Hello all and congratulations on your selection. Please feel free to discuss and adjust your characters before giving them a final review.
Since you are all starting at 7th level and have missed the activities of the first two books, let us say that you know each other and are all an established adventuring group (feel free to pick a name for yourselves) and have been adventuring together for the last 6-12 months (i.e. about 4 levels worth). You're all good (NG/LG), so you tend to get along. So feel free to adjust skills/feats/etc. if you so desire if you think they overlap with someone else in the group or combine well with someone.
Any comments or questions, let me know. I will post some house rules later on so you get a feel for my style.
Happy gaming!
Althamis |
Hello all, happy to be selected! Looks like a fun group....I bring the paladin goodness, the immunity to fear, evasion, and all around sneak attack/smite melee juiciness, especially if I am flanking with my gal Tania! Since I can disable device magical traps and have it maxed out at +19 with MW tools, perhaps our little investigator buddy can move some skill points from DD over to something else more useful. For healing, I have some channels and lay on hands, but we're definitely going to need wands. Just some thoughts.
Voyla Sloboda |
Thank for the selection. I am glad of playing with all of you.
Voyla brings ranged damage, and about skills her thing is:
Acrobatics +8 and Climb +9 (to fire from above)
Diplomacy +14 and Sense Motive +16 (Party face)
Disable Device +5 (Can try and Aid Althamis)
Intimidate +11 (She can be hard)
Knowledge (Arcana, Dungeoneering, Nature, Planes) +4, ID monster +7 to help with identification.
Knowledge (Religion) +10 ID monster +13 - Her specialty
Perception +18, Disguise +8 and Stealth +14 (The scout with Althamis)
Perform (Oratory) +5 (To preach to the choir)
Survival (Follow or identify tracks) +10 (The party tracker)
She already has a Wand of Cure Light Wounds.
About her abilities, a nice one is Determination
In short, 3/day we can force an enemy to reroll an attack roll. Is very useful if they crit us. She can also reroll "important" attacks that she miss, but the "critical negation" use is the best one.
Voyla Sloboda |
If you plan on using the domain abilities (touch attacks, right?) then go for it. If you realize you won't, then the cleric level is "expendable".
Althamis |
I agree with Voyla, although I will say that staggered ability with no save is sweet, but up to you. I may move some ranks from Diplomacy since Voyla appears to have that covered to UMD perhaps since we are light on divine and arcane.
Althamis |
Agreed, we can gang up on solo bosses and keep them trapped and staggered while Voyla and the halfling pepper them with ranged.
Kerzan Brimbelt |
Hi everyone, checking in!
Happy to let our tall holy burglar friend focus on lockpicking :) This lets me round out my Knowledges nicely.
I was contemplating slapping on a Forensic Physician archetype - something tells me that the blood-reading abilities may come in handy in this AP :) And it fits the scholarly theme as well. However it requires me to give up either a talent or a feat, and that's a bit of a pain.
@GM JD - where do we start in terms of story - do we assume that the events of the first two books occurred without our involvement? Do we know anything at all about the Whispering Way?
Jack Daniels |
Kerzan, the story will start out as your adventuring group (name TBD) is hired by an NPC to track some Whispering Way agents. You will roll Knowledge (checks) in game to learn about the group but be unaware of the events of the first two books.
Okay, now that everyone has checked in, here are rules/house rules:
1. Please submit at least one post within a 24-hour period and if you cannot do, please advise me here on the boards or via PM. I can NPC you for a limited basis but tend to not like doing so. Extended absences can be a reason to release you from the game.
2. I believe in the "Take 10" rule for common actions, such as stealth, climb, disable device, etc. Same for Perception (unless you specifically decide to take 20 and incur the time penalty). So your stealth score is 10+your ranks and there is no need to roll. Same with Perception checks for surprise, etc.
3. I will roll initiative (block initiative usually) and saves for you (unless it's a save or die effect - in that case you will roll).
4. At times, I take creative liberties for more dramatic effects.
5. Knowledge (checks) - I will describe what you know about the creature and it is assumed you share the knowledge with the party.
6.Voyla, I generally tend to shy away from immediate action abilities in PbP, as they bog down the game while we wait for the player's reaction, so I will use your ability on the first 3 threats I roll unless you use them in some other fashion on your turn.
7. Please use the "Race and Levels" tabs in your character's profile to include your hps, initiative, saves, AC, limited abilities per day, etc. so I have that information at a glance.
8. In your combat posts, please include your AC and buffs and duration so we keep track of them.
That's all for now. I need a name for the group or I will pick one for you. :)
Voyla Sloboda |
Sounds good.
About the name, what about "The Albion Flames"?
Or "Danger Knights"?
"Grey Knights"?
Althamis |
Ok, moved some skill points around (UMD +11 now), got rid of the glammered ability from armor and bought a Headband of Charisma +2, increasing saves and smite hit and AC, and social skills. I am left with 557 gp if we want to contribute to wands.
I like Grey Knights.
Kerzan Brimbelt |
Grey Knights sounds a bit.. lawful neutral? Kerzan is not very knightly, nor is he grey! Though I suppose I could flavor him being grey-haired or even wearing a grey wig :)
I was thinking something along the lines of 'Trouble Catchers' maybe...
Seeing as a few members have checkered backgrounds, 'The Reformed' perhaps?
If we really want to explore the shades of grey...
Grey Flames of Caliphas?
Lorrimor's Grey Legacy?
The Grey Hawks of Caliphas?
EDIT: Lorrimor's Grey Heirs
The Grey Shades of Caliphas (Lorrimor), d'oh
Kerzan Brimbelt |
As for Kerzan's combat routine, the idea is to open with a Knowledge check against the monster. On success I grant all who can hear me within 30 feet +1 insight bonus to AC and saves vs that monster type for 5 rounds as a move action. I can end this effect early to convert it into +1d6 precision damage on everybody's next attack instead.
If I spend an inspiration point and a swift action against an identified monster, then I can grant additional +4 bonus to attack rolls for 1 round to all who can hear me within 30 feet.
On further rounds, I can use Effortless Aid with Covering Fire and Helpful trait to grant +4 untyped bonus to AC to one ally as a move action if I succeed on a ranged attack vs AC10 (95% chance).
All the while firing for 1d4+6 damage with Focused shot as a standard action. If someone is in need of a bonus to Attack roll, I can switch to a spear and poke AC10 from a safe position (90% chance) to give a +4 aid another bonus instead.
Also I have Infusions, so if anybody has a specific alchemist extract they want to get, please let me know.
Now if I choose to go with Forensic Physician, I would have to give up two of those abilities until level 9, in exchange for bonuses to Heal checks for identifying diseases, desinfecting objects, and learning from blood samples who, when and how spilled that blood. If we would start at level 9 this would be a no-brainer, right now I'm on the fence.
Tania Teg |
Nice combos! I guess it depends on the two things you'd have to let go. I'd say one round of bonuses is tricky as we need to be in position, no? Might be hard to pull off in a 'real' situation.
Tania has potions, but she would welcome potions of Enlarge Person and/or Long Arm, Expeditious Retreat, and anything else for CMB, reach, avoiding damage, and getting in flanking position.
Althamis |
Kerzan, I think you should stick with your current archetype; it has great buffs.
As for me, I would benefit most from your Shield and Barkskin infusions.
Kerzan Brimbelt |
Ok so I'll stick with just one archetype, but I have still modified the character a bit: Got rid of Disable Device, Diplomacy and Sense Motive skills, instead picked up Knowledge: History and directed my FCB to hit points for the first 3 levels and formula book thereafter. Also bought a CLW wand and I have a bit over 1K gp as a pocket change. Ready for adventure!
Voyla Sloboda |
Besides some arrows, Voyla is OK equipment-wise (I think). So you can count on her money. But healing wands and Restoration-Deathward consumables should be considered.
Voyla Sloboda |
Lesser Restoration has material components, right?
What about buying 4 Death Ward scrolls?
And another CLW wand?
Kerzan Brimbelt |
No, I think only non-Lesser versions have material components.
Ok so how about we buy 4x DW scrolls and 1x CLW wand for 3550 gp and split the rest for 612.5 gp each?
Also I think the scrolls/wands should be spread out between several people who can use them.
Technically, Lesser Restoration can also be cast as a 1st-level paladin spell BTW, so with GM approval we could get a bunch of scrolls for cheap.
Kerzan Brimbelt |
That would be Remove Curse I think. We probably need to get a couple of those too.

Althamis |
I believe we would need CL 12 Remove Disease scrolls, which cost 900gp each.
2 CLW Wand:1500 gp
4 DW Scrolls: 2800 gp
1 Remove Disease Scroll CL 12: 900
800 gp remaining or 200 gp each
Voyla Sloboda |
Sounds great!
You can use Voyla's remaining 200gp.
Or she can put another 100 gp to buy a second Remove Disease Scroll.
Althamis |
2 CLW Wands: 1500
4 DW Scrolls (1 each): 2800
2 Remove Disease Scrolls (CL 12): 1800
Total: 6100 gp
We each chip in 25 gp for the missing 100 and we are done!
Voyla Sloboda |
This one is on me. I'll take the 100gp from Voyla.
Thaks for doing the shopping Althamis.
Voyla Sloboda |
Hello?
Voyla Sloboda |
I hope so
Voyla Sloboda |
How are you all?
