Since this little silly interlude is about done, I thought I would post:
A little DM commentary
This will be a bonus track in the upcoming DVD ... As you might have noticed, I had originally planned to do the whole Shayliss event much earlier with Zelazny (our former rogue) and not Izbahn. Shayliss actually met Zelazny at the Festival. Sadly, Zelazny dropped out, so I figured I would just cut the encounter. But then Izbahn started showing a certain ... let's say interest for woman (the poor boy was just deprived for too long) while developing a relationship with Naomi. Throwing Shayliss 'Easy' Vinder between these two suddenly seemed like a perfect fit (I'm evil that way). To use a metaphor, she would be a perfect wrench to put between these two turning gears. I had to wait for a good while to find the right moment to insert it, and this seemed like a perfect distraction while I also had Algar talking with Jargie the tavern keeper. Anyway, I hope you enjoyed it. Now, it remains to be seen if the encounter will have any implications for the future.
That's it for the little glimpse in the (not so) glamorous world of DMing.
Now, a question. I know getting caught with you pants (almost) down isn't the most heroic thing around so I got to ask : do you enjoy those kind of encounters? i.e. encounters that mostly involve RPing but don't necessarily advance the main story. They are mostly there for fun and to develop characters. Judging from all the posts I would think the answer is yes but I just wanted to check with everyone.
Eric Swanson(male (despite all the female characters I play...:P) Human (he he))
I have no problem with the DM throwing stuff like this at us, and yes I did enjoy it. Izbahn has been the goodie two shoes for a while, what with helping the town and all, and I think he was getting a little arrogant and complacent and I wanted to bring him down a peg, make him more human and fallible. I mean, he did befriend a goblin and all, and everyone really seems to think he is a hero. I mean i am sure everyone was expecting him to resist her more. Good way to educate him, he he.
As for these kind of encounters, well obviously you have not checked out certain other PbP's I am in, such as THIS one, he he.
All I can say is, hope Lureene never shows up here, he he
You're making our game into a DVD? When will it be released?!
I enjoy the RP encounters a lot(they're the advantage pbp have over RL games) and am personally going to remember this one for a long time... I don't believe it happened the first time I played in Rise... :)
Darst, would you like to carry a pillow one day? ;)
EDIT: Considering the most recent events, perhaps Izbahn could pull a Darst and get an avatar that doesn't look like he's seen a puddle of muck/Shayliss wink at him?

Surely you wouldn't be suggesting I change my avatar too often? :P
Of course not. In the time I've known you, you've only been: a kobold with a cleaver, a bunch of robes, a floating skull, a marble/ball of swirling colors, a weird gold undead dragon thing...

What robes?
Also, I meant Darst's avatars. :P
Then you should have been Darst wehn you said it.
Darst has been: Gold, a Chef, a goblin with a stick, the most current one, and one or two more I think.
Sorry to but in on your game, but I just wanted to catch Venmil, aka Sinvel, aka Estruven in Atapax's Kingmaker game. Just wanted to find out if Estruven was still wanting to play in the game, or his interest had waned. Wondered if Estruven wouldn't mind putting in an appearance and let us know, cos we're struggling to keep it going and it started out as such a good bunch of players. If you want to let rip at the rest of us or something and let us know if you're still wanting to play and what we can do to make it start up again, then we should all start to speak up on the discussion thread for Atapax's Kingmaker game.
Just a heads up to my players: I'll be away to visit some family from the 23rd to the 30th. I'll probably have little or no internet access, so don't expect any updates during that time. Thank you and happy holidays.
Eric Reed, Kevin Wixson, Mike Kimmel, and Mikko Kallio were selected as alternates.
Mike Kimmel ... I knew I recognized the name. He played our very own Calla. Well, Mike, if you ever see this, congratulations (even if I'm sure you would have preferred being in the 32 selected) and you're welcome to come back and play the barbarian lady again if you wish.
To my players: I have a question. How do you guys like the group initiative I've implemented in the game? I think it does speed up combat a little bit but now that I know you four are reliable, I could do without if you guys prefer.
All of my other PbP games have individual inits, but the DM will roll for each player individually. That saves a LOT of time. I would recommend you roll all of our inits individually.
Sorry I just got back from vacation, but you are right things have slowed down. Darst has not posted in a while, and I cannot remember when Naomi last posted.
I am willing to wait for a while, but if things do not pick up soon here then we either need to get more replacement players or pull the plug on this game.
Indeed, the game has been slow lately and it's in part my own fault. Right now however, I'm currently waiting for a response from Darst, as he's the one in front.
To be totally honest however, I'm not really feeling it anymore. I lost my job last week and so, while I now have plenty of time (for a little while at least ...), I'm sort of lacking the motivation/energy to keep it going. I might be able to do it with a little help from your part but right now it doesn't look likely.
If you want to end this game because you are not feeling it anymore, I completely understand. RL issues have made it difficult to concentrate on this PbP game, along with the others I am in, so it may be for the best to do that.
We should wait to see if Darst and Naomi return though, but I kinda doubt it at this point.
Well, I am sad to say this, but due to the lack of interest shown by both our DM and the other players in this game, I am officially dropping out of this game.
Reptilian, I just wanted to thank you for running this game. This was one of the first PbP games I joined on Paizo and certainly one of the longest running I have participated in. I had a great time playing Izbahn, and though I wish we could have completed the final encounters, it still was a great ride! I know it was tough due to all the player turnover we had in this game, but I am glad you stuck it out as long as you did.
Take care of yourself man, and I hope to see you soon on the boards.
To the other players, I appreciate the chance to interact with you all, especially Darst and Naomi. Even though this story remains unfinished, I would like to think Izbahn settled down in Sandpoint, happily married (to Naomi and not Shayluss I hope), and still trying to keep Darst out of trouble, he he.
I hope to run into you guys again in another PbP game soon.
I'm not sure what to say other then sorry. It's not that I didn't enjoy gaming with you guys (quite the opposite) but I've had other things on my mind lately. I'm 'officially' pulling the plug on this game. It's been great but it's probably for the best for now.
Hopefully this is just goodbye and we'll share another game at some point in the future.
Reptilian, very sorry to hear about your job. Maybe you can join a new PbP as a player to get your fix without the stress of running a game.
This was my very first PbP, and now years later I'm running my own. I learned a lot and got a lot of ideas on how to run a PbP game from you and I appreciate it.
And I have to say that Darst was an assload of fun to read. One day I'll run Runelords with my tabletop group and you can bet your ass that a goblin character will be in the group one way or another!
I think you still have our email contacts, so if you ever get the itch and want to start this up again just let us know!
Thanks, Sinvel. I really liked Venmirl. He was the ultimate 'straight man', and his attitude probably helped make Darst what he is today.
Thanks, Reptilian. I REALLY enjoyed this game while it lasted. I don't hesitate to say it's my favorite PbP on the forums. You're the most flexible and well-organised GM I've yet had. Darst is exhibit 'A' for that, and all those subplots we messed up for you are exhibit 'B'.
Thanks, Dragonborn. Naomi always talked mean, but I know, deep down, she loved Darst.
Right?
Right?
;P
And thanks, Eric. Izbahn's bond with Darst was always very interesting to play, and it probably had the biggest effect on how I played Darst.
Okay, cliché thank-yous are over. Good game, guys. :D
Anyone still around? My situation has stabilized and I've been getting the PbP itch again (I can't seem to ever totally lose it). I'm wondering if this could be continued or if I should start something new.
Sweet, 3 out of 4 is pretty good, all things considered. Anyone knows a way to get hold of Venmirl/Sinvel Menter?
Anyway, just note that my new job keeps me more busy (and slightly more supervised :P) so updates might come slower then they used to do in my 'best days'
Well I would not mind picking up this game again, but unfortunately i don't have his 3rd level stats/equipment anymore. If you saved his 3rd level info, could you post them here please?
