A campaign of fallen angels, friendly devils, deceit, betrayal, secrets, and the everburning quest to discover the plane-fueling spark of the mortal soul.

Welcome to Bloody Kisses, herein lies any questions, comments, or wherewithal you may have about the game. This is also where any Out Of Character discussion will take place.

I will be running the game, please direct any questions you have about the world, Blood War (OOG), or character build to me. I sincerely hope to build a fantastic game and look forward to getting to know all of you.

bloodykissesgm@gmail.com

How familiar should we be with the Greyhawk setting? I'm only vaguely familiar with the basics... is there a particular region or faction that I should read up on?

The game is going to be set in the world of Greyhawk, but with all of the plane hopping and devilry you needn't be too concerned with your hometown. If you want to follow a particular faction that's fine, but you do not have to. I'm using the world of Greyhawk for the way the planes are set up and the information that has been steeped in the Blood War.

How much do we have to spend on gear?

That's on the first page of the other thread, here.

Use the Heroic NPC wealth for a level higher than your own, but no item can be more than 2000 gp

BTW, I found a few invaluable online resources. I have some old Greyhawk stuff, but nowhere near enough to know what all is going on. I figured I'd share the fruits of my searching.

Greyhawk Deities Expanded Domain List by Sean K. Reynolds

Greyhawk Wiki by Canonfire!

The Oerth Journal revived

I found others, but these are the ones that I keep on going back to. They're not always in perfect agreement -- does Joramy wander around in Bytopia and Elysium, or does she have a home called The Hearth at the boundary between Flame and Magma? -- but at least they cover the high points of their topics in a readable (and relatively complete) manner.

They Greyhawk wiki is decent in some parts but has a lot of contradicting things in it. The best materials are the 3.5 sourcebooks, and the Living Greyhawk Gazeteer if you have access to them, though mainly Manual of the Planes.

Thanks for the tip! Ordered used copies of Manual of the Planes v3.0 and the LGG, both at very reasonable prices. A little too late to help with my current character creation; but I'm sure they'll come in useful someday, somehow.

All right, folks, after much deliberation, slicing and dicing, I have narrowed down my list of starting players. It's a bigger list than I anticipated, but there are many great ideas that I couldn't pass up!

The players/characters who have made the initial cut are:

  • loimprevisto- Aranea Sorcerer
  • Mark Sweetman- Venedaemon Sorcerer/Eldritch Knight
  • DreamAtelier- Imp Ninja
  • Rolluk Earbiter- Half-fiend Degenerate Serpentfolk
  • Astrid Ennead-en-Bandeau- Kyton Monk
  • Tirion Jörðhár- Lyrakien Rogue/Bard
  • Meowzebub- Hellcat

Congratulations guys!

If you have not done so already, please e-mail me at bloodykissesgm@gmail.com with your backstory, if possible.

Once I work out a few things with each character we'll be ready to start the game!

Star Voter 2014

Awesomeness :) - thanks for the selection Bloody Kisses.

Am flying soon, but will start ironing out the rough edges on my guy and put up a profile hopefully tonight.

Male Gnome Sorcerer/9 - (HP: 46/46 - AC19;FF16;T17 - F+5;R+6;W+7 - Init+9 - Per+11)

Sweet - thanks for the selection, now to disrupt the Blood War.

Here's Tia!

I don't use herolab or any other automated character generation tool, but I think everything is where it should be. My main concern is that I might have missed some subtlety of the Pathfinder rules... I invite anyone who is comfortable with the system to check my numbers.

You have your alignment listed as Neutral, but to call an imp familiar to your side you need to be Lawful Evil or Lawful Neutral.

Giant Friendly Talking Spider

Good point, I missed that.

Instead of a familiar, could I take an imp as a cohort and swap Improved Familiar with Leadership? I see her as a very true neutral sort of spider, and while I'm sure Whisper is working on her I don't see her as having changed that radically just yet...

The "real" familiar would be a scarlet spider as detailed here.

Glorious carnage awaits us!

Yay!

Sidenote, I'll be making a profile, but the character name is taken. Ergo, I'll add on an epithet or something.

Giant Friendly Talking Spider

The name "Tia" was taken, so I went with "Тia".

The first letter of my character's name is unicode, "Т" is part of the Cyrillic alphabet instead of the T you type on your keyboard. I think it's awesome that Paizo's forums allow these letters, a lot of other places filter them out.

Male Imp (Outsider, Lawful, Evil, Extra-Planar) Ninja 2

I ended up going with Abdiel The Faithful, because I'm sure it's what he tells all the people he serves as a familiar he is. Unfortunately I missed Tia's post, but I'll keep it in mind for the future. Do you have to use unicode to get the characters, or is there another way?

Windows has a built-in program called "Character Map" that will let you pick the symbol you want and copy/paste it. You can also look up its keyboard equivalent at any of the cheat-sheets online and use the alt+numberpad to enter it. For example, holding alt and typing 1 on the numberpad gives ☺. This would usually be notated as alt+1.

Also keep in mind that tiny creatures only receive half the base armor bonus, rounded down... +1 leaf armor would give you a total of a +2 armor bonus.

I did some more thinking about this concept and I am loving it more and more. I should qualify for a high enough leadership score to have several followers... what if Tia is leading one of Fierna's cults?

Depending on the modifiers you applied, my leadership score could end up anywhere from 11 to 16, granting 6-28 followers. I'm not sure if it would fit into your campaign concept, but the idea is really growing on me!

Male Hellcat

Chess checking in. I need to figure out possible magic items that I can afford and still use. I figure a creature can straight up wear rings, bracers, necklaces, amulets, ion stones, barding armor (with a feat). Anything else come to mind?

Cloaks, glasses, hats, boots and you start to get into playing "dress-up" at an 8-year old tea party.

Chess talks though telepathy so a broadcast to the group will resemble this <<I won't kill you all today. Harrah!>>

As opposed to singling out a specific character.

Unlucky Character:
<<Except You!>>

***Not that I am advocating PvP play....just having a little fun in the ooc thread. Plus, killing everyone sounds like a lot of work...Chess will get to it after a nap.

Giant Friendly Talking Spider

A belt doesn't seem too silly for you, especially if you're already going for the barding. Will armor work with Chess's spiffy invisibility? Hopefully it will be the same as normal invisibility and will extend to your gear, but you might want to be sure...

Yeah I guess a belt could work. The barding was something way down road, but not a likely option, I was more thinking outloud. I have a gnome cavalier with a wolf mount that wears barding.

Forgot about the invisibility issue. Its a supernatural ability, but the fluff is that it is tied to its anatomy. Would gear be invisible? They probably did not consider that, but the Hellcat is intelligent as a human so would want appropriate magic to help. Probably easiest to handwave it than apply additional perception modifiers but I will let BK GM rule on that. Or apply a cost bonus to incorporate nonhuman physiology of a magic item...I wouldn't mind a Hellcat tax on crafting costs for unusual anatomy.

It lists in Savage Species how regular item slots fit quadrupeds, I'll have to return to that list, but basically they would be slightly different. Belts may take up a collar slot, hats or circlets can be worn as diadems, rings can be anklet cuffs or earrings, vests can stay vests or vestments, or cloaks and capes can be harnesses et cetera. With a bit of finangling most magic items can be adjusted.

If you want an imp cohort, you could take Leadership, though I will definitely be putting a cap on the number of followers permitted so I don't have to roll for mobs every encounter. You can also acquire an imp companion through a level in Diabolist (Book of the Damned Vol. I) and you can be Lawful Neutral for that. Or take the Noble Scion feat from Pathfinder Campaign Setting which grants you an imp servitor at 9th level (I'll let the house of Thrune tie slide).

On invisibility, the spell states that carried gear is also invisible, but the hellcat's is an innate invisibility. I'll have to give it a think. Offhand I would rule that Glamered or Shadowed gear would blend in with your natural invisibility, I may rule that any magical gear would also automatically blend in with the exception of any item that casts light. Any items specifically made for you would also automatically blend in.

Huh. I'd never run across this rule before... where is it located, out of curiousity? Not a big change though.

If I go the leadership route then the followers will be in the background as a plot point rather than out adventuring with me. The idea is that Tia would be running a cult of Fierna and her followers would all be cultists at a temple rather than cannon fodder. I read up on Diabolist and Noble Scion and prefer to go with leadership- as long as it won't cause an issue with the campaign.

Dot.

Good luck all.

It's buried in a footnote of table 6-8 in the CRB. In my edition, it's on p. 153. (I'd never noticed it either before last week, when I ran across it while contemplating a silvanshee character.)

Female Lyrakien Half-Fiend (outsider(native), azata, extraplanar, evil) Monk(Martial Artist+)/1 - Cleric(Crusader)/3

Regarding the Armor issue - note, I am Tiny, but am unlikely to ever wear armor so I really do not care, but here is what James Jacobs had to say on the issue a few months ago. It appears that the creative director hates this rule and does not even use it, or even knew about it until someone mentioned it. So, it would be a DM decision.

Spivey is listed as having a Mwk Studded Leather Armor giving a +3 AC bonus.

However, being tiny, shouldnt the armor only give a +1 bonus ?

EDIT: Just noticed on the table it says "divide armor bonus by 2 for tiny or smaller guys!"

Armor provides the same AC bonus regardless of size. weight and cost are reduced for tiny, but I don't see anywhere that it says AC is reduced.

That rule is pretty high on my list of rules that we need to abolish because they're needlessly cluttery and editor traps. And they create illogical situations—why doesn't armor for Huge or larger creatures INCREASE its AC bonus? And having it squirrled away as an asterisk on table 6–8 and not mentioning the rule on the main armor table or in the description for armor/shield bonuses is sloppy.

Anyway, adjust Spivey's AC as you wish in your game... but I'll not be doing so for games I run (even though I suppose I'll have to do so for characters that show up in print... maybe I'll just not give Tiny or smaller creatures armor ever again!).

As it stands for armor, I'm ruling that you'll get your full armor bonus regardless of what size you are. If you're Tiny and wearing Tiny armor, you're going to get the full amount of coverage as a Medium character wearing Medium armor would.

As far as Leadership score. Currently your character level is 3, Cha modifier is 6, which places your score at a 9. With your special ability of web/shapechange (if you shared that ability with your followers), that makes the score 10. Having a familiar drops the score to 8, attracting an imp cohort lowers the modifier to 7 since the cohort is a different alignment. And finally with moving around a lot drops your Leadership score to 6. Which ultimately means you could have your imp cohort, but no followers. I'm not sure if this is necessarily what you are aiming for. If you still want to go with Leadership, you won't accumulate followers for some time.

Giant Friendly Talking Spider

I thought we were using this rule from the PRD, under the Monsters as PCs section:

Quote:
For monsters with racial Hit Dice, the best way to allow monster PCs is to pick a CR and allow all of the players to make characters using monsters of that CR. Treat the monster's CR as its total class levels and allow the characters to multiclass into the core classes. Do not advance such monsters by adding Hit Dice. Monster PCs should only advance through classes.

...that would have put my leadership score at 10, allowing for the seeds of a small cult. I'll see about rewriting Tia as a Diabolist instead of a sorcerer, and tilting her alignment toward Lawful. I kind of liked the bloodline powers but at least this opens up another feat for more fun metamagic.

I know I didn't make it in... but it gives me more time to read through my new Ultimate Magic I guess. If anyone needs Greyhawk info I have the Greyhawk Gazetteer which gives tons of information about the world and the various deities from the various pantheons. Just ask.

I could also strip off my class levels and equipment and play the Imp cohort, if the idea pleases anyone. I am not sure how effective my build was going to be anyway considering all the lost caster levels I was going to have.

Not in use

Soul Eating sorcerer with a floating ball of teeth as companion now has a profile.

The fancy bits in the name are only for show, I'll be referring to him as Zadlu or Zadluzeny - so don't feel like you need to do any keyboard gymnastics on my behalf.

Picture choice will need to wait till I'm back home on the 11th with a decent net connection (as I am I'm at my 82 year old grandmother's stealing some net time after she's finished with facebook games for the night ;)

Profile / equipment will be slowly filled in over time when I can - but basics should be up shortly. I'm thinking part blaster - part buff/debuff for spell slots, but will probably just go with what jumps out at me. Crazy thing is that with daemon enhanced stats he can stand up in combat reasonably well.

PS - Chess totally needs a magic saddle :P

Yeah, but who's big enough that Chess could ride them? :P Or maybe he can carry you guys around by the backs of your necks...or what used to be the backs of your necks.

We used to have a street peddler around here that had a mouse that rode a cat while the cat rode a dog. He'd ask for money if you wanted to photograph them. It was pretty funny to watch, they were very well trained.

Female Lyrakien Half-Fiend (outsider(native), azata, extraplanar, evil) Monk(Martial Artist+)/1 - Cleric(Crusader)/3

Hmmm, I am feeling too big, think I need a Permanent Reduce Person cast on me so that I am diminutive. I would be about 6 inches tall.

Giant Friendly Talking Spider

Wow, the diabolist imp works a little different from the other imps I've seen. I think everything is where it should be... have a look! I seems weird that their alternate shape is limited to one form, but as long as I get a spider I can live with that...

I'm not sure if I should use the same HP rules that you gave for PCs... here are my dice rolls: 7d10 ⇒ (5, 2, 10, 5, 3, 1, 8) = 34 = 48 if I use max 1st hit dice and minimum roll of 5.

For the imp you can keep his HP as rolled, so 34 is fine. The diabolist is meant to have a more powerful imp servitor which is why it's a companion rather than a familiar.

The imp can learn more shapes later with bonus tricks if need be.

FWIW, I still think that Elita Myken deserves another HD. Also probably another associated 10 skill ranks -- actually +7 since it looks like she took 57 instead of 54 -- and another feat next level instead of the one after. No one has said no yet to my interpretation of 3 racial HD + 5 class; but I'm not sure that means anything, since the last week of the year was a busy time.

Actually, the extra 3 points are from Cleric levels as my Favored Class.

Finishing the Build:

I was starting to feel perhaps this was too MUCH. But just looking at the Sepentfolk character, Chess should be in line with that as a frontline heavy. Will have about equal attacks, lower AC but higher HP.

HP -> 10 + 8d10 + 54 ⇒ 10 + (3, 7, 8, 9, 1, 2, 8, 8) + 54 = 110

Averaging gives +12 equaling 122

Skill points:
+1 Perception (+19)
+2 stealth (+19)
+2 acrobatics (+19)
+2 climb (+19)
That maxes out those skills

+9 Know Planes (+9)
+9 Bluff (+9)
+9 Sense Motive (+11)
+2 Escape Artist (+12)

Magic Items:
I charged a 20% tax on making it unique to Chess' physiology, still had some gold to spend, but not sure there is an item left that is affordable and wearable.

Ring of Protection +1 (on a claw) 2,400gp, Bracer of Armor +1 (on legs) 1200gp, Collar of Resistance +1 (on neck as cloak) 1,200gp, and Amulet of Natural Armor +1 (necklace on neck) 2,400gp

Elita Myken wrote:

See, that's why I shouldn't do character math that late at night. Sorry.

Female Lyrakien Half-Fiend (outsider(native), azata, extraplanar, evil) Monk(Martial Artist+)/1 - Cleric(Crusader)/3

@Chess -- did you just use the base Monster's stats? You had some decent rolls, your strength or something should be in the high 20s with the rolls you had.

Male Hellcat

Hey, Elita. Thanks! Good catch. I posted the basic stats as a place holder, but worked the rolls into a sketchup I did over the holidays, and forgot I didn't update it here.

Back to work.

**Edit: I actually incorporated the rolled stats in the skills and attacks and hp but didn't update the actual stat values.

Female Lyrakien Half-Fiend (outsider(native), azata, extraplanar, evil) Monk(Martial Artist+)/1 - Cleric(Crusader)/3

I hope either Chess or Ssrintal are going to get a big weapon(3x or 4x on crits). I have Butterfly's Sting and plan on donating lots of crits to you all with my 6 inch rapier.

It looks like both Chess and Ssrintal will be using natural weapons (x2), although some of those natural attacks could be very nasty. I could also jump in with my 8d4 meele touch attack spell, that would make for a nice critical...

Female Lyrakien Half-Fiend (outsider(native), azata, extraplanar, evil) Monk(Martial Artist+)/1 - Cleric(Crusader)/3

I need to get the rapier keened, then I will have 2+ attacks per round with a 30% crit chance. Figure I should give the crits to someone else since I do not do much damage.

@ BKDM - should I have 3 racial HD rather than 2? I figured that since a lyrakien is a CR2 monster, I should end up with only 2HD of abilities/skills/hp. However, other characters seem to have the full racial HD for the relative CR. Also, looking at the instructions on Monsters as Characters, it is not clear, but does appear to provide that you get the monster's full HD and skills/feats, etc.

Male Hellcat

Yeah, I guess I need that clarified too. I have 9HD at CR 7. I currently have it built as 9 levels of hit points and skills, but can roll that back to 7 if needed, but figured the 9 levels are taken into account for a CR7, since monster HD are not quite equivalent to Character levels. Still getting used to templates and scaling monsters.

Chess can't use any weapon but bite and claw, so no big crit machine here. Ssrintal could use a weapon if he chose to.

Female Lyrakien Half-Fiend (outsider(native), azata, extraplanar, evil) Monk(Martial Artist+)/1 - Cleric(Crusader)/3

Yup - earthbreaker, pickaxe, scythe - all have nice crit multiples, and with his 30 str(+10) * 1.5 with 2 hands, he could be doing 60-90 damage whenever I roll 18 or better, could be nice.

Use your full racial Hit Dice. Sorry I haven't clarified earlier. HD doesn't always mean CR and I know stacking levels on it is a bit confusing (especially since I allowed mixed levels)

Ssrintal scares me. I remember reviewing the chosen characters and looking at that Strength score at least three times thinking I'd made a grave error. But I am very pleased with the character and look forward to seeing what he tears through when pointed at it.

Trying to get the last few things together (also finding out if I'm moving next week or not) so I apologize for the delay in getting the game started.
