"Psionic transportation is blocked in all but a few locations in Adar. My companion shall psychoport thee to Kasshta Keep, which is near the border with Syrkarn. From there you shall have to pass through a mountain on foot to reach Syrkarn. Once in Syrkarn, you shall be about 100 miles from the village of Tam Jath. Much of the journey is desert and plains, with semi-nomadic tribes spread throughout. With your capabilities, you should be able to get to Tam Jath in a week or less.
However, near the end you will need to cross through a row of Riedran settlements undetected. Traveling around would take additional time--time we may not have.
My companion shall draw up a map for you...
"

Momentarily, a scroll falls out of the chasm, and lands on Qara's head.
"Ow, what was that for, S?"

"Ssssorrry. Thy map is complete."
comes the other voice.
And I will actually post some relevant maps later tonight:)

"Anyways, the Riedran settlements will likely be guarded by agents of the Thousand Eyes of Riedra. They are not soldiers, but should your origins be revealed they will be very difficult to escape from, as I am sure your Elan friend can attest to."

Well that takes care of my objections. I will not speak for the others but I am willing to do this and I am ready to begin. Gedeon looks around at the others expectedly. Looks like again I am in the situation of if you can't live with no one doing a job it becomes your responsibility to see it done. Don't really need much in the way of regional maps , was just trying to convey Gedeon's duck out of water feeling.

Acorn looks at Helac a moment longer before nodding. "Just thought the others should know what they were getting into before joining. You have healed my wounds before but I will always hate Reidrans. They seek to make the world subservient to the denizens of Dal Quor, the Quori. They even grow vessels for the Quori to inhabit called the Inspired. They are slowly taking over Sarlona and will eventually move on the the other nations if they are not stopped here. I am here because their war destroyed the forest I used to call home and many others. The conclave I come from would sit and idly watch as nature burn rather than take up arms to stop it. I am not so passive. I will bring the fury of nature upon their head."

Qara holds out the scroll, which contains a map. [ooc]The red is the most direct path, accounting for geographical obstacles. The blue is a strip of Riedran settlements. Her companion, still hidden, hisses out
"If you ready, I shall take you to Kasshta Keep now."

Thousand Eyes... No one is ever alone. His face screws up in distaste as he takes a deep breath and releases it slowly through his nose. I would recommend that we have some sort of obfuscation... though... I am not good with such things.

But deserts... deserts... his voice drops a bit in volume as his right hand traces a circle in the air like the turning of a wheel. Before we go, is anyone experienced with desert travel? We might need a few more things otherwise. he says as he begins to look at each in turn.

Haazek's head is spinning. So, the world is in imminent danger from nightmares from another world. Almost sounds like I'm about to enter one of the stories the duur'kala tell to frighten the children. I'm sure before this is over, many brave ghaal'dar will have to come and fight here in Sarlona...

Snapping his attention back to the human, he speaks. "Deserts? No, up to this point of my life, the Traveler wasn't mad enough at me to send me into a desert." Looking up at the sky, Haazek sarcastically says, "Thanks for nothing. Let us make our preparations."

"If you are in need of desert related equipment," 'S' informs, "You should be able to acquire some once you arrive at Kasshta Keep."

"Normally the Kalashtar are not so secretive. Who is it that is sending me? Why do you not show your face like her?" he asks of the echoing voice while pointing at Qara. "Or are you one of the great wyrm's that rumor says protects the borders of Adar?"

For some reason, I imagine the reverberating voice like the Rock Troll on the Never Ending Story coming from the bottom of a large well.

Helac moves closer to the Leafling and whispers Kalashtar? With that sibilant slur... no my friend. The owner is something else, though I cannot hazard a guess as to what.

Turning back to the rest, he clears his throat, and states If we have the necessary gold or items to barter with, acquiring the appropriate implements at Kasshta Keep would make sense... now that you point that out. The things we would need... I suspect... would be more common there.

Spoiler:
HelacHelacHelac, are you going to introduce Me?!

Later, Eroh. I have also neglected to explain forming a mental collective, but I shall explain at a more appropriate time, my bauble.

Helac's eyes unfocus for a moment, and an unconscious smile tugs at the corners of his lips. He then apparently changes mental gears.

Taking a moment to look the hobgoblin up and down, he comments I think... you shall do fine. You seem... a sturdy sort. If anything... I would guess you to be... a relative natural.

Deserts, new places to face danger and a meaningless death. Wonder what the food is like around here. At least the group they have gathered looks competent. Gedeon looks on having said his peace and is ready to continue.

"Very well, if you are ready to depart..."
A slender, green-eyed humanoid floats down from the chasm above. Not a kalashtar, but a xeph.

"...Then hold on as we psychoport."
I'm going to assume all of you go along, if you don't then please stop me:P

Revion:
Neither Qara nor the xeph have alignment auras that you can detect.

With a whirl of energy, the group appears in another cave. This room is considerably larger, but lacks the echo effect of the thunderous caverns. A total of seven different passages lead out of this room in different directions.
"Welcome to the Shroud Bubble beneath Kasshta Keep. The largest city in Adar is above our heads."
The xeph speaks with a calm, soft voice, barely making eye contact with any of you.

"That path,"
he points to one of the seven passages,
"leads under the mountains and out into Syrkarn. If you feel the need to gather supplies, or merely to orient yourselves, "
he spins around and points at another path,
"Then that hall leads up to the city itself."

Helac slows a moment, unsure of himself, but apparently decides to press onward with his original intent. Certainly... that is one... valid way... of perceiving it. One of the... characters... I used to travel with believed that decisions should be made in the space of seven breaths.

I supposed that you would be the most adamant against thought powers and projections. I wanted to take you aside for a moment... and explain something before explaining it to the others... how the collective, a name for linking minds telepathically, works to augment my ability to heal others.

He ducks his head, appearing a little embarrassed and nervous. If you are against it... I would not attempt to do so. It takes the willing... and has no impact upon your will... though it allows me to move life energies around easier and heal from a greater distance. I am also not powerful enough to link many minds... so I could only accomplish it for about three or four minds at a time anyway.

Esme had remained quite for most of the conversation in the hall, trying to take it all in. Though she did not neccesarily want to head into the path of danger for these strange Sarlonians, she knew this was probably her best opportunity to survey the land. She hesitantly joined the group as they teleported to a new location. The shock of the trip heightened her senses though as she looked around their new location.

After scoping out the surroundings for a minute, she leans over to the Hobgoblin. Whispering, "Watch my back and I will watch yours."

Multi-headed creatures are easy to confuse and distract and thus easier to take down. More heads are not better. I see now you speak metaphorically. I have no problem with your "collective" if it will aid us in battle and communication. Just know that we druids are more accustomed to acting alone. If I see the wisdom in someone's words I will accept them. But I follow my own path and accept the consequences wholeheartedly."

Oh... Uhmm... Very good. One moment.

A look of concentration crosses Helac's face, and sends out the mental impulse to connect his mind and Acorn's.

Current collective limits and benefits:
As a standard action, a vitalist can join a number willing targets into his collective (currently 4). Must have line of sight. Medium range (130'). The vitalist is always considered a member of his own collective, and does not count against this limit. Free action to leave.

Whenever a willing member of the vitalist's collective could regain lost hit points or ability damage, the vitalist may choose to redirect any or all of that healing to one or more other willing members of the collective as a free action.

If a vitalist power specifies one or more willing targets (or is harmless) and has a range greater than personal, he can manifest this power on a member of his collective regardless of the range of the actual power. (So vigor and natural healing mostly.)

All willing members of his collective can communicate with each other telepathically, even if they do not share a common language. Psionic creatures who are willing members in a vitalist's collective (including the vitalist himself) may manifest unknown powers from powers known by another willing psionic creature in the collective as if they were making physical contact. A vitalist may temporarily deactivate, and reactivate, this ability as a swift action.

Helac smiles as he now thinks to Acorn. I now find myself... speechless.

Along the mental link, there is a definite sense of awareness and... emptiness.

That will be Adharc. His thoughts are rudimentary, more empathy than telepathy, but he was well trained.

You are right. I came late... and it seems Qara... and S... have gone about things... in an odd order. Helac turns full toward you, places his right fist on his left breast, a salute of sorts, and says I am Helac, now of Adar... though I have yet to see much of it.

This... gesturing to the overly large elk in leather barding, packs, and saddle is my simple friend, Adharc... and this holding up a rather plain faceted quartz crystal on the end of a leather necklace ...is my less simple friend, Eroh.

Helac quirks his head slightly to the right and asks Would YOU like to join me telepathically? As I was explaining to... my new compatriot... it allows me to better heal others... and to communicate.

No map--I'll usually only use a map if the terrain/location is sufficiently complicated, or if there are a lot of characters/creatures in an encounter.

When Revion is able to act this will be what he does.

Revion steps up to the ogre. His demeanor is calm, and shows no anger. All weapons are currently sheathed.

@Helac Heel means the creature follows you so that means he is beside you, if the tunnel is wide enough, or behind you but that would still put Esme and Haazek in the back.

I am not sure why, but I assumed the tunnel was small enough that Adharc had to follow behind. If that is not the case, very cool.

No. I can handle four (Primary casting modifier or half level, whichever is greater) and the vitalist is never counted against this limit. So Acorn, Adharc (which can be dropped as a free action if necessary), - , - .

But adding is a standard action.

Maybe Esmeralda should have shown empty hands rather that drawing a weapon to diplomacize. ;)

I think you mean Haazek, but I will outline Helac's actions just in case.

Helac spends another moment in concentration attuning the hobgoblin to his mental web thinking to himself I hope he does not attempt to resist. Standard action.

That looked painful. Free action

Feeling along the tenuous mental connection, Helac gauges Haazak's wound. Health Sense. Swift action to gauge the relative health level of collective members. Determines the amount of damage, in hit points, that an ally has taken.

If the enemies are close enough, Helac will move through friendly squares and attempt to tumble around to the caster, hopefully avoiding any AoOs. Move action.
Acrobatics: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (14) + 8 = 22
If looks like the enemies are too far away for that, he will just stay where he is and wait for things to shift around a bit.

Fort Save: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (5) + 5 = 10

Acorn shields himself with his arms, expecting the worse, but something seems to absorb most of the damage. The after effect however, was not blocked. Acorn's stomached roiled from the hit. It felt like a bear had nailed him good. Bear. Yes a bear will do.

Cast Aspect of the Bear. +2 to nat armor and +2 to CMB. Move action to draw whip and move to within 15 ft. Unless of course Entangle would work in the tunnel. I assume it doesn't but if I can I would rather use that first. DC 14 Ref and set in a way that gets both Ogre and caster.

sorry for taking so long the forums going down ate my first attempt to post. Now where do I now this guy from, was he a Knight Arcane, or was it at that Festival in Fairhaven. Wow, that degenerated into violence quickly. Gedeon moves forward drawing his sword and cautiously begins casting a spell.
Move action: Move forward and draw sword
Swift action: spend arcane point to enhance sword +1
Standard action: cast Color Spray (dc14 Will) defensively trying to get both the ogre and the human without hitting others. If I can only hit one go for the ogre.

Stop this foolishness, we are not your enemies!
Concentration: 1d20 + 3 + 3 ⇒ (13) + 3 + 3 = 19

"The bow was to defend myself against your threats! I have seen too many people like you during the last war!"

Esme readies a shot (only if the human casts again):

Esme unleashes an arrow at the human.

Mswk composite longbow/PBS: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (1) + 7 = 8
Damage: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7

Wow. This campaign has started well with rolls (4,1) ;)

I think you mean Haazek, but I will outline Helac's actions just in case.

Yea, you are right. The current initiative order is

Revion--21
Haazek--20
Helac--13
Esme--13
Ogre--10
Acorn--7
Human--5
Gedeon--4

Revion tries talking to the ogre(taking any other actions?).
If not, Haazek's turn.

"We know you are aligned with the Summit Road!"
cries the human. "And everyone knows that they are part of the Inspired!"

"Wait, really?"
The ogre spins around, surprised. Evidently he hadn't heard all of his companion's conjectures.

If the ogre spins around, does that mean I'm not going to provoke from backing away from him? Just in case, an Acrobatics check:

Acrobatics: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (3) + 7 = 10 Ye gods that's awful.

And I will also be manifesting defensive precognition, granting me a +1 insight bonus to AC and all saves.

"I'm no quori, and I had no beef with you until you tried to cave my chest in!" By the Six, that hurt! I hope he doesn't decide to try that again...!

Male Elan Vitalist: 5 | HP: 38/38 (+20 temp hp) | AC:17 T:11 FF:16 | CMD:12 | Fort: +8(+12) Ref:+2(+6) Will:+8(+12) | Init: +3 | Perc: +12(+14) |

Well in that case... reposting, with a subtle but important change. :)

Round 2 (Following the Surprise Round).

Helac drops Adharc from the collective free action and spends another moment in concentration attuning the hobgoblin, the woman, and the half elf to his mental web thinking to himself I hope they do not attempt to resist. Standard action.

As a standard action, a vitalist can join a number willing targets into his collective. . . .

That looked painful, good sir.

And after looking at the Acrobatics rules, one can only move half speed while tumbling, which doesn't give Helac enough movement to get anywhere, so I guess he stays put.

Haazek attempts to leap out of the ogre's reach, but leaves himself vulnerable!
1d4 ⇒ 2d
The ogre, however, takes no notice of Haazek, and has instead started yelling at the human incoherently.
"Banana Pear Peach Plum Prune?"
"No, I'll explain after I have banished these interlopers!" the human snarls back.

Helac focuses his energy, then tumbles towards the human.
Esmeralda readies to fire her bow.

The ogre continues rambling about fruit:
"Cantaloupe! City! Watermelon!"

Knowledge (Arcana DC 24:
The ogre is acting as if its mind has been distorted magically. Possibly a Confusion spell or some variant.

Knowledge (Psionics) DC 22:

The ogre is acting as if its mind has been distorted psionically, possibly with an Id Insinuation power or some variant.

Acorn transforms to partially resemble a bear!

The human, threatened by Helac, hops back 5 foot step before conjuring up a cloud of fog! The fumes from the fog are tiring to those within it...
Fog surrounds him in a 10 foot radius, as the fog cloud spell. Anyone who enters it (including Helac, who is on the edge) should make a DC 16 fortitude save or be fatigued.

Gedeon creates a flash of light which surrounds the deranged ogre:
will: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (17) + 5 = 22 but has no noticeable effect.

End of the round, back to Revion's turn!

Status:

Round two.

"By Dol Arrah's bewildered mind, must everyone want to make trouble?"

"Pardon me for a moment kind Ogre Sir, your associate wants to hurt us."

Revion makes his way into the cloud to human's last location while drawing the Elven Curve Blade. When he sees the human, Revion attacks.

Power Attack: 1d20 + 8 - 1 ⇒ (13) + 8 - 1 = 20

Damage: 1d10 + 9 ⇒ (10) + 9 = 19

Knowledge: Arcana: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (5) + 7 = 12

Fortitude: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (20) + 5 = 25

Human Alchemist 3 | HP 21/21 | AC:17 Tch:13 FF:14 | CMD: 17 | Fort +4 Ref +7 Will +3 (+2 Divination) | Init +3 | Perception +6

Round Two

Esme's readied shot misses as the human casts his fog cloud.

Mswk composite longbow/PBS/Alchemical Weapon: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (19) + 7 = 26
Damage: 1d8 + 3 + 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 + (2) + 3 = 14

50/50 miss chance (high good for player): 1d2 ⇒ 2

Knowledge Arcana: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (16) + 9 = 25

"The ogre is under some kind of compulsion. Do not harm him!"

Esme looses another arrow at the spot the human ended before casting the fog spell. This time she adds acid to it.
