Davina Eradon |
Davina pulls out one of her extracts and drinks it. She draws her rapier but keeps it pointed down, and does not move forward.
Drank Comprehend Languages
Jessibel Aulamaxa |
With a surprised yip, Jessibel's sent reeling backwards. The distance the feathery brute's able to knock her proves what a lightweight the bard is; the fact that she somehow manages to hop down the uneven natural stairs backwards also highlights that the girl is nimble with good balance.
Seeing Davina gulp down some sort of potion, Jessi climbs back onto the stairs, standing at her friend's side with her rapier at the ready.
"What are you up to?" she asks Davina.
Readying a rapier stab if the monster advances within range.
rapier: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (15) + 2 = 17 forpiercing damage: 1d6 ⇒ 1
Nice--just enough to really piss it off.
Davina Eradon |
"Trying to understand what our friend wants. It was an extract of Comprehend Languages." She grins, "I can do other things besides blow out windows with my alchemy. Some are useful but not too noticeable like this extract. Others are down right weird."
Leora Scileana |
"Let Davina lead us from fear to truth, from fighting to peace! " Leora intones, praying for a blessing for Davina to talk to the strange creature out of fighting them.
casting guidance on Davina
GM Paladin |
Note that comprehend languages does exactly what it says on the tin -- it doesn't let you speak languages, only understand them.
Davina Eradon |
Yep I realized that I couldn't speak to it, but I hoped I could maybe pantomime agreement or disagreement with what it was saying.
She speaks calmly to the group without taking her eyes from the creature, "We have a problem. It thinks this is it's den. We can't leave it down here we need to use the area for a base. Any ideas on how we're going to convince it to leave>"
GM Paladin |
I forgot to note: all PCs except for Domitius are up.
Kiri Windfeather |
With the big lizard out of sight Kiri moved up to the wall of the room this new attacker was in and lay herself against it to get out of sight and await what might come next ready to attack the lizard or this new threat should they start a fight.

Domitius aka Dukkan |
"Any ideas on how we're going to convince it to leave?"
"Oh, I know what I'd do to convince him," Domitius growls as he grips his sword, glowering at the new threat. "Y'all right, Jess?"
Jessibel Aulamaxa |
"Fine, for the most part," Jessibel calls to Domitius. "Just a little sca..., um, concerned--this thing is really strong!"
Jessi's already acted in Round 1 (readied action).
Davina Eradon |
I acted in round 1 as well.
Leora Scileana |
"Maybe if we back off out this bird-guy's room and kill that monster thing in the water, he'll realize we don't mean him any harm." Leora wonders aloud, though she doesn't sound very certain since the bird man just shoved Jessi down some stairs.
Already took my action for round 1, just not sure how we want to approach this.
GM Paladin |
Still hoping we hear from Lydia soon.
Lydia protects herself with a Force Shield.
Suddenly the white reptile lunges out of the water with surprising speed. Kiri's blast of air misses it, and it lunges forward at the closest available target.
Dom's readied action didn't specify a 5-ft-step, but I'll allow him to take one anyway.
Domitius steps forward and swings his heavy blade as the albino alligator charges at Kiri, and the falcata bites into its shoulder. It still pounces on the young strix. Fortunately, she just barely evades its toothy jaws.
Readied actions have changed initiative slightly. All PCs except for Domitius and Kiri are up!

Davina looks at the creature who is yelling at them, and looks at the other creature who tried to bite Kiri. Which one of these is the bigger danger? Bitey I guess.
She takes steps toward the quick moving monster and takes a swing with her rapier. She keeps listening to see if the group's attacks affect the bird like creature at all.

Jessibel Aulamaxa |
Unable to easily get to the ghost-colored gator threatening her friends and unwilling to leave them open to attack from the angry birdman, Jessibel stands her ground, keeping her rapier at the ready while not pointing it directly at the muscular avian.
She decides that an inspirational song is how she can best contribute to the fight...but she doesn't want to sing anything too warlike for fear of antagonizing the feathered brute.
"Bathe in music's soothing balm,
Find your focus, swim in calm."
Inspire Courage (Su): A 1st level bard can use his performance to inspire courage in his allies (including himself), bolstering them against fear and improving their combat abilities. To be affected, an ally must be able to perceive the bard’s performance. An affected ally receives a +1 morale bonus on saving throws against charm and fear effects and a +1 competence bonus on attack and weapon damage rolls. At 5th level, and every six bard levels thereafter, this bonus increases by +1, to a maximum of +4 at 17th level. Inspire courage is a mind-affecting ability. inspire courage can use audible or visual components. The bard must choose which component to use when starting his performance.
Leora Scileana |
"You've got this, Jessi, stay strong!" Leora says encouragingly. She thumps the singer on the shoulder and moves around to the other side of the strange white monster, rapier at the ready.

Lucius's aim is true and a big hole is blasted in the reptile's scaly hide.
Lydia points a finger and tries to zap the alligator, but misses in the excitement.

Witht he addition of the reptile to the fight Kiri knew that one had to die and quickly. The hisdeous lizard was the biggest threat as it was right next to her so she knew what she had to do, get the hell away from it first. She began her movement but the thing was obviously ready for her because it looked right at her as she began to move...
Acrobatics to avoid AoO from the croc DC equals it's CMD: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (2) + 7 = 9

Domitius aka Dukkan |
As fascinating as Domitius finds the beast before him, that doesn't mean he wants to be its breakfast. Sorry pal, better you than me, he thinks as he shifts position and brings his sword down again.
Paging our designated movers, please put me into a flank with Kiri, my attack roll will include the +2 from flanking, and +1 from Jessibel’s song.
Falcata attack: 1d20 + 5 + 1 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 5 + 1 + 2 = 11
Falcata damage: 1d8 + 6 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 6 + 1 = 11
EDIT: given my abysmally low attack roll, questions of whether I'm flanking are pretty academic. :-/
Kiri Windfeather |
I'm not going to be there if I don't get grappled by the bite Dom, and I have no weapon in hand so I don't threaten. My movement will put my one square above where you are starting at unless I get held in place.
Davina Eradon |
"He likes the fighting. It's keeping his attention right now."
GM Paladin |
Unfortunately, Kiri's attempt to dodge past the reptile fails, and she finds herself clamped between its huge jaws, its teeth painfully digging into her body, damaging vital organs and crushing the breath from her lungs. 12 damage to Kiri and she is grappled. I don't think you have that NL damage, actually, since I don't see that you've used burn today, so you should be at 0, staggered and disabled.
Fortunately, its attention is drawn by Kiri, and it doesn't see Domitius's attack coming. His heavy blade cuts its neck muscles deeply, forcing it to drop the strix as it collapses.

Moving for Jessibel:
Not sure if the bird-man will celebrate their victory over the alligator or not, Jessibel maintains her song, changing it into words of praise for Domitius's timely rescue of Kiri.
I will assume Lucius reloads his musket as a full-round action. Lydia delays.
The muscular creature looks confused when the crocodilian falls, and croaks inquisitively.
He pushes forward, trying to shoulder Jessibel and Davina out of the way to approach the alligator.. This functions as an overrun attempt against Davina specifically. Davina, you can step aside to let him past, or take an attack of opportunity if you want to. If you step aside, there is no chance you'll be knocked prone by his overrun. You don't actually move squares if you choose to step aside. Everyone else who threatens the squares through which he is moving may take an attack of opportunity if desired (provoked either by the overrun attempt or just by movement).
Domitius aka Dukkan |
Domitius stands by with his sword, looking at this strange fellow and preparing to rect if he gets any more hostile.
No time yet to apply Studied Target, right?
Jessibel Aulamaxa |
1 person marked this as a favorite. |
"Hope that thing wasn't his pet," Jessibel comments as the bulky birdman rudely pushes through the assembled friends toward the great white gator. In a slightly softer voice, she adds, "Because I intend to get some boots and a belt out of its hide. Anyone else want a pair?"
No AoO for Jessi because of Total Defense action.
Jessibel Aulamaxa |
"Color's not an issue since I've got my magic," Jessibel replies. "Material, fabric, and texture are what really matter. And unusual color in a material--say alligator hide--is rare, and therefore usually valuable. And stylish."
Davina Eradon |
Davina steps aside to let the creature past. She says to her friends, "It seems upset about the creature's death. It may turn on us yet be ready."
Domitius aka Dukkan |
Dom can't resist the urge to comment. "We play our cards right here, Jess can get a belt, shoes, and a nice feather boa in one fell swoop."
Jessibel Aulamaxa |
1 person marked this as a favorite. |
Not wanting to antagonize the aggressive avian, Jessi tries to smother a spontaneous laugh at Dom's words but ends up unleashing an unladylike snort that echoes throughout the chamber.

The corby shoves its way past Davina, and bends over next to the alligator. It seems confused by the sudden death of the creature.

Davina notices the eyes glimmering in the distance. "I don't think this creature is the only one here with us. It might be Domitius' wasps." She nods slightly in the direction of the eyes.
She gets ready to attack the corby if anyone is attacked.

Kiri Windfeather |
Kiri groaned as the reptile died and she felt it's jaws release her, then she sighed at Leora's touch and felt just a bit tipsy. With the sudden change of the situation and everyone on pins and needles about the big bird she decided to just lay there, particularly when the big bird leaned over the dead gator.
Domitius aka Dukkan |
Domitius keeps his sword low, but closes in on the bird-man, sizing him up as he does so. Go on, start something, ya big uvalen…
As he moves, he catches a glimpse of what Davina's talking about. "Whatever it is, I'd rather not get to take that sail off Leora..."
Does darkvision let me see anything more about the eyes in the shadows?
Calling all designated movers, please move me into a flank with Davina (if her readied attack goes off, I assume she’d get a +2 to what’s rolled there). I’ll use my actions to move into position and apply Studied Target to this guy.

Jessibel Aulamaxa |
Jessibel keeps singing her 'less rousing' inspirational song, in case the birdman (or her friends) goes on the attack...or the other threat (which she can't see) decides to put in an appearance.
"We'll fight all evils and vanquish all threats
Fighting side by side as friendship begets."
Lucius Ashton |
Lucius just stood around since the large birdman didn't seem to be hostile right then and there though he did keep his gun out just in case it decided to get violent.
GM Paladin |
Leora Scileana |
"I guess we just wait to see what he does," Leora says, following her companions' lead and letting the bird-man go to look at the white alligator. She still holds her weapon at the ready in case the situation changes. She can't see whatever it is that Dom and Davina are looking at, though.

Lydia also waits to see what the birdman will do.
He begins croaking loudly, staring at the dying alligator below him, then looks up at those around him.
Suddenly, he flies into a rage, angrily striking out at those around him. Leora and Davina are ready to react, striking out at him, but their rapiers don't quite get through his layers of thick feathers, which form an unexpectedly effective armor. His first claw hits Domitius, but when the rapiers come close to wounding him, he turns and strikes out at Davina next instead of continuing the attack on the half-orc. Both Domitius and Davina take 7 damage.
Lydia reacts as well, casting a spell to try to hamper the creature's attacks by wracking it with pain. It gives a squawk of distress as the spell takes hold.
All PCs are up.

Thunder rings through the tunnels again as Lucius's musketball drills a hole in the Corby's chest. It seems very badly wounded, but doesn't look like it's ready to stop fighting.
Domitius aka Dukkan |

The bird-creature's talons make a nasty slice on Domitius’ shoulder. Enraged by the pain, Dom brings his sword up and tries to finish the job, but the wound he just suffered makes his sweeping slash go wide.

Jessibel Aulamaxa |
Jessibel hums a bit to keep the inspiration flowing (free action), moving around the perimeter of the fight (move action).
Instead of stabbing the brute bird (which she'd dearly like), she instead takes a more prudent move--healing Dom so he can finish the birdman and help deal with whatever other threat he and a few of the others noted earlier.
"Music's weal--hear and heal!" the bard sings, reaching out and gently touching Dom's bloodied shoulder (standard action).
