The Pathfinder Society has opened its gates to visitors from across the world in anticipation of the Grand Convocation, a magnificent festival in which Pathfinders share tales of their exploits, show off their findings, and celebrate the Society’s accomplishments. However, an inopportune accident quickly spirals out of control when an old enemy attempts a brazen assault on the Pathfinders’ home, and an unexpected foe emerges from hiding to seek vengeance for the Society’s perceived crimes. Can the Pathfinders pacify the chaos and protect their guests while simultaneously defending the Grand Lodge?

Some of the attendees at this year's Grand Convocation include:

The Exchange

Male Tiefling Investigator 1

A body completely covered in red scales. A head of black hair blends into the shadows. Protected by dark studded leather, Ashes relies on his speed and cunning to dispatch his foes and if that doesn't work than his steel will suffice. Born and raised on the streets of Absalom, Ashes perfected the only skills inherent for someone of his lot. Because he could not engage in illegal activities all the time; he also learned to brew the warmest spirits imaginable thus earning his name. A Tiefling, he lived a youth trusted by no one and loved by less. Today he fights seeking the companionship denied by his birth and the answers to a mystery word: family.

You have arrived at the iconic Grand Lodge of the Pathfinder Society, located in the Foreign Quarter of Absalom, the city at the heart of the Inner Sea.

Master of Swords Marcos Farabellus strides up to the large crowd and claps his hands together for attention.

“Welcome Pathfinders, one and all! And welcome to our traveling venture captains stationed abroad as well our honored guests! I am Marcos Farabellus, and on behalf of the Decemvirate, I welcome you to the Pathfinder Society’s annual Grand Convocation! I shall address all of the attendees later this afternoon to announce some of the Society’s greatest accomplishments over the past year and our plans for the future. In the meantime, I invite you to stroll about the campus, meet with your peers, and enjoy all the sites of the Grand Lodge. We have set up numerous challenges and contests so that you can show off your skills or sharpen them if need be. I’ll send around ushers when it’s time to assemble for the speeches on the north lawn. Enjoy!"

Your group has gathered together, meeting new people is not always easy for some and quite easy for others. But on this occasion the excitement of the event has you all in the mood to make new likeminded acquaintances. You have informally formed a small group and are sharing names and some niceties, when a slender and graceful human female with fair complexion and blonde hair joins your talk. She wears leather armor which seems freshly oiled, a blue cloak made of a fine fabric with a gold fringe, and has an exquisitely decorated long bow, with an equally well-adorned quiver full of arrows.

Greetings fellow pathfinders!

She says in a clearly excited tone. She seems both confident and easy going.

I'm Nigella Illintain the third. And by my guess this is all of your first Grand Convocation?

Her statement hangs like a question which she already knows the answer to. And she looks upon your faces waiting for introductions and replies.

Excellent, Excellent! Nigella is overjoyed by your response.

Well let's see -- great, you should have time to try most of those out before it's time for the big speech. Make sure you talk to fellow pathfinders while you are at the different contests also, it's good to make new contacts.

Everyone should have time to try 2 or 3 of these. I'll give the details for 2-3 at a time, folks who expressed interest can try them out. I'll provide some background below then go ahead and make a post, role-play what you are doing or saying and conclude it with a d20 roll (DC check) based on the posted details.

Noz and Butharn you mentioned the weight lifting, my guess is that will be popular for sure. Pretty obvious, the competition will see who can lift the heaviest weights. And don't be intimidated as experienced agents are expected to be mightier than the newer recruits. But looking at you both I'm sure you can hold your own.

Nigella points to an open area that already seems to be gathering a crowd.

The weight lifting is right over there. Set up in front of the obstacle course.

Daveak, the animal handling is over in the menagerie and training area right behind where we have obstacle course set up. They'll have unusual creatures from all over the Inner Sea. You can take a shot at handling and taming some of them.

Phythor, Eldak, Hangust; really ingenious, the trap mastery competition is staged within a spare room of the Mausoleum. Tables are laden with boxes, chests, cutaway sections of door handles, empty sarcophagi, and other common places where traps are concealed. You know a trap is present and must disarm it within a time limit. Alternatively, agents can also create or modify a trap to confound their comrades for credit. All of the traps are nonlethal.

Have at it!

Weight lifting is a DC12 Strength check.
Animal Handling is a DC15 Handle Animal, Intimidate, or wild empathy
Trap Mastery is a DC15 Craft (traps) or Disable Device
Again roleplay a bit, then conclude with applicable check.

Going to do this over a few posts. Feel free to jump in and add to it. Sorry slow to post, busy busy day

Butharn and Noz reach the weight lifting area. Quite a few pathfinders are gathered, some real bruisers.

While waiting in line to show there muscle a rather large Ulfen man with a Great Axe and an even bigger Garundi man with a Flachion, are in front of you and you overhear the Garundi man saying.

The Decemvirate has spared no expense on this year’s Grand Convocation. They want to reach out to as many Pathfinders as possible. They want to make every effort to demonstrate their appreciation to field agents and repair any frayed relationships.

The Ulfen man joins in And celebrate a successful year! We got that sky key didn't we! He then takes a large swig from a tankard. And gives a mighty laugh.

Butharn steps up first, he hoists the weight up, he starts to bauble, but then his dwarven resolve kicks in and he pushes the weight straight up. A smattering of applause rings out from the other nearby pathfinders as he moves on he gets a few pats on the back.

Noz steps up next and he also pushes the bar up just a little more steadily than Butharn. Applause and pats await him as well.

Seeing Burtarn and Noz in action inspires Hangust to action. When his turn arrives, he struggles to lift the bar, but his determination sees him push the bar up. The crowd is impressed by the halfling's resolve. A good cheer goes up for him.

They initially circle the pathfinder and look like they try to make him a snack. But quickly Deveak takes control over the cats. Soon you have them rolling over and purring.

Eldak hurries over toward the Mausoleum, on his way he grabs some hors-d'oeuvre and a tasty beverage on the way.

Arriving he finds a group gathered round and chatting. The conversation seems to be about Master of Spells, Aram Zey. It seems he was slated to deliver the keynote address but begged out of the privilege, citing his general dislike and disdain for the Grand Convocation as a colossal waste of time and expense. Marcos Farabellus, Master of Swords, volunteered to take his place.

When Eldak's turn comes up he makes easy work of a chest popping it open with ease.

Phythor is up a little later, by that time the conversation has shift to Arliss Hall. It seems it is full to the brim with all the visiting venture-captains from abroad. The building is rumored to mysteriously change its internal layout. The increased comings and goings have prompted it to do so with even greater regularity and many venture-captains have become lost themselves, wandering the hallways. The crowd seems to be having a good laugh about it.

Phythor finds and disable a trapped a sarcophagus and easily disables it's trap. He can then be found increasing his coin collection around the grounds.

You both gains a +2 competence bonus on one Disable Device check or Reflex saving throw attempted during the adventure.

When someone fails the crowd let's out oohs and ahhs, when they succeed cheers ring out.

It's a timed trial to be the quickest one through the course. A large chalkboard lists the best times and participants. Someone named Prince Brobryn Cartell is in the top spot with an impressive looking time.

You also hear people talking about the Sleuthing. This event is hosted in a lecture hall in one of the eastern outbuildings, where several agents have set up a fake crime scene. An audience watches as a blindfolded Pathfinder is led into the middle of the scene. They then can remove his blindfold and has two minutes in which to examine the scene before replacing the blindfold. He then must describe from memory all of the clues and forensic evidence that he noticed to an audience and event organizer.

Sleuthing - DC15 Heal, Perception, or Survival

The “talking circle” has been set up near the temporary structures west of the front gates, a large circle has been marked out on the grounds. There is limited seating but plenty of comfortable spots on the lawn.
Pathfinders are busy competing telling the best story.
Oh course complete accuracy is optional if the tale is funny or entertaining enough. Experienced Pathfinders are expected to have grander tales. Music or dance is just as welcome if incorporated in the narrative.

Storytelling - DC 15 Bluff or any Perform

And finally the Lore Symposium, is a forum conducted in an outdoor lecture area in the Quadrangle. Agents do not literally compete in this event, but a meaningful contribution to the panel discussion garners attention and accolades from fellow scholars. You hear from someone that Genedair of Iomedae, a venerable hero of the Mendevian Crusades just gave a very informative talk on the weaknesses of different kinds of demons.

Well done, Phythor also gains a +2 competence bonus on one Dexterity-based skill check attempted during the adventure.
