Maps, etc...

Not waiting on you in particular. Work turned busy this week. Despite that I feel I've owed you all a post for too long, so ...

Kuva dodges back toward Mordecai. His falchion cleaves the head from one of the beasts and it tumbles into a slide toward the cleric, halting at his feet. I can't wait til you hit 6th level and get another attack.

The creature Kuva had previously injured stumbles and drops to the ground, unmoving. Errata, it went down between Kuva and Mordecai's attacks.

First wave, Ground floor: With wide jaws the lead creature leaps for Mordecai's throat.

Bite 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (16) + 2 = 18 .. damage 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7
Tendril 1d20 - 3 ⇒ (19) - 3 = 16 .. damage 1d3 ⇒ 1
Tendril 1d20 - 3 ⇒ (13) - 3 = 10 .. damage 1d3 ⇒ 2
if the bite hits: Fort DC 12 or take 1d3 ⇒ 2Con and 1d3 ⇒ 3Dex damage

First wave second floor. In Lecian's absence both Akatas turn on the bravest Cyphermage.

Bite 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (12) + 2 = 14 .. damage 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6
Tendril 1d20 - 3 ⇒ (1) - 3 = -2 .. damage 1d3 ⇒ 1
Tendril 1d20 - 3 ⇒ (1) - 3 = -2 .. damage 1d3 ⇒ 1
if the bite hits: Fort DC 12 or take 1d3 ⇒ 1Con and 1d3 ⇒ 2Dex damage

Bite 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (9) + 2 = 11 .. damage 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3
Tendril 1d20 - 3 ⇒ (3) - 3 = 0 .. damage 1d3 ⇒ 2
Tendril 1d20 - 3 ⇒ (6) - 3 = 3 .. damage 1d3 ⇒ 3
if the bite hits: Fort DC 12 or take 1d3 ⇒ 3Con and 1d3 ⇒ 1Dex damage

She goes down, screaming soundlessly.

First wave, top floor:

Climbing Akata 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (12) + 9 = 21
Climbing Akata 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (15) + 9 = 24

The Akatas have trouble gaining clawholds and are momentarily stalled.

Round three. In process:

Kuva 22, ground floor gone
Akatas 1st Wave 22, ground floor (1, down 3hp), Second floor (2, one wounded) and 2 climbing to roof, one wounded.
Mordecai 17, ground floor
Akatas 2nd Wave 15 ground floor (4 coming from outside) and second floor (2 outside waiting to enter through broken window)
Lecian 14, withdraws to ground floor,
Lothan 11, top (4th) floor
Tyrrol 9, 2nd floor
Gep 2, top
Samarintha and cyphermages 2, 2nd floor

Maps, etc...

Or maybe two posts. There's a lot going on.

Given the nature of this battle, I'm going to give you the AC of the Akatas So you may better describe your kills. AC 13, touch 12, flat footed 11. They have 11 hp.

Akata attack reference:

Spoiler:
Bite ['dice]1d20+2[/dice] .. damage ['dice]1d6+1[/dice]
Tendril ['dice]1d20-3[/dice] .. damage ['dice]1d3[/dice]
Tendril ['dice]1d20-3[/dice] .. damage ['dice]1d3[/dice]
if the bite hits: Fort DC 12 or take ['dice]1d3[/dice]Con and ['dice]1d3[/dice]Dex damage
Climbing Akata 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (18) + 9 = 27

Set, sure you can channel defnesively. +2 AC, DC 12 chance of failure. You only fail you don't lose the channel. You're up. Are you channeling again?

Lothan, nice dialogue. What is your action?

I'll go ahead and describe the second floor since it won't affect anyone except Tyrrol.

Two more Akatas wriggle through the window and bound past the dead woman. One attacks the cowardly Cyphermage.

Bite 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4 .. damage 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2
Tendril 1d20 - 3 ⇒ (18) - 3 = 15 .. damage 1d3 ⇒ 2
Tendril 1d20 - 3 ⇒ (8) - 3 = 5 .. damage 1d3 ⇒ 1
if the bite hits: Fort DC 12 or take 1d3 ⇒ 1Con and 1d3 ⇒ 1Dex damage

He dodges the bite but one of the tendrils rubs across his bare skin and he cries in pain and jerks back.

The other turns and springs up the stairs only to be met by Tyrrol's descending mace. The mace crushes the creatures face and it tumbles back down the stairs and lands atop the fallen Cyphermage.

Samarintha floats above the fight below. She pulls out a wand. Has yet to really go this round.

(AC 19, hp 33 of 37) Human Cleric (Urgathoa) 6

Taking a more defensive stance, and noting to exclude both Kuva and now Lecian from the effect, Mordecai calls upon Urgathoa's hunger again.

Conncentration check to channel defensively 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (17) + 5 = 22
Negative energy damage, Will DC 14 halves 2d6 ⇒ (1, 2) = 3

Awesome. Two rolls, and still haven't reached average damage for one roll...

Male Aasimar (Plumekith) Occultist (Psychodermist/Reliquarian) (AC 25/17/20; HP 52/52; Fort +9, Ref +10, Will +8; Init +8, Perception +17, CMD 22)

Round 3:

Humming a cheerful little ditty that is quite at odds with the current situation, Tyrrol moves forward past the corpse of the creature he just dispatched, to focus on the remaining one on this level...

+1 Consecrated Ancestral Heavy Flail: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (15) + 9 = 24, for 1d10 + 10 ⇒ (5) + 10 = 15 Magical Bludgeoning damage.

...his flail makes a satisfying crunching sound as it crushes the skull of another one of the creatures.

He then turns to regard the frightened mage.

in Aklo:
Go cower in a corner, whilst we finish them off...

Male Half-Elf Slayer 15th; Hp's 127/127; Perc: 35; AC 27/touch 16/FF 21, CMD: 32, Fort: +14/Ref: +18/Will: +12

Sorry. Wasn't sure if it was my turn or not. Didn't want to jump the gun.

Leaning out the window, he fires another arrow at one that's already been hit.
At least I think one of them still has an arrow in it. If not, just pick one.

Mwk. Longbow, Comp (Str +1) w/DA: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (19) + 6 = 25
Damage w/DA: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (7) + 3 = 10

"Heck yeah! Take that you filthy wall-crawlers!" He screams in success.

Male Human Diviner Wizard 6

Lecian fires a bolt at the nearest akata.

Attack: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (17) + 6 = 23
Damage: 1d8 ⇒ 8

Is there a clear path to the front door?

Maps, etc...

Round 3 Resolution:
First floor :

Mordecai's dark energy eddies clear of Kuva and Lecian as it surges through the first floor again. Again the creatures pause momentarily in pain and confusion, then continue coming.

One creature leaps for Lecian. As it touches him, he feels a sudden chill, and everything goes quiet. No sound at all, not from Kuva's blade, nor his yell, nor even from Lecian's own heartbeat.

Bite 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (20) + 2 = 22 .. damage 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3
Tendril 1d20 - 3 ⇒ (16) - 3 = 13 .. damage 1d3 ⇒ 3
Tendril 1d20 - 3 ⇒ (3) - 3 = 0 .. damage 1d3 ⇒ 1
if the bite hits: Fort DC 12 or take 1d3 ⇒ 3Con and 1d3 ⇒ 3Dex damage

Halted by Kuva's whirling blade, two engage the halfling.

Bite 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (12) + 2 = 14 .. damage 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2
Tendril 1d20 - 3 ⇒ (6) - 3 = 3 .. damage 1d3 ⇒ 2
Tendril 1d20 - 3 ⇒ (19) - 3 = 16 .. damage 1d3 ⇒ 2
if the bite hits: Fort DC 12 or take 1d3 ⇒ 3Con and 1d3 ⇒ 1Dex damage

Bite 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (18) + 2 = 20 .. damage 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6
Tendril 1d20 - 3 ⇒ (15) - 3 = 12 .. damage 1d3 ⇒ 2
Tendril 1d20 - 3 ⇒ (9) - 3 = 6 .. damage 1d3 ⇒ 2
if the bite hits: Fort DC 12 or take 1d3 ⇒ 1Con and 1d3 ⇒ 1Dex damage

One however leaps onto the wall beside the halfing's head and rebounds toward the cleric on the stairs. Kuva does get an AoO on this Akata. If you put it down Mordecai will not suffer the following:

The creature lunges at Mordecai, jaws snapping.

Bite 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (20) + 2 = 22 .. damage 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3
Tendril 1d20 - 3 ⇒ (3) - 3 = 0 .. damage 1d3 ⇒ 3
Tendril 1d20 - 3 ⇒ (20) - 3 = 17 .. damage 1d3 ⇒ 1
if the bite hits: Fort DC 12 or take 1d3 ⇒ 1Con and 1d3 ⇒ 1Dex damage

Lecian fires his crossbow at the lead Akata. The bolt strikes the weakened beast and it collapses. Normally withdrawal is a full round action, but since the distance down the stairs is short, i'll let you make the attack.

Second floor

The two creatures outside scramble in the window. The second starts to slide backward, then its claws catch and it starts to haul itself in. Tyrrol just has time to step forward and catapult it back out the window with his mace. You'd already gone for round 3, so we'll take that last roll as your AoO.

Samarintha points and shoots the wand at the first Akata through the window. Two glowing green balls of force zip toward the Akata. The balls shatter into mist on contact. "D___ it! " the cyphermage swears.

SR roll: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9.. damage 2d4 ⇒ (2, 2) = 4
These things have spell resistance 15. With the silence effect they are real mage-killers.

Fourth(top) floor:
Lothan's arrow strikes his target between shoulder and breastbone. Its tendril mane lashes back toward the archer as the body falls nervelessly down the tower.

Gep gets his crossbow reloaded and fires at the other.

Crossbow 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 2 = 9 .. damage 1d6 ⇒ 1

New post to follow with the top of round four.

Maps, etc...

Round Four. Beginning

Third wave 1d20 ⇒ 15

Kuva 22, ground floor
Akatas 1st Wave 22, Second floor ( one, wounded, attacking Cyphermage) and 1 climbing to roof.
Mordecai 17, ground floor
Akatas 2nd Wave and Third Wave 15, ground floor (1 on Lecian, 2 on Kuva, maybe 1 on Mordecai depending on Kuva's AoO all wounded by Mordecai) and second floor (one v. Tyrrol). Third wave four fresh Akata's entering.
Lecian 14, ground floor,
Lothan 11, top (4th) floor
Tyrrol 9, 2nd floor
Gep 2, top
Samarintha and cyphermages 1, 2nd floor

Lecian's triumph is short-lived as he looks up to see four new Akatas entering the room. Another know of the strange beasts is behind them.

The tower lurches out over the cliff again, this time it continues to tip. There is a tremendous cracking sound as the mortar between the entryway and the tower proper surrenders to the stress. The tower drops onto the sloping face of the cliff. Its base strikes with a grind and everything inside goes flying as the top of the tower levers downward. Rents appear in the walls and dust flies as the top contacts the slope. The tower begins rolling down the slope.

For the initial strike -- first floor DC 10 reflex save or take 1d6 points of damage. Second floor, DC 11 or 2d6. Top floor DC 13 or 4d6.

From the window, Lothan can see the nearest Akata get flung into space. The overhanging edge of the cliff crumbles and a large portion flows after the tower in a landslide. At least two Akatas near the edge are dragged into the roil of stones, dirt and rocks following the tower downward.

This is going to change the playing field quite a bit. Everything inside is flying around. You've got a couple choices for general strategy each round--

  • try to ride it out
  • brace yourself to avoid damage in the roll to follow
  • escape, if given opportunity.
really good brace or ride checks will allow you opportunity to attack.

Round 4 falling status next post.

Maps, etc...

Round 4 status:

Lecian 1d20 ⇒ 9 ; 1d7 ⇒ 4 Ride mode. DC 15 Balance or Tumble Check. An Akata passes nearby. You may attack if you rolled 17 or better on your check.
Mordecai 1d20 ⇒ 17 Ride (DC 15 Balance or Tumble) or Brace by grabbing the stairway bannister.(DC 15 Climb)
Lothan 1d20 ⇒ 18 Ride (DC 15 Balance or Tumble) or Escape through the window.(DC 15 Jump) Successful escape will present its own hazards.
Kuva Azul 1d20 ⇒ 8 1d7 ⇒ 6Ride mode. DC 15 Balance or Tumble Check. An Akata passes nearby. You may attack if you rolled 17 or better on your check.
Tyrrol Radanavich 1d20 ⇒ 7 1d4 ⇒ 3Ride mode. DC 15 Balance or Tumble Check. The cowardly Cyphermage passes nearby. You may attempt to grab him with a DC 14 strength check if you wish.

Male Half-Elf Slayer 15th; Hp's 127/127; Perc: 35; AC 27/touch 16/FF 21, CMD: 32, Fort: +14/Ref: +18/Will: +12

As the tower rips itself from the ground, Lothan tries to keep his balance. "Oh crap." Reflex: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (3) + 6 = 9 Damage: 4d6 ⇒ (4, 6, 6, 6) = 22

Un-freaking-believable! I sat there and was talking to my wife and I said, "You watch, I just bet I'm gonna roll some massive damage." Why did I say that, because the dice roller is out to destroy me, that's why. AARGH! (BTW, if I was rolling up a character using this method, NO. FREAKING. Way I get 3 sixes out of 4. NO. WAY.)

Slamming his head against the side of the wall as he goes flying, Lothan screams in pain as blood flows freely, covering his face. "Looks like we're in big trouble Gep." He says through pained gasps.

Acrobatics: (Ride it out) 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (11) + 4 = 15

Oh. I see. Now it's just toying with me.

(AC 19, hp 33 of 37) Human Cleric (Urgathoa) 6

DC 12 Fort save vs. bite, if Kuva doesn't kill it with an AoO. 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5

Ooh, fifth roll in a row that was a 2 or less. Cancel trip to Vegas, stat!

He then attempts to brace himself, to avoid tumbling about, roaring out in a guttural cry to the remaining Akata (who can't hear him, but he doesn't know that...) "I. Will Not... Be EATEN!"

DC 15 climb check 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 1 = 9

And attempts to escape injury.

DC 10 Reflex save 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (19) + 2 = 21
damage if failed 1d6 ⇒ 6

He tumbles and pirouttes gracelessly, appearing completely out of control, and head-sized chunks of masonry fly past him on both sides, as if he elegantly planned the precise movements needed to thread this needle and escape injury. Only the greenish cast to his features, his flailing limbs and his wide owlish eyes betray that this was not intentional...

Either Tuesday or Wednesday I'm going to be kidnapped to help my mom with a craft fair, and I probably won't be released from servitude until the following Tuesday. In the wild northlands of New Hampshire, I have no idea if I'll be able to access the internet, without some sort of cow-based technology...

So, if not able to post, feel free to run Mordecai's actions. Mordecai's been waiting for this moment all his life, when he could blast an entire room full of things to death with channeled negative energy, and if he could roll *average*, he might have killed them all by now! His dream is to stabilize himself so that he can channel again, and kill these things. His ultimate dream is to not get eaten by anything, since, in the church of Urgathoa, eating that which opposes you is a holy ritual of victory over life itself, and getting eaten is the ultimate failure!

"I. Will not... Be EATEN!" seemed like a better battle-cry than 'Git in mah belly!'

Male Halfing Barbarian 4

This is going to take some epic posting...

As the akatas surround the fierce halfling, Kuva battles bravely, his sword forming a net of steel which he hides behind. A silent roar covers his face as he hesitates half of a moment too long and one of the beast slips by his defenses, tearing into his flesh with it's teeth.

Fort save (with +2 from raging): 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (2) + 7 = 9 and at 27 hp (+6 from raging, -3 from con damage), and -1 to all dex and con things with that failure

As he grimaces against the pain and the poison coursing through him, he sees the foolishly brave akata leaping past him on the wall and swings with a savage accuracy.

Attack, using Surprise Accuracy for +1: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (17) + 9 = 26
Damage: 1d6 + 7 ⇒ (5) + 7 = 12

Then comes the dodging...
Reflex check: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (19) + 6 = 25 -1 for dex damage
Acrobatics check: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (17) + 12 = 29 -1 for dex damage
...But kicking ass anyways

As the tower suddenly gives way, Kuva is forced to defend himself from not only the akatas, but from the chunks of building that now rain upon him as well. He twists and turns as best he can, nimbly dodging the rain of masonry while falling. Seeing an akata similarly ensnared by gravity, he lashes out with his falchion. As the blade soundlessly gashes the creature, Kuva gives a savage and exuberant cry. "Even in the air I shall outdance you, creatures!" he yells. "Come to me and dance your last!"

Attack: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (7) + 8 = 15
Damage: 1d6 + 7 ⇒ (2) + 7 = 9

Reflex: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (13) + 4 = 17, Damage: 1d6 ⇒ 2
Acrobatics: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4

As the tower tips over, Lecian prepares himself for impact, where he nimbly tumbles forward, rolling onto one knee and then standing unscathed. Unfortunately, he looses his sense of equilibrium and flops about uncontrollably as the tower rolls down the slope.

Male Aasimar (Plumekith) Occultist (Psychodermist/Reliquarian) (AC 25/17/20; HP 52/52; Fort +9, Ref +10, Will +8; Init +8, Perception +17, CMD 22)

Muttering darkly to himself, Tyrrol does his best to ride-out the storm...

Acrobatics: 1d20 - 4 ⇒ (4) - 4 = 0.

Seeing one of the Cyphermages tumble past, he does his best to grab him, trying to protect him from the worst of the damage...

Strength check: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (14) + 4 = 18.

Maps, etc...

Left over from Round 3 -- Kuva's hanging AoO cuts the Akata in twain, saving Mordecai much grief.

Round 4, tower rolling:

After the initial impact, Lothan recovers and stumbles along with the motion of the tower.

Gep .... 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (13) + 1 = 14 .. damage 4d6 ⇒ (1, 3, 6, 6) = 16 ... runs up the wall as the tower falls, managing to avoid hurting himself in the impact. Finding himself near a window he tries to jump clear, 1d20 ⇒ 13v DC 15 but misjudges his lead and rebounds off the edge of the window. He tumbles back into the tower, nearly colliding with Lothan ... 1d6 ⇒ 2 lands awkwardly on his shoulder and cries out in pain.

Tyrrol initial fall damage 2d6 ⇒ (6, 5) = 11... smashes his knee and head against the wall in the tower's initial drop. Somehow he manages to retain his senses and grabs the tumbling Cyphermage.

Spoiler:
[ooc] You and he get +4 on your brace, ride or escape checks next round.

As the tower comes down, Samarintha 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (14) + 2 = 16 .. damage 2d6 ⇒ (5, 1) = 6lucks out. Her levitation allows her to ward off a heavy impact with the ceiling with her arms and she's able to float to the center of the room where she sits calmly in the eye of the rolling storm around her.

One of the Akatas 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4 .. damage 2d6 ⇒ (5, 4) = 9, pitches across the full width of the room, smashing awkwardly into the far wall, riding up and falling again as it nears the top of the roll. The other 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (14) + 2 = 16 .. damage 2d6 ⇒ (1, 4) = 5 moves fluidly , bounding along the walls. 1d20 ⇒ 5

Unable to grab the ring, Mordecai spins in midair when a chunk of something hard clips his leg. 1d6 ⇒ 5 Damage for failing to brace.

Lecian also gets hit, ironically, by a spell book. 1d6 ⇒ 3 Damage for failing to ride.

The Akatas
1d20 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 2 = 10 .. 1d6 ⇒ 4
1d20 + 2 ⇒ (15) + 2 = 17 .. 1d6 ⇒ 6
1d20 + 2 ⇒ (9) + 2 = 11 .. 1d6 ⇒ 3
1d20 + 2 ⇒ (16) + 2 = 18 .. 1d6 ⇒ 4
1d20 + 2 ⇒ (9) + 2 = 11 .. 1d6 ⇒ 6
1d20 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7 .. 1d6 ⇒ 1
1d20 + 2 ⇒ (9) + 2 = 11 .. 1d6 ⇒ 5

6d20 ⇒ (6, 19, 16, 8, 8, 5) = 62
1d10 ⇒ 10 .. 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (2) + 7 = 9 .. 1d6 ⇒ 2
1d20 + 7 ⇒ (1) + 7 = 8.. 1d6 ⇒ 4
1d20 + 7 ⇒ (17) + 7 = 24.. 1d6 ⇒ 3
1d10 ⇒ 1 .. 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (13) + 7 = 20 .. 1d6 ⇒ 1
1d10 ⇒ 10 .. 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (16) + 7 = 23 .. 1d6 ⇒ 3
1d20 + 7 ⇒ (18) + 7 = 25 .. 1d6 ⇒ 5

The three creatures engaged in melee fair badly. As the tower falls they spring away, but land awkwardly or even violently. The four fresh Akatas fair better. They stumble with the first lurching drop, but recover and race along the rolling wall.

Maps, etc...

WOrk is socking me agin. Probably Tues before I can really post. I'll try to resolve the current round before then if I can. Great descriptions of the action by you guys.

Maps, etc...

ROund 5 round up:

First floor:
Mordecai and Lecian stumble, but fall with the roll of the tower and hurt themselves very little. Kuva dances but misses his "partner."

Second floor:

Tyrrol and the Cyphermage fall into a tight corner between the wall and the stairway. Tyrrol hits the wall first and the cyphermage barrels into his back, slamming his chest and face against the smooth stone, holding him there just long enough for the oracle to get a grip. Then the Cyphermage falls nervelessly away. Turning Tyrrol can see Samarintha fending off the other mage while she continues to float at the center of the room. The Cyphermage slams into the floor, begins to ride up the side with the roll and becomes airborne in a low trajectory across the revolving room.

Fourth floor: Lothan grabs one of the roof beams and twists himself so that he can lodge a foot against a window sill. The position leaves him staring into the splintering wood planking of the ceiling.

Work suckage continues so badly that I see little advantage in continuing to totally sacrifice playing. Next post the Akatas.

Maps, etc...

Round 5 the Akatas :

Second floor:
The remaining Akata bounds nimbly along the wall, dodging debris and Cyphermage bodies.

1d20 ⇒ 16
1d20 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8

First floor:

1d20 ⇒ 6..1d20 ⇒ 13..1d20 ⇒ 4..1d20 ⇒ 3

The downward momentum of the tower is momentarily checked. There's a loud CRACK!! and a foot wide fissure opens in the wall as the tower plunges again. A shrapnel-like cloud of stone chips flies across the room.

The four Akatas charge along the wall.
1d20 + 2 ⇒ (15) + 2 = 17 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (20) + 2 = 22 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (14) + 2 = 16 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (10) + 2 = 12
They weave between the other Akata bodies and wide of Kuva. Chips from the crack strike one of the Akatas. Distracted, it loses its footing and trips. 1d6 ⇒ 6 It crashes heavily into the stairs near Mordecai.

Maps, etc...

Round 6!!

Suddenly snapping stone thunders as the tower stops suddenly pitching everyone downward. A splashing gurgle turns into a torrent of salt water flooding into the tower from door, windows, fissure, and the huge rent in the third floor where the tower snaps in half.

Everyone take 2d6 of damage. DC 15 reflex for half. Tyrrol and Lothan (braced people) may make a DC 15 climb check for half damage instead of the reflex save if they choose.

Akatas getting hosed:

2nd floor : 2d6 ⇒ (4, 6) = 10

First floor: 2d6 ⇒ (3, 3) = 6, 2d6 ⇒ (3, 4) = 7, 2d6 ⇒ (3, 3) = 6, 2d6 ⇒ (2, 3) = 5

Let's have a reset of initiatives.

Akatas: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (16) + 2 = 18

If your new initiative is higher go ahead and post your round 6 actions in addition to taking your lumps. Else, take your lumps and wait for slavering jawed death.

With the impact of the tower, Lothan gets thrown. Oh crap. Was his last thought as he yet again slams into the other side of the tower. Unfortunately for Lothan, it is too much to overcome as darkness overtakes him.

Hp's -2

Intiative: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 5 = 8 Don't really think this is necessary, but, there you go. :)

damage: 2d6 ⇒ (3, 6) = 9*0.5 = 4.

Braced against the wall, Tyrrol groans as the tower slams into the ground, causing his head to snap back and hit one of the walls.

Initiative: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (18) + 1 = 19.
Initiative: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (11) + 1 = 12.

Hmmm... I will keep the 19.

Gathering his wits, Tyrrol falls upon the remaining Akata on his level of the tower!

+1 Consecrated Ancestral Heavy Flail: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (4) + 9 = 13, for 1d10 + 10 ⇒ (9) + 10 = 19 Magical Bludgeoning damage.

Man, I'm really glad that this Dex damage is being counteracted by these die rolls.

Kuva falls gracelessly at the impact, but still dodges the worst of the rain of shrapnel. Soaking wet, bleeding from multiple places, he gives another wordless yell and swings with all his might at the nearest akata, but his blinding bloodrage causes the swing to go wide.

Again, stumbling with an uncanny drunken grace, Mordecai seems to almost walk on flying bits of masonry, crossing the room like a wild acrobat. He lands with a thump against the wall, which momentarily knocks the breath out of him, and his frail health seems to be taking its toll as he looks increasingly battered.

Initiative 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 1 = 9

After the creatures make their next assault, if he's still 'up,' he'll attempt to Channel Energy again, excluding Kuva and Lecian from the field of life-draining energy.

negative energy damage, Will DC 14 for half 2d6 ⇒ (2, 2) = 4

Oh. Em. Gee. My dice rolling is like a Greek tragedy, without the fun incest parts.

Male Human Diviner Wizard 6

The impact causes Lecian to flop around the tower like like a rag doll. Still, he's able to steady himself, only mildly injured.

Damage: 2d6 ⇒ (3, 5) = 8
Reflex: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (9) + 4 = 13
Initiative: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (9) + 3 = 12

Maps, etc...

Round 6 continued:
Initiative and location:

Kuva, 20, 1st floor

Tyrrol , 19, second floor
Samarintha, 1d20 ⇒ 20, second floor delays to 18

Akatas, 18, 1 on second floor, 3 on first floor

Lecian, 12, 1st floor
Mordecai, 9 , 1st floor

Lothan, 8, bleeding out on fourth floor

Lothan lands on his back with his head a foot or so above the water. The timber roof is gone and stark sunlight shines on his face. He can see a dozen Akatas lining the clifftop 80' above as he lies helplessly bleeding out while the water rises.

Samarintha stares in shock while Tyrrol strikes the silently thrashing Akata. Its struggles are more frenetic than you'd expect of an animal trying to swim and it is too distracted to even attempt to dodge his mace. She drops into the water and struggles toward the bodies of the Cyphermages.

Surging water and floating debris make movement difficult, particularly for the short halfling. Kuva's formerly infallible falchion strikes only water.

The first floor Akatas splash violently trying to get out of the water. Their tentacle manes writhe. Their limbs seem to flail blindly without real control.

Lecian and Mordecai, as do Tyrrol and Kuva, realize that the seawater is hurting them. It seems to be eating the flesh from their bones like acid.

Akatas in saltwater 4d6 ⇒ (4, 1, 2, 4) = 11.

One by one their struggles cease and their bones fizz and bubble as they sink and are also consumed.

Mordecai saves his neg energy. OMG I love playing with you, Set.

A floating spellbook bumps Lecian's waist.

Maps, etc...

[ooc] Amend this line, "Lecian and Mordecai, as do Tyrrol and Kuva, realize that the seawater is hurting them. It seems to be eating the flesh from their bones like acid." to read, "Lecian and Mordecai, as do Tyrrol and Kuva, realize that the seawater is hurting the creatures. It seems to be eating the flesh from their bones like acid.

(AC 19, hp 33 of 37) Human Cleric (Urgathoa) 6

Mordecai freezes for a moment, waiting for the tower to start falling again, convinced that this is just some brief surreal respite in the ongoing craziness, before regaining his composure and looking to see that Kuva and Lecian are both still on their feet, even if the sight of them standing on a wall, with floor to one side and ceiling to another leaves him disoriented as his brain struggles with the wrongness of the current tableau.

He puts his hand on the 'wall' (formerly the ceiling), and attempts to walk his way along the wrongly angled steps beneath the brackish and befouled seawater that covers the 'floor,' towards the room to his right, which was, only moments before 'the second floor.'

Does anyone require healing? he calls out, perversely pleased that his voice sounds strong and confident, and doesn't betray how close he is to shrieking panicky obscenities to the sky.

The Exchange

Male Halfing Barbarian 4

Kuva grins wildly, chest heaving as he intakes deep breath after deep breath. "Not as much as the blue beasts do," he says, sounding all too pleased with himself. "A battle for the Pasha to request in her gilded palace for her chained singer-slave to perform!"

Fatigued for a little bit, if battle breaks out again immediately - 3 rounds of rage left for today.

Maps, etc...

The lower portion of the tower subsides and rolls slowly until it is roughly half full and the first floor stairway is positioned so that you must swim down the stairs to get to the old second floor. The water is just less than 10' at its deepest.

This leaves the second floor with a scant foot of air space between the water surface and the wall which bisects that level. The door into the other room has become a trap door in the "ceiling". At its deepest the water here is about 8'. Again you must swim downward to take the stairs to the third floor.

The tower snapped in half on the third floor. There is 15' gap of deep water between the upper and lower tower halves. Looking around you can see that the lower tower lies roughly parallel to the rocky shore.

The fourth floor lies pointed back up the slope of the cliff. Its timber roof has been ripped away. The water laps at the lower edges of the nearer windows and the fourth floor is still grinding slowly downward.

On the second floor Samarintha quickly examines and abandons the Cyphermage bodies. Looking at Tyrrol she says, "What about the others?"

DC 12 swim checks to move between rooms or to the upper floor.

Kuva stands for a moment to catch his breath, idly watching Mordecai trying to swim in the water. "Tempting the fickle love of the water by immersing yourself in it is an easy way to awaken it's wrath, god-servant," the barbarian says. He looks about him for another way out of the chamber.

Kuva does not like water. Is there another way for him to get out of the first floor?

Also, not going to be able to reach a computer before Saturday - so if I'm slowing things down with my absence, please GMPC me.

Maps, etc...

There is a crack in the "ceiling" overhead that looks large enough to get out.

DC 20 Climb check to reach it. And another Climb check or escape artist DC 15 to wriggle out. Kuva gets +4 for size to the escape artist check.

(AC 19, hp 33 of 37) Human Cleric (Urgathoa) 6

His attempt to swim proving to be nothing more than a source of halfling amusement, Mordecai instead braces himself next to Kuva and places his shield in such a way that the small warrior can stand atop it and access the crack in the 'ceiling,' perhaps sparing him the inconvenience of having to climb these sodden and crumbling walls.

He won't just pick him up like a child and hold him in place, since that seems like a good way to lose some fingers... :)

Male Aasimar (Plumekith) Occultist (Psychodermist/Reliquarian) (AC 25/17/20; HP 52/52; Fort +9, Ref +10, Will +8; Init +8, Perception +17, CMD 22)

Tyrrol regards Samaritha curiously.

"If it is the will of the Gods, they will have made it out safely; I can certainly hear someone splashing around in the tower 'below' us. For the moment, we should concentrate on getting out of the tower ourselves, and possibly seeing if any of the people on the 'top' floor still live..."

Climb (out a window?): 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (15) + 5 = 20.
Swim: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (12) - 1 = 11.

Male Human Diviner Wizard 6

"Huh..." Lecian mumbles at the spellbook in the water, before grabbing it and examining it's exterior.

Maps, etc...

Top floor: Lothan bleeds out peacefully. -1 hp.

Second floor: Samarintha stares back at Tyrrol. His plan is pragmatic. "OK. Let's get out of here. Then we look for the others."

She watches him scramble to the window edge and wriggle out.

Then she tries to follow suit. 1d20 - 2 ⇒ (13) - 2 = 11 She pulls herself a few feet out of the water, but when she reaches for the edge of the window, she falls back in. "Don't worry about me! I'll get out on my own. Check the others."

Outside Tyrrol can see that a narrow spit of water separates the tower from a steep shoreline composed of loose dirt, uprooted plants, and stones. It looks like the tower brought a small avalanche down the slope. Gazing at the crest he sees the cleft where the tower once stood and the deep undercut to either side. It would appear that years of erosion had undermined the tower and you all were in the wrong place at the wrong time. A dozen of the silent leonine creatures line the cliff edge, looking down.

Glancing to the left the oracle sees an arm extended out a fourth floor window floating motionlessly. Looking to the right ...

Kuva the scapegoat: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (11) + 8 = 19

Tyrrol sees a pair of small hands appear on the edges of a fissure in the stone wall of the tower. The hands are followed shortly by Kuva's head and shoulders as the halfling pulls himself effortlessly up and out of the tower.

From Mordecai's viewpoint Kuva's ascent is effortfull. The halfling pushes off the shield. He may look light, but he has considerably more leverage than the cleric who barely manages to support him.

Aid another: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (17) + 1 = 18

Lecian:

Spoiler:
Judging from the number of blank pages, the spellbook is from a Cyphermage neophyte. The writing is beginning to run. The pages and binding are already starting to bloat. Clearly the neophyte had neither the resources nor craft to properly protect his arguably most precious possesion.

Male Aasimar (Plumekith) Occultist (Psychodermist/Reliquarian) (AC 25/17/20; HP 52/52; Fort +9, Ref +10, Will +8; Init +8, Perception +17, CMD 22)

Noting the motionless arm, Tyrrol shrugs.

Hmmm... I had better go and have a look at that...

Spotting Kuva, however, Tyrrol hails him.

"Kuva! Who survived in your room? Samaritha and myself yet live, but the other two Cyphermages that were with us were not so lucky..."

Tyrrol then tries to gingerly move his way to the '4th floor' window...

Climb: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (11) + 5 = 16. OR
Swim: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (13) - 1 = 12, whichever is appropriate.

...to check whom the arm belongs to, and whether they still live...

Tyrrol flips open his pocket-watch, glances at the face for somewhat longer than necessary, and then shrugs, before channeling healing energy into the body.

Dumping a CLW (1d8 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 1 = 8) into them if they still live.

If the above is carried out...

"Wake-up! It has been decreed that it is not yet quite your turn to visit The Boneyard..."

Maps, etc...

Tyrrol swims to the upper part of the tower. The arm belongs to a much abused, barely conscious Lothan. There is no sign of Gep.

On the clifftop, one of the creatures tries to negotiate the slope.

1d20 + 9 ⇒ (13) + 9 = 22

It gingerly zigzags along the slope. Seeing its success another four follow.

1d20 + 9 ⇒ (20) + 9 = 29
1d20 + 9 ⇒ (12) + 9 = 21
1d20 + 9 ⇒ (19) + 9 = 28
1d20 + 9 ⇒ (8) + 9 = 17

One slips on loose stone and begins sliding down the slope. After a dozen feet it begins to tumble and it bounces all the way to the foot of the cliff. Debris dislodged by its sliding fall forms a small talus pile which half-covers the corpse.

The creatures at the top of the cliff turn west and begin trotting along the cliff edge. The creatures descending the cliff watch the fall, then resume their course. They make it perhaps a fifth of the way down.

Samarintha tries hauling herself out the window again.

1d20 - 2 ⇒ (19) - 2 = 17

She joins Kuva on top of the lower tower.

Male Aasimar (Plumekith) Occultist (Psychodermist/Reliquarian) (AC 25/17/20; HP 52/52; Fort +9, Ref +10, Will +8; Init +8, Perception +17, CMD 22)

"It looks like we will soon have company..."

Tyrrol then gingerly tries to make his way over to the cliff base...

Maps, etc...

More swimming required to get to cliff. Right now the two tower pieces are little islands.

Well done, and nicely described in surviving the tower. Let's level up now. Those of you who prep spells have the new slots available, but you've got to find time to prepare. Slots already used today may not be refilled.

Cookie Jar Pilferer 9 ; Dimensional Explorer 4

Guys, that was pretty much it. You've got some options for how we actually tie the game up as I explained in the Game thread. I'm willing to RP the AP in a rules-light mode.

I just want to make sure I say this before anyone leaves. It's has been great playing with you all. The characters were really interesting.

Luke -- Tyrrol's build was a killer. Brilliant,

Javell -- Glad to see Lothan finally came into his own in that last fight.

Set -- As stated at the beginning of the game, I have an aversion to evil PCs, but I'm glad you made Mordecai work so well. Great experience for me to see that.

Ludomancer -- I think Lecian did a lot more than it looks in that last fight. The arcane sight picked the enemy caster out early. Lecian's mere presence goaded me into the silence which "wasted" a turn for the caster and was really a huge tactical error. Her next best spell was suggestion which she would have thrown at Lothan except he was in the silence and so invulnerable to it. That led to her trying it on the other "fighter" -- laughable. And waking Mordecai up instead of casting was smart. His channels pretty much guaranteed that the guards were one hit kills for Lothan and Tyrrol.

Happy to chat as much as you guys want.

Male Humanly Awesome 'n Totally Rockin' Paladin of Greatness

Man that was pretty cool for Lothan to shine like that. It's almost like he was some type of "I've got one last card to be played" or some such. That was fun!

Like 2 1/2 years to finish. Man where does the time go. Too fast if you ask me.

Enjoyed it, fellas. Too bad we lost Jelloarm along the way. Kuva was a pretty neat pc.

I'll confess, at one point I sure was hoping Lothan would die.

I hated him. He was boring and lame.

Fortunately, I tried a different approach and it worked. That's when I started joking around with Tyrrol. I thought it would be pretty interesting for some skinny half-elf to joke around with this ogre of one who is the epitome of seriousness.

I had to do something, I was dying with this guy. Man he was the worst.

@therealthom: Thanks for running it; I had a blast :-)

@Javell: I really enjoyed the interplay between Tyrrol and Lothan, even if *Tyrrol* was somewhat confused by it ;-) I agree that Lothan certainly finished off the campaign with a bang!

@Set: I thought that Mordecai was quite an interesting character, despite the ever-present threat that his goddess would come and claim him (aka abysmal hp rolling).

@Ludomancer: I agree that Lecian probably did not get as much respect as he deserved, but he was still remarkably useful...

As a final note, I would just like to add that I would be happy to game with any or all of you again, in the future - especially if, say, we could con someone into running the next book for us**.

**This is not an attempt to pressure our current GM; just a general observation.

Male Human Diviner Wizard 6

The adventure twist in Children of the Void kind of has me interested as to what's supposed to happen next. I'm considering running part 3 of the AP, and if I do, I'll ask here for players first.

Cookie Jar Pilferer 9 ; Dimensional Explorer 4

Excellent, Ludomancer!

So guys, I thought you might be interested in your loot in the final cave. I'm sure you can kill or drive away the orca. And that you can circumvent the broken bridge and the need to reach the high ledge across the cave where the drow cleric started.

Most of the drow guard bodies have a cure moderate wounds potion, masterwork chain shirt, masterwork small steel shield, masterwork rapier, masterwork hand crossbow with ~5 bolts. Those chain shirts might not be so masterwork anymore. =-)

There's a depot for goods stored at area G9c, primarily tools and supplies the drow used to move the meteorite from the crater to this area, to repair the platforms here, and other sundry supplies. The supplies include two block and tackles, 10 square yards of canvas, 50 feet of chain, five crowbars, three fishing nets, six grappling hooks, four hammers, six hooded lanterns, a set of masterwork shipwright’s tools, a set of masterwork carpenter’s tools, a set of masterwork tailor’s tools, a merchant’s scale, seven miner’s picks, 14 pitons, two 10-foot poles, a portable ram, 200 feet of silk rope, 17 empty sacks, and two sledges. Mixed in with all this mundane gear is a crate containing four bottles of 4663-vintage wine from the Terverius Wineries of southern Cheliax. Each bottle is worth 300 gp.

On the main platform (area G9d), The large trunks contain largely food and clothing. A small, unlocked box contains two potions of lesser restoration, three potions of remove paralysis, and a potion of
neutralize poison. All are labeled in Undercommon.

On the cleric's starting ledge (area G9g): Shindiira’s trunk contains more than just the 53 pounds of noqual harvested from the meteorite. This ore creates a rough layer along the bottom of the chest; atop it Shindiira has laid several changes of clothes (including two sets of noble outfits sized for an elven woman and worth 60 gp each) and a set of ostentatious costume jewelry worth 5 gp. Also in the chest is a silver scrolltube worth 150 gp that contains several maps— Devil’s Elbow (before and after the meteorite strike), Riddleport, Celwynvian, western Varisia, and all of Varisia. The map of Celwynvian includes information on several key drow encampments and patrol routes.

Perhaps the greatest treasure in the chests, though, are the three books wrapped in silk and leather and set along the left side of the chest. The first of these books is Tsalkaean’s Bestiary, a book written in Undercommon that grants a +2 circumstance bonus on Knowledge (dungeoneering) checks to identify aberrations and oozes and is worth 200 gp. The second is a well-read book called Thoughts on Varisian
Customs, written in Common and worth 10 gp. The final book is a slender journal, similar in style to the one that Depora kept. Whereas Depora’s journal made no mention of Shindiira, this journal mentions Depora many
times. A character who reads the journal learns first of Shindiira’s excitement at being accepted into House Azrinae, and then eventually her frustration and finally hatred for Depora. Nolveniss is mentioned by name several times as well; Shindiira is quite explicit in the ways in which she plans to use him as her consort once she returns to him in Celwynvian with a large amount of noqual and akatas to show him her
power. The last dozen entries display a dramatic shift in tone, becoming an almost scientific list of observations of the strange meteorological effects that preceded the falling star, the impact itself, and developments afterward. The PCs can use these entries to piece together much of what’s been going on over the past few days on the island. More importantly, the journal mentions several times an ominously titled event or object called an “Armageddon Echo”.

You can spend the next few days holed up in the cave or back at the camp. You can hunt the tentacle dogs (Akatas) and zombies if you like, or not. You guys are officially the baddestassed people on the island.

When the boats come to pick up Clegg's gang, Akron, as CLegg's righthand man, is in a good position to negotiate, especially with you all backing him up. You can get one of the ships to take you all to Magnimar, not Korvosa like Akron told you, he'll correct that lie just before you put into Magnimar. Or you could get one of the ships for yourself. The ordinary pirate crew members are willing to follow anyone who's tough and capable and able to put coin in their pocket and you've shown yourself to be all three.

If you would, Thom, go ahead and make the thread inactive for me.

I'm not going to be able to join any more games at this time or who knows when. RL has me busy these days.

Was fun, fellas!

Your wish ....

Edit: Hey look, we can still post.

Yeah, it doesn't lock the thread, just marks it as inactive so it drops to the footnote area of your Campaigns tab.

Congrats on actually finishing a campaign, guys! That's quite an accomplishment. :)

Male Human Diviner Wizard 6

Are any of you up to playing through Armageddon Echo?

Male Humanly Awesome 'n Totally Rockin' Paladin of Greatness

Alright, I think I'd be interested, Lecian. I'm guessing you're gonna throw this out in a recruit thread and we have to sign up as normal?

How's all this gonna shake out?

I wouldn't say no :-)

I actually wasn't going to bother with a recruit thread, as long as I got enough players from this group.

The others may have to sent PMs. In the meantime, take any discussion here.
