Ok guys, so the game begins in the wonderful town of Westcrown (i uploaded a map in the campaign Info). A majority of this game is in this town and don't stray to far from it. Because of the game, im gonna say that all of you are not at all found of the government in this town. You all dont HAVE to start knowing each other. A young woman has recruited you all and asked you to attend a meeting with her at Vizio’s Tavern that same afternoon for an early dinner (customarily about 4 o’clock), at which point she promises further information. and thats where we will begin. got time sake, we will say its about 3 o'clock pm
Verus Sylla |
A tall rugged human named Verus enters Visio's Tavern. He's dressed in loose fitting garb that covers his neck and arms. As he enters the tavern he visibly surveys the room. "No one here I recognize, though it's not like I know every slave hunter out there." Verus thinks to himself. When he's satisfied that no one here is an imminent threat, he finds himself a table at the back of the room with clear line of sights to all the exits.
Taking his seat, Verus catches the attention of the bar keep and calls out, "I'll have an ale." Verus then proceeds to keep an eye on his surroundings while he waits for the bar keep. "I don't usually take meetings from people I don't know, but I need the coin. I hope I don't regret this."
Lady Marianna |
Marianna finishes the training of the young miss of House Oberigo to go and meet this strange contact who invited her to Vizio's. "Eirtein is a kind nobleman allowing me to move around the training today so I could get to the tavern." she thinks as she walks through the town.
She enters the tavern, a short woman who is quite compact looking almost like a tall dwarf, she takes a look around the tavern looking for an available seat around the back so she could look out for the young woman who invited her. She sees a table with onle one person and walks over to Verus, after getting an ale from the barkeeper on the way. "Hi stranger mind if I sit here for a while? I'm just waiting for someone to join me later, so I'll get away if you are holding the seats."
Ephiril the collector |
A few minutes before 3 a young man enters the tavern.
Ephiril is a rather average sized young man with a regular frame, with shoulderlong honey coloured hair and inquisitve green eyes, legacy of his father. He has clever, long hands with a surprisingly strong grip. He is smartly dressed in blue trousers of chelaxian linnen, with a trendy red stripe and a egg shelled embroided tunic over a white shirt. Looking around he sees a lot of people, some workmen an odd couple, so he finally decides for a place at the bar. As it is quite early he smiles at the bartender and orders a watered down cranbarry cider, putting a silver and some copper on the bar.
I am curious, what will happen next. Father told me many a story but usually left the first part out. What will happen if this woman does not show up. She said she has hired others. Well this is gonna be interesting!
Udaas |
A hard eyed man of relatively slight build, Udaas surveyed the inn. He was, perhaps, not the most remarkable looking person, though his yellow cloak likely made him stand out somewhat. He was more than a little curious to see what this woman wanted, and, hopefully, he would not have to wait too long to find out. Still, if he was going to have to wait, he may as well get a drink while he was here.
He moved silently over to the barkeep, “One ale, please,” he said, taking a seat at the bar.
Lady Marianna |
Marianna sees the woman who she is sure is the person she was approached by the other day. She pays for the drink and walks over to her table. "Good afternoon I'm a little early for our meeting, but I hope we still pass the time." she says taking a chair close to the wall placing her bardiche and shield against it.
Ephiril the collector |
As the woman walks in, Ephiril takes a moment to look at her lovely shape before taking his mug and bows slightly to her, then nods to the stocky woman. [b]"I am glad to meet you again. Putting his bardiche to the others he sits down.
Lady Marianna |
Marianna nods back and the half elf "Well met guess you are to join us? You have quite a colorful attire." she says as she looks his clothes over.
Verus Sylla |
Verus gives the bar keep 2 sp and couple of copper with a nod of thanks. He then sees his contact enter the tavern and take a seat at the back, only to be joined by two others. "I guess I'm not the only one she's looking to hire."
Verus stands and makes his way to the table with the others. As he takes his seat, he turns to the short woman and says with a grin as he holds out his hand, "I guess you and I were waiting for the same person. The name is Verus by the way. And you are?"
Lady Marianna |
"Well it looks that way." She smiles "I am Lady Marianna, name not a title. It's nice to meet you Verus." she says shaking Verus' hand.
Ephiril the collector |
Looking down at himself Epheril shrugs. "One has to keep appearances. And to be honest, it is not that colourful. Haven´t you heard blue trousers with a cheliax red stripe are the most wear this season!" With a deadly serious tone it is not obvious if he wants to pull Lady´s leg or not.
Lady Marianna |
"Well sure appeareances is important, but you could be mistaken for one with money not always a good thing in a tavern like this." She says and notices a new person joins the table. "Hello, I guess we are if she has also invited you."
Janivent |
"so i see we are getting to know each other, please lets all have a seat we have much to discuss"
she calls to the bar keep "uma please close the bar down, we need... time and bring our friends some drinks please. Such a good lad, traded a sword for him.."
she smiles and speaks "In case you forgot, my names Janivent and again, thank you for agreeing to meet with me here. I have chosen each of you for a singular reason—everyone here, myself included, has suffered, whether we realize it or not. I have lived in Westcrown my whole life, and although I love this city, I must admit, as must you, that despite our peace and prosperity, we continue to suffer. Fear should not be an expected part of life, and yet each night brings fear to our doorsteps. Yes, Westcrown has been safe from war and famine for nearly seventy years, and yes, our businesses has prospered—but this safety and prosperity has been bought in the coinage of fear and prayers to Hell. Other lands live free from tyranny. Other cities do not fear the night. Other governments do not cede the streets to monsters of the infernal shadows. Westcrown was once such a place, and she wants to be such a place again. Westcrown is not only her buildings and canals and docks and history—she is also her people. Westcrown is our friends and neighbors, our mothers and fathers, our siblings and cousins, our sons and daughters! With but a small group of supporters and dedicated brothers and sisters, we can earn the trust and admiration of those people. A Westcrown free of these shadowy beasts that stalk our streets is one step closer to a Westcrown free of the devil that is the Thrice-Damned House of Thrune!"
Ephiril the collector |
Ephiril listens to the words of Janira and sips from his drink.
A Westcrown where we can walk the streets at night. That would be grand, but how!
He takes a deep breath and nods."A worthy goal. And I would glad to help with this. The only question is. How?"
Lady Marianna |
"This woman thinks just like me about this city." Marinna takes a dip of her drink and look deep in thought.
"I can only agree with you Janivent, I'm relative new to Westcrown having lived in a small town outside of her tall buildings all my life. But I could see as I entered to work at the Oberigo house that something was very wrong. I would love to send the shadows of hell back and reinstate the lawfulness of the Master of the First Vault, I believe Abadar's teachings will benefit this town alot more and open more trade to the outside of Cheliax. But I'm just a simple guard/instructor how can we do this?"
Verus Sylla |
Verus narrows his eyes slightly at the mention of owning the boy. He unconsciously rubs the back of his neck where his slave mark is to make sure its still covered. Verus's attention is briefly lost from the conversation as he looks over Uma. "Of course she had to own slaves. At least she seems to treat him well."
As Verus realizes he wasn't paying attention, he quickly refocuses on the conversation at hand. "Interesting. She wants to rid the town of the creatures that stalk the night and free the town of Thrune. Seems to align with my goals. I've been wanting to get to the bottom of those rumors and fears I've heard around town"
Hearing the others reply, Verus concurs with their assessment. "Your goals are admirable Janivent. I myself have wanted to look into the rumors of the creatures that stalk the night. However, I must concur with the others you have brought here. What exactly do you plan for us?"
Udaas |
“An insane goal, perhaps, but a worthy one nonetheless. I suppose those are the best kind," said Udaas. He couldn’t exactly claim ignorance of all the less than pleasant matters that took place within this city, really, nobody lived here could. Indeed, his status as a performer likely meant that he moved in certain circles who were more aware than some, and were also viewed with greater suspicion than most. It was, he supposed, rather amusing that every regime, no matter how powerful and established, seemingly lived in fear of songwriters and playwrights. But, they did, and were plenty willing to act on said fear, as Udaas had learned long ago. He figured that he may as well make the effort to prove these fears to be well founded. Caution may have dictated to not immediately trust this woman, but, were she truly some agent of Cheliax, likely they were all f@$~ed anyhow at this point.
“And how do you propose that we go about doing as you suggest?”
Janivent |
"My partner and mentor was due to meet us here and his absents upsets me but none the less things go on. These words i speak to you must not be repeat to anyone or you will be swiftly arrested for high treason and executed."
As she is speaking a sudden pounding on the front door startles Janivent who, in one swift action grabs her bow and knocks a arrow. and slowly begins to approach the door.
"Morosino, what are you doing here?" she says calmly to the out of breath young teen
"They’ve got Arael! he shouts out before falling to his knees in a coughing fit from the long run
Janivents face grows grim as she turns to look at the group then back to Morosino and asks him to explain everything to her. She escorts him to the table with you guys. Please calm down my son and explain everything to me, come have a sit and drink some water
After a couple minutes he starts "The dottari nabbed Arael, and the Hellknights of the Rack are trying to get custody of him! There’s a bunch of Hellknights on their way here now! I only just made it in here; they’ve already surrounded us!"
Janivent perks up as she hears the sound of clanking armor advancing.
"i am very sorry for involving you in this matter my friends." as loud banging starts on the front door.
Janivent jumps to her feet and runs behind the bar. she pops up a latch and pulls open a secret door. Come, all of you. down the latter now before they get in.
Lady Marianna |
"Things deteriorated quickly." Marianna says as she gets up togather her arms and shield and hurry over to the trapdoor. Going down the ladder she asks Janivent "Where does this lead to?"
Ephiril the collector |
Ephiril is shocked when Morosino starts to explain and when he hears that they are surrounded.Hellknights! With the meager funds we have now, I couldn´t even bribe the dottari. By Asmodeus huge tail, what has happened to me! But then Janivent opens a secret door he quickly grabs his weapon and hustles through the door.
Janivent |
"The sewers, The fastest way to lose someone. Follow Morosino, he knows the way, i will catch up" she reply's as she begins to knock over liqueur shelves and igniting the liqueur. as the last member enters the tunnel she deploys a couple tangle foot bags around then closes the trap door.
Award your selves 1200xp, we are on a medium chart
As Janivent drops into the tunnel, she pulls out a sun rod and activates it. As the tunnel becomes illuminated you see a crude 20-foot-long, 5-foot-wide hallway with a simple wooden door. Janivent Opens the door and as the last member enters the sewer, Janivent grabs a wooden bar and bars the door. "That should slow them down if they follow us" she snickers and looks around the door frame.
You enter sewer to a small ledge just above the water line of the sewer which runs left to right, and notice Janivent and Morosino feelings along the door frame. Janivent quickly points to a small mark on the frame in the shape of a sword. The sword here points to the left. "See these markings, they are on every intersection. Look for them and should you ever get lost, the sword always points to the safe house"
Janivent kneels down and pushes aside a small rock just to the side of the door to find a small hole and lets out a huge sigh. "Good, there still here" as she pulls out a small bag of vials filled with a milky white liquid. "My personal healing stash, we wont have time to stop and rest with those goons after us" as she hands each of you 3 vials.
You guys good, lets go
Lady Marianna |
Marianna accepts the vials with a worried look "What about you, will you be safe?" she says looking like she is torned between staying and getting the hell out of here, being in the sewer doesn't help exactly because of the smell.
Verus Sylla |
Previously
"F%*!... Hellknights?!? I did not need this kind of heat. Who is this lady and what has she gotten me in to," Verus thinks to himself as he quickly grabs his stuff and heads to the trap door. He makes sure everyone (including the bar keep) is out of the tavern first before descending through the trapdoor himself.
Now
Upon reaching the bottom, Verus has a noticeable scowl on his face. He then addresses Janivent. "I got about a million questions for you but as my compatriot just mentioned now ain't the time, but when it is, I want some answers." He then draws his bow as he addresses the rest of the group. "We need to move now. I'll cover the rear."
Lady Marianna |
"Alright let me move ahead I have a shield to shrug of an attack of two if someone is down here already." Marianna says going to the front to spear head the group with her bardiche and shield ready for anything.
Janivent |
No worrys about me lass, There are plenty of vials.
Janivent begins to walk, placing one foot in front of the other. "Be extra carefull on these ledges they are slippary Acrobatic checks per 30ft of movement pwees.
She then begins to explain the markings while walking "Arael and I made these marks a few months ago when we explored the sewers. We marked all the intersections so our people could find their way through the sewers to our hideout."
As you are walking, the noise of the Hellknights back at Vizio’s Tavern diminishes, but Janiven has a worried face “They might take a few minutes to search in the tavern, but some are going to follow us down here after they grab a lantern or make torches. They might even try to infiltrate the sewers ahead of us if they can guess our route."
Around a corner Janivent pops into a small room off to the side. "I think it would be wise to spilt up, i hate for the hellknights to capture us all in one large group. Im going to go on ahead with Morosino to the safe house. Remember to look for the markings in the intersections if you get lost, the point always points to the safe house and if you all dont show up by noon tomorrow i will come back down and search for you. Dont stay in one place for to long, im sure the hellknights will be hot on our tall and who knows if there are other creatures that live down here."
With that said she hands one of you the sunrod "Try your best not to use the sunrod to much as its like a beacon for the hellknights to your location. Good luck and ill see you soon" and swiftly bolts around the corner with the young teen in tow
Verus Sylla |
Keeping his eyes on trail they just followed, Verus quietly call out to his compatriots. "Lady was it? Do you want to take the lead? I'd rather not have to explain to the hellknights what a group of armed civilians are doing in the sewers."
perception looking for incoming threats: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (13) + 5 = 18
acrobatics check if needed: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (11) + 4 = 15
Udaas |
Udaas takes the sunrod, since, from the looks of it, he was likely the one who least needed both his hands to be free to be effective in combat.
perception to see threats and things: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 5 = 7
acrobatics: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3
huh, well, at least I did not get those rolls in combat, I guess :P
Udaas |
"Right, back again, a lovely day for a little dive, but I suppose we do not have much time to enjoy these waters," said Udaas, seemingly unfazed as he climbed back up and returned to the group. He did a couple of quick, quiet castings of Prestidigitation to clean off any particularly troubling shit he might have picked up, after all, the last thing he needed was to get sickened.
"Shall we continue?"
PixiePym |
We will use the 2nd sewer map for this encounter
As you walk, you encounter a junction with what looks like pieces of wood blocking 2 paths. Sewer water is freely passing under the wood pile. You can barely see over the top of the wood. To the right, you can see a very faint glow reflecting off the wall as well as the sewer going farther on. Straight the sewer continues straight ahead. To the left, the you can see a dead end.
Verus Sylla |
I take it we are entering from the left?
As they approach the intersection, calls out to the new party, "She said to follow the sword point. Anyone see any markings?" As Verus begins to search for the markings he thinks to himself, "Please point to the right, I really don't want to have to swim."
perception for markings: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (11) + 5 = 16
Ephiril the collector |
Following Lady carefully Ephiril thanks the Abadar for his elven eyes he notices the light gone and whispers to the others."The light is gone. Beware!" He quickly casts a spell. Heigthen awareness.
