Lorelei follows, staying near to Ebirah. "Take it more slowly Ebirah, you still seem a bit wobbly from that attack."

Lorelei scans the area as they walk, looking for any clues as to what happened and whether anything has been left behind.

Growing closer to the colony you can see that the buildings are constructed of rough timber or mud brick set in wooden frames, with pitched thatch roofs. The construction looks new, rough and unfinished.

As the three rush forward, three more then stand up on the top of the roof, hurling daggers. Ebirah is struck by a savage blow from a spear in melee, while a thrown dagger grazes Gorglumch's side.

Realizing that they are under attack, Valdern points at one of the creatures. "Få ham!" As he does so, the phantom next to him moves up to the one he pointed. Using his arm, the phantom deliver a powerful attack in the strange goblin's chest. Valdern isn't sure, but he thinks that he heard some ribs cracking. As for himself, Valdern gets behind Ebirah. He focuses his thought, and then touches the tall blue warrior. Healing energy passes from his hands to Ebirah. "That's all the healing I had, go get them!"

Kela's fears solidify as more strange creatures appear. She takes a quick step away and summons a long tendril of water which she flings at one of the things on the nearby roof.

These are monkey goblins, an offshoot of goblins evolved to live in high trees. They have prehensile tails which can carry objects and they can climb very well.

Gorglumch's shot flies over the goblin's head, but everyone else connects. Elia's missiles finish off one nearly killed by Kela's water blast, while Ebirah, Bhookaaj, and Rhyfedd take out another on the ground. Lorelei's icicle impales a third goblin, but it somehow remains standing.
The goblins, upon seeing the ghostly phantom, immediately turn their attention to it, scoring two hits with spears and screaming madly, but their weapons have no effect.

"Monkey goblins? Ah! As if regular goblins weren't annoying enough already." Valdern, spear in hand, tries to maneuver himself into a flanking position. While he is good at making weapons, using them is another story. The awkward trust of the spear doesn't even come close to hitting anything!

The party slays two more goblins, and the remaining two, upon seeing that the phantom is seemingly invulnerable, turn and flee. You can pursue if you like.
After combat

Inside you can see that the building is a smithy, with a forge, anvil, worktable, and small tub of water. Spread across the floor and table is a mess of tools, unfinished works, and raw materials, but a few pieces of good craftsmanship can be found, all of which detect as magic.

"Right." Ebirah says to Bhookaaj while trying to calm himself. After everyone has looked over the smithy for anything of use he then heads to the next closest building.

Lorelei looks around the building they are at, careful of any little hiding places that could conceal a small creature.

When they find the items of good craftmanship, Lorelei will look them over and cast Detect Magic upon them.

Lorelei holds up the chain shirt as she inspects it for any damage. "Huh, interesting, these four items appear to have some sort of enchantment upon them."

"I think this would be evidence that this wasn't a case of the people fleeing from something. They would have taken all valuable items with them, especially weapons. I can believe that all these smaller creatures are just vultures and had nothing to do with what actually happened here. Unfortunately, that leaves us with no clues yet as to what actually did happen here and where all the other colonists are."

"I guess we should just keep looking through all these buildings and hope that some clue does turn up. Maybe we can check around the outside of the village too and hope to find some sort of tracks leaving here."
