Shalelu moves in front of Naomi (D4) in order to get a better shot at the goblin firing from the tower. Shalelu's attack: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (16) + 7 = 23, damage: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5. Her shot hits its target, despite the cover provided by the stockade. The goblin yells in pain and falls back, murmuring some curses about 'elfies'. He isn't incapacitated yet but close to it.
Izbahn magical cold ray finds its mark, but doesn't finish off nor completely freezes the goblin in the tower. No crit there. Not long after, the goblin disappears from view after uttering some more goblin obscenities. He's either hiding behind the stockade or he left the tower.
As Naomi blesses Izbahn with a good luck rune, Venmirl strikes down another goblin dog with a mighty morningstar blow.
Perhaps distracted by his recent kill, Venmirl doesn't protect himself properly from the last remaining goblin dog. The oversized rodent jumps up and try to rip open the inquisitor's throat with its large incisors. Venmirl survives the furious attack but it leaves a large cut at the base of his neck. Nasty crit here. 15 points of damage, bringing Venmirl down to 2/29
To the north, the goblin's dogslicer comes close to hitting Darst a few time, but Darst's defensive style still keeps him out of harm for now.
The last remaining goblin dog yelps loudly as lightning arcs between Izbahn's outstretched hand and the filthy animal skin. The scent of charred flesh fills the air as the 'dog' falls to the ground.
Meanwhile, Darst keeps tumbling around his foe but his blade fails to cut through the leather leggings.
Venmirl's eyes survey the battlefield and, seeing the immediate threat gone, his intense stare and gritted teeth subside. He looks down to his wounds which, now that the fighting has stopped, are far more greater than he felt a moment before.
He uses a bloody hand to grab a miniature totem around his neck and begins to speak in a foreign tongue (Shoanti).
Cure Minor: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9, brings him to 11/29
Looking back to see Darst has been separated from the group, Naomi runs over to tag-team the last goblin, swinging her mace with accuracy inspired by years of training.
Venmirl's magic close his large wound and removes the rash caused by his allergic reaction to the goblin dog's filth. The shoanti still isn't in his best fighting form however.
Naomi: I just realized that, since Darst moved (again) this round, you aren't flanking the goblin. Your attack still hits (you get +2 to attack for charging anyway) but only does 3 points of damage. Too preoccupied with Darst, the goblin foe doesn't notice the strawberry blonde 'longshanks' charging at him. Naomi's mace connects with the goblin's head but the blow lacks the strength to knock him out.
Shalelu shoots an arrow at this last goblin. Attack roll: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (7) + 9 = 16 that's a hit (barely), damage: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6 The goblin tries to duck as the arrows flies between Naomi and Darst but he's too slow by a fraction of a second. The shaft pierces the top of his skull, killing him instantly.
With the sounds of combat gone, the adventurers can now hear muffled cries of alarm coming from somewhere beyond the wooden walls. Any hope of catching more goblins unaware seems gone.
Izbahn looks up to the fortress where the alarm is being raised.
Damn, now WHAT?
He turns to the others and says, "While I think this could turn out very bad especially if they mount a counter attack, I say we press on anyway. If they realize we are trying to rescue those prisoners though...." he leaves the rest of the thought unsaid.
Izbahn sighs, "OK then, we know they are waiting for us, let's not disappoint them." He motions to Darst, "OK take the lead and be careful Darst. They know we are here but we don't know if they are going to wait for us or not, so don't do anything rash."
Backtrack to the bridge and enter Thistletop there, right?"
I'll grab Versatile Channeling later, or switch if story and DM allows.
"Stay strong, Venmirl. We haven't been beaten yet. I can keep one person from being hurt when I channel my ancestor's energy. If the others stay about ten yards back, I can shape the power to ignore you and only harm the goblins."
Cure Light Scroll:1d8 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 2 = 9
"Or Darst, I suppose." Naomi says as Izbahn asks the friendly goblin to scout ahead once more.
"Thank you, friend." Venmirl says to Naomi with a hand on her shoulder. His ragged breathing becomes more steady and he rights himself into a more rigid posture before moving his head back and forth, cracking his neck.
Darst creeps back toward the stockade entrance. Perception check for Darst: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (6) + 6 = 12.
Darst:
You see that the door is now closed (it was slightly ajar earlier) and you hear what sounds like goblin talking on the other side but can't quite make out what they're saying.
Just as a reminder, here's the current hp of everyone:
Izbahn: hp 15/20, rp 10/10
Venmirl: hp 20/29, rp 4/14
Naomi: hp 10/23, rp 11/11
Darst: hp 23/25, rp 0/12
Edit: Shalelu: hp 23/24
Darst sneaks up to the door and tries to listen in.
Moving right next to the door, on total defense. Perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (11) + 6 = 17
Stealth: 1d20 + 20 ⇒ (16) + 20 = 36
If I've understood correctly, I can move quietly to the door, but if anybody's watching, I'll be seen. Correct? And I haven't seen anybody watching, so I'm going to take the chance.
I can't see my previous post, so I'll try this again.
Darst:
That is correct. Your explain-fu is better then mine. Just as you are about to press your ear against the wooden doors, you are surprised by a yell (in goblin) coming from the tower to your right. Up there, you now see two goblins menacing you with bows and arrows
Everyone can hear two goblin voices, apparently shouting at Darst.
Goblin speech:
"Hey! What are you doing there?" asks the first goblin. "The island is for Thistletop goblins only! Go back across the bridge, we'll deal with the longshanks." "Wait a minute..." says the second one. "I know that armor, that's Gogmurt's! Did you steal it? Maybe you're a longshanks' spy! I say we put some arrows in you and see how you squeal.
Darst hesitates for a moment. Then he takes a deep breath and glares at the goblins in the tower. In Goblin: "I'm here to fight your chief! Tell ol' Rotnugget I'm gonna slice his face through! Tell 'im to come out an' fight, if he ain't scared of Longshank Lover!"
Darst draws his silver dagger and holds it up for the goblins to see. "This here is Koruvus's knife! And this is Gogmurt's armor! I killed 'em both, an' Stinknugget's next!
Izbahn listens intently to the goblin's words, then puts a hand on the Shoanti's shoulder. "One moment, I can understand their speech....Hmmm, it sounds like Darst is trying to bluff his way inside." He glances uneasily at the towers above him. "Get ready to move fast, in case his bluff fails."
The two goblin guards look at Darst, evaluating him. Darst, can you give a bluff check, +4 circumstance bonus, due to the items you're sporting (and name dropping).
Dang. That'll probably doom the attempt, given my luck on Charisma-based checks. Here goes....
Bluff: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 1 = 8
:/
If it helps, Darst isn't actually bluffing about anything except how Gogmurt died.
If it helps, Darst isn't actually bluffing about anything except how Gogmurt died.
I guess that's true (in the sense that Darst isn't lying about being the one that killed Koruvus) but you still have to convince the other goblins that's actually true. Your description says Darst is small, even for a goblin, so they might have a hard time believing that. In addition, Darst forgets to mention the help he had and he's acting a bit out of character. He's usually much more meek then that :).
Goblin:
"Yeah, and I've seen Lamashtu's t!ts!" says the second goblin, laughing. It isn't long before the two goblins start pulling arrows on their bows and aiming at Darst.
This is surprise round, with only the 2 goblin guards and Darst being aware (the others can't really see what's happening). Intiatives:
Guard goblins: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6
Darst: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (11) + 8 = 19
Darst acts first (the map above is still valid).
You can only do a standard action in a surprise round, so Darst didn't get to move just yet.
The two goblin guards release their arrow at Darst but the small goblin weaves and spins out of their way.
The adventurers are suddenly alerted by the familiar 'twang' of shooting bows. It seems Darst's bluff failed.
We'll go with individual initiative this time, since I already rolled for Darst.
Izbahn: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3
Naomi: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (7) + 3 = 10
Shalelu: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (18) + 3 = 21
Venmirl: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (12) + 2 = 14
The order will be Shalelu - Darst - Venmirl - Naomi - Goblins - Izbahn.
Shalelu reacts quickly, cursing as she moves past Izbahn. "It seems I got to get him out of trouble again." She disappears into the nearby bushes, stealthy moving to a position where she can spot Darst's attackers (G3).
Hearing Darst's reply, Venmirl tries to go the corner of the wall and get a better look around the edge to see what they are dealing with.
He can do this next turn if necessary.
Stealth: 1d20+4
Perception: 1d20+8
After checking the map, I say you can do this in one round.
Venmirl peers around the corner of the stockade to check Darst's attackers. From this angle, he can't get a full view of the eastern tower but he sees at least one goblin guard up there, armed with a small bow.
I'll update further tonight, even if Naomi/Dragonborn hasn't posted any actions.
"How about we try to provide cover for Darst so that he can try to get inside. Those doors may be locked, but I think Darst may be able to fiddle with it and get them open. If not, I'll bash them in!!"
"The three of you should try to shoot at the goblins up on the ledge, I'll go with Darst to the door. How does that sound?"
Venmirl gives a stern nod to Darst. "OK Darst, let's go. Cover us!"
Once the others are in position to shoot at the goblins, Venmirl runs out with Darst towards the doors with all of his attention focused any potential arrows headed his way. Total Defense, so move only 30' this round.
