1 person marked this as a favorite.

Before we begin, let me say that I have tried this before, and it did not go well. I found it difficult to dedicate the necessary time to updating the game, and beyond that, I hadn't GMed in a very long time, and was intimidated by the scope of the endeavor and by PCs who generally new the rules better than I did. We did not finish the first adventure. That being said, I have more recently been running a game with my friends on Friday nights. It's being going well. I'm loving it. I want more. More, in fact, than can be reasonably provided by my local group. Hence this new game.

I've always had a taste for Gothic horror, so it should be no surprise that Carrion Crown is my favorite AP. I want more Pathfinder, and I really want to run this game. I hope you are all as eager to play in it.

I am going to be looking for 5 or 6 players, depending on what types of applicants I get. As is now standard on these boards, I'll be biding my time here, looking for character proposals that are thought out and will fit in with the flavor of the campaign.

Before we even get to the mechanics of character creation, I would like anyone interested to provide the following...

1. Your character's race, class, name, and archtype.

2. A moderately detailed background for your character. I don't need a life-story, but it should be clear that you've really put some thought into them. Where did they grow up, how did they acquire their skills (my games assume the PCs are exceptional [though not superhuman], even at 1st level), and what drives them? Certain vagaries that can be worked into the campaign, such as an unknown enemy, a mysterious omen, or suspicious parentage, will be looked upon favorably.

3. A brief "current sketch" to explain what the character is doing now. This should give me a basic idea of their personality, and how they might develop.

4. An explanation of how they know Professor Lorrimer, regardless of whether or not you are using a campaign trait.

Alright, so onto character creation rules. For now, not all of this is necessary, but hey, it never hurts to get an early start, right? Before finalizing anything, please be aware that I will be laying out my house rules in the Campaign Information in this thread.

1. 20 Point Buy

2. The Core Rulebook is entirely open. Except where otherwise laid out in this thread, the APG, UM, UC, and the Inner Sea World Guide and Primer are pretty much all open. Please ask me first before using material from other sources (I will likely allow it, but I like to know what I'm getting into).

3. The following classes are worth mentioning...
Gunslinger. Disallowed. Guns do exist in the game, but they aren't common - especially so far from Alkenstar, and as such it's not feasible for an entire class to be based around them. The Musketeer and Trophy Hunter archtypes ARE allowed.
Summoner Disallowed. I would rather not deal with an eidelon in a PbP game.
Antipaladin Obviously disallowed.
Clerics and Inquisitors In this game, these two classes MUST serve a deity. The favored weapons of certain deities have been altered slightly. See campaign information for more details.
Paladins Your patron deity, if you have one, must be LG, NG, or LN, and we will be using the paladin codes presented in Faiths of Purity.
Samurai, Ninja, and Monk Allowed, but use caution. They will need a very good reason to be here, and a pretty compelling backstory. I include monk in this list because more than any other standard PC class, they are out of place in a Gothic Victorian society. Similarly...
Radical Archtypes Use common sense. I ask players interested in Carrion Crown to meet me halfway here and accept that there are certain archtypes that simply don't mesh with the flavor of the setting. Something like a Saurian Shaman or Spellslinger would shatter feel. Use your own discretion about what you feel these may be.

4. In addition to the seven core races, the following races are allowed, only as exotic as they are, only a few are likely to be accepted.
Aasimars.
Tieflings. It is worth noting that cosmetically, this game assumes the subtler fiendish deformities of the 3rd edition tieflings, not the half-fiendish appearance that is more akin to those from 4th edition D&D.
Dhampir But please come up with something original.
Changeling

5. Two traits. The campaign traits from the Carrion Crown Player's Guide are available, but not manditory.

6. Maximum starting gold for your class.

7. All alignments are open, but if you want to play an evil PC, you'll need to present them in such a way as to convince me that they are not a sociopath and are going to be able to function both in society and with the party.

8. The feats Leadership and Antagonize are disallowed.

One final consideration. Many people are drawn to the 4th book in this AP due to its Lovecraftian influence. Be aware that I do not treat Lovecraft with the same reverence as many of them, and will take liberties concerning the lore and the entities drawn from his works to make them, at least in my eyes, mesh better with the rest of Golarion.

Recruitment will be open for anywhere between a few days to a week, depending on how much interest is shown and how good the applications are. I'll keep you posted on how much time is left as this becomes clearer.

Have at it!

Dotting! I have been eagerly awaiting a Carrion Crown game for an alchemist(beastmorph) idea I have.
I'll see if I can't get him statted up and fleshed out later tonight (we're a bit too busy at the office today for me really be able to focus on it).

Color me very interested!

Oh! I also neglected to mention two things.

1) I live in China, so I'm on GMT + 8. Shouldn't be a huge issue for a PbP, but please be aware.

2) I'm still trying to decide what to use for maps. Currently, it's looking like Imgr pics of a Gametable map (which I'm still learning the ins and outs of), but I'm certainly open to suggestions. I'm not too tech-savvy, but I've heard that some people use Power Point, and was wondering if Open Office might be able to be used in the same way?

im interested but i recently started to play pathfinder so can you give me some basic info on the ap or a link to it

Here is a link to the Player's Guide for this AP. It's a free download, and gives you all of the basic info you should need for background, but I'd also strongly recommend reading up on Ustalav. Rule of Fear would be the ideal sourcebook, but the Inner Sea World Guide is good too. If neither of those are an option, you can always check out PathfinderWiki.

This is a post for interest and a submission!

I already have a human Witch made for CC, Adwa Namandi. He has no archetype. His background is featured in his profile, but the short is that he is a shaman/witch doctor from a Mwangi tribe. The Professor came to study the Juju zombies that his tribe deal with. Eventually, he left with the Professor to study in Absalom. He would be there learning until news of the Professor comes around.

Lantern Lodge

doting for now will be back later with char. thinking tiefling mnk/clr of irori (unarmed atk favored weapon)

Grand Lodge

I would be interested in playing. this would be my first PbP game on paizo's site. I will work on a character submission tonight.

I've been trying to get in a successful Carrion Crown pbp for a long time. Might as well give it another shot.

Race: Half-Orc
Class: Sorcerer (Orc Blooded)
Name: Talok the Halfman
Archetype: N/A

Background:
Like so many half-orcs in the world, Talok's life began in violence. He was born in Ustalav of a poor farmer's daughter who had been assualted in a raid by orcs. The daughter died at childbirth and the midwife, who had years before grown accustomed to such abominations, took the child to an elderly farmer without children and gave it to him to raise as a future farmhand.

Talok was worked hard for most of his childhood. Then, just as he was entering his teens the farmer's wife died. In his grief, the farmer followed soon after and Talok found himself alone in a cruel world.

He survived the next several years with luck and persistance, growing to be both large and strong as he reached young adulthood. Though he was always treated with fear, hatred and suspicion, as time went by the fear became the predominate reaction to his presence and he began to find work as a caravan guard from time to time. He had a certain presence to him that intimidated those who might seek to rob his employers, a trait he found quite valuable.

Eventually he came to work for Professor Lorrimer who looked past his ferocious exterior and offered him respect for his hard work and dedication. It was Lorrimer who first recognized the sorcery that lay waiting in Talok's blood; the half-orc had never before given the opportunity to develop a relationship with others and it had not occurred to him that not everyone could see the delicate auras of magic or that his ability to deflect blows was magical rather than simply the product of a toughened hide.

After working with Lorrimer, Talok's fortunes changed. A recommendation from the Professor carried a certain weight in certain circles and he found it easier to find work with caravan masters and the occasional merchant who were able to respect him for his skills in spite of his tainted blood. Though he is reasonably capable with a greataxe, Talok is hired more often for his intimidating presence. He prefers it that way for he'd rather avoid battle when he can. The few things the Professor was able to tell him about the magic in his blood fascinates him and he spends much of his time considering how he might be able to develop those abilities.

Thanks for your consideration. Should I be chosen to create a character out of the concept, I plan to make him reasonably effective (for first level) at melee combat but overtime he'll learn to rely more on his skills as a sorcerer.

Would a modified Natural Lycanthrope (werewolf) template be Ok?

Tezzeret Aldreg half-elf ninja (like it better than the rogue)
background

:
Having both parents killed at a young age he was forced to fend for himself, often stealing what he needed to survive. As he grew so did his skill and he knew this, often stealing more valuable items more for sport than necessity. His skill in remaining undetected caught the attention of a passing man who offered him a job. The job was to steal a certain paper and to make sure no one saw him. Tezzeret wanting to test his skill accepted right away. On the job he had no trouble getting in a finding what he needed. Once he got the paper he noticed a presence behind him. when he turned around he saw the man who gave him the job. Surprised he ran thinking he was set up, but the man followed closely behind. Eventually Tezzeret gave up and decided to fight. But the man stopped in front of him and began to speak. He told Tezzeret how he was a ninja and heard of his skill in stealth and how this was a test to see if he had what it took to become the man’s apprentice. After hearing him out he decided to accept his offer and was taught the ways of the ninja. After learning all he could form his master he went on his own. During one of his travels he met a man being attacked by a couple of robbers. He quickly killed them and was about to go on his way when the man stopped him and introduced himself as Professor Lorrimor. He thanked Tezzeret and offered him a job as a guard on his journey. Tezzeret thinking it could be interesting accepted. The professor then called on him for any jobs that required his more delicate touch or skills. Having been a couple of years since he last heard from Professor Lorrimor, Tezzeret is working as a hired sword.
tell me if this is acceptable and if so ill draw up a character sheet

Hi,

I want to apply for this PBP as well. I'm getting sort of experienced in PBPs on the boards and have started a Carrion Crown PBP that did not go past the introduction scene due to GM time constraints.

The character I created is a ranger dhampir Arlan Lorrimor-Varshorf with strong links to the professor.

Here is the background for your review:

Appearance:

Arlan is a lithe man with shoulder length dark hair and piercing ice blue eyes. Clad in worn but well-cut clothes, he looks like a man who has known better times, but won't give up. His skin and traits are infused the health of the youth and he does not look a day older than twenty. People unfamiliar with him remember his harmonious traits and his smooth and charming behaviour. However, the first glance is deceiving and for those more observant, there is something amiss. He moves more like a hunter on the prowl than like of a well trained warrior and the charm he diffuses feels more like the fascination the prey feels for its predator.

For the people familiar with the late professor Lorrimor, the eyes, the nose and the set of the jaws is very familiar and with a little imagination, he could be taken for a younger version of the deceased.

Background:

About a 100 years ago, in Caliphast, a vampire from one of the noble families let herself be seduced by a charming bard Stephen Lorrimor. The tryst was but a moment for the undead but lasted two long years. As they were about to part in good terms, the vampire, Lariza Varshorf, well versed in the arcane arts decided to try to give life as she has seen written in some ancient text. The ritual was complex and demanded a willing progenitor. But nothing in it requested the human partner to be aware of the objective.

Twenty four month later, as the unsuspecting father had departed a long time ago, Lariza gave birth to a healthy dhampir boy that she named Arlan. As Dhampir develop as slowly as elves do, Arlan spent most of his first century as a recluse in his family manor, hiding from the light and playing with the servants and spawns of his mother. One of them, a former gladiator even taught him how to use weapons and shields and he quickly realized he was natural with these weapons as it took him little time to master it.
Fascinated by this meld between life and unlife, his mother spent a lot of time studying him and submitting him to further arcane experiments. However, she did not manage to pierce the secret of his existence. Bored by this failure, Lariza eventually stopped visiting the boy and left him to himself, persuaded that one of her spawns would eventually terminate him as she focused on other projects. However, even if he was self-taught, Arlan had learnt a few things about survival and had been planning his escape for a long time. As soon as it was clear her mother had left him to die, he escaped the house, killing a guard in the process and set out to discover the world.

At first, life was thought, but more than a hundred years of life with vampires and spawns had taught him the essential of survival: when to hide or fight, when to threaten or charm and how to find or steal food…. All the fights he had observed or even taken part in had also taught him where to strike for maximal damage. But survival was not the objective and after a few months, he was direly in need of a trade to pass winter.

The opportunity arose when, well hidden in an attic, he heard a town crier looking for competent trackers to recover stolen paintings and antique books that were stolen the night before. If he remembered well, he had seen a large group of people carrying heavy and fragile packs just a few minutes after the theft. He was sure he could identify them if he were to meet them again. With this knowledge and that if the direction they took, he was able, after a few days, to find the thieves' hide-hole and loot. This first job paid well enough for him to rent a place, buy decent clothes and weapons and gave him a good reference. He quickly found other jobs and became known as a discreet but affordable investigator that would work night and day and with a knack to find whatever was asked of him.

During his down time, and contaminated by the contact with humans, he began to wonder about his origins. His mother and her line, he knew about, but what of his father if he had one? Researching libraries was a good way to escape the sun at midday but did not lead to any information about himself. Well, he discovered he was a dhampir and found about his reaction to positive energy, but could not find anything about dhampir creation. However, during one of his forays into the university library, he was approached by a student asking him if he was related to the famous Professor Lorrimer. This name did not ring a bell, but, when presented with a portrait of the professor, there could not be doubt they were related. Obviously, the professor was much younger than him, but there had to be a link somewhere.

Contacting the professor was an easy task and due to the professor field of study, arranging a meeting was easier. Knowing his approximate age, Arlan determined that only Stephen Lorrimor could have been his father. A fact that was confirmed by some of the bard composition relating his adventure with a vampire. For the professor it was both a shock and a blessing as meeting one's great uncle is not so common, especially when he looks younger than your children. But it also gave him the opportunity to study a willing dhampir even if he agreed to keep his research secret for Arlan safety.

When Arlan came back to Caliphas, he had the "pleasure" of a surprise visit by his mother in his own room. The meeting started cold and formal as Arlan was scared for his life and that of the professor. But she just came to inform him he had passed another of her "tests": being able to survive alone and to find his origins. As long as he was not dishonouring his family, she considered him now grown and able to take care of himself and would leave him alone. Arlan did not believe her a minute but went with it.

Over the last year Arlan meetings with the professor grew less frequent, as the professor had other interests but they kept in contact regularly. When he received a letter announcing the death of the professor, Arlan took the first coach to Ravengro to attend the funerals and pay a last homage to his great nephew, conscious that his life-span would see him lose friends and relatives to the passing of time.

I'd like to present Dantrian Almaeus for consideration. Backstory, appearance, and foundational crunchy bits are in his profile.

Afraid not, Belle. For this sort of thing, tieflings, dhampirs, and changelings is as far as I'm willing to go - anything else I'd prefer to keep within the domain of monsters. However, I have seen characters who use certain archtypes, like a shapeshifter ranger, to imply faint lycanthropic blood.

Leon Ravencourt, freehand fighter, devotee of Pharasma. Young nobleman raised to combat horrors from beyond the grave. Please consider me for all your monster-slaying needs.

Background up, mechanics will be up by the end of the night.

Connection to professor Lorrimor added to background

Campaign information is up. Some of it is still in the works, but house rules and information on posting and whatnot is there if anyone cares to check it out.

Read your campaign info. I love your change to Weapon Finesse. I do something similar for my games.

I'm curious how your Weapon Finesse change works with Dervish Dance.

My build is a fencer-style dex-fighter with some plans to take a couple levels of monk for increased versatility and cool-factor (sort of a Victorian fencer/brawler as a monster hunter). I was hoping you'd let me take Dervish Dance with a Rapier, or just use Scimitar stats for a fencing sword. I had planned on asking later, but since your campaign info made it relevant now...

Actually Dervish Dance was the major catalyst for this change in my games. Dervish dance is simply makes the scimitar a finessable weapon in your hands (and allows you to add your full dex instead of half your dex).

As for applying it to a rapier, the question I generally ask myself before making changes like this is "is the change necessary?" In this case, I think weapon finesse allowing a portion of dexterity to damage for only one feat eliminates the necessity for such a change, so for now, I'm afraid I have to say no, but I will keep it in mind later, and if it seems damage is becoming a problem for your character, we can certainly reconsider.

I'm sorry if I seem stingy, it's just that in the past I took a "Sure, why not" approach to everything my players put forth, and it lead to some serious Monty Haul campaigns, so I've been trying to take a more measured approach lately.

No problem. I'll just leave Dervish Dance out of my build plans for now.

More interested in the animal form than the Hybrid form.

Hi again.

Is the background I've put in enough or do you want more informations about the chararter build or a full character sheet ?

Nope, what you've given is more than sufficient.

Sczarni

How would you feel about the Artificer from tome of secrets? I could easily place him in University of Lepidstadt, which would connect him with book 2. No I don't know what happens, I just know the adventure takes place there.

Dotting for interest.
Right now I'm planning to submit an Paladin of Iomedae (Sword and Board, no archetype, though I may later take up an oath if it fits the campain). I'll post him once he is finished.
Since from august on I'll be in Taiwan for a year, GMT +8 sounds nice for me.

Submitting my Changeling Oracle of Life for consideration.

I'm interested in submitting a scrol scholar cleric or a inquisitor of Pharasma. I'll get something written tomorrow.

Hey Chops! It's Ragnar. :)

I almost went with an Inquisitor of Pharasma also, but decided to just be a smart fighter type. Feel like linking our backstories? (assuming we both get into the game)

Lorebane, having been in a long-running PBP with eakratz, I can tell you that he's reliable and awesome.

Here is my Tiefling CLR of Irori(also will have some MNK).

Do you allow the fiendish heritage trait?
I'm rolling on chart in case its a yes but have back up feat to replace it if you don't.
1d100 ⇒ 46
1d100 ⇒ 10
1d100 ⇒ 68

note my only sources are PFSRD and CRB, I don't have any other books.

ps, I totally forgot my background on my notebook, I'll have it up as soon as its typed.

Kleiner Teufel

Female Tiefling Wizard. Transmuter, Ban Illusion/Enchantment

Kleiner is the granddaughter of a socially inept succubus library assistant who moved from Tian Xia with her husband/master, a powerful archmage in hiding who goes by the alias Patch. Kleiner grew up in a library setting, never really learning how to deal with people. she spent most of her time studying the arcane in secret under her grandfather's superivision. her grandmother, who went by the nickname Koakuma, frequently recieved visits from professor lorrimore when he needed access to her husbands archives for educational purposes.

Appearance;

Kleiner is a petite framed figure with shoulder length sinfully scarlet hair and scarlet eyes, her skin is soft and fair, with a pair of leathery batlike wings, each wing being 2 feet in diameter and sprouting from her back. her usual attire consists of a white button up shirt with a black ankle length skirt, a black vest and a red tie with a black pair of boots. over her eyes is a black framed rectangular lensed glasses and over her shoulder is a bag of assorted books.

Kleiner currently works as a library assistant alongside her grandmother, arranging and dusting bookshelves, preparing tea (not quite the best at it) for her grandparents or avoiding undesired social interaction to browse a book or few.

Would like to join as Maedre Tollmar, half elf female Bard worshipping Calistria.

Maedre always suffered from an acute wanderlust, and she came to know Prof Lorrimar's name and works from a stranger's tale in a calm tavern. At first she thought nothing much about it. Then, months later, she found a book praising the Professor's deeds in a library, and perused into it from sheer curiosity.
Collecting infos about Lorrimar became something like an hobby for her, and she learned to respect him and his work without ever having the chance to meet him actually.
Puttin" some money aside, sometimes working the bars as an entertainer, sometimes as a Sacred Prostitute, she started to dream about meeting the man, and to write about him the greatest songs.

Alas, as she was on her way, she learned about his untimely demise. Most of the road's dirt being already eaten, she wanted to pay her last respects to Lorrimar, maybe to write a mourning song that would establish his memory for eternity (or at least gain her a few coins...)

Physically, Maedre is quite short for an half elf, being closer to a human woman in size than a full elf. She is dark haired, wearing her long hair in a ponytail. She enjoys form-fitting (sometimes even revealing) clothes, with a wasp-alike brooch on her breasts holding her top. She has gray eyes, not a very interesting color in her opinion, so she tries to take full advantage of her mouth, enhancing it with make up.

(Will post stats later, as I'm not at home with my books)

Well, well. Small forum ;D

That sounds fun. I'll get something written up by tonight. I am leaning towards Inquisitor (because I like lots of skill points), which would synergize well with your monster hunter theme.

GM Lorebane, in your houserules under deities and favored weapons, does that also apply to inquisitors since they gain proficiency in their favored weapon? (not that an inquisitor could turn undead anyway)

Helkrix Qi Baunt present to spread the word of Pharasma.

I am familiar with the campaign, I am actually running a pbp myself, but will not let that influence how Helkrix is played. I used a lot of tiefling details from the new "Blood of Fiends" player companion.

This is a character I've tried in a few PBP CC campaigns, but they keep ending very quickly. A half-elven alchemist-Chirurgeon/Vivasectionist (It makes sense with the background). He would mostly fulfill the rogue/face role. I would take a rogue level somewhere, but keep alchemist for the rest.

Hello, I'd like to submit Calavas Orlosky, half-elf sorcerer for your approval.

Background/Meeting the Professor:

Calavas had spent most of his life in the grand city of Absalom, one of many other children at the Hope Ascendant Orphanage. While certainly not the only half-elf present, his slight build and generally passive demeanor made him a frequent target for the common sort of teasing and bullying that takes place at such places. Calavas quickly learned to anticipate such shifts in mood from his fellow cast-asides, and when escape wasn’t an option, his surprising talent for getting past locks (particularly those leading to the pantry, and the cookies) spared him more than a few shoving-abouts. However, it was his handiness at the former which would change his life.

While returning from a day-trip to the park, their carekeeper Hannah noticed that Calavas was not in the small mob of children returning home. When she asked the others were he was, they mentioned he had wandered off when they had tried to get him to ‘play’ with them. Assigning the group with another guardian, she backtracked toward the park, only to see Calavas talking eagerly with an old man over a puzzle box of some sort. She quickly moved to apologize and collect the boy when, to her amazement, Calavas gestured, and the box slowly lifted into the air, allowing the boy to fiddle with the workings underneath. When it settled, the box glowed briefly, then shifted opened to reveal contents far greater that it should have contained. The older man patted the beaming Calavas on the shoulder, and seeing Hannah standing nearby in shock, stood and extended a hand. “Good day madam, is this one yours? My apologies for holding him up; Professor Lorrimar, at your service.”

As it turned out, the professor had been meeting with some associates from the Pathfinder Society, in regards to a few items recovered from a long abandoned lodge in Westcrown. Among them was a strange puzzle box, and while he had been assured it was harmless, the professor was having a devil of a time getting it open. He had set the box down to rest his fingers when he noticed a small lad studying the box most intently, his eyes aglow with magic. The professor was working between asking a question and reaching for a wand when the glow abruptly faded and the boy asked, “Can I try?”

Current Events:

The discovery of Calavas’ magical talent quickly found him removed from Hope Ascendant and placed under the tutelage of Karias Tarvi, an associate of Professor Lorrimar’s and longtime member of the Pathfinder Society. Calavas has recently sought membership himself, having become enamored from the tales read in the Chronicles and recounted from Karias’ ‘younger days’. Occasionally, he daydreams about such accounts speaking of his own adventures, but for now, he’ll be satisfied with a positive review from Lorrimar on his paper discussing variant applications on bags of holding. He’d sent it months ago, but the professor must be involved on some sort of extended project; he’d hinted as much in his last letter. Should hear back from him any day now…

Crunchy Bits:

I'm looking to build more for utility and support from the start; Calavas is a scribe and tinker first and foremost, and the most 'adventuring' he'd have done up to this point would be assisting Karias with a tricky artifact or magical item. If things change for the character in-game, or other needs take priority,
that can be adjusted. Long term progression, I'd like to work towards the Pathfinder Savant prestige class (Link), but if you're not comfortable with that, I'll likely stay pure sorcerer, with at most a dip into rogue. All other pure crunch is reflected below.

[This looks awesome, and I very much want to join. I am alright altering character concept however needed in order to be involved.]

Professor Charles Ulysses Hawthorne. Botanist, blight druid, and old acquaintance of Professor Lorrimor. Further information on character page.

Also, is there anything else I should know about CC that isn't included in the Player's Guide?

EDIT:

[Placeholder for full backstory/statistics]

Professor Hawthorne is a crotchety old dwarf who has been too long removed from civilized society, having spent the past fifty years of his life engaged in researching the dead lands of Virlych and coming to terms with his developing divine powers (which have been twisted by his exposure to and interest in the often less-than-verdant biomes of Ustalav. Hawthorne prefers the company of plants and fungi to any other living thing, and is the epitome of a gruff dwarf, with some spiteful sarcasm and cynicism thrown in for good measure. The death of Petros Lorrimor, one of Hawthorne's few real friends in the entire world, was one of the only things that could have convinced him to make the journey to Ravengro. Despite his dismissal of most other beings, Hawthorne is loyal when his friendship is earned, and he feels he should pay his respects despite personal discomfort. He also (although he would never admit it) has been somewhat shaken by the realization that with the death of the professor, not a single person cares at all about him.

Now i have finally finished Ildeon Horlindan, Sword and Board Paladin of Iomedae.

The information can also be found in this Alias, for those who prefer it to a mythweavers-sheet.

The uncle can be used as you see fit, either dead, undead or alive and with every agenda you like.

Should you have a problem with the 100g from the Ustalavic Noble trait (since one of the campain traits gives 150 I don't think so), I could also hold it fully back until later, either way I only spend half of it on some Holy Water.

We should all seek closure at the death of our friend Professor Lorrimor. But take comfort knowing that The Lady of Graves will judge his soul justly. A black rose will be placed on his coffin to aid his journey.

Here is my submission of Eddard Hildebrandt. His character sheet is partly finished, but the backstory is done although I may do some minor tweaking (especially if you pick mine and Leon Ravencourt). I just wanted to get it out here for consideration while I have the time.

Background:

Eddard is the offspring from the dalliance of a Taldan noblewoman and a charismatic elf bard who were sent to Ustalav. From a young age, he longed to learn the bardic arts and become an arcane duelist, like his father. Unfortunately for him, he has none of his sire’s charms nor his grace. But he does have tenacity and strength. He instead trained with his uncle to learn the Taldan dueling form known as Rondelero. Although he still has a ways to go before he masters the form of the falcata and the buckler, he is still proficient to wield both with skill.

Often, he would train and duel with Ustalav noble sons, one of which was Sir Leon IV of the Ravencourts. The two became fast friends and often talked of adventures and becoming heroes. As they grew older, they both realized their dreams, albeit in different ways. While his friend apprenticed with his uncle, he joined the Church of Pharasma and become an inquisitor for the Lady of Graves charged with the extermination of the undead abominations which plague the country.
During his training in the field, he was nearly killed by a strange undead creature that the church had not taught him about. When he described the creature to his superiors, they too had not heard of it. He was soon approached by Professor Lorrimor who interviewed him about his experience, taking down every detail Eddard could remember about the thing. Through the next several years, the boy and the professor maintained correspondence not only about the study of undead and other creatures, but also just as a budding friendship. Of late, though, the professor’s letters have stopped without explanation.

Eddard was devastated with the professor’s death, and rushed to Ravengro posthaste.

Doomed Hero:
How's it going? I briefly included a relationship between our two characters. If you want to look through it and run with this idea, go ahead and expound on it and I will also amend it as we build.

BTW, how is nightflier's game going? When he restarted it, I wasn't ready to learn all of his houserules.

Also, I can't let DH's (Leon Ravencourt) shout out go without returning the favor. His storytelling and teamwork are topnotch. The pbp we were in together has been my favorite to this date.

Alright, my background is up.

Background:

Scara's mother, Eldrid, was a half elf ranger that was quite often hired to be a guide for Prof. Lorrimer. During their trips Scara would stay at the church of Irori, but when Scara turned 10 she started going on the trips as an "assistant" to her mother and being an inquisitive child she often got into conversions with the Professor on many different topics. At 18 she started the training to join the clergy of Irori and during this training her mother went on another trip with the professor but something went wrong and Prof. Lorrimer himself brought Scara, Eldrid's bow.

Overview:
Professor Charles Ulysses Hawthorne, born Stigrim Kazagun, has always been an outsider. He was orphaned at a young age, although to this day he does not know how or why his parents died, and has never attempted to find out. He left his home city of Taggoret shortly afterwards, feeling that he wasn't meant to live his life surrounded by stone and and metal. While Hawthorne has some appreciation for tunnels and stone (he finds darkness highly soothing), he honestly prefers the open air. Even as a child, he was more likely to wander in the mountains than to explore the tunnels beneath them, and he has a fondness for hiking in hills and mountains to this day. Hawthorne doesn't fit in with other dwarves, who often feel slighted by his change of name and departure from his homeland. Even among those who do not know his story, dwarves have a difficult time understanding his fascination with living things as opposed to solid stone and metals, and find him unsuitable for conversation on any topic they bring up short of plants. Other races see him as just another dwarf who needs to lighten up and enjoy himself a bit. He doesn't even fit in with other druids, who find his tendency to work with the less verdurous aspects of nature to be at best strange, and at worst a betrayal of their ideals. Other blight druids, on the other hand, tend to be too violent and death-obsessed for Hawthorne to feel comfortable around them. The only place Hawthorne really feels at peace is in the company of plants and fungi, or with another who shares his affection for nature without judging him for his specific interests. To most anyone else he is the epitome of a gruff dwarf, with spiteful sarcasm and cynicism thrown in for good measure. This means of interaction with his surrounding world has heavily shaped his life. Despite having lived for over a century and a half, Professor Hawthorne has had few friends. He used to move from place to place frequently, studying at half the universities from Highhelm to Riddleport, and doing research in nearly as many forests, swamps, and hills along the way. Hawthorne did train under a druid, and in fact attempted to learn the druidic way on several occasions, each time feeling that he just needed a little more time to really understand it. In the past few decades, as Hawthorne has been in Ustalav, and more specifically Virlych, his potential has finally been fulfilled, albeit somewhat twisted by his interest in and exposure to the less-than-healthy land.

Current Events:
Hawthorne has been long removed from civilized society, having spent the past two decades years of his life engaged in researching the dead lands of Virlych and developing his newly discovered powers. The death of Petros Lorrimor, one of Hawthorne's (very) few real friends in the entire world, was one of the only things that could have convinced him to make the journey to Ravengro, as he has been quite enjoying his almost complete lack of contact with the outside world. Despite his dismissal of most other beings, Hawthorne is loyal when his friendship is earned, and he feels he should pay his respects to the professor despite personal discomfort. He also (although he would never admit it) has been somewhat shaken by the realization that with the death of the professor, it is likely that not a single person cares at all about him. He is considering giving the world and the people in it a second chance.

Professor Lorrimor:
Hawthorne and Lorrimor met for the first time at a university in Magnimar, where Hawthorne had recently completed his professorial training and was conducting research in the Mushfens. Hawthorne, impressed by the scholar's breadth of knowledge and tales of adventure, became friends with Lorrimor, and ended up traveling with him on his next journey to Ustalav, having become fascinated with the tales of the blighted land that could be found there. The two parted ways after arriving, and while they did correspond from time to time, Hawthorne did not see his friend again until six years later, when the professor was trapped by a rockslide in the Hungry Mountains, far from any beaten paths. Purely by chance, Hawthorne was hiking nearby, and discovered his friend near dead from dehydration. He was able to save Lorrimor, and the incredibly unlikely rescue solidified their friendship. During the next few years Lorrimor consulted with Hawthorne several times on matters of mysterious natural occurrences as well as generic botany, but over time Hawthorne became more and more deeply involved in his work with Virlych, and more cut off from society. During his most recent monthly trip to town for supplies, Hawthorne received the news of Lorrimor's death and the summons to his funeral.

Isn't Tezzeret the name of a planeswalker from MtG? I haven't played in years, but that name sticksout to me for some reason.

yeah was stumped for a name so i looked around my room and saw him lying on my desk

Scara: I'm sorry, but I'd rather avoid fiendish heritage for now, however. It's really chaotic, and not all of those options seem balanced - I'd rather wait for Blood of Fiends (I plan on buy thing PDF as soon as it's released) and see what's in there. However, for now, if there are any of those that particularly grab you, we might be able to discuss including them as alternate racial traits, as per the Advanced Player's Guide.

Eakratz: That had completely slipped my mind! Yes, those apply to Inquisitors as well. Give me a moment to revise a few of those in order better mesh with that class. Should be done within the hour.

I'm interested too and it seems you are lucky enough to be able to choose your players.

I've never played PbP before and pretty new to PF, just started a virtual tabletop with some old gaming friends but I need to game more. However I have been playing various RPG's for years and can easily commit to posting regularly each day and I'm based in the UK.

I'll post some character thoughts later. If there any character gaps then I'd be happy to consider them?

Just a heads up, we've got a pretty healthy crop of potential players now, so I'll be selecting 6 of them towards the end of the weekend, likely Saturday evening (which may be Saturday morning for may).

EDIT: I've also just made a few updates to the favored weapons section of my house rules, which may affect/interest a few of you.

Unfortunately for him, he has none of his sire’s charms nor his grace. While at a young age it became clear to him that he would never boast the skills with magic and song, he ran away from home and fled to the streets of Oppara only to be captured by river pirates and forced to swim the channels with nothing but a dagger, loincloth, and black oils to help conceal him in the dark.

Luckily for him, and unfortunate for the pirates, that despite the years, his father never gave up investigating his son’s disappearance and found the crew that had captured his son. After capturing the pirates and publicly executing them, he took his son back and volunteered to act as diplomats in the country of Ustalav. Once there, Eddard’s father enrolled him with an elite cadre among the church of Pharasma to become one of its inquisitors.

During his training, he often went out on ‘hunts’ with a nobleman tracker by the name of Simon Ravencourt. On these adventures, he befriended the nephew of Sir Simon named Leon. The two became fast friends and often got themselves in more danger than their charge could imagine possible. As they grew older, they both realized their dreams, albeit in different ways.

During his training in the field, he once was separated from the group and nearly killed by a strange undead creature that the church had not taught him about.
