Game Master James Martin

The endgame is nigh for Korvosa! Can the heroes stop a mad queen and end her threat before she sacrifices an entire city to fuel her aims?

Alright, recapping. The plan is to teleport into the middle of the public speech, thus surprising the Queen and her bloated mage?

Tjat seems to be right, DM, of course we are going to buff up as much as possible, because they are obviously going to be expecting us!

Bonekeep Slides

Early the next morning you wake to find the hideout in full activity. Everywhere people move, belting on weapons and armor, distributing orders and generally getting read. Marshall Croft, once more dressed in full regalia, stops briefly to bid you luck. She's accompanied by Sabina Merrin and Vencarlo Orsini, both of whom look grim.

You cast your buffs, ready your weapons and teleport!

You arrive in the same courtyard where, it seems so long ago, the late head of the Sable Company shot the Queen with a crossbow bolt to the head, only to have her rip it free and use it to kill him. There is a crowd of nobles around you, milling about, listening to the queen, who speaks from a balcony above.

"My citizens, the time has come for Korvosa to put the late lawlessness in the past, to step boldly forward into the new age. The time has come..." She suddenly stops and Togomor, the bloated seneshal cries out "There! Kill them!" while pointing directly at you!

Several things happen at once! Thrak rushes forward to pounce on the bloated mage, while Pai casts a spell to enclose the Queen in a stone prison and Corbyn sneaks unseen toward the stairs leading to the platform. However, at the same time, Ruperta peers up at the platform and the courtyard and sees that the nobles and the queen's party on the platform are all illusions! She opens her mouth to shout this news, when the fat mage appears to their right, his fat hands already moving to cast! At the same time, the Queen appears to be in the midst of her grey maidens, as she begins to speak about the necessity of the deaths of these traitors, while her form begins to shimmer!

Bonekeep Slides

Slumper steps forward and knocks the somewhat confused Grey Maiden's weapon aside, stabbing her. The other Grey Maidens all seem confused and at a loss as what to do. They assume defensive stances. The devil hisses a few words in infernal and a greenish fog explodes into being around Paxs, Pai and Ruperta! They each take 2d6 ⇒ (3, 6) = 9 acid damage!

Acid Fog rules:Acid fog creates a billowing mass of misty vapors. The fog obscures all sight, including darkvision, beyond 5 feet. A creature within 5 feet has concealment (attacks have a 20% miss chance). Creatures farther away have total concealment (50% miss chance, and the attacker can't use sight to locate the target).

Creatures moving through an acid fog move at half their normal speed and take a –2 penalty on all melee attack and melee damage rolls. The vapors prevent effective ranged weapon attacks (except for magic rays and the like). A creature or object that falls into acid fog is slowed so that each 10 feet of vapor that it passes through reduces the falling damage by 1d6. A creature cannot take a 5-foot-step while in acid fog. Acid fog, and effects that work like acid fog, do not stack with each other in terms of slowed movement and attack penalties.

In addition to slowing down creatures and obscuring sight, this spell's vapors are highly acidic. Each round on your turn, starting when you cast the spell, the fog deals 2d6 points of acid damage to each creature and object within it.

Unlike normal fog, only a severe wind (31+ mph) disperses these vapors, and it does so in 1 round.

does the defensive posture mean I can move through them and they won't attack? or do we need to contend with them?

Slumper, they look like they're more trying to figure out what the heck just happened, and if you don't attack them, they don't seem inclined to attack you. Pai, sounds right!

Female Human (Varisian) Cleric of Desna 8 | HP 30/57 | AC 24 T 17 FF 19 CMD 26 | F +9 R +9 W +12 | Init +4 | Perc +7 | Status: Normal

Ruperta flies away from the Acid Fog cloud, towards the devil, getting out of it.
She has, with Haste, a 90' fly speed, so I guess she can get easily out of it.
"Grey Maidens! You have been deceived! Drop your weapons! Don't throw your lives away!"
She turns towards the worm.
"You, abomination! Feel the wrath of Desna!"
She casts Jolting Portent against the devil.

Paxs takes his move to get out cloud, while Thrak attacks the devil.

60 ft movement speed, will take a double if needed.

The Grey Maidens hear Ruperta's calling and look as if they're willing to comply, but before they can, Thrak roars across the courtyard, knocking one Maiden to the side as it springs upon the devil!

SR check for Ruperta: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (19) + 13 = 32 The spell hits the devil and an aura of electricity dances over him!

Only a bite and claw get through the devil's defenses, and even then they do less damage than they should! However, the devil is wounded and looks angered!

Corbyn and Slumper are up!

Slumber pushed past the startled maidens to bash at the demon with his shield good aligned shield thanks to ruperta buff if that matters Also taking +2 from buff

1d20 + 24 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (18) + 24 + 2 + 2 = 46 shield
1d4 + 9 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 9 + 2 + 1 = 16

BTW 11 hps :) just in case, i was going to try and heal this round but had to get out of the fog. Also just in case it matters Thrak's bite is +3 weapon due to greater magic fang

Slumper steps up and bashes the devil, but not before the long reach of the fiend attempts to lash him with one of its foul tongues! Tongue: 1d20 + 23 ⇒ (11) + 23 = 34, dealing 2d6 + 7 ⇒ (2, 1) + 7 = 10 damage to him and attempting a grab 1d20 + 29 ⇒ (15) + 29 = 44! It wraps tightly around Slumper, choking him and keeping him from speaking! Grappled!

Corbyn was not feeling well Sunday night, so we'll have him delay until he's feeling better!

The devil cries out in triumph as Slumper is caught! Grapple maintain?: 1d20 + 29 ⇒ (1) + 29 = 30 But this turns to anger as Slumper wrenches free!

"Savor your brief freedom, warrior. I will take your body as my own and when I have it, I shall defile your woman in such ways as she shall beg me for more. And your captive soul will watch and weep impotently as I make her my slave!" All four voices cackle madly!

The heroes are up!

Gnome Illusionist 14 HP 83/110; AC 14(18); F +12 R +11 W +14; Init. +7; Perc. +16

As a swift action, Pai uses her invisibility field to vanish, and then moves to get a better angle to blast it. She then uses her Staff of Necromany to fire an Enervation Ray at the devil!

RTA 1d20 + 9 - 4 ⇒ (9) + 9 - 4 = 14

Negative levels 1d4 ⇒ 1

If hits, he takes a minus one to basically everything, loses 5 HP and is treated one lev lower for level dependent effects. FYI, invisibility field acts as greater invisibility so she might get a bonus to attack if he can't see invisibility. .

not sure of this matters as I was attacking. I can't be physically touched by an evil summons until I attack it
