater after, should be fun!"

As much as Axel might secretly want something to happen tonight, he's going to be a gentleman and resist those impulses.

"I will. Thank you, Kejak. It is odd; they had spent years being nothing more than cordial strangers, but now after this one day Ellen feels she can call Kejak a friend.

Ellen looks down at the table and realizes how much was still left. "Urgh... I can't eat another bite. Maybe we can give the perishables to Ilsoari to distribute to the younger children."

sorry for the delay

***Ellen and Kejak***
It had seemed as though people had lost interest in the quiet pair as they ate. This illusion is shattered, however, when they ask the waitress if there is some way to wrap up the heap of remaining food: suddenly laughter erupts from several other tables and in the gambling parlor there are an equal number of cheers and disappointed groans. When man who was apparently on the losing side of a wager even calls out, "c'mon, ya can eat more than that!"

The waitress chuckles at all the reactions but scurries off and quickly returns with some clean old cloth. There's nothing that can be done about the leftover soup but she helps to wrap up what remains of the fish and prawns. That's 2 gold, Kejak, for all that food and your drinks.

***Axel***
Shayliss makes no attempt to hide her disappointment when talk turns to heading home. As if she can tell their time is drawing to a close, their server clears the empty dishes from their table and leaves a slip of parchment with beautiful calligraphy which turns out to be the bill. That's 1 gold for the meals and 5 more for the bottle of wine.

Axel's stunning date takes his hand and protests, "Oh, not so soon... there must be something other than the theater we can do? Perhaps you could show me where you live? I bet I could learn a lot about you from seeing your room."

Kejak is surprised by the exclamation, and quickly turns to see the man. He notes down mentally who he is. "Might pay in the puture to know who's an idiot".

After paying the bill, Kejak offers Ellen a relaxed walk back to the Academy.

"Shall we call you tomorrow if we find something interesting to do about the goblins? I promise we won't call if the job is about cleaning blood" he winks.

Ellen flushes with embarrassment at the heckler; despite her face, her voice sounds oddly calm and mocking when she says, "Noi'wd ltak tomuu; wosayu brtl hoyno euct sow doem l'wo." Intimidate: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (20) + 8 = 28 I had to do it to 'im

Ellen follows Kejak back to the Academy, arms full with leftovers. Even looking at the uneaten food makes her feel a little guilty, but she manages to put on a brave face.

"Um, thank you for having me," she smiles sincerely at him. "Please do tell me if you learn anything. I... I do want to help." Peeking out behind the stacks of fish Kejak can see her eyes with a rare look of determination.

Aklo:
You would not want me to burst; you would not like what comes out.

Technically, using intimidate requires either verbal threats (which have to be understood to be effective), or some kind of show of power... you didn't really meet either requirement here, but since you did roll a natural 20...

The drunken lout who'd had the gall to share his opinions on Ellen and Kejak's meal looks unfamiliar- probably a visitor in town for the festival. When strange utterances emerge from the small woman and a surprising ferocity creeps across her face, the drunk's brazen attitude evaporates and he timidly sits down and slides his chair slightly to one side where another gambler hides him from view.

Back at the Academy, Headmaster Gandethus opens the gate to let Ellen back in. He gives Kejak a friendly handshake and says, "Have a good night, my boy. You did well today, from all that I've heard." As he turns and escorts Ellen across the courtyard he adds, "Well, I've shared a number of stories of my adventures with you; now, it seems, the time has come for you to share a story of your adventures with me."

Ellen- feel free to RP with Ilsoari a little if you want, otherwise we'll just assume you fill him in on today's events 'off camera'. If Axel's resolve holds we'll probably be moving on to lunch tomorrow after his next post...

Axel pays the bill with no fuss, leaving a few extra silver for the tip.

"Errr.", Axel felt his resolve wavering as Shayliss gazed into his eyes and he found his body responding. But suddenly his mind went back to those stories Ilsoari told them about men with loose morals who took advantage. Ever since he'd been old enough to know what they'd meant, Axel had promised himself he wasn't like that. So a little sheepishly he replied, "Oh heck I'll probably regret saying this in the morning. Look Shayliss I really like you and yes I would love to show you my room, just not tonight. I'm after a relationship not a one night stand and this is all going waaay too fast. I'd like to take you to dinner again tomorrow night and the day after that too. Assuming that's what you want of course."

Shayliss' eyes narrow in disbelief for a moment as you speak. Taking your arm and pressing herself against your side once more she answers, "I accept your invitations. That's lunch and dinner tomorrow, plus dinner again the following day? A girl could get used to this kind of treatment."

Aside from drawing a few more gawkers, the twilight stroll back to Shayliss' place is pleasant but uneventful. When you arrive there she gives your arm a quick squeeze and says, "I'll see you tomorrow a little before lunch." As she walks up the short staircase and into the house you can't help but notice how shapely she is even from behind.

***Everyone***
By morning life in Sandpoint seems, for the most part, to have returned to normal. People may be a bit more on edge than usual, but from your rooms the sounds and smells of the city are just as they ought to be. Breakfast seems to taste just a little bit better than usual now that you've faced down the goblin menace, and the promise of a nice lunch with a grateful nobleman sets a cheery tone for the day.

Anyone have anything they want to do before lunch, or any special preparations they want to make?

Kejak wakes up with this sensation of having done what needed to be done, the thing that starts to make you a man over a teenager. Despite having eaten till nearly exploding the yesterday night, he asks for a full breakfast at the Rusty Dragon. "It might be a busy day" he thinks.

Once fully operational, he heads out to the Sheriff's place and presents himself to be deployed in any kind of task needed for today. "Anything new about yesterday's events?" he dares to ask.

The desk sergeant, a surly man in his fifties named Byron Church, glances up from whatever he was reading. "Hello, auxiliary watchman Kejak. Looking for work? Sure, Avertin was injured yesterday; you can take his shift- evening shift at the north gate. Nothing new to report on the attack. Good day." Without really even waiting for a reply the sergeant returns to his reading.

Next morning Axel woke up with a smile, yesterday had been rather exciting who could say what The Great Dreamer had planned for today? He couldn't wait to find out!

After getting washed, shaved and dressed, he headed over to the general store to meet up with Shayliss before making his way to Rusty Dragon. Normally he'd have hooked up with Kejak but he had a feeling his friend would be busy this morning.

Upon seeing Shayliss, he beamed "Good Morning! You look radiant today! He offered her his arm so they could walk together for a while before lunch.

Ellen awakes the next morning, earlier and more refreshed than she has in a long time. Her good morning mood dampers a bit when she remembers the day's obligation; even someone with as little experience in romance as Ellen could see Foxglove's intentions towards her.

"How do you even turn down a man like that?" Ellen sighs as she gets herself prepared for the day. She would have to find out - she had no interest in returning his advances, mildly flattering though they may be.

After a nice stroll around town, Axel and Shayliss spot Kejak (on his way back from the Garrison) as they approach the Rusty Dragon from opposite ends of Market Street. They enter the inn together and see one table set apart in the far corner, appointed with much nicer utensils than usual and nice linen napkins. Ellen, concerned about being stuck alone with Lord Foxglove, arrives a few minutes later, just in time to be seated with her friends (and Shayliss). There are four places set at the table and after the party is seated a serving girl quickly brings out four nice ceramic bowls full of curried pumpkin soup and a platter of sliced freshly baked bread. The food smells tremendous but Shayliss looks around uncomfortably. "Should we wait for Lord Foxglove?" she asks, looking at an empty chair with no silverware set before it.

Kejak nods and salutes as he leaves. After his noon date for lunch, he'll be on duty. Then he heads home to dress properly and get ready for the occasion.

I guess I should have started the last post with: ***everyone***
If there's any question about it, everyone is now at lunch in the Rusty Dragon (as stated in my previous post).

"Well I suppose we ought to..." replied Axel uncertainty, all this food was making him very hungry! He squeezed her hand before catching the eye of a member of staff and asking, "Excuse me, have you seen Lord Foxglove? We where expecting him to join us."

Ellen is a bit relieved to see Foxglove is not there when she arrives, though is a little less relieved when he still does not show up after a few minutes. Any other time she would be jumping to conclusions, but given the recent happenings...

"No, no, I'm sure it's fine." she shifts uncomfortably as she waits for the staff member's answer, not wanting to start eating first.

The serving girl Axel waves over looks around uncomfortably. "Uh," she stammers, "Lord Foxglove sends his regrets... he won't be able to join you today but he hopes you'll enjoy the meal he's provided..."

From across the room Josie's friend Bethana (the Rusty Dragon's resident maid) shakes her head sadly.

"Oh, that's... unfortunate. Did he gave a reason?"

'Oh hello, what's going on here?' wonders Axel. He shares a glance with Shayliss before grinning, "Well I suppose we might as well start. Shall I pass you something to drink?"

He keeps half an aye on Bethana hoping she'll explain what she knows.

"Oh, that's too bad." It was not really too bad of course, though it relieved Ellen that he was able to send notification; meant that he had not been kidnapped by goblins or anything. They can eat their free food without worry.

Noticing that Axel didn't get it, Kejak insists. He was never good with words, but Axel was, so he's trying to call his attention to the fact that the maiden knows something she's not telling.

Looking at Axel with a forced gesture, he adds "Isn't it strange, dear Axel, that our dear Lord Foxglove invited us and now he suddenly has better things to do?"

Now, really, neither Kejak nor I are any good at this...

"I don't think he gave a reason," the server answers quite innocently, "but I hope you came hungry because he ordered a full seven course banquet."

Across the common room Bethana notices that Kejak is staring at her and trying to direct Axel's attention to her. Suddenly looking like a kid caught with her hand in the cookie jar, she grabs her hand broom and dust pan and disappears under one of the tables to clean.

"How peculiar." replied Axel but then Bethana started acting weird. Loudly so there was no chance of her mishearing, Axel enquired with a smile, "Uh Ma'am? I'm probably worrying about nothing, but has he paid for this right?"
