Concievable that its both Jimmer. The Fin's thugs seem good fit for muscle and would need little encouragement from Dallain outwith some coin and a opporchancity to roast a pig-boy and shortshank...
Here's the OOC for the Iobarian Saga I've been promising: Black Dow: DM O' The North's Iobarian Saga. Will save cluttering up everyone else's OOC threads :)

... and everyone knows the sea's a dangerous place. All kinds of things can happen.
So True >:) and we haven't even shipped out yet.
So Jim's really not getting a warm fuzzy feeling about Dallian evidently. This time however, the threat is from the Groom's old chums at the Chumhouse- apparently they didn't care for his salesmanship.

I'm going to be on the road for a few days around this coming weekend (no, not GenCon; off to visit in-laws and possibly camp). Internet access will be via phone from Friday through Sunday night, and the last time I was up there 3G coverage was kind of iffy. If that's still the case, I may be pretty-much incommunicado for the duration. The Cap'n can play Jim as a DMPC while I'm gone.
Dibbets |
Heh - the wee halfin's dander is raised and no mistake.
Cap'n - I'll volunteer to PCDM if you like *innocent look on face*. No guarantee you won't come back to find half of scurvytown in flames and Dibbets pouring on more oil though...
In all seriousness enjoy your camping trip if you do make it. Did a lot when I was younger and was much fun. Not much call for it now living in a major city, plus every now and then someone goes missing from one of the Malaysian jungle campsites and gets found playing patty-cake with a tiger or halfway digested by a big ol' python...
Dibbets |
O Cap'n my Cap'n - another splatbook, another idea for Dibbs eternally hopeful future progression.
Reading through Inner Sea Magic I've noticed that 'Tattoo Magic' is a pretty decent fit for Dibbs way of thinking. Though I wouldn't be able to self tattoo until 5th level, I'm wondering if you have any issues with the concept of them.
"Keelhaul" Kaul |
Kaul's all fer heading out to sea afore Dibb's gets a hankering for Blood-Grog again... i've no rush to meet the leg-humping Gribbets again anytime soon lol.

Cap'n Voodoo |
Hey guys-
so it occurs to me I have a mess of ideas and resources for adventures. so many i can't decide which i like better sometimes. that's why i've left this pretty sandboxy and collegial. I'm just wondering if there is anything in general you might like to accomplish or check out campaign related. just spoiler me some ideas if you come up with anything. consider this the captain's suggestion box with the understanding of course that i'm trying to keep all of youse on the same heading.
Dibbets |
Dibbets' motivations are fairly plain and obvious I think. I'm happy for equal parts urban mystery and open seas / island investigation.
Only burning issue is that Dibbets will want revenge when he gets back in to Freeport. If Abel and his Scurvy Scum aren't swinging in the breeze, then I think he'll be inviting Kaul and Mara and Bess and anyone else interested for some dark deeds in the twilight.
You're doin' a bang up job so far Cap'n :)
"Keelhaul" Kaul |
Cap'n - I'll echo Dibbs by sayin that I'm loving the mystery/seaborne stew with a liberal dash o' occulty/macabre/horror sauce.
Oh and the return of lil' Gribbets... wait why's that not spoilered!? ;)
the Groom |
But his goals are her goals. I liked the vision, and I will assume a similar vision is what led him to the old house with the glowing skull and skin-bag. Like right now, he knows he should have followed up on the Sahaugin, and not been dissuaded by his companions. So she can continue to steer him, as vaguely as she wishes. He doesn't see himself needing to become a great pirate in order to serve her, he wants to make sure that the great pirates pay her respect. But if he serves her best by becoming a great pirate, well 'Her will be done'.
James "Madman Jim" Patterson |
Thirding Dibbs and Kaul wrt the mix of things so far.
"Keelhaul" Kaul |
Yeah dinos and big monsters would be cool. Not really worried about actually coming across these critters, just a feckin huge footprint or bellow from the jungle would suffice... ;)
Anything with a Harryhausen or 30,000 leagues vibe as well [Talos or giant squid for example] would be tres magnifique. But overall the mystery creepy element is the best for me. That skinbag encounter is still one of the best I've ever been part of... part wtf??? part holy s**t! truly was top drawer Cap'n lol
Dingus Mack |
I'm having fun with Dingus. I'm the type of player that gets the basics of a character down first, then his personality and who he is as a character tends to build as the campaign progresses. I'm intentionally vague, until I find something to run with...then the personality and character take off. The whole Serpent blood thing leaves a lot of exploration and open ends...Who knows maybe Dingus can single handedly (Well with a little help from his friends) bring back the serpent empire, and take over the world with him as emperor. Seriously a Power play could very well be in Dingus's future.
Cap'n Voodoo |
Cool! thanks for the input guys. I'm mainly just getting an idea how much to plan for Freeport vs. out at sea. maybe a level or two out and then one in port.
There doesn't look to be any long voyages in the Shackles. It's like the distance from Florida to Cuba and Jamaica, but later on maybe we'll check out Mediogalti and the Sodden Lands for some fun.
I wish there was more info on Besmara. She doesn't seem the primordial God type- is she an ascendant mortal, an interdimensional raider? I even asked James Jacobs for something and just got "wait for Skull and Shackles" :P
the Groom |
that's kind of cool though. They always profile two deities per AP in episodes 2 and 5, I think. They finished all the main deities with Carrion Crown, again I think. So the minor gods will get some love. But that is still a ways off.
I meant to pick up the Gods of Neutrality book, because there was a bit in there I thought.
Dibbets |
Unfortunately the info in Faiths of Balance on Besmara is just one big paragraph. Not many details that aren't known elsewhere - highlights below:
Demands no great fealty from most of her worshippers.
Gladly accepts a treasure chest or two if offered before battle, but acceptance isn't a promise that she'll aid one side over another.
She delights in chaos and pretense, and she'll take particularly brave or cunning pirates aboard her own ship, the Seawraith, for her legendary raids on the planes of the Great Beyond.
Looks like we'll have to wait a few months for the full write up in Skull and Shackles #1
Dibbets |
1 person marked this as a favorite. |
Found this little gem while playing some muppets on youtube for my son.
I figure Dibbs is Robin, Kaul is Fozzie, The Groom is Link Hogthrob, Jim is Scooter and Dingus gets to be Gonzo No offense intended :)
....aaaaand Cap'n gets to be Statler and Waldorf
"Keelhaul" Kaul |
Excellent work Dibbs. However I shall now have to punctuate Kaul's banter with jokes like:
Why are fish so smart?
Give up?
'Cause they swim in schools...
Schools gettit?
And finish them all with a Fozzie's signature: "Wocka Wocka Wocka!" :)
"Keelhaul" Kaul |
Could always go with the classic:
Fozzie: [enters holding a fish] Okay, now ask me what I'm carrying the fish for.
Rowlf: Oh, Fozzie, what are you carrying the fish for?
Fozzie: Oh, just for the halibut.
Oh man. That shouldn't make me laugh but it does...

Hey guys. I'm really enjoying playing with you guys in this game. What do you think about putting together a pre-made party for the "Legacy of Fire" Pbp, and recruiting a DM to run it. This is one I started with one of my favorite PbP characters ever...Erizi the Landless... but it died at 2nd level. He's a Melee fighter extraordinaire, so maybe we could form a party and go for it. Thoughts?
Cap'n Voodoo |
ah, good to see i've instilled a healthy paranoia about swarms in y'all. honestly, i think they should be min CR 3-4 for all their defenses and auto damage. doesn't mean i didn't really enjoy throwing them at you, but i believe it's just cruel when folks use them in 1st level adventures.
and don't pick on poor Dingus' spell selection. even a 2 level burning hands wouldn't be a game changer. the only merciful thing about swarms is their movement rate.
Dibbets |
Oh I wasn't picking on Dingus specifically, more all three of us (specifically for the lack of 'spark' on any of our spell lists).
One of the few decent attacks against swarms at our level is to try and set em on fire. A suitable accelerant (such as say some expensively cheap high-proof booze) lit up may have actually pushed em back a bit.
And I do like swarms :)
"Keelhaul" Kaul |
Should've just lit up one of Dibb's noxious emissions ;) Even a roach swarm coundn't survive that WMD lol.
@ Scranford... regards the pbp, tempted but realistically my dance card is pretty full at the moment and I've my own game to manage on the horizon...

errmmmmmm..FIRE! FIRE!!
seems a waste of booze though. I just had a funny vision of Dibbets weeping inconsolably as he lit up a bottle of spirits : )
James "Madman Jim" Patterson |
No, he's a creative one, is our Dibbets. See, he'll drink it all down first, then let the roaches take a nibble of halfling. We'll end up with a drunken, highly combustible swarm of roaches to deal with. One torch and *whoomph*. Barbecued bugs. And if it doesn't work, he still got a drink out of the deal.
James "Madman Jim" Patterson |
So the altar's fashioned from a chest, eh? What are the odds?
I'm not sure how my PbP experience is going to settle out...am playing in two active ones and reffing a third, and may have two more about to die.
"Keelhaul" Kaul |
Heheheh. Looks like we're gaining an extra crew-member gents...
Tum Bobo; coconut monkeffigy and Cap'n's alter ego lol
Good Kaul or bad Kaul? [wacka-wacka-wacka] :)

The B-side to that great Fifties hit, 'Wakey-Wakey, Hands Off Snakey'
is the comparable, but no less forgettable, 'When in Bunky, Don't Pet Monkey'
