You have all found your way to Hulburg for the Harvest festival, a holiday that marks a time of travel before the hard winter sets in. Along the streets, many stalls and booths are selling local and exotic goods, and every corner seems to hold a group of performers. While it is busy and full of energy, the town is peaceful.

You have been here since early this morning, wandering the streets and taking in the sights, you have each decided on this tavern for a nice lunch. It has come highly recommended for its meat pies and autumnal ale...

You may do some RP and intermingle. We have 3 who have confirmed, which is minimum table size. So we will proceed to see if we can get any of the others to join us before we get too far into this module!

The attractive half-elven man enters the bar, order the autumn ale and a meat pie, then finds a corner to sit in. He sits taking in the atmosphere of the room and making mental notes.

When the female servers pass by his table, he will flirt with them a bit but continues scanning the room as if looking for something...or someone.

Garzak enters the tavern, brushing away the dust he's gathered. Due to his small size he had been shoved around all day, and he checks his pockets to ensure that the tiny amount of gold he has is still there.

He sits on the main table and tries to get the attention of a waitress.

"ONE OF THOSE PIES PLEASE AND A MUG OF ALE! HOT!" he says. He looks around to see who else might be here.

Will set up the statline later today

The serving girls blush at Shoun's attentions and pay him entirely too much attention for the barkeep's liking, as the big man shoots the half-elf a dirty look.

As Garzak calls out, the nearest serving girl gives him a double-take when she realizes that it is a goblin calling out to her! She moves to the barkeep and exchanges words with him, causing the man to peer out from behind the bar. His eyes narrow, but he seems to come to a conclusion and he nods to the girl. Soon, a steaming meat pie and a spiced ale are delivered to the table, Here you are, sir... Begging your pardons, sir, might you be cursed, or something?

At your, no doubt, quizzical look, she gestures at your body. It soon becomes clear to you that she has never seen a civilized goblin before...

"NO I AM NOT CURSED! WHAT DO I LOOK LIKE? A HALFLING WITH THE POX? I AM BLESSED! THE BLOOD OF THE RED DRAGONS RUN THROUGH MY VEINS!" Garzak says. He makes the spice ale boil with his Prestidigation spell.

He laughs maniacally.

"Now get me a fork. Are you expecting me to eat this pie with my bare hands?" Garzak grumbles.

At Garzak's outburst, Shound will stand up and make his way over to Garzak's table, then say "Easy friend. There's no need to shout at the lovely young lady; she was just curious. I'm sure that no one here wants any trouble."

Ammon has traveled far and his stained, dusty gear will attest to the hardships he has met on the road. The chance to relax during a quaint harvest festival is an opportunity he would not willingly pass up. Keeping his hood firmly up, he slowly walks among the many tables and stalls; paying for an apple here, and some roast fowl there and a cup of cider at a halfling's stall...the proprietor already having almost succumbed to his own product. He finally begins to tire of the walking and makes for the local tavern for a quiet meal and rest.

Walking into the place he sees several people are already settled and so sits at a stool at the corner of the bar.

"If you would, I would like a tray of meats, cheese and a flagon of spiced ale."

He places a few silver coins on the bar to show the proprietor that he has money.

Before his meal arrives, he sighs and lowers his hood. He waits for the exclamations and shouts, hoping that maybe this place might be different for the many others he has visited. His deep red skin contrasts with the inky-black of his hair. The two short horns on his head slightly curl inward, as if trying to touch over the crown of his skull. His yellow cat-like eyes, so good at piercing the dark, flit around the room to take in the reaction to his demonic visage.

"You are mistaken... elf. I wasn't shouting at her to berate her; merely to show her who I be. And what are you doing here?" Garzak says, sipping his hot ale.

An old looking humanoid walks in. He has a slight hunch upon which rests a backpack overflowing with papers and wears hooded robes that bear stylized rivers flowing from a star.

He walks over to the barkeep and leans in, "I vould like corner table. I vill be vorking and vill have food in candle and half. Please do not bother until zhen."

After speaking to the barkeep he heads for the most isolated corner table, sets his pack on the table, and begins rooting through it. After sone papaers gave fountained out he pulls out a book and opens it to a tabbed page. He then puts the excess papers into a plie next to the book. Placing his hands on the open book pages, he closes his eyes and begins mumbling and tracing designs on the paper with his fingers.

Lawrick looks around the tavern a bit more, picking out some interesting characters. A tiefling, a... halfling? Does he have the pox? Oh... it's a goblin. Wonder how he got here. Maybe he likes the pie. Speaking of pie... Lawrick turns around and takes a bit from his meal. Delicious...

Lawrick, you and Shoun recognize the goblin agent of your faction. Recently, there have been an influx of the creatures, and though have not met this one, you have certainly heard his name about the Zhentarim.

--

The door opens, and a dwarf dressed as a servant scans the room, eyes lingering on Sashah and Ammon. He double-takes on the robed goblin but shakes his head, as if discarding a thought.

He approaches Sashah first, placing a envelope upon the table, Master Sashah, your reputation precedes you. My master, Lumin Fetterbond, requests that you join him for dinner.

Sashah:
Upon opening the envelope, there is simply a symbol of the Harpers.

Then he stops at Ammon's table, eyeing the tiefling warily, My master also invites you to dinner, master of the arcane.

Ammon:
The invitation is written in blocky print, similar to what you'd expect a dwarf to right. Despite this, the calligraphy is fairly elegant in its simplicity.

The servant casts a glance around the room again, as if looking for someone that he expects to be here. His gaze falls upon the goblin again, but instead, he moves toward the barkeep and hinds the invitation to the burly human, If a sorcerer, known as the RedDrake, comes by, please give him this invitation...

The servant turns at the outburst and hesitates for a moment before Garzak snatches the invitation from his hands. The servant quickly regains composure and bows before taking his leave.

Garzak:

Lawrick focuses on the goblin again. It's him! Garzak! My, my, didn't expect to cross his path... Bit louder than I thought he would be. And who is the dwarf? Lawrick spots the half elf that was talking to Gazark earlier (Shoun) He walks up to him and nods in the direction of the goblin. Well, he's certainly an interesting character. Lawrick says about Garzak.

Ooh. Interesting.

Garzak looks around. He makes secret Zentarim hand signals to indicate that those of his faction should come speak to him.

Surely it couldn't be the halfling? And that high elf? Boy they take anyone these days... Grazak thinks, wiping off the breadcrumbs off his robe.

When they approach Garzak shows them the note... briefly, and indicating quite clearly that this note was given to HIM, the RedDrake.

The old half-elf looks up from his ritual at the letter. The letter then floats upward and opens seemingly displaying itself before the man's aged eyes.

After a few moments of looking at the letter, the elder man grabs his pack and slings it over his back. Then grabbing the book he held, he begins to exit the tavern with the letter and other papers that lied on the table following him through the air and being slid back into his pack. All the while the man scratched his beard and mumbled repeatedly, "..Fetterbond..."

Ammon looks at the others who received the invitations, and narrows his eyes as the goblin accepts his letter (or more to the point, grabs it from the dwarf's hand).

He sits for awhile, continuing his drink and wondering if he knows anyone here. Many belong to The Alliance, and perhaps this dwarf's master is one...but why the goblin.

Finishing up, he gathers his pack and heads to the door, and out to this mysterious meeting.

Garzak and Lawrick:

"So we're clear, I don't like being potentially outed in a situation like this. My work is...delicate, and I do my best not to draw exactly this type of attention to myself."

Shoun dusts himself off and then adds "Now that that's settled, Let's make plans to deal with this dinner situation. We should probably discuss what each of us can do, so that we can be prepared in the event this is a trap. I'll even go first: I'm a social engineer and people person. I use fire magic in combat (thanks to my ancestry), but I mostly like setting people up to be destroyed."

You each find the Fetterbond Manor relatively easily on the opposing side of the marketplace, and are greeted by a halfling butler, Good afternoon, sirs. May I take your cloaks? The master is expecting you.

Upon entering Fetterbond Manor, you notice that it is ornately decorated. A silver-rimmed mirror covers one foyer wall, and plush cushions and chairs fill the lounge.

Fetterbond, a middle-aged dwarf in embroidered robes, offers a carafe of mulled mead and smiles wanly, I've got an errand that needs some attention. Have any of you heard of the White Well?

Intelligence (Religion) DC 13:
The embroidery on his robes would indicate the symbols of Azuth, god of knowledge. No doubt he is one of Azuth's faithful. It certainly would explain how he knew of certain hidden truths.

Intelligence (History) DC 15:
The White Well is an accursed pit that is said to be in the Galena Mountains nearby. Some say that it was dedicated to an ancient one called Hadar of the Endless Hunger.

The dwarven nods to Shoun in appreciation, Whether the Endless Hunger or not, I can confirm it as a site of great evil and my portents have told me that something vile will be released into this world if it is unsealed. I suspect that it has a fiendish origin, but I have not divined the source of its power. Its alien nature seems to cloud my divinations.

Now, to the matter at hand. I have foreseen that my nemesis will unseal the well in only a few days. I thwarted Nasreet Olim, a powerful diviner in his own right, in his quest to obtain a powerful elemental spellbook almost two decades ago. Now he has a grudge against me, and I fear that he may release this horror upon my clan despite my exile from the clan a half-century ago.

Lumin Fetterbond clears his throat uncomfortably in remembrance of that uncomfortable time...

Will post later, but if you have any questions for him, you may post them now.

Lumin smiles at the goblin sorcerer, Nasreet is one of his folk, gesturing to Lawrick, and is a diviner of no small power. He no doubt has manipulated things so that there will be obstacles in your way, whether they serve him directly or not.

He produces a small coffer and places it on the table, As for payment, I have 250 pieces of gold that is yours upon completion. In addition, I think this will be dangerous, so I will also give you a pair of healing potions to help you stay alive.

The elder Fetterbond sighs, showing his age for the first time since you arrived, The Grommurg clan has a village two day's travel off. I must warn you that they are somewhat reclusive. They are not the most welcoming of outsiders. I would also warn you not to use my name, as I am embarrassed to say, my interest in studying lore amongst the humans, elves, and halflings of the area made me somewhat of a pariah among my own people. And I may have tried to open the well, myself... Curiosity of youth is a hell of a drug...

After a sip from his brandy snifter, he continues, Anyway, the well is another day's hike beyond the village. My divinations give you at most four sunrises before things turn dire... Perhaps learning my own folly has led me to hire you all to make amends for my old mistakes.

Will you do this for me... he looks directly at Garzak, ... and my coin?

"So you tried to open the well? And what happened?" Garzak asks.
