Cireth Aldwulf |
Shocked by the sudden explosion Cireth just stands there. Still, the explosion does something funny - it seems to go around Cireth, only the faintest licks of the flame reaching him.
Resist fire 5, bringing the damage down to 1

The pit appears to be deep enough that you can't tell what's in it unless you stand adjacent to it. But the breathing sounds human.

well, if it is a Demon pretending to be human, we need to get rid of it. Also, maybe, it is a long stretch, but an adventuring group just happened to go here hours before we did.
Our Mysterious Benefactor |
Cireth's stone falls for a few seconds, then clatters at the bottom. The breathing stops and as anyone leans over to look in, they can see that the rope is tied to the grate and seems to have frayed about six inches down. Thirty feet below lies a crumpled heap of a body, surrounded by a variety of objects: a crossbow, a mace, a length of frayed rope, and a key ring.

Caesare Montoya |
Looking at Ezechias Caesare points down. "An undead would be noticeable to your ... special powers... wouldn´t it? If it was a guardsman... we should get him up and bury him!"
Xerice Lockhart |
Xerice casts detect magic down the well.
"Let's not get hasty with trying to properly bury every set of bones we find in here. This place still has two ghosts we need to banish. However the keychain could be useful. If anyone has a grappling hook we could try to fish it out."

Our Mysterious Benefactor |
As the paladin begins to scan around for evil, he encounters it, rising from the round next to the pit! The shadowy figure of a man holding a handaxe that drips blood, his leg twisted and broken. It grins darkly, its voice murmuring over and again "Chop you cut you lop you up."
Initiatives!
Cireth: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (12) + 5 = 17
Zanu: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (9) + 9 = 18

Ezechias: 1d20 ⇒ 19
Cesare: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (14) + 4 = 18

Round 1:
19 Ezechias
18 Zanu and Caesare
17 Cireth
11 Sonny
8 Lopper
3 Xerice
Everyone save Xerice is up first!
Ezechias |
Ezechias draws the haunted handaxe they've found earlier before striking the Lopper. Move N, N while drawing weapon, then single attack.
+1 handaxe, PA: 1d20 + 7 - 1 ⇒ (1) + 7 - 1 = 71d6 + 4 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 4 + 2 + 1 = 10
Xerice Lockhart |
booooo! :P
Caesare Montoya |
Caesare looks at Zanu perplexed. "Do you have other spells, too?

Our Mysterious Benefactor |
Knowledge Religion: The Lopper appears to be some sort of wraith, but perhaps different from the standard model. He's definitely insubstantial, though Ezechias' attack with the handaxe seems to have been solid enough, or perhaps not solid enough to make the Lopper seem nervous.
Zanu's acid splash hits, but it does very little damage. Ezechias' swing of the bloodied handaxe misses, but the wake of its passing causes the Lopper to stare at it greedily. Caesare's swing passes right through the Lopper, doing no damage, but the holy water it sprinkles seems to burn and cause the phantom Lopper to twitch in pain.
Sonny and Cireth are still up!
Sonny Wright |
Sonny shouts, "Lopper it's time for your final judgement." and raises his holy symbol and channels his gods power, (excluding Xerice as she might enjoy it too much)
Positive Energy Channel Damage DC: 15: 2d6 + 4 ⇒ (4, 2) + 4 = 10
Our Mysterious Benefactor |
Sonny's burst strikes the wraithly Lopper! Will: 1d20 + 7 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 7 + 2 = 17, but the horrible grinning thing seems to resist the bulk of the blast!
Cireth, when you post, we'll add you in!
The Lopper smiles and swings his axe at Ezechias! Melee Touch: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (10) + 7 = 17 The axe seems to be made of shade-stuff, but it still causes Ezechias' skin to slice and burst, dealing 1d6 ⇒ 2 negative energy and 1d6 ⇒ 2 bleed damage! The blood spilled by the attack seems to flow into the wraith, healing it!
Cireth and Xerice are up!
Xerice Lockhart |
"Bloody incorporials, you need magical weapons for them. Sonny you focus on damaging him. I will make sure Ezechias can still stand after suffering it's attacks." Xerice shouts and channels a little positive energy which heals most of Ezechias' wounds. As she moves closer to Ezechias with the wand of cure light wounds in her hands.
channel positive to heal: 1d6 ⇒ 3
Perhaps try to attack it with your weapon after you enhanced it with magics Zanu?
Zanu Turok |
But not disrupt undead?
nope it did not click with me that carrion crown horror=undead, or the very least was only expecting a minor few. The good news is that I know all level 0 spells and can prepare 4 each day. When I was looking through and your character said something, I realized that should have been a spell to prepare.
at xerice, I could, I'm deciding on melee or not, which I might do.
Our Mysterious Benefactor |
Xerice heals the wounds of Ezechias, causing his bleeding cuts to heal over. The Lopper doesn't seem particularly bothered by this, swinging his axe in a casual manner!
Round 2!
Everyone save Xerice is up. Cireth, please take 2 rounds worth of actions when you post.
Zanu Turok |
zanu moves up, does an arcana pool and attacks with his masterwork cold iron scimitar hit: 5 + 1d20 ⇒ 5 + (13) = 18
dmg: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6
editoh right, thanks xerice.
Xerice Lockhart |
If you made it magic with arcana pool, don't forget to add another point of dmg ;)
Cireth Aldwulf |
Cireth will grow claws and attempt to move around it, striking at the creature.
Grow claws, all attacks with arcane strike, bludgeoning/slashing/magic.
Round 1
Attack: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (5) + 5 = 10
Damage: 1d4 + 3 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 3 + 1 = 7
Round 2
Claw 1: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (16) + 5 = 21 +2 if flanking if possible
Damage: 1d4 + 3 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 3 + 1 = 8
Claw 2: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (12) + 5 = 17 +2 if flanking if possible
Damage: 1d4 + 3 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 3 + 1 = 7
Ezechias |
Ezechias renews his efforts to strike down the Lopper.
+1 handaxe, PA, flanking: 1d20 + 7 - 1 + 2 ⇒ (12) + 7 - 1 + 2 = 201d6 + 4 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 4 + 2 + 1 = 11
Caesare Montoya |
Switching position with Cireth Caesare grabs another vial of holy water and throws it at the enemy.
"In the name of Pharasma I call you Anathema!" Attack: 1d20 + 4 - 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 - 4 = 42d4 ⇒ (1, 1) = 2
Sonny Wright |
Heeding Xerices orders, Sonny channels energy again, excluding Xerice.
Positive Energy Channel Damage DC: 15: 2d6 + 4 ⇒ (4, 1) + 4 = 9
Reroll 1: 1d6 ⇒ 6 Total 14 damage DC 15
I see in his Will roll there was a +2. If that is channel resistance he doesn't get it against my channels due to my domain.
Sun's Blessing (Su): Whenever you channel positive energy to harm undead creatures, add your cleric level to the damage dealt. Undead do not add their channel resistance to their saves when you channel positive energy.
Our Mysterious Benefactor |
Zanu's magically enhanced sword finds purchase in the phantom flesh, dealing some damage to the wraith!
Cireth's claws fail to find purchase on the first round, but find some ethereal hold the second round, tearing deep strips of shadowy stuff from the wraith Lopper.
Ezechias' strike with the handaxe finds the wraith as solid as flesh, and cuts deeper than Ezechias expects, dealing an additional 1d6 ⇒ 4 damage! The Lopper lets out a sound that is between a moan of pain and loss and pleasure as the axe strikes him.
Caesare's holy water misses the wraith and splashes Ezechias, doing no damage to the holy warrior. Some of the drops do hit the wraith and cause part of him to boil away.
Sonny calls upon his holy powers and the wraith struggles to resist 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (14) + 7 = 21 His will is strong and the wraith does manage to weather the blast!
Still grinning, the Lopper swings his axe at Cireth! Melee Touch: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (6) + 7 = 13 The axe seems to cut at his flesh even as it passes ethereally through him, dealing 1d6 ⇒ 5 negative energy damage and 1d6 ⇒ 6 bleed damage! Once more the blood flows to the wraith through the air, healing him!
Xerice is up, then Round 3!
Xerice Lockhart |
Xerice uses a wand of cure light wounds to heal Cireth.
clw: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7
Our Mysterious Benefactor |
Cireth's bleeding wound stops and heals as Xerice waves her wand.
Round 3!
Everyone is up save Xerice!
Cireth Aldwulf |
Still grinning, the Lopper swings his axe at Cireth! The axe seems to cut at his flesh even as it passes ethereally through him, dealing 1d6 negative energy damage and 1d6 bleed damage! Once more the blood flows to the wraith through the air, healing him!
I believe that this actually misses. Mage armor helps against incorporeal touch attacks from wraiths and ghosties and such, making Cireth's AC 15 in this case.
Claw 1: 1d20 + 5 + 2 ⇒ (13) + 5 + 2 = 20
damage: 1d4 + 3 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 3 + 1 = 8
Claw 2: 1d20 + 5 + 2 ⇒ (9) + 5 + 2 = 16
damage: 1d4 + 3 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 3 + 1 = 8
Ezechias |
Ezechias swings at the Lopper once again, only wishing to end this fight as soon as possible.
+1 handaxe, PA, flanking: 1d20 + 7 - 1 + 2 ⇒ (15) + 7 - 1 + 2 = 231d6 + 4 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 4 + 2 + 1 = 11
Our Mysterious Benefactor |
Cireth, gotcha. I was going by your header, I didn't remember the mage armor spell. It's corrected in the wraith's HP now.
Zanu once more slashes the wraith with his magically enhanced blade, carving away some of its shade-stuff.
Cireth's first claw seems also to cut into the wraith, but the second barely misses!
Ezechias' swing drives the handaxe into the Lopper's chest, dealing an additional 1d6 ⇒ 2 damage as the handaxe bursts into cold light! The Lopper looks down at the axe buried in its chest, and grins once more, but blood fountains from his neck as his head falls from his shoulders and his whole body dissolves into a wave of phantom blood that disappears as it washes over the floor!
The Lopper is no more!
Three phantoms down! Two remain!
In the Oubliette, you find several items of value: 120 gp, a broken masterwork heavy crossbow, a masterwork longsword engraved with the words 'Till the end', a +1 heavy mace, and a stone of alarm in addition to a ring of keys.
Caesare Montoya |
Feeling better that together the party had defeated another of the infamous six, Caesare grins and claps Ezechias on the shoulder.
When the items are brought up he smiles sadly at the engraving.
Our Mysterious Benefactor |
The axe is still a +1 handaxe and the bloodstains on the handle can now be cleansed. It still deals +1d6 damage to headless or beheaded creatures.
Xerice Lockhart |
"Well done Ezechias, 2 more to go. Shall I keep the heavy mace with me for now? It might be useful for later if we encounter more ghosts."
