Male Human Druid 3

Initiative: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6

A look of surprise crosses Wilams face as everyone starts to draw their weapons. Then a growl of frustration escapes his lips as he tries to react to the rapidly deteriorating situation.

'What a fool I was to assume that this would go well, and for trusting that halfling. More blood spilled over trivial matters.'

(AC 19, hp 33 of 37) Human Cleric (Urgathoa) 6

Initiative 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5

"You said there would be no need to kill anyone, rodent. My fee will go up!" Mordecai says, appearing more put out by the prospect of violence than alarmed.

His morning star, as if possessed by some unclean spirit, lurches through the air and strikes at the proprietor.

Hand of the Acolyte. It flies up to 30 ft., makes a single attack, and then returns to his grasp.

Kuva's grin widens at the prospect of a fight. "It is a good day for the dance," he says, advancing on the staff-bearing guard.

Kuva will stand in front of the door and draw his falchion.

Male Human Diviner Wizard 6

Initiative: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (19) + 3 = 22

Lecian draws his crossbow and loads it.

Surprise Round:

Your visible opponents arm themselves. Mordecai's morning star smacks Smit's shoulder. He starts to fall, but catches himself.

"All we want is the gnome!"

Getheldam dives under the table.

Maps, etc...

The half orc is ducking for cover behind the table, but Lothan's arrow finds its mark. The arrow scores a long furrow in his leather armour and flesh before lodging near his shoulder blade. With a snarl the halforc raises his head and the crossbow.

Lecian

Male Human Diviner Wizard 6

Lecian moves towards cover as he fingers a piece of cured leather and whispers some words, casting Mage Armor to coat himself in a suit made of force.

Maps, etc...

Lecian gets his spell off just in time. The staff wielder feints toward Kuva and skips toward the mage. His staff darts at Lecian, then the other end whirls toward the wizard's face.

Whistling a jaunty aria from a popular Karcau opera, Tyrrol brings his flail around in a powerful blow directed at Smit's head...

That's going to make even spell completion difficult.

Smit collapses. The wand skitters across the floor.

Kuva

The Exchange

Male Halfing Barbarian 4

Kuva smiles widely as he dodges the attack from the staff wielder. "Come, pole handler, our dance begins here," Kuva says, dripping red juice. He swings hard at the man's side.

[ooc]Begin my rage, swing at staff man.

Cross-bow steps back and brings his weapon to bear on Tyrrol, firing at point blank range.

Attack 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (1) + 5 = 6 .. damage 1d10 ⇒ 3

The quarrel jams in the track and bursts into splinters.

Wilam and Mordecai

(AC 19, hp 33 of 37) Human Cleric (Urgathoa) 6

Mordecai catches the returning morningstar and it immediately dances into the air once again, this time flying towards the individual with the crossbow.

Seeing the man's crossbow jam, he shakes his head and says almost sympathetically. "The gods have cursed you this day, flee while you yet live."

Skewered by an arrow, and battered by the flying morning star, Crossbow seems to lose hope. While holding the crossbow out defensively, he backs up a step toward the doorway to the rear of the shop.

Wilam quickly moves to the door heading into the back of the shop and flings it open with Sora right on his heels. If there is a single person there Sora will double move to end her turn next to the person while Wilam shouts:

"Stop moving or I will have her rip your guts out!"

Maps, etc...

Wilam's route DC 101d20 ⇒ 9

Unfortunately there is no route to the back room that won't risk an AoO from Crossbow. How badly do you want it? The blades on his crossbow look to be equivalent to a dagger interms of damage.

Male Human Druid 3

Wilam will ignore the crossbowman and accept the AoO.

Maps, etc...

That's real hero stuff there willing to take a hit for the good of the team.

Cross-bow's AoO : 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (10) + 5 = 15 .. damage 1d4 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4

Crossbow thinks that Wilam is coming for him and slashes at the druid as he passes. Wilam deflects the blow easily and rips through the curtain door. He thunders out his warning as Sora dashes by. A young man, no a half-elf, with ginger hair hops off a ladder and takes a step toward the door. He stops at the sight of the big cat.

Crossbow starts moving toward the front of the shop, starting with a series of jabs at Mordecai along the way.

Wilam will step into melee range with the half elf, while Sora takes a 5 foot step hopefully allowing the two of them to flank. After that Willam will have a ready action to attack if the half elf does anything other than going prone. Sora readies an action to attack if Wilam attacks.

"Keep your guard up, tall warrior," Kuva growls. "Your time will come if you continue to defend yourself like that!" Kuva takes another swing at the beleaguered fighter.

Maps, etc...

Mordecai's morningstar misses the crossbowman as he flees toward the door.

Wilam intimidate v. 11. 1d20 - 2 ⇒ (2) - 2 = 0

The young half-elf hesitates, then makes a break for the door. Sora pounces immediately. One of her claws snags in his leg, slowing him enough that Wilam catches up and lays him flat with a blow from his club.

Lothan's arrow flies wide.

Lecian's magic missile strikes home against the staff weilder who tries to push Kuva clear and open the door.

Tyrrol whirls to chase Crossbow. His flail smashes into the half-orc's back, and he tumbles to the floor. He doesn't get up.

Kuva beats through Staff's guard and a blow to the hip leaves Staff on the floor with his leg gashed open and bent perpendicular to the direction it should point. "Mercy," he pleads.

The field of battle is yours. No one is quite dead yet.

Spoiler:

In a GURPS game, I had a character fumble a healing spell and damage an NPC ally that was badly hurt, dropping him to the brink of death. Out of game, I said, 'Well, statistically, that won't happen again,' and, of course, it did, and I fumbled again, killing the NPC outright. The character, bad-tempered, said, 'I meant to do that! The fool kept getting us into trouble, anyay. Let that be a warning to the rest of you!'

Noting that all of his opponents appear to be dead or dying, despite (or perhaps because of) his companions attempts to spare them, Tyrrol shrugs, moves over to the front door, and bars it.

What is destined to happen, will happen. There is no point trying to hold back the inevitable...

Then, with a spring in his step, he begins to systematically search the building, starting with what his opponents had on them, progressing to the general store inventory, and finally searching for any secret doors or hidden caches.

Tyrrol will also cast Detect Magic and scan each room, to assist in the identification of magical items...

Perception: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (19) + 11 = 30.

Maps, etc...

Mordecai and Lothan turn their attention to Crossbow. Although they staunch the bleeding, the half-orc remains somewhat dazed and limp. His eyes don't focus for any length of time and the few words he tries to spit out are incoherent and slurred.

Staff grits his teeth against what must be agony in his leg and awaits his fate. (probably at Kuva's hands)

The half-elf at Wilam's feet asks for help.

Tyrrol begins looking through the shop.

Male Human Druid 3

"Foolish boy, I told you what would happen if you didn't surrender." Wilam says as he looks down at the half elf. Shaking his head he quickly binds the wounds to stop the bleeding.

Examining the job he just did Wilam sighs and calls out to his friends in the front of the house. "Hey, can one of you help stop this idiot from bleeding out? I made a quick tourniquet but I don't know if it is going to hold."

Wilam will then carefully move the half elf to the front of the shop with the rest of the injured.

Lothan, again reluctantly, attempts to see if he can help stop the bleeding.

Heal: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (16) + 8 = 24

"There, that ought to do it." He says out loud, mostly to himself. Then speaking to anyone who's listening, "You know, if we are going to have to keep this up, we really should invest in a healer's kit. It sure would make it a bit easier." He says as he uses a stray cloth to clean some blood off of his hands.

(AC 19, hp 33 of 37) Human Cleric (Urgathoa) 6

Mordecai regards the half-elf with his twisted leg, thinking to himself what a cruel and unforgiving town this is to find oneself a cripple.

He turns to the gnome, Shall we locate anything of value and get the hells out of here, or is theft-by-violence less to your liking than theft-by-swindle?

Despite his words, he's obviously distracted by the wounded man's plight, although, given his demeanor, it comes across as annoyance, not compassion.

Maps, etc...

For clarity, Staff has the badly broken, twisted leg. The half-elf was in the hidey hole; Wilam caught him out back. He was clubbed really hard.

Sliding out from behind the book display case, Getheldam looks about. "Well you all certainly earned your pay with that fracas. You're right, Mordecai. We should liberate what monies we can and flee the scene post haste."

He waves at the half-orc Crossbow, then at Staff, "Grat and Fran here aren't bad sorts as Croat's men go. I don't know the lad out back." He seems utterly unconcerned about their fate.

Tyrrol, I've got to check my notes.

The Exchange

Male Halfing Barbarian 4

"Surrender?" Kuva asks incredulously of the staff fighter. "Say what you will of the maneaters we fought before, but at least they understood the contract of battle." He turns from the wounded man and walks to the dead body, cutting off a piece of cloth. "Unable to kill even one stick-swinger..." he says to himself, apparently besides himself at what he views as incompetence. "I shall make this better upon the island," he says finally.

Approaching the staff fighter one last time, he tries to tie up the leg in some means of setting it.

Heal check - 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4

With a sickening crunch, Kuva pulls the cloth, doing nothing for the leg. He looks for a moment at his handiwork, just feeling tired and peevish in the absence of the red haze of the rage. "Some one else come take care of this priest's work," he says, waving his hands above him in a sign of frustration as he walks away.

(AC 19, hp 33 of 37) Human Cleric (Urgathoa) 6

Mordecai winces at the dangerous little man's attempt at bonesetting. Well, that will certainly help if he wants the leg to fester and require amputation...

He moves over at the mention of 'priests work' and attempts to set the leg, before healing it magically, muttering an incantation to clear his thoughts before he begins his work.

Male Human Druid 3

Wilam scans the room looking at the wounded and the chaos caused by the fight, finally he shakes his head and says. ”Feh! Take what you think is valuable, I will watch these four to make sure none expire or escape and lets be done with this place. I am tired of playing the part of a common thug, it is not why I came to this town.” Then with a few soft words and a couple of quick hand motions Wilam directs Sora to stand by the back door and then turns to look at the front door and windows of the shop.

Wilam sends Sora to guard the back door and then tries to secure the front window and door of the shop. Hopefully there will be curtains he can draw across the window, a sign he could flip to closed, and a way to lock the front door. In general he will do his best to make sure no passersby can look in and see the disturbance. After that he will do a quick inspection of the injured to make sure none are in danger of dying and then stand guard.

Sorry about the delay and the detour this game has taken. Let's get headed back in the direction of the island.

The field is yours. Interrogation of the three prisoners reveals Boss Croat is on to you and future targets will likely be forewarned as Smit was. Getheldam is all for splitting the loot accumulated so far and then splitting the partnership.

Finds -- the three spell books in the glass case. Smit's wand. A wand from the young half-elf. The bayonetted crossbow and the staff. The drawers in the back wall of the shop prove to be lead-lined. In them you find three scrolls and a ring. Any mundane material components you might need are available. As are a handful of garnets, two of which are exceptionally large. One of the drawers holds three small diamonds. Total cash taken from all sources this morning 6000 gp.

Tyrrol :

Spoiler:
the 2 wands, the ring, scrolls, and staff are all magical. There is also magic on two of the spell books. Let me know how deeply you care to delve at this moment.

Number one question from me to you: Is how do you propose to split the loot with Getheldam?

(AC 19, hp 33 of 37) Human Cleric (Urgathoa) 6

"Sounds like we'll need to go to ground until our... ride is leaving." Mordecai says, wiping his bloodied hands distractedly on the tunic of the fallen man who's leg he's just set. Rather skillfully, if I do say so myself. he thinks smugly.

About how long until that happens, anyway? I've lost track of how long we've been at this...

He'll quickly divide the coin loot into two stacks of 3000 gp value, and slide one pile into whatever pouches or coin-purses the fallen men have on them, handing that coin to the gnome.

"Take your split, and get as far from this town as you can. Our partnership is concluded. If I see you again today, you're just a small man with far too much coin weighing him down..."

The second pile, he'll divide into five smaller piles of 600 gp, and distribute among the companions.

Anything that isn't coin, such as the items Tyrrol is currently gazing at with interest, he isn't bothering to appraise, or count.

"Let's find a place to hole up until we leave town. Anyone familiar enough with the seedier side of this rathole to know of a good place to lie low until then?"

He's noticeably avoiding reminding the gnome where or when they'll be leaving, in case the untrustworthy little guy gets captured, or decides to rat them out. He's pretty sure that the gnome already knows, but is trying to not make it fresh in his mind...

Tyrrol will do his best to carefully identify the items...

For the record, he is not opening the spellbooks; he does not want to accidentally set off any firetraps or sepia snake sigils...

A couple of questions: Is the Bayoneted crossbow MW? (If it is, what are its stats?) Are the gems counted in the 'coin total'?

"A tidy little haul. Not as much as I would have hoped, but I doubt we would have an easy time acquiring much more..."
