Thanks for waiting guys! We start right now. Just make sure you can post at least once a day.
Players: Mr. Swgger (KA ' SAR), AJCarrington (Tanrak), DM_Jacob (Touchstone Quick), and Arknight (Garavic).

After defending the seaside village of Selsey from a Goblin raid, in which you all met, you are now in Lachtopher Inn, conversing over mugs of ale. It is a surprisingly large 3-story building. The owner and bartender, Lachtopher himself, is behind the front counter. He is an older man, a retired knight with a receeding white hairline and milky brown eyes.

A tall, pale and frighteningly skinny elder talks quietly with a smaller man dressed in black. They are in the back left corner, entirely unnoticed unless you make a perception check (DC 15)

Various other characters, shady, happy, and openly drunk, fill the ground floor.

The room is 12 squares long by 10 wide. Where are you at? (ex: A1, B12, G7) What do you do or say?

Male Dwarf Rogue 1

Touchstone happily surveys the room, amused at all of the drunken fools, since he, being a dwarf, has already put back several ales with no sign of lessened mental acuity. I'm assuming we're all relatively celebratory from the fight. He casually kicks back and enjoys the company of his new companions at the table in the center of the room. If that's OK with everyone. I'm more interested at being at the same table with the group than I am with being in the center.

Perception 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (13) + 7 = 20

He finds it a bit amusing that the couple in the corner thinks that they can be secretive in a tavern, especially since he is quite sober, but generally just casts an eye over every few minutes to avoid an accidental eye-lock.

Half-Orc Ranger (Spell-less) 1

Garovic sat quietly at his table as he stared into his mug, lost deep in thought. He had never wanted to be known as a warrior but the situation just past had forced that. He'd been surprised when his father had taken him to a shed and unveiled a chest. He'd said that the items in the chest had been his in his youth, but that. Ow they were Garovic's should be need them. As soon as he'd heard that the goblins were on the way to attack, he'd gone to the chest and put on the armor and weapons there.

He took a sip of his drink and just looked around the room. The items from his father had held up well, but now he wondered what others were thinking. Even though his orcish heritage didn't really show much any more, there were still plenty around that had seen him grow up with a much more orcish look and some of those still considered him nothing more than a beast to be pushed down.

*maybe it's time to just move on. I know father doesn't want me to leave, but I think it's time...*

Human(Vudrani) Cleric(Abadar) 1

I would prefer to be where the others characters are.

Brevan is happy to enjoy a round or two of the spirits after a hard day's work, but he is careful to not allow himself to become drunk.

perception:1d20 + 8 ⇒ (12) + 8 = 20

As he is trying to think of what made the goblins attack he notices two people in the corner trying to be secretive it seems. He then thinks to himself. "As long as they don't cause trouble I don't care"

Male Human

A serving girl comes around with a few more mugs of ale. As she leaves the table again you see that the smaller man in black has mysteriously disappeared, leaving the tall, pale one by himself.

M Human Fighter 1

Sorry for taking so long to get this post up...RL has been a bear the past week or so. Should be back to normal now. I too will be seated at the same table as the remainder of the group.

Despite the victory, Tanrak can't help but wonder if something bigger is behind all the recent unrest...a grim smile playing across his face as he ponders further.

With little awareness to those around him, he continues to nurse his pint of ale.

Male Dwarf Rogue 1

Touchstone leans over to Brevan and whispers Were you looking at those fellows in the corner, too? They seem to be the only ones not celebrating. And they both looked pretty shifty to boot. Out of habit, Touchstone pulls his dagger an inch out of his thigh holster for easy access.

Human(Vudrani) Cleric(Abadar) 1

Hello GM-Jacob. :) I do that sometimes also so if you see Rashun or Rhual show up that means I used the wrong avatar by accident.

"I think we she keep an eye on them, but don't start anything."

I then call a waitress(assuming there is one) over and order a drink, not so much because I want a drink, but just to have a witness in case we need one that we were not bothering anyone.

Male Dwarf Rogue 1

Touchstone nods to Brevan. Indeed, I would hate to ruin everyone's good time. Our companions here are awfully quiet, wouldn't you say? Anyway, I'm in need of an emptying, if you know what I mean. Touchstone excuses himself to the restroom, stopping by Lachtopher on the way back. So, good man, can you tell me anything about that fellow in the corner? Touchstone indicates the pale man. And did you see his companion? They weren't enjoying any of your fine drinks. What time of day is it?

Sovereign Court

Male Human

"That man's an information broker. No one knows his name around these parts, though. I saw his companion, yes. Must be another one of his associates." (It's night time, about 10:00.)

Male Dwarf Rogue 1

Touchstone, wary of sitting still for too long, decides to go chat with the pale man in the corner. Hello, sir! My name is Touchstone Borisson. May I make your acquaintance?

Sovereign Court

Male Human

The man seems taken by surprise at your sudden appearance and friendliness, though it doesn't take more than a few seconds for him to compose himself.
"Certainly", he says, a slow smile slipping across his pale face. "I recognized you a while ago. You fought those goblins just outside the village. As you may already have guessed, I am an informant to many. My name is Albatros Finch. Do you have business with me?"

M Human Fighter 1

Leaning over to Brevan, Touchstone certainly seems to be the outgoing type, adding with a chuckle, Not the typical dwarf by any measure.

Mirth aside, Tanrak focuses his attention on Touchstone and his "new friend".

Sovereign Court

Male Human

Touchstone: Along with whatever you're going to say, give me a perception check. Braven and Tanrak can roll as well if they want.

Male Dwarf Rogue 1

I'm just a simple traveler, but I hear that you know much of this area. Can you tell me where I can find work? I've taken a liking to these parts, especially now that I've invested my bow and blade in the town's defense. I would rather like to stay here for a while.

Perception1d20 + 7 ⇒ (13) + 7 = 20

Human(Vudrani) Cleric(Abadar) 1

Speaking quietly to Tanrak, "I see. I was really hoping to just have a drink and go to bed. Hopefully I still can."
perception: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (19) + 8 = 27

Sovereign Court

"I have a package that needs delivering. There is a man known as Grima Ardent. He lives somewhere in the woods Southeast of the town, just along the shoreline. If you are looking for work, that is where it can be found. He employs many different kinds of folk. Do you accept?"

Both of you can see this. A burly man seems to be fingering a hatchet at his belt, eyeballing the two in the corner from the a nearby table.

Male Dwarf Rogue 1

So, you're saying that you want me to deliver a package to Grima, and then he might have more work for me? What kind of wages am I looking at? And what kind of package? Touchstone eyes the fellow in the corner, making sure he makes eye contact, so that the hatchet-man can tell he's well aware of his presence.

Sovereign Court

Male Human

"Indeed, he might. You and your companions will be paid well to deliver it to him, and even more when working for him. The contents of the package itself are confidential. I would rather you didn't look in it."
The axeman turns away, grumbling about the fact that he's been noticed so easily.

Male Dwarf Rogue 1

Very well. I'll take this "confidential" package to Grima. Do we need to take it now, or can we wait until morning? Touchstone walks back over to his companions and says Is anyone else going to do this with me? I'll give you even splits.

Human(Vudrani) Cleric(Abadar) 1

Is this legal? Using Silver Tongue Haggler(+1 to both of the checks). I can do it one more time today.
diplomacy:1d20 + 6 ⇒ (16) + 6 = 22
sense motive:1d20 + 8 ⇒ (1) + 8 = 9

In any event we need time to think this over. Can you meet us here tomorrow afternoon?

Half-Orc Ranger (Spell-less) 1

Garovic watched from his table as Touchstone spoke with the strange gentleman. He sipped on his ale as a small smile crept on his lips *Looks to be getting interesting. Perhaps it's not quite time to leave.*

He rose and stepped over to the table with the others, his drink in hand. For such a tall, large build of an individual, his voice was rather softspoken. "You have the look of ones about to do mischief or heroics. I would join you.".

Sovereign Court

Male Human

"Legal? No. Though you shouldn't be expecting trouble from the city guard in a forest outside it's limits.", Finch replies matter-of-factly.
He seems honest enough. You don't need to make checks to know that he isn't telling you everything, but it's probably not a good idea to make your only business lead angry.
"I can meet you here tomorrow night, but we must keep this all very secret for the safety of us all.", he continues, "Sadly I am not well liked in this town. The guards are suspicious of my actions and I cannot stay forever."

Human(Vudrani) Cleric(Abadar) 1

"Ok. I will meet you here tomorrow."

Satisified with the answer Brevan stands by until the other have finished asking their questions.

Before we meet again:
diplomacy to gather information on who Grima is:1d20 + 6 ⇒ (18) + 6 = 24

M Human Fighter 1

Stupid question: for rolls, is there an online tool we should be using, or do I roll at home and post the results?

Human(Vudrani) Cleric(Abadar) 1

There is an online code. Below the text box you have to type in here are the words "How to format your text". Click on "show" and it shows you how to format bolding, url links, italic, and so on.

For dice rolls it is {dice}1d20+X {/dice}

When doing the actual code use [ ] instead of { }.

For X use an actual number.

Male Dwarf Rogue 1

Touchstone has no futher questions. He will be present well before the appointed time, waiting on the other characters.

Sovereign Court

Male Human

This is what Brevan gathers on who Grima is from others at the inn:
A Ranger who seemed to have disappeared off the face of the earth about a month before the recent killings around the edges of the port town's forest.
Many suspect him as well as most of the others in the Selsey Ranger Corps of these, and most frown at the sight of them.
Normally such a high roll would tell you a lot more, but Grima is not a very well known person around these parts.

Human(Vudrani) Cleric(Abadar) 1

The next day I inform the others of what I know.

Male Dwarf Rogue 1

I gather we are meeting back up the next evening.

Touchstone says to his friends before entering the tavern Well, I hope Grima isn't really responsible for the murders, but I guess gold is gold. He marches through the door, finds Grima, and says, from across the tavern, Well met! He waits to get closer before continuing quietly Where is the package? We're ready to go.

Sovereign Court

Male Human

Finch sits at the same table in the corner. He nods his approval of the decision to accept his job. From inside his cloak he pulls out a small rectangular box made of wood and slides it across the table.
"I've given you all the information you need for the task.", he murmurs quietly, "Though I suggest you keep your weapons close at hand. Once you are inside the forest borders I cannot garuntee your safety.

Male Dwarf Rogue 1

Touchstone takes the package, tucks it in his incredibly full pack, and heads back over to the crew. Ready to go?

Human(Vudrani) Cleric(Abadar) 1

"I am ready."

Sovereign Court

Male Human

Suddenly, the door opens, letting in the chill of the night air, and a robed newcomer enters the inn (That'd be you, Nimt.)

Grand Lodge

The robed man closes the door, then looks around as if searching for someone. The he spots your group, and walks over to you. He murmurs to the dwarf: You are going to visit Grima, correct ? Your employers thought you could use some assistance.

Half-Orc Ranger (Spell-less) 1

Garovic nodded. "I'm ready as well. Although I wish you'd been a bit subtler about the whole thing. With the attitude towards the gentleman, I'm sure someone is going to be a bit too curious and try to find out what we're doing. We need to keep our eyes out, moreso than normal."

He looked at the newcomer with a bit of doubt. He was willing to give everyone an opportunity, but he'd be keeping an eye on this robed figure too.

Male Dwarf Rogue 1

Sorry. I'm just excited. Touchstone hangs his head earnestly. To Nimt, he replies, much more quietly now, Indeed we are, sir. I'm always up for some help. Did Nimt help with the goblin raids?

Human(Vudrani) Cleric(Abadar) 1

"Let us be off then."

Where is Tanrak?

Male Dwarf Rogue 1

Moving right along...If Nimt helped with the goblin raids, Touchstone will be infinitely more trusting of him.

Touchstone marches out the door, expecting the rest of the crew to follow him. Once he is a ways away from the tavern he says So, did any of you notice that axe-man from last night? It seemed like he was watching us.

Grand Lodge

F Female Aasimar druid 1 | AC 17 T 13 FF 14 | HP 15/15 | F +4 R +3 W +7 | Init +3 | Perc +5 (8) | spd 20 ft.

last night ? Is it already morning ? The Gm didn't mention that.

Male Dwarf Rogue 1

Yeah, the mysterious stranger told us to meet back the next night. So, here we are. Er, wait. Did the guy mean that we should come back after we returned the package to get our reward? Either way,we're leaving the tavern and heading to Grima's house.

Grand Lodge

F Female Aasimar druid 1 | AC 17 T 13 FF 14 | HP 15/15 | F +4 R +3 W +7 | Init +3 | Perc +5 (8) | spd 20 ft.

Thanks

Well, let's hope we can be back from delivering the package in time for our appointment with Finch

Nimt follows Touchstone out the door, waving goodbye to the barkeep if he is present.

Sovereign Court

Male Human

One would assume that you should come back after delivering the package for the reward, yes.
Your meetings with Albatros Finch took two nights. The first rays of the sun are just starting to peek over the horizon. It is very early morning. Nimt was too late to help in the initial problem with the goblins, but played a key part in driving them away from the seaside village.

You arrive at the forest. The thin trees are so tall and twisted, they nearly block out whatever light the sun can give at this point. The nastiest things they saw where the cobwebs: dark, dense things with threads extraordinarily thick. They where obviously not made by normal spiders. Often they stretched across the manmade dirt path, hampering the heroes progress. Even the dumbest man could tell something was wrong. This place felt...evil...

Male Dwarf Rogue 1

Touchstone uses his spear to brush away as many spiderwebs as possible, and loosens his dagger in its sheath. Sometime giant spiders would get in the mines back home, but we always chased them away before they could make webs like these. This is nasty. And creepy.

Grand Lodge

F Female Aasimar druid 1 | AC 17 T 13 FF 14 | HP 15/15 | F +4 R +3 W +7 | Init +3 | Perc +5 (8) | spd 20 ft.

And where are the builders of these webs ?

Perception1d20 + 3 ⇒ (16) + 3 = 19

Half-Orc Ranger (Spell-less) 1

Garovic nodded in agreement and proceeded to load his crossbow. Holding the crossbow at the ready, he crouched down to check for any tracks in the dirt and grass.

Checking for recent/old tracks: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (4) + 6 = 10

Human(Vudrani) Cleric(Abadar) 1

"I don't like this place. The faster we leave the better."

perception:1d20 + 8 ⇒ (6) + 8 = 14

Sovereign Court

Male Human

Nimt and Brevan are able to spot the thinner parts of the webs going much deeper into the forest, on both sides of the path. Garovic can see very faint dots in the ground, as if made from spider legs.

Grand Lodge

F Female Aasimar druid 1 | AC 17 T 13 FF 14 | HP 15/15 | F +4 R +3 W +7 | Init +3 | Perc +5 (8) | spd 20 ft.

Huh. If my eyes do not betray me, even the spiders keep to the path. Will we go deeper into the forest, to avoid the webs, or stay on the path ?

Nimt also loads his crossbow, and is looking expectantly at the other members of his party.

He is waiting until his better armored companions move out, then will take up position in the rear of the marching order.

Male Dwarf Rogue 1

Touchstone is happy to continue in the front of the line.

Touchstone decides better of his weapon, and switches out his spear for a flask of oil and his flint and steel. I vote that we stay on the path. I'm not fond of trees.
