Klodd Rockhopper |
Klodd is just drifting off to sleep, when another Mule enters the building. With a loud snort he turns over pulling his cloak over his head.
"One of the mules can take my watch. They'll probably keep me up half the night baying and crunching things anyway".

Castle Caldwell, the Chapel
Sunset, Day 1
Victor and Ayita manage to make it to the southeast entry tower before the sun sets, and retrieve Ayita’s rope. The two make it back to the chapel just as the last bit of light of the setting sun fades away.
When Niall goes to get the Donkey and Cart, he is surprised to see that Victor is leading the animal back to the chapel, and for a moment there is a bit of confusion about exactly who owns the mule. Niall is sure it is his mule, and after a few exchanges with Victor it becomes clear to Niall that Victor is simply expressing a “group ownership” mentality and actually doesn’t mean to imply that the mule now belongs to him simply because he was generous with his own mule.
But then, when Victor walks away with a smile, Niall begins to wonder if the two men are on the same page at all.
Victor agrees to stand the first watch, staying near the open door so that he can watch the mule and the cart parked across the entryway.
The evening grows darker as the time passes. The first moon is low on the horizon, but it is half full and there are now clouds tonight, giving the courtyard an eerie, shadowy nature. Suddenly, Victor thinks he sees a strange, somewhat large dog prowling in the distance, near the stone wall some sixty feet to the south
Stealthy Creature is Stealthing: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 5 = 7
With Dim light conditions prevailing, Victor has Disadvantage on Perception Skill Checks, so he cannot rely on his Passive perception to tell him that he did or did not actually see something. he will have to make a Perception Skill Roll, with Disadvantage if he wants to have a chance to spot what is headed this way...

Victor von Gladden |
"Awake! We are attacked!"
Victor rushes to the mules aid, sword drawn!

Victor rushes out into the night, and when he comes close to the donkey he sees a dark shape below the animals legs. It looks like a hairy, medium sized dog, in the dim light.
Victor can roll his initiative against the monster. He will fight pone round of combat while the others wake up. The rest of you can roll Initiative, and I will give Ayita and Niall a +2 to their rolls.

Initiative: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6
His dreams tangled in a vision -- or memory -- of hand-to-hand fighting at a blood-stained ford, Magnus is slow to wake. Slowly, the shouting outside the shrine begins to drown out the shouts and screams in his dream, and he staggers to his feet, naked steel in hand.

Round 2…
Ayita barrels past Perry and when she is next to Victor she sees it. A small black hairy shape, no larger than a hunting dog, scurrying around on the ground near Victor’s legs
She tries to kick at it, but it is too fast, then she swings down with her sword, cutting off one of the creature’s legs
When the large spider like thing seems to stagger, Victor pins it to the ground with his sword. The beast quivers for a moment, and is then still as stone.
Perry runs up to the two and looks around in the dark, waiting for his eyes to adjust he asks what is going on
Lijan finally wakes and comes to the door as Klodd and Magus move out into the darkness.
The spider is dead
Victor von Gladden |
Victor shrugs, "I thought it was bigger than that! Still, it would have poisoned the mule if we did not stop it. We should be wary for more of them".
Klodd Rockhopper |
Klodd mumbles under his breath... something about darn mules more trouble than they're worth, then returns to his snoring within about 5-minutes.
Victor von Gladden |
"Huge spider. I mean really big. It uh, deflated when I slew it, single handedly..." he explains to Lijan ready to come off of his shift and get some rest.
Victor von Gladden |
Victor calls back ,"You are welcome!"
Magnus Ravenson |
"Morning," Magnus says, stretching. "Whether it is good remains to be seen."
"Whose turn is it to burn the porridge? And shall we head back to the main house, or devise another plan for the day's labor?"
Victor von Gladden |
Victor stretches, "No further adventures last night eh? Good.
I think the main house should be our first target".
Klodd Rockhopper |
Klodd grumbles and tries to pretend that this is a nightmare where everyone is cheerful and eager to awaken this early in the morning, but finally gives up, lurches clumsily to his feet, and heads outside to make water.
Ayita - First to Dance |
"Whose turn is it to burn the porridge?"
"Porridge? I've prepared the most delicious raw spider leg, made from the freshest giant hairy spider available. It's been meticulously de-haired and stuck on a stick. I can pair it with a savory roast spider abdomen seasoned with local flora for a most incredible breakfast!"
"I agree, we should return to the manor house today. If the craven squatters were too cowardly to seek us out last night, I fear them not."
Victor von Gladden |
"The spider legs sound fine for me, assuming you've cured the poison seeping into the meat. Though I will pass on Klodd's generous offer..."
Niall Amakir |
LOL
Niall grumbles and hurries to begin burning some porridge for those who don't want spider leg poison, like himself...
" I'm keen to head back to the Manor House as well. Would you like porridge Valarie? "
Valarie Gordaue |
Yes that would be perfection Valarie says with a smile as she stretches.
When Perry mentions daylight, Valarie, says rather conversationally, between small bites Oh, its still pretty dark in the house during the day, maybe not as bad at night, but all the windows are boarded up, so the only light you get is what sneaks in between the boards. The first day I was here, hmmm, I tried to enter the house but I spotted some goblins in the hall in the distance, and quietly made my retreat.
Victor von Gladden |
Victor looks at Valerie, "Will you be coming with us? This time you will not be alone."
Perivius "Perry" Lalomaundriale |
"No problem there," Perry answers. "There's a few of us who can provide light magically, so we should be fine."
Standing, Perry surveys the group. "Everyone ready?"
Valarie Gordaue |
Wolves? Valarie says when Ayita speaks up. I was only in the hose for a short moment, but I don't recall seeing any signs of wolves in the house. They must have gotten in there very recently
She looks at Magnus while he is matter-of-factly stating the need for good light while rolling up his gear, and answers Victor without turning toward him
I was going to start working on clearing the damaged stairs on the tower right next to the chapel here today, but I suppose I could follow you all into the house if you think you need my help?
