SD DM |
Mordecai casts his spell enhancing Lothan's sword.
Tyrrol girds himself for battle magically.
Samaritha tries to drag herself away from the wraith, but it flows effortlessly through the floor after her.
Oops. Kuva didn't roll init. 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6
Lothan, then the wraith.
SD DM |
Don't forget the magic weapon Mordecai laid on your sword. Not that it will help that roll.
1d20 + 6 ⇒ (4) + 6 = 10The wraith reaches for Samaritha's throat, but she manages to roll away faster. His long-nailed fingers plunge into the floor.
Lecian, then the top of round two.
SD DM |
Lecian casts his spell.
Initiatives, Round 2
Mordecai, 18
Tyrrol, 17
Samaritha, 13
Lothan, 10
Wraith, 9
Lecian, 7
Tyrrol Radanavich |
Round 2:
40/40, AC 24/13/23, CMD 21, Shield of Faith.
Humming a haunting dirge, Tyrrol charges the Wraith, and takes a swing.
+1 Consecrated Ancestral Heavy Flail: 1d20 + 11 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 11 + 2 = 18, for 1d10 + 14 ⇒ (10) + 14 = 24 Magical Bludgeoning damage.
Lothan Robgard |
Don't think my actions will affect Kuva's or Samaritha's, so will go on ahead.
Lothan takes another swing, hoping he can avoid killing the ground this time.
(Magic Weaponed)Longsword: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (7) + 6 = 13
Damage: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4
Kuva Azul |
Kuva stands on his feet at the sounds of the melee, a savage smile upon his face. "Come, earth-ghost, and face a greater death!," the halfling crows. He charges to attack the creature, releasing a mighty howl from his small frame. His momentum, however, brings him straight past the creature, his falchion swinging wide past the incorporeal form.
Round 1: Stand from prone, draw falchion.
Round 2: Rage, charge, and surprise accuracy! Attack: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (1) + 13 = 14
REALLY??
SD DM |
Kuva misses. Wow.
Mordecai rushes to Samaritha's aid.
Tyrrol advances on the wraith and delivers a crushing blow with his mace. Surprise replaces rage on the wraith's face for just a moment, then it's glaring hate again.
Invigorated by Mordecai's spell, Samaritha tries to scramble away from the wraith.
Lothan steps over the half-elf and delivers a cutting blow, but the wraith, made wary by Tyrrol, ducks into the floor. It emerges a few seconds later on the other side of Samaritha and swipes with phantom claws at her again.
1d20 + 6 ⇒ (18) + 6 = 24 .. damage 2d6 ⇒ (6, 4) = 10 .. Con 2d6 ⇒ (2, 5) = 7
Samaritha screams and continues to retreat.
Lecioan and Kuva, round 2 actions then top of round three.
SD DM |
TOld you in the OOC thread. Kuva would get a round 1 action. COunted the bad attack to that. If you insist, you don't have to go, but I offer you the chance.
Lecian's ray flares against the wraith's side. The apparition turns red and glares at the caster.
SD DM |
Right you are. My bad. Apologies all around. Kuva stands on round 1, misses on round 2.
Top of round 2. Mordecai, etc.
Mordecai |
Mordecai follows Samaritha's retreat, attempting to interpose himself between her and the angry spirit. He activates his wand, attempting to stave off her decline, as he fears that she will rise and join the creature, if it succeeds in devouring her life.
cure light wounds on Samaritha again 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
Tyrrol Radanavich |
Round 3:
40/40, AC 24/13/23, CMD 21, Shield of Faith.
Following up on the success of his last swing, Tyrrol charges the Wraith when it reappears.
+1 Consecrated Ancestral Heavy Flail: 1d20 + 11 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 11 + 2 = 19, for 1d10 + 14 ⇒ (3) + 14 = 17 Magical Bludgeoning damage.
SD DM |
Round three,
Mordecai cures Samaritha.
Tyrrol rocks the wraith with another mighty blow of his flail. The wraith whirls to face him.
Apparently much calmer thanks to Mordecai's aid, Samaritha steps to the side and draws a wand from her sleeve. She points it at the wraith, shreiks, "Gonwera!" and two bolts of force fly at the wraith.
2d4 + 2 ⇒ (1, 1) + 2 = 4
Lothan slices at the wraith from the other side. Like Tyrrol's mace the fighter's sword passes through the wraith without hindrance, but leaves a red trail across its form.
Lecian and Kuva. Then the top of the round.
Dm ref :
Kuva Azul |
Kuva nods at Lecian's words, feeling the magic enhancing his abilities. He draws a deep breath and swings.
Attack: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (8) + 11 = 19
Damage, using Powerful Blow if my attack roll is a hit: 1d6 + 9 ⇒ (1) + 9 = 10
That is it, I am retiring these dice codes. Can't roll me anything useful!
Tyrrol Radanavich |
Round 4:
40/40, AC 24/13/23, CMD 21, Shield of Faith.
Acting as if he barely notices the wraith's hate-filled gaze, Tyrrol lines it up for a another swing with his flail, adjusting for a flank...
+1 Consecrated Ancestral Heavy Flail: 1d20 + 11 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 11 + 2 = 18, for 1d10 + 14 ⇒ (7) + 14 = 21 Magical Bludgeoning damage.
SD DM |
Kuva's falchion carves a red slice through the apparition.
Hey it was good enough to score some damage. Mordecai....
Mordecai |
At the moment, Samaritha still appears to be the one most in need of bolstering, so Mordecai continues to heal her, determined that *this* mage isn't going to die, like the one's in the tower. It's become a point of pride. Death comes on his terms, or not at all!
wand of cure light wounds on Samaritha 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 1 = 9
SD DM |
Samaritha looks whole, but not well after Mordecai's cure spell.
Tyrrol's mace rips through the wraith, flushing it crimson, and smashes heavily against the floor. It rebounds amidst a flurry of stone chips.
Samaritha sends another pair of magic bolts at the wraith. 2d4 + 2 ⇒ (3, 1) + 2 = 6
Lothan
SD DM |
Lothan swings wide and the wraith dives beneath the floor.
Meanwhile the sky dims as the sun sinks ever farther below the horizon.
SD DM |
Cue Jaws soundtrack.
Lecian, your awesome sense motive modifier nets you this:
Kuva Azul |
"The only running a warrior does is to his enemy's doorstep," the fiery halfling says dismissively. "Perhaps they train spellslingers differently."
Amirite?
Out of character, though, I understand if the party wants to stop scrapping with an incorporeal beastie - I'm just roleplaying my suicidally incautious character to the hilt.
SD DM |
The wraith flits briefly into view in the gloomiest part of the room, then passes into the wall. It appears a few seconds later to the left and slides back into the stone face. It's obviously looking for a weakness to exploit.
Just making sure your plan is to wait passively for the wraith to choose its moment to strike.
Nice quote, Kuva.
Mordecai |
"Everyone keep your eyes open and weapons readied. It can come from any wall, or from the very ground beneath our feet, and we may have only a moment to strike it."
To Samaritha, he adds, "I have heard of some undead that are bound to locations, but this is no tomb-bound mummy, so there might be no point to attempting to run from a tireless foe that can swim beneath the ground, unhindered by terrain or darkness, striking us down one by one as we flee."
Mordecai activates his wand of cure light wounds another time as he speaks, and 'holds the charge,' intending to touch the creature if it comes within arm's length of him, and give it a taste of positive energy.
Ready action to zap the ghosty, if it comes close enough for him to step and zap.
SD DM |
The wraith shows itself, once, twice, then disappears again for a few long moments. Suddenly it pops up between Lothan and Samaritha and reaches for the half-elf mage again.
1d8 ⇒ 8
New intiatives: Lothan gets +2 for geography. Mordecai gets +2 for having a plan.
Samaritha: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
Wraith: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (15) + 7 = 22
Tyrrol Radanavich |
Initiative: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2, 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (17) + 1 = 18. I will take the 18 :-)
'Round 1':
40/40, AC 24/13/23, CMD 21, Shield of Faith.
Tyrrol rushes forward, and takes another swing at the wraith!
+1 Consecrated Ancestral Heavy Flail: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (11) + 11 = 22, for 1d10 + 14 ⇒ (1) + 14 = 15 Magical Bludgeoning damage.
Lecian |
Initiative: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (20) + 3 = 23
Lecian predicts perfectly the wraith's next movement, reacting instantly and shooting at it with another beam of positive energy.
Attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (20) + 4 = 24
Damage: 1d6 ⇒ 3
Critical:
Attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (16) + 4 = 20
Damage:1d6 ⇒ 3
SD DM |
As the wraith draws back its hand to slash Samaritha's calf, Lecian's energy beam turns the entire apparition red. It fades to pink, then it's clearly gone.
Thus ends my bid to create a new wraith minion. Well done. Another blow might have killed her on Con damage.
Mordecai |
Mordecai wracks his brain to try and figure out if this is the sort of undead creature that reforms the next night...
Knowledge (religion) 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 5 = 8
He shakes his head, having concluded that it might have been a haunt or something and not undead at all.
"Does anyone require healing before I retire?" he says, absently, the positives energies of that last cure light wounds still glimmering at the tip of his wand, waiting to be discharged.
SD DM |
Samaritha doesn't look in the peak of health, but there's not a wound on her. Her wound goes all the way to her bones.
Lothan Robgard |
Extremely worried about Samaritha, Lothan moves over to help her. "You do not look well at all. Here, let me help you sit so you can rest." As he does, "Hey Mordecai, you got anything that might help Samaritha here? I don't see a wound on her but she looks near death anyway."
Lothan Robgard |
"Thanks Mordecai." He tells him as he turns back to Samaritha. "Let me grab you a blanket." He then scrounges up a blanket for her to use. "This ought to do." He helps her get comfy. "Alright now, just do like Mordecai said and get you some rest. And don't you worry about nothing. We'll watch over you." He tells her with a weary smile as he gives her a wink.
