Not as in depth as some of the others, but the advantage is that it leaves room to add extra details during IC conversation.

Background and Description:
Storian Belaric is a traveller of sorts, mostly because he's never really had a place where he's felt at home. He has been an orphan for as long as he can remember, and was kept as a ward of a temple to Cayden Cailean. Storian was a big lad, even from a young age, and had a fair amount of trouble controlling his aggression; particularly when people deliberately tried to goad him.

A visiting priest named Ulfric pulled Storian to one side after he'd gotten into something of a scrap and broken another lad's jaw, and asked him if he'd like to learn how to fight properly. When Storian said he already knew how to, the priest chuckled, and said, "Oh really? Show me." What happened next was something of a humiliation; Storian throwing punches that never seemed to get near his opponent, until suddenly the priest floored him with a punch to the jaw.

Storian agreed to be taught, and not very long after he began traveling with Ulfric, he began to hate him. Still, he had to admit that the priest was a good teacher; he certainly learned quickly under the harsh tutelege. His preferred weapon was a two handed blade; something which made good use of his prodigious strength, and he focused his defensive training on getting out of the way, so as to make up for his lack of a shield.

Storian finished his training under the priest during his twentieth year; a combination of Ulfric's failing health and the fact that Storian was now capable of holding his own against him. He gave Storian some gold and supplies, and said that while he was going to return to the temple, Storian should do some more travelling; see more of the world and cause - or remedy - a little mischief while he's at it.

Storian discovered that one way to fund his travels was to tag along with merchant caravans as a guard, or in this case as a member of the ship's crew. He hasn't had to use his training particularly often, but he suspects that could change.

Storian is around six foot six with long, dark hair and blue eyes. His build is fairly brawny, which belies a sharp mind, and his skin is tanned from years of travel. Aboard the ship, he doesn't tend to carry his blade or armour around with him as they'd get in the way of his duties; they are instead stowed in his quarters. Instead he dresses much as the rest of the crew does, keeping all of his clothing and equipment in as good a condition as he can manage.

Here's my sorcerer. I still need to finish buying equipment and choosing traits, and I need to flesh out the backstory, but the basics of it is there.

i've chosen my two traits (Boarded in Cheliax (Pezzack) and Reactionary) and selected humans as my favored enemy. at first the prospect of humans seemed kinda evil but it works quite well together with her backstory in the duskwalkers.

i've also decided to call her backstory, description and personality sections "finished", although they may be subject to minor tweeking later on. i'm a bit concerned that i've produced abit more quantity than quality.

1) picky request - can you slap "infernal" in front of "sorcerer" on there to help me remember?

2) you've used a 15 point buy, according to my calculations; you have quite a bit more growing to do, young man!

3) you've still got Concentration as a skill. It's a basic class ability these days, equal to caster level + casting stat modifier.

I'm interested to note how, despite having an almost entirely "good" party, we have a lot of fiendish influences and edgy moralities floating around. I like it!

** spoiler omitted **...

Nice, simple, straightforward. I approve. As will Capt. Kovack, no doubt.

Everything looks good from here. I'm curious - are the Duskwalkers from a Paizo source?

Hmm, I'll have to go over my math again. I was in a bit of a hurry when I put the stats together, so I'll look them over and make any necessary corrections.

It might be too that you forgot the human +2 racial bonus to any one stat? I was assuming that you put it into Charisma, but if you didn't include it at all, you'd be at 20 points - but would still have a +2 to drop somewhere.

EDIT: Actually, I note that you have your Charisma modifier listed as a +4, even though your Charisma is a 16 on the sheet... did you actually mean to raise it to an 18 and not get it switched? It's the kind of mistake I've made any number of times before...

Female / Female Human: Jambala Jaeg Descendent) and Deinonychus Saurian Shaman LVL 4

Got the companion updated and finished, if there isn't anything else needing tweaking, then Atzi is complete. =D

The one question I had though, is if my animal compaion will have a seperate initiative?

If not then i'll have to change its feat to something else.

If so then Improved Initiative will work just fine. =)

Tried to clean up the character sheet some, hopefully I didn't mess you up. ^^;

Thanks Dm! I am looking forward to playing. =D

Carpy DM wrote:

no, not that i am aware of. although they are kind of a ripoff of the Fangwatch from the Darkmoon Vale book. i wanted to use them first but it felt abit to far to journey from darkmoon vale in andoran to the coast of cheliax without gaining a level or two.

so i decided to set the background in the forest region closest to Pezzack.

although i think i'm going to have to change the name since there is already a group called the duskwarders in the kaer maga sourcebook. i chose the name duskwalkers because i already had Natalyah's nickname "duskfoot" decided, but now that i think about it it's kind of a lazy solution. i'm gonna try to come up with a better name.

EDIT: before i forget again, i'm abit at a loss to what deity to bestow on Natalyah. i was thinking of Gozreh, but skimming through the article in "Racing to ruin" (don't worry, i've stayed far away from the adventure bits:) it seemed to be centered on the sea, and abit on the "hippie" side with the seaweed woven into the clergys hair.

what would be the best deity for a non-hippie tree-/animal-hugger?

I run animal companions as using their own initiative, but remember that you have to actually give them commands using Handle Animal - otherwise, they act according to their usual instincts. (That normally defaults to the "defend" action.)

The first response I had was Erastil, and I think that would have fit with her before she left the [whatever they will be when they aren't Duskwalkers], but now...? Gozreh's "red in tooth and claw" angle seems like it might fit better after all.

Speaking of which, Quetza needs some tricks known.

i've settled for Gozreh, and i'm gonna keep "Duskwalkers" name as well. i just can't come up with another that i like.

i'm really looking forward to the game. are we set to start tomorrow?

Got that fixed now xD. Tricks known = Defend

Here's the alias, I'm just finishing up the final stuff, as needed. I'll be adding to it through today as I've time to do so.

Quetza can know up to 6 tricks plus the bonus trick it gets from being an animal companion. You may, if you wish, assume that you've already trained it to know those si tricks, or you can leave some "slots" open for future training, according to the usual rules and time requirements.

My bad >.<; so unused to having an animal companion. Well I've selected the 7 tricks for Quetza. ^^ Thanks for the help.

Looking over my stats, I think that where the confusion was stemming from was that I had forgot to add my +2 to Charisma on my stats. It should now represent 20 point buy, I fixed the Concentration thing, and added Infernal to my class tag. I still need to finish my traits, put a little more detail in my background and a few other minor book-keeping things but other than that I believe I'm ready to go.

And.... game on!

Male Human Fighter 1

Oh, and in case there was any confusion, my character hasn't actually gone charging at the crab; he's stood next to the pile of equipment (Move action to get there) having just pulled out his sword (Standard action).

I have to apologize profusely. Work has decided my life is theirs, and I have not found time to dedicate to this in the last 3 days, ultimately. I will bow out to another player who can give this group the attention it needs. Thanks for your consideration. :) Happy gaming!

Sorry to hear that, and I hope they give you your life back soon. Good luck!

Uchendu is definitely still here, and very much interested - I will need to tweak him a little (mechanically), but the appearance/background/motivations are ready to roll.

Given the party make-up we have already, I will go with the 'Angazhan' build, if that is okay - I think he will fit nicely in a 'Heart of Darkness' style campaign ;-)

I expected that you would.

With that thought in mind, though, I have to point out that inquisitors have similar alignment restrictions to clerics in terms of the spells they can cast. As such, I'm extremely skeptical that Anghazan would grant you protection from evil.

Male Half-Elf Oracle (Juju) 5

Ah, yes. That annoying 'Good' descriptor.

I will change that to 'Shield of Faith'.

Uchendu Kybwa'ka wrote:

Cool. Other than that, while I have some questions about your build (the EWP: elven curve blade in particular seems like an odd choice, since you're not going anywhere near it in your actual build), I have no other problems, so you're free to join the game thread as soon as you are ready.

Male Half-Elf Oracle (Juju) 5

It is a matter of forward-thinking.

At 1st level, with 140gp starting gold, I do not have the funds to afford an 80gp weapon.

Also at first level, you need to get your AC as high as you can, until you can lay your hands on a suit of full-plate - so for the moment, I will use a shield.

I figure by about level three, I will be able to afford (both in terms of cash, and AC-wise) to use Elven Curve Blades.

Grand Lodge

Wow - that was fast to be one down. Looks like I'm next in line if someone else gets out. I will have a look how the current party looks like and will have a few options at least partly fleshed out.

Just my 2p - I'm still watching in the background.

Since Arctaris hasn't posted yet, I'm going to assume Daemien is still unconscious for now to keep things moving. Arc, when you get a chance to post, we'll just assume that's when you woke up and you can take your actions immediately.

Everyone else can take their second round actions now. (I'm still more or less ignoring initiative for this fight, so post in whatever order you feel like.)

By the way, as this is my first pbp game, any feedback or tips you might have during the game will be greatly appreciated.

Everybody's learning here. I'm open to feedback as well, if anybody has any!

Actually, you probably have a good point...

I have taken the liberty of altering my equipment slightly - only some of the items that I have as yet not used have been changed; I still have the morningstar and shield.

For example, I thought that a pet monkey might be appropriate for Uchendu :-)

I do have a first draft of a character done. A young female wizard. It still needs refinement but I have the basics about backstory and stats. Do you prefer me to wait or should I start posting to give you time for comments.

In case healing drops out off course I could completely make a new character.

Everyone else

Great first fight.

Will post the build in a moment. I wanted to clean it up - but will post what I have right now.

Amisi here. This is a very rough first go. I had planned throughout the day to flesh her out, doing some clean up - do some formatting etc. So appology for the formatting and missing bits.

But I guess it is easier to do so while you already can comment.

Opposed schools: Need to think about these.

Feats - need to add them. Guess Eschew Materials is a must - so that would leave one remaining.

Equipment - I will have to look what to add. I hope to select multiple level one scrolls would be fine with the background / trait. After all - that's how she has spend likely her time.

Oh - and with that background it makes sense she 'missed' the first encounter. Even if she was conscious early enough - she might have just watched from safety. She will need to get used to play a more prominent role.

Amisi

Osirion

Testing out dice before using them in earnest

1d20 + 3 ⇒ (13) + 3 = 161d6 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5

Osirion

If any of the other players has suggestions for the build (what is needed most) - let me know.

Crucial right now are the opposing schools. Currently I play a Transmuter with opposed enchantment, necromancy. I want to ensure Amisi is different - but also that she is useful for the group.

Deviner isn't up for change (unless Carpy tells me so) and having Enchantment is a must with the background. Other bits are probably more flexible.

Amisi won't ever be useful in the front line - so I need to ensure she will be useful from the back. She will have lots of spells and I tried to ensure she can talk with people. She won't be as good as a sorceror in this regard.

I tried to build in some flexibility into future spells. She will learn what is needed for the group.

Osirion

Okay - looking deeper into it - could be convinced to change from Deviner to Enchanment school. Should still work fine with everything and might even make more sense.

I still need to ponder about the opposed school. Unfortunately some spells like Cause Fear are in Necromancy.

Edit: Sorry Carpy, everyone else - this is still work in progress as quickly as possible. Did change to Enchantment school and have now all 8 spells

Still need favoured class bonus - but need a last run through with the skills before I decide to get +1 HP.

One head's-up I would offer - there are a lot of vermin and plant creatures throughout this Adventure Path, which are immune to mind-affecting effects. (I'm basically just repeating the warning from the Player's Guide here.) This is not to say "don't play an enchanter," but it is intended to prepare you for what's coming. I strongly support the idea of flexibility in your casting and spell knowledge as well; that will be quite useful.

Multiple scrolls are fine.

The only Chelish city mentioned in the Getting the Cargo Through trait is Corentyn - I'll assume that's where you got on board.

Ironically, the two character sheet formats I personally like best belonged to the two characters who have dropped out - nevertheless, you might take a look at Daemien's and Aysleigh's profiles if you want to see my personal preference. That said, format your sheet however you want - if I need something changed so I can read it, I'll say so, but I'm pretty flexible on that kind of thing.

Other than that, we just need your final touches - math, favored class, etc. - and we can all Amisi done.
