Heinrich Cornelius Agrippa |
Johan is having RL posting difficulties right now, so relying on him to move the action forward isn't a good idea.
We should all be making gameplay posts that allow the GM to move things along.
Heinrich Cornelius Agrippa |
[bah!] Johan waves a hand dismissively at the deamons. No more of this gibberish! Let us move on.
Johan makes to move into the room towards the second staircase, alert to possible treachery from the two outsiders.
No need to wait on him, or ask what is his decision. He made a gameplay post indicating he was moving forward, I made a gameplay post indicating I was moving forward, Eldred made a gameplay post indicating he was moving forward.....
Wodin Earthbreaker |
Again, I'm not saying we shouldn't do anything, but coming out of the tail end of Thanksgiving and finals, and going right into the Christmas season, things are obviously going to slow down. And that's still not a reason to rush headlong into what will almost surely kill us. Wodin ain't moving one step towards this "bad guy" because he knows his limits. He's been nearly killed three times in the last two days, and he's not letting your bullheaded wizard (who he knows almost nothing about besides the fact that he's arrogant and hides at the first sign of trouble!*) lead everyone right into a fight that even the pair of demons clearly stated would be dangerous. And even THEY almost blew us all to pieces.
On top of this, there are a number of floors we just blew past without examining at all, and it's likely that we would be well-served to clear them out, first. We never even checked all of the bottom floor, as far as I can tell! There's a limit to trying to bypass stuff in the name of "moving ahead."
I also agree with Sidious. Resting up IS doing something, and charging from fight to fight just because we're not completely out of resources (especially when the fight you're so eager to start is likely the hardest one we'll face in here!) is really, really dangerous. There are plenty different "forwards" we can undertake, most of which don't take us directly to what is probably the final encounter.
Johan Hale |
Hi all, very sorry for the sporadic posting rate. December as a retail manager sucks. This is my first winter working for a major US retailer as opposed to a major Canadian retailer and the demands on the management staff are...different.
Back on topic, yes, moving down is good. It is frustrating to have to stop after one encounter ( in this case 1 round of one encounter!). It is also frustrating to have almost all my character's HP depleted EVERY TIME we get into a scrap, and creates the expectation that if we don't heal fully every time, we're going to get TPK'd around the next corner.
Johan can throw up a few heals if needed and we still have some charges on the CLW wands, so lets keep pushing forward for a while. We seem to have a secure base so we can pull back whenever we need to.
DM Aku |
I have a 100 gp onyx. that should animate a 4 hd undead. Not sure if I can animate something that had at least 4 hd as a 4hd undead, of if if I have to find something with exactly 4 hd.
up to 4HD.
You can use it to animate a 1hd zombie for instance.
DM Aku |
I agree with Agrippa on this one.
I'll move you forward to explore the second level.
Later on, you'll have plenty of time to explore this place at leisure.
One more thing, as I’m sure Eldred already noticed, it’ll be your job to populate this dungeon, so I suggest one of you assumes the job to keep tabs of the place and number it’s rooms, and based on that, create some sort of file to manage the dungeon itself.
As the place is being explored, I’ll provide the map.
Father Sidious |
Metagaming slightly, a minotaur in life has 6 hd so I would need a larger onyx. Sidious does not have the spell memorized today anyway. At least the corpse will keep. :)
In addition to supplies, don't we need to procure our three sacrifices? Seems like we would want to get all that lined up before we begin any ritual, right?
DM Aku |
Ties with evil? All Sidous' spells are granted from an evil deity. All his other powers as well. So none of his spells will work?
Technically, you need a Concentration DC 20+spell level to cast a spell, and a Will save DC 25 to use any other ability tied with evil.
ELDRED CROFTER |
Simple is best. I say we start with 1, 2 and 3.
Agreed.
Also merry Christmas all
DM Aku |
Hey, I'm back. :)
The Secret door in '16' is known to us right?
You mean the secret door that lead into the spiral stair you have been using to change from floor to floor that you discovered at the caverns?
If that's the case, then yes. :)
Also, there's more in this floor to cover, I'll update the rest in some minutes.
DM Aku |
This simple shrine is the source of the holy consecration. I can remove it with a spell in the morning by casting Desecrate if we have the material components. Silver dust and Unholy water. Or we can deface the shrine and offering a living sacrifice to our master, Asmodeus.
Well, I think I explained it wrong, sorry.
You need: Desecrate+Deface+Sacrifice to stop the impending effect.
DM Aku |
Agrippa notes the way in which the consecration can be dispelled. Perhaps even reversed to make evil spells more powerful? Permanent desecration maybe?
Don't need to worry about it for now. You'll have the chance a bit later.
Heinrich Cornelius Agrippa |
Moving on!
DM Aku |
Third Level means up right? So we need to find the staircase? Otherwise I can cast fly on Eldred and let him go find the place. I have three scrolls of Fly.
Third level is where you fought the Daemons. Only there's no passage there to the rest of the place. From there you can only go into the inner sanctum.
The stair is the one you guys founded and have been using already.
Heinrich Cornelius Agrippa |
Ok, so I'm confused. The caves are the lowest level of the Spire, then the First level is where the barracks and stairs are and the Second level is where we are now, and the Third level is where the Daemons are? We haven't been to the Inner Sanctum correct?
What haven't we checked...and why do we need a Fly spell when we have access to the Caves and levels 1-3 is there like a level 4?
Heinrich Cornelius Agrippa |
Ahhh. So we haven't searched the third floor at all.
Father Sidious |
So, just to let you guys know, the funeral was for my dad, and was two states away. It was unexpected, which makes it considerably worse and the fallout from this event will impact a good many people for the forceable future. My stepmom is simply lost and mentally wanders back and forth from denial to moments of clear lucidity. He was a great man and so will be greatly missed. He was a decorated army Colonel and veteran of two wars. In a second career he applied that army skill set to running social services for a large county in Georgia, running the most efficient office in the stat for 17 years. He was all about service and citizenship and even at 80 led a very busy life.
I am back at work today but have missed about a week's work so am pretty far behind. Plus I am obligated to camp this weekend with scouts. And it was 8 degrees at my house this weekend so its going to be a cold campout.
Anyway, I wanted to explain my absence a little better. I hope to soon be back to more regular posting. Thanks for putting up with my absence.
Heinrich Cornelius Agrippa |
Sorry for your loss brother. Don't worry about us. Take care of yourself.
Johan Hale |
Sid, thanks for sharing with us during this tough time. My condolences and best wishes to you and your family.
DM Aku |
@All
I've talked about this once, I’ll do so again.
I'm updating for you a complete map of the horn, caverns included. Since the 'sanctum' is just one big room, I’ll put it too.
It'll be your responsibility to keep the map up to date. For convenience sake, I’ll update a numbered map, with secrets and such, and the description of each room again.
==//==
Consider this: This place is your dungeon, and you are the villains to populate it. In a strange way, you are the DM to create the dungeon.
Plan traps, challenges, defenses. Recruit allies and monsters to help you defend the place. Creating an organization at level 7 really helps, since it allows you to use the followers as ‘manpower’ to create things and as cannon folder.
==//==
Edit: I'll finish 2nd, 3rd and Sactum floor later.
Heinrich Cornelius Agrippa |
Agrippa will work on summoning as many devils/daemons as he can!
Johan Hale |
So, does that mean we can assume the place is "pacified?" and safe to wander around in and call our own?
DM Aku |
This may be a major undertaking.
Yep, this is big. :)
I will need to better understand our resources.
You have what you have at your char. Wanna build traps? You would need K:Eng to understand how they works, wanna put monsters and have then living without eating each other? You would need the related Knowledge to said monster to know how to do it.
You can always hire others for do this. It does not mean the character has to do everything. (This is one of the other benefits of an organization at level 7)
I can imagine Sidious converting a temple to Asmodeus, and raising a number of undead to guard it.
If that's what you want, you can sure do it.
