Access to racial boons when GMing a con for the online region is available, but doesn't operate as a part of the Alien Archive rotation. Rather, online play will have access to a couple races in AP #2: LINK

As for where to find the alien archive boon (where we get access to racial boons as a player), see here: LINK

Alien Archive question.
Do the scenarios have to be completed by one character, or can you get these signed off when you play any character?

The wording is "each time you play an adventure for which you have not previously received credit on this boon.." but as it is a standard starfinder chronicle format, it has a character number listed as well as an organised play number.

Venture Lieutenant, Play by Post (online)

The character number is for the character you apply it to, i.e. the character of a race it unlocks.

Huh, it seems a little backwards that a player can get credit towards a race regardless of where they play, but a GM cannot. Oh well.

Hi folks, I'm in the middle of GMing my first PbP (SFS 1-01), and I have a couple of questions. Hope this is a fine place for them:

1) I have a player that disappeared a couple of weeks ago and hasn't responded to PMs since then. They completed up to halfway through the second of four missions in The Commencement. Assuming they don't come back, do they get even partial credit for the scenario? Assuming they DO come back, we're currently halfway through the last mission, does that change anything (can they still get partial credit)?

2) I haven't GM'd PFS or SFS offline either, so I'm not sure exactly how standardized you need to make the scenarios. Is it acceptable to add flavor/RP beyond the bounds of the scenario, as long as it doesn't interfere with anything mechanical or any of the written content? (Specifically, I'm thinking of cameo-ing one of my SFS characters as the announcer during the junkrace part of The Commencement. This'd just be for flavor's sake, like this.)

1) I'd take my guidance from page 11 on the guide "Extended play"

Multi-session adventures and Extended play wrote:

...If they have completed less than half of the adventure, they receive

half of the adventure’s credits, XP, and Fame, and they gain full
access to the items that they found during play. If they have
completed more than half of the adventure, they receive full credit
for the adventure.

So they would get half xp and fame. Which as there is no slow progress in Starfinder (yet) effectively means no xp, but still show it as a half.

Note that this guidance was written with adventure paths in line, where in a face to face situation, players may not come back for the whole adventure. However it seems applicable to online play and regular scenarios as well.

2) Yes! RP is what it is all about.

Lack of Slow Track doesn't mean you can't get 0.5 XP and 1 Fame for partial credit.

Uhh... I don't see how you can give 0.5 XP. You either get 1 XP or you don't get XP.

Starfinder Roleplaying Guild Guide wrote:
A PC receives XP only if he survives the scenario or completed at least three encounters over the course of the adventure and is raised from the dead by the scenario’s conclusion. A character earns 1 XP for completing a scenario. Mark this value in the shaded XP Gained field (I) and initial the adjacent box.

I guess the issue here is the PC does survive the scenario, but doesn't participate in much of it.

I believe the Multi-session adventures refers to APs and Modules. While I agree that the lack of slow track doesn't mean you cant get 0.5 XP increments as a part of an AP or Module, I don't think that affects the 3 encounter rule. When I have had players drop, I've tallied up the rewards accumulated thus far, checked the 3 encounter rule (diplomatic encounters count), and reported accordingly.

Venture Lieutenant Play by Post PBP GM kit

MULTI-SESSION ADVENTURES AND EXTENDED PLAY:
Roleplaying Guild characters can only played in one scenario or Adventure Path at a time. Characters are considered to be playing in a scenario or Adventure Path until they receive a Chronicle sheet for sanctioned content. GMs are advised to work with players who do not finish a scenario or Adventure Path to receive their Chronicle sheets. Players may receive partial credit for Adventure Paths based on the amount of sanctioned material they completed. If they have completed less than half of the adventure, they receive half of the adventure’s credits, XP, and Fame, and they gain full access to the items that they found during play. If they have completed more than half of the adventure, they receive full credit for the adventure.

FILLING OUT A CHRONICLE SHEET:
Step 2: Award the character XP. A PC receives XP only if he survives the scenario or completed at least three encounters over the course of the adventure and is raised from the dead by the scenario’s conclusion. A character earns 1 XP for completing a scenario. Mark this value in the shaded XP Gained field (I) and initial the adjacent box.

See spoilers for relevant rules from the Starfinder Society Roleplaying Guild Guide.

Play by Post is extended play and thus falls under Multi-session adventures and extended play. However there is only allowance under those rules to receive partial credit for Adventure paths, not for scenarios.

Therefore we need to revert to the section about filling out a chronicle sheet which says that a PC only receives XP when he completes at least three encounters (and these are all encounters, not only combats). Therefore this PC will not receive XP if he does not return. If he does return and participates in the encounter I would give him full XP and other rewards.

The weird thing is that the guide does not say anything about credits, fame and reputation for players that do not complete the three encounters. For credits I would deduct credits for the encounters not completed. For reputation and fame: I would use the same approach as for XP.

Seaweed Leshy Technomancer 1 / Game Master 3 | Maps: (RotRL Handouts) | (RotRL Maps) | (DoF Handouts) | (DoF Maps) | (DA Maps)

Thanks for the answers all! I think my missing player has completed only two encounters right now.

Spoilers for 1-01 The Commencement:
The Wayfinders alien diplomacy as encounter 1, the Dataphiles 'forging Ceren's death' bit as encounter 2. The player stopped showing up right at the start of the fight against gangers to protect Ceren.
So, to confirm if I understand this correctly. Assuming they don't return, I give them a chronicle with:
- 0 XP, fame, reputation
- Full credits minus the credits for all the encounters they missed
- No boons (?)
- Item purchase unlocks only for the encounters they were part of (?)

It almost seems like it'd be better not to give them a chronicle at all so they can replay this scenario with the character at a later date!

Venture Lieutenant, Play by Post (online)

Unfortunately, not giving a chronicle and letting them replay isn't an option.

Venture Lieutenant Play by Post PBP GM kit

Commencement & Boons:
"So long as the PCs have completed the primary success condition, each PC receives the Faction’s Friend boon on his Chronicle sheet. If a PC accepted Guidance’s subdermal implant, he also receives the Marked Field Agent boon on his Chronicle sheet. Finally, if a PC purchased a copy of Strawberry Machine Cake’s newest album, he also receives the Star Sugar Heartlove!!! boon on his Chronicle sheet."

Sounds like the only boon he can receive is the marked field agent boon.

Sorry, I just meant that Slow Track didn't have anything to do with it. I was imprecise.

Regarding Commencement What is the Organized Play definition for an encounter? Traps are often their own encounter, which would bump him up to 3 encounters.

Good Evening Everyone,

A bit new to Paizo and PBP. Is there a way for me to "save/bookmark" this campaign "Castamirs Flaxseed Station"? Currently I'm clicking around the forum till I end up here.

You'll sometimes see this referred to as ninja-dotting, BTW.

Curious - Starfinder has been out for a few months now. Are there enough level 3 characters available to support a 3-6 scenario yet? In particular the Sanctuary of Drowned Delights is one I had in mind.
I know there are some tables in Outpost - which took a while to fill up, but outside of that?

To be Level three in Starfinder almost (but not quite) requires having done the first level of the AP. I am pushing now to get Charli there because I want to be in that table with Kate Baker!

There are a few locally. With only 2 evergreen adventures available and the AP pretty much requiring you play it at the highest possible level it is hard to play high with anything but a main character. And you will often be playing with the same few players wherever you play.

That being said, If we can get a table together within a week or so I can juggle some local plans and play Sanctuary of Drowned Delights pbp with my soldier 4 instead.

Edit: There are 2 full tables of it during outpost so clearly there are a fair amount of 3+ players. Maybe Kate will be willing to run another table or two of it after Outpost 18 is over.

    That can definitely be arranged!

    Hey everyone,

OutPost is only a month away, so we believe everyone has had a fair chance to sign up for games. Therefore, we are making the following announcement:

    *****************OutPost Announcement*********************
Limits on tables per player for all OutPost tables are now removed. You may sign up for more games if you believe you are able to manage more.
    **********************************************************

Note: please do not sign up for more games than you can handle. We realize some players thrive on many games at a time, but everyone has their limit.

I'm not sure if this question has been asked/answered already: If I've completed a SFS scenario like 1-03 and received the boons on character 701-1, can I complete 1-03 again on character 701-2 and have 701-2 receive the boons as well?

    VC - Sydney, Australia

    No.

You can only receive the credit once for playing, and once for GM'ing.

    Lantern Lodge

    SFS 05-99 BftB

No. You may only (aside from The Commencement) credit each scenario to one character by playing it. If you GM the scenario you may then apply the credit to a second character.

Does anyone yet have a level 3 Starfinder character who has exclusively PbP credits? That would take 6 scenarios, at 6 weeks each would be 36 weeks. Starfinder hasn't been out that long yet (Gencon started 26 weeks ago).

edit: it could be done if it was partly GM credit, because that can overlap.
