and there's 10k!

Dibbets calls, but the winds resist. There's a faint stirring of his kilt and disarrayed hair, then the wind dies. The approaching hoots of the apemen stop and all falls silent including the myriad voices of the insects and rustlings in the foliage and darkness that presses in around the crew.

see no evil, hear no evil, have no fun.

Something snaps as the simian scent wafts through Kaul's mind. He goes to a dark place, literally. A fog clouds his vision nullifying even his darkvision. There is only black and the stink of apemen and then the shrieking of the monkey mob!

The silence is torn asunder by a cacophony of shrieks from a mob of monkeys that appears if from nowhere to suddenly rush down from the low jungle canopy. These are not haunting echoes from horrors long past though, but innumerable real monkeys with sharp little teeth and grabbing hands and deafening screams.

Troubled firstly the dimming of his connection to his indifferent patron and secondly by the sense of unease lodged in his gullet... Dibbs is given a third reason for concern as the simian mass descends upon them. Roiling bile within his gullet rises to sear the back of his throat with acid as he stares into the black abyss of monkeyflesh. With no confidence to call upon his patron and a lack of confidence in his aim the fleeting thought of flight flashes across his consciousness before being assertively dismissed.

Instead he calls upon recollection to fish out a small metal object from betwixt his kilt covered nethers. Somewhat sweaty and musty he shakes it, causing clear and sonorous peal to ring out. He gives it a good few moments ringing before readying to toss it muttering "Feckin hope this feckin works..."

Ringing the eloko bell (consuming the last charge), then readying to toss it away from us next round.

I did say 24 HD of creatures, not just humanoids, eh? bah

Dibbets pulls the old ding-a-ling from his sporran or thereabouts and gives it a shake. It's hard to say if it further encourages the greasy black haired mob, but the mass of monkeys descends right atop the crew. Kaul stands numbly, but Jim swings and stabs at the swarm sending sparks and blood and fur flying. Dingus' moment of indecision whether to disappear or stand by his mates leads to the poor sorcerer being caught in the crush as well. All-8 bitey, bitey; fort DC 14 or distracted and deafened.

Per Dingus's post above he was holding "Glitterdust" to cast on the famous 60's TV band when they first showed themselves. Was he able to get this off, or did the creatures descend so fast he didn't have time?

1d20 + 5 ⇒ (20) + 5 = 25 FORT Save

Wow. Dingus either fails or rolls 20's nothing in between on saves.

Dingus panics and begins to run blindly into the jungle... anything to escape the simian plague.

sadly, you can't ready outside of initiative. It's a case of the fastest draw.

Perhaps hardened by their earlier experience with a monkey mob haunt. Dingus and Dibbets shake off the simian swarm and scoot leaving Jim to disperse the mangy things around him. Given a choice between Jim's zapper and the alluring bell, the swarm moves out and Jim catches a half dozen or so much larger shapes drop from the trees in the same direction.

Unfortunately, that's about all he can make out of the loud thrashing in the vegetation as he's left with only the dim crackling light of Storm-eye's Blade. Kaul moans loudly beside him and stumbles forward.

The Taldan grabs Kaul and starts pulling him in the direction Dibbets went. "This way, mate! Arses and elbows!"

It is a case of the nearly blind leading the deaf and blind, but Kaul follows numbly in his current state and the pair catch up with Dibbets. There is no pursuit at the moment as the bell seems to have done its job distracting the apemen from their foes. No one is quite sure where Dingus ran off to though.

Some survival, please

Male Halfling Oracle of Gozreh 6

Dibbets forms a sort of slow moving echo-location beacon as the gnawing ache in his leg engenders him to growl as he stumps stolidly on. He doesn't quite notice Kaul's lack of facility yet... given that the nugget's blind speed pretty much matches his own unhindered pace.

Dingus ruins blindly until he gives out with exhaustion and collapses underneath a strange knotty tree. He puts his back up against it, and listens for sounds of the howling, suspicious lot... or the monkey hoard, but hears only the many unknown sounds of the jungle. He twice uses his invisibility spell at perceived but unrealized threats, before calming down a bit and sitting, Richard on guard coiled about his feet.

Well I've gone and done it now. Usually I'm up Shite Creek, but this time I've nobody with me except Richard.

Survival: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (11) + 6 = 17
Survival: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (18) + 6 = 24

A fortuitous clearing gives Jim a chance to find his bearings from the stars. "Dingus! You still with us? Feck me, where'd he get off to?"

It takes a bit for Jim to get his bearings while hindered with Kaul and the leg sore halfling. Kaul eventually snaps out of it though and with Jim getting oriented on a fleeting glimpse of the sky, the search becomes more systematic as the trio circles back. The renewed shouts of hunting apemen puts on the pressure, but Dibbets finds a bit of cloth which the faint flickering of Jim's blade reveals to be a scrap of Dingus' bright kimono!

Dingus:
Richard gives a warning hiss just as a trio of the horrible hairless apes drop down from above surrounding you! ((Dingus init: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (19) + 2 = 21; apemen: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (17) + 2 = 19))

Cap'n:
Dingus screams like a little girl, and levitates himself straight up and away from the APE men.

If possible take a 5' step first, so that he is away from any tree that they could climb to get at him.

Richard hangs on for dear life.

Dingus:
You push off from the tree and glide over about 15 feet above the enraged apeman who leap around underneath you bellowing in frustration.

Dingus' shriek is heard nearby and the searchers burst into a small clearing to find their mate dangling about fifteen feet above a trio of mottled hairless apemen.

Keelhaul Kaul- 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (13) + 2 = 15

Dingus keeps floating up as the apemen draw their bows and shoot arrows at the hapless dangling sorcerer. Two shots miss, but one hits Dingus in a particularly sensitive spot below.

Well I guess no way I can make the spellcraft check for casting invisibility, so I'll just use the immovable rod to try and propel Dingus into some cover.

Dingus grimaces in pain, and extends the anchoring rod and tries to row himself into cover somewhere.

Male Halfling Oracle of Gozreh 6

Dibbs mutters "How many o' these feckers we needs tae bleed out afore they gets tha hint" before using the power of his kilt to disperse into fetid smoke and steam...

Going incorporeal, then looking to move up to next to Dingus.

Kaul intimidation: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (8) + 15 = 23

Kaul bellows back at the apemen, his intimidating roar perhaps fueled by a bit of humiliation at his previous breakdown. The enemy are visibly shaken and Jim augments their anxiety by skipping forward and stabbing deeply into the closest beastman. Dibbets is further troubled to find that his god-given kilt hangs inert and mud stained about his hips. Gozreh seems to be feeling particularly indifferent to the little oracle of late. He remains solidly and dejectedly upon the ground while Dingus inchworms for cover high above.

The jungle ambushers seem to realize that they have lost the advantage and beat a hasty retreat, leaping back into the dark jungle and hooting for reinforcements.

As the number of responding bellows increase and draw closer, Jim whistles Dingus to come back down. The window of opportunity for an escape before a horde of apemen surround the crew is closing fast.

survive: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (11) + 6 = 17

Kaul takes the lead since he's the only one who can possibly find the overgrown path in the pitch black jungle. The sound of the rushing rapids grows closer and then the crew breaks through the vegetation into the light of the full moon high overhead. They've made it back to the damaged rope bridge above the long drop into the churning water rushing through the chasm below. The tenuous strands of frayed rope now remain the only thing between safety and the gathering fury of cannibal apemen in the dark jungle behind them!

Dingus is all to eager to end his blood rain cloud imitation, and runs behind the troop, his robes stained with his own blood. Richard looks for a good perch on the fleeing sorcerer.

"Go! Go! Go! We're finding a ship and crew somewhere. No more Jungles"!

When they come to the bridge, Dingus hesitates only a second. "If this blasted bridge goes grab onto one another and I'll try and keep us from plunging to our deaths.

How long is the bridge?

"Good idea! Cast your spell and I'll pull you. Kaul, you carry Dibbets. We're going places!"

Under the assumption we do that, Jim is going to double-move across the bridge (at -2 for Kaul being on the bridge at the same time). With a +12 base Acrobatics check in armor, he automatically makes the DC for full speed with one other person on the bridge. In case he needs the help, remember he's got the Nimble Steps feat, and he can also burn a Panache point for +1d6 on his check.

Male Halfling Oracle of Gozreh 6

Dibbs collapses onto the ground with a thump as his weathered arse smacks into the turf. With a heavy voice, face that suddenly looks twenty years older and lidded eyes that moisten at the corners he speaks "Feck it... he's stopped listenin... nei feckin point..." voice flat... devoid of hope and empty. With a jerk that draws hissed quashing of pain his fractured leg cramps and creaks into position less natural. With a sigh he lays arms wide and back to the ground... eyes closed... small and pitiful...

Dingus- I'm pretty sure you've burned though all your spells, but we'll say this is the last.

Dingus casts a spell one more time and holds on to his nimble mate who immediately starts across the lopsided rope bridge at a purposeful rate.

Kaul looks down at his little buddy with concern, "I'm lissening now Dibbs. Just lost it for a moment. Monkeys, eh?" he shudders. Kaul quickly stoops and tosses his mate on his shoulder and starts after Jim, realizing there is no time before the vengeful apemen catch up.

Moments later, the first arrows whiz overhead as the crew reach the midway point. The ropes vibrates as tooth and claw are applied to the last strands holding the bridge up. There is nothing to do, but keep on, hoping to reach the far side before the bridge falls or a cloud of arrows strike!

The bellows of apemen gathering behind grows deafening and Dingus' eyes, hands and sphincter clench in anticipation of another arrow hitting a brown bullseye when a shadow cuts across the moon. Kaul and Jim are too busy minding their step and Dibbets wallowing in self-pity to look up, but it seems large and their is an impression of great scaly wings and a long tail. The bellows of the apemen turn to hoots of fear and there is thrashing in the jungle behind.

By the time, the crew step off the swinging bridge and back onto solid ground all is silent and still in the jungle on the opposite cliff...

I had all my Level 2 slots available when I asked about using a higher level slot for a lesser spell. I was down to two when I cast levitate for the bridge crossing, so still one second level slot left.

Ah, check. I thought you'd used a lev first time across the bridge, but you hadn't.

Dingus leads the retreat from the exposed cliff into the cover of the trees. Nothing more is heard and the normal jungle sounds return in good time. The crew reaches the top of the falls with no more calamities and begin the descent down to the beach. Kaul has to carry Dibbets who is acting strangely. Near the bottom of the trail, you can make out the dark shape of the launch upon the silvery sand and water reflecting the moonlight and just make out the two mates you left to keep an eye on things.
