Erd |
Erd tries to go to the library and find information about the Inmaskari city.
Knowledge (arcana) untrained: 1d20 - 2 ⇒ (4) - 2 = 2
The next morning . . . the group teleports back to the desert and enters the ruined city, searching for the ghost-king who binds the spirits there. ?
Garren Emeraldeyes |
I'll abide by what the dice gods decided for Rynjin.
Garren also makes an attempt to learn more what he can of the Inmaskari city.
Kn.History: 1d20 + 22 ⇒ (8) + 22 = 30
Skill Mastery: 1d20 + 22 ⇒ (3) + 22 = 25
Library Roll with whatever bonus the library adds to it: 1d20 + 22 ⇒ (19) + 22 = 41
Sun Xiao |
Ooh, good idea.
Sun looks into the history of the city as well.
Kn. History: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (12) + 14 = 26
Erd |
Erd's research technique is to pull the first book off the shelf, read it all the way through, and put it back. Then she pulls the next book off the shelf, reads THAT all the way through, and puts it back on the shelf. And so forth. She spends six hours in the natural history section reading about decorative ferns.
Erd |
There was something about runes that you spoke of, yeah?
Erd |
(c) seein what more you can learn about the verses in the Imaskari city
Sorry, I meant verses, not runes.
Erd |
What was the name of the king? Was he primarily a mage or a warrior? And did he have notable lieutenants?

The Ruler ghost of the city was not a king, the city you were was not the capital of the Empire. Name Gacagilgati.
As every person of power in Imaskari he was an "artificer", a name for a arcane caster (thinking of going arcanist here). And no notable lieutenant, but apparently very fond on Golems.
Erd |
"My blade thirsts for golemblood!" Erd decides upon discovering this.
We done here?
Garren Emeraldeyes |
1 person marked this as a favorite. |
"Now I've been acquainted with a wide range of individuals and I know three wizards who'd disagree Sun. Granted, only because people make statements like that. Since most of them just have an attitude to prove people wrong." Garren states.
Auron Luckstride |
"I've once seen a Golem who was actually made of blood. Well... It looked more like a blood elemental, but technically, it was a Golem. The necromancer who created it was awfully proud of it. Last I heard, he was on a quest to kill some ancient demon on another plane. Don't know what happened to him after that, though..."
Erd |
"Oh. Well Erd will cut them through anyways!"
Erd |

?
Erd |
I mean I was wrong about him being a ghost king but the general idea is what we're doing.
Auron Luckstride |
Sorry. Busy days. I'll try to post something later if there is something for Auron to do.
DM. |
You teleport back, and etc. This time you notice that the city is populated by thousands of ghost. They mostly seem sad and unintested in you, however you note that the ones that draw away from the center of the city tend to show and erractic behaviour, pretty much like the old man of the first time. SOme of them look at you with hope, some seem angry with you, most are uninterested.
You now follow Sylwaris notes to the ruler´s room.
The room is humid, hot, reeks of mold and is copletely dark (if you bring some source of light, you find it to be dimished as if affected by a darkness spell, even magical light).
In the end of the room there is a throne in the form of a dragon, and sitting in the throne there is the ghost of and old and decayed man staring at you. The old man had a fringe of hair around his balding, mottled scalp. He had a wizened face and deep dark circles around his eyes. Around him there are a couple of statues of armed warriors.
Livings... - He say without moving or doing anything else. The head of the dragon/throne turn around to look at you.
Erd |
Erd's wayfinder shines brightly enough for her to see, though Bili still struggles with the shadows. "It is wrong to hold the people here! They did not agree to this!" she yells, kicking her steed towards the statues.
Can I overrun one without provoking from the others? Are they Gargantuan or smaller? And is the distance to the throne less than or equal to 120 feet?
Sun Xiao |
"In my experience ghosts disperse like anything else, it just takes a bit more effort. We promised someone we'd get rid of you, and I keep my promises. Simple as that."
Auron Luckstride |
"Why are you even here? I've had contact with more than a few ghosts in the past... None of them seemed to enjoy being bound to the material plane."
Erd |
The throne's tempting but . . . if possible I'd like to avoid ghost AOOs.
"Well this is what I'm going to do!" Erd whirls her glittering blade as she gets close, letting Bili run straight over the millennia-old art piece.
Erd's ride-by charge attack (charge, banner, elevation, colossus hunter): 1d20 + 23 + 2 + 1 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (18) + 23 + 2 + 1 + 1 + 1 = 46 Adamantine damage (sandstorm, Spirited Charge, mounted mastery, colossus hunter): 6d6 + 27 + 33 + 3 ⇒ (5, 2, 3, 3, 5, 2) + 27 + 33 + 3 = 83
Bili's overrun attempt (charge, banner, Improved Overrun, Greater Overrun): 1d20 + 19 + 2 + 1 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 19 + 2 + 1 + 2 + 2 = 3220% miss chance, low is bad for PCs: 1d100 ⇒ 59
Bili's trample attack (banner, Power Attack): 1d20 + 13 + 1 - 3 ⇒ (13) + 13 + 1 - 3 = 2420% miss chance, low is bad for PCs: 1d100 ⇒ 29Hoof damage (Power Attack): 1d8 + 4 + 3 ⇒ (8) + 4 + 3 = 15 Not accounting for prone.
Bili's bite AOO (banner, Power Attack): 1d20 + 15 + 1 - 3 ⇒ (11) + 15 + 1 - 3 = 2420% miss chance, low is bad for PCs: 1d100 ⇒ 21Bite damage (Power Attack): 1d6 + 9 + 9 ⇒ (3) + 9 + 9 = 21 Not accounting for prone. 0/1
Erd's Round 1: Ride-By Attack-style charge (full-round action).
Bili's Round 1: Charging overrun (full-round action).

That would be outstanding, but no. Do not waste your time living one. There was a time I would have just crhushed punny ants like you but...
(Here Erd charges creating massive cracks in the statue but without destroying it (No overrun). That statue counter attack Erd
Slam: 1d20 + 22 ⇒ (19) + 22 = 412d10 + 9 ⇒ (9, 1) + 9 = 19
Slam: 1d20 + 22 ⇒ (7) + 22 = 292d10 + 9 ⇒ (6, 3) + 9 = 18.
That golem also radiates a slowe effect DC 17 for Erd and Bili
THe dragon trhone and hte other statue do nothing )
The ghost see the combat without much interest and resumes what he was saying
...just leave, you who can
Sun Xiao |
TBH I was hoping we could talk to this guy a bit more before initiating combat.
"You seem remarkably calm. Why is it you've stuck around all these years?"
Aside: "Erd, you got that?"
Sun Xiao |
"Condemned by who? And why? Honestly breaking the curse, if possible, would be a preferable alternative to yet another brawl."
Sun Xiao |
"Myrkul and Jergal have vacated their positions. Perhaps the curse weakened with their departure, or Kelemvor would be more predisposed to help. He doesn't like undead from what I hear, he'd probably destroy your ghost and free your soul on principle."
I think Kelemvor is the current death god anyway, according to the FR wiki.
Auron Luckstride |
"That's the question worth a million golden coins..." says Auron "Why have you been imprisoned in the first place?"
Sun Xiao |
"Multiple possibilities. He could simply not know. He's not omniscient. He has other responsibilities as well, I doubt he spends much of his time actively opposing undead, there are simply too many. But a place like this? With thousands of souls trapped for eternity? Perhaps getting word of it to one of his priests, and to him, could prompt action. Or, some other reason."
"If you continue to allow us peaceful passage through the city, we can explore options. If Kelemvor cannot be convinced to intervene, perhaps we can find another way."
"If you're cursed by a god into this form, it may be our only option to fulfill that promise regardless. I have a sneaking suspicion that if we destroyed your form you would come back in a few days regardless."
"Why were you cursed in the first place? That may give us a valuable clue."
Erd |
62/138
I'd already described her as charging and just needed information from Nicos to resolve the action.
Erd's ?Will? save: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (19) + 12 = 31 +2 if it's arcane or divine magic
Bili's Will save: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (9) + 6 = 15
"Get what?" Erd kicks Bili back away from the annoying statue, examining her blade carefully.
Any golem blood? ;)
Auron Luckstride |
"Save your strength, Erd... Even if you destroy him, he'll just reform in a few days. The only way to get rid of a ghost is finding out what is keeping them here and putting an end to it." says Auron, before he changes his voice tone to a more intimidating one. "Of course... We can always destroy any statue that insists on attacking one of us. And make the ghost's eternal existence even more miserable..."
The follower of Oghma then stands next to his friend and releases a wave of positive energy.
Channel Energy: 7d6 ⇒ (6, 6, 5, 5, 5, 5, 3) = 35
Wow... Those are some good rolls!
Auron Luckstride |
"Do you know if there an artifact or creature keeping you here? Something we can deal with?"
DM. |
I'm bounded here by direct divine decree, nothing sort of divine intervention will free me
================
To recapitulate
Quests:
- Avenge Tandall death (so far you know, this means killing Amman)
- Find the verses of creation (to master its powers or to stop the wrong people for doing it)
- Find out what happened Tandalls soul.
- Free the ghost of Ahurhanipal (probably by convincing a god to do it :D).
==============================
In case you think you are wasting your time with the ghost, remember that he probably have first hand information about the verses and about the portal Amman crossed
