Our Mysterious Benefactor |
Suddenly Pai reappears on the floor next to a suddenly reappearing Ruperta! Both look slightly dazed and bear a light blue glowing tattoo of a Butterfly on the back of their left hands. For 1 week Pai and Ruperta receive a +4 to Perception checks!
Sial mumurs "Fascinating. The sphere must be sacred to Desna in some way."
Our Mysterious Benefactor |
Corbyn examines the globe. It seems to be stone, quite heavy and resting on three immoveable rods. Disabling any of them would cause the globe to fall.
Other than the giant stone plug, there is no more to this level.
Corbyn Barrett |
Shaking his head at the gnome, Corbyn follows her back to the top.
Looking around, he will pick the next door on his left as he comes back out into the hall and approach it.
Perception: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (16) + 14 = 30
Slumper |
Before going back up the portal, Slumper is going to look at the plug int he wall to see if he sees a way around or through it. I have no stone skills or anything, just taking a look
1d20 + 8 ⇒ (5) + 8 = 13percp
Our Mysterious Benefactor |
Slumper examines the stone plug, but it's far too large to shift. He believes the only way through it is with magic.
Corbyn moves to a door off the transport chamber, and opens it with little difficulty. A strange bronze statue stands in the center of the room. The statue depicts a half-snake, half-human creature with the lower body of a serpent coiled about a stand and the upper torso of a slender human woman. Her hands are crossed over her chest to clutch two objects at her shoulders—the right hand holds a large quill, while the left holds a jade-handled whip. Six birdlike wings emerge from the torso’s shoulders, and instead of a head, it has a disk bearing a seven-pointed star. A line of jade runes runs down the statue’s belly and along the length of its snaky lower body. The whip appears to be a separate item from the statue.
Paxs |
Paxs and Thrak take a good look at the statue.

Pai Kromnite |
Base roll to add to the appropriate skill modifier. 1d20 ⇒ 13.
Pai also searches the room and the statue, trying to recall if she had heard of anything resembling this before. Another appearance of the seven pointed star!
Our Mysterious Benefactor |
Pai recalls reading something about a goddess of runes in ancient Thassilon. Lissala, you think her name was.
Pai Kromnite |
Spellcraft 1d20 + 17 ⇒ (14) + 17 = 31
"Corbyn, please check that statue for traps. It looks like that whip might be magical, if you'd like to collect that for us! I don't want you to rush in...this place seems like the kind of place that they'd hide a nasty trap."
Our Mysterious Benefactor |
Corbyn finds no traps upon the statue, nor in the room. The next door leads to a long hallway similar to the one where the Shadowcount and the chain devil were waiting. Small windows watch onto the room with the pool. The far door leads onto a long hallway running perpendicular to the one you're in, with several doors along it, including two sets of large double doors. One leads back into the pool room, but the other leads away from it. The remaining corridor ends abruptly at both ends, choked off by thousands of tons of collapsed rock and sand.
Our Mysterious Benefactor |
With a bit of wrenching, Thrak is able to free the whip from the statue and return it.
The double doors, as it turns out, are unlocked and easily pushed open. The walls of this chamber are decorated with six life-sized bas-relief carvings that depict a diverse collection of priests, each adorned in billowing robes draped in Thassilonian runes. An intricate scripture winds around each carving, coiling around them and along the walls like an immensely long tangle of ribbons.
Knowledge Religion to ID the priests' affiliation. Linguistics to read the script.
Our Mysterious Benefactor |
Pai can't identify the religion in the murals, but she's pretty close to reading the script. It'll just take her some time.
Our Mysterious Benefactor |
Thrak thinks the images are of the priests of Lissala, the goddess of runes. Paxs moves over to help Pai, but feels a strange compulsion pass over him, a compulsion to keep reading the script. Pai, meanwhile, is too engrossed in the script to notice Paxs' sudden wave of dizziness. She waves away any attempt to help her as she keeps reading.
Our Mysterious Benefactor |
Corbyn's searches reveal a thread of magical writing imbedded with the mundane script. It seems to have a compulsion effect on it. Pai, meanwhile, has eyes only for the writing.
Our Mysterious Benefactor |
As Pai reads on, time goes by. She exhibits no indication that she will leave of her own volition. You suspect she will die from hunger and thirst before she breaks free... Someone has to break her free.
Our Mysterious Benefactor |
It is possible to destroy the writing, though it is carved in stone.
Slumper shakes Pai, but she slaps his hand away and resumes reading. You're going to need a CMB check vs her CMD to drag her away from it!
Our Mysterious Benefactor |
Pai struggles and shrieks as Slumper hauls her out of the room. Once out of the room her struggles and shrieks stop and she blinks, suddenly free of the compulsion.
However, from the pool room, a sound of water splashing and the slippery thwack of tentacles rises...
Pai Kromnite |
"Ugh, I don't remember what happened in there. All of a sudden that infernal text was all I could think about! Thank you, Slumper...I might have been in there forever without you." As Pai is thanking Slumper, she hears what might be happening in the last room. "This is bad. Are we ready to try and defeat that strange sea monster?"
Our Mysterious Benefactor |
Peering through the double doors reveals a strange sight: four warriors in insectile armor, the Red Mantis assassins, fight against Krojun and three of his Sklar-Quah warriors while two giant tentacles lash out from the pool. Krojun and his men are wounded and the Red Mantis seem to be pressing their attack!
What are you doing?
Pai Kromnite |
Pai will not stand for Krojun, who might be an ally, to be attacked by assassins and eaten by a sea monster! "We must help them!" Pai picks the furthest Red Mantis warrior and unleashed one of her more devilish spells at it.

Pai moves forward into the room, again focusing her attacks on the evil assassins. She locates the closest one to her and casts yet another necromantic spell, striking it with a violet ray about the head and shoulders. "We are coming Krojun!"
