Male gnome Sorcerer 5 (maestro bloodline) HP: 32/38 AC: 13/13/11 F+3 R+3 W+4

Sorry about the delay - had to go out of town unexpectedly.

Gelik doesn't know what's so special about the gems, his mind tends to wander when Ralf talks about things. He likes the look of them, however, and suspects they're plenty valuable.

No! We don't break the gems! We find someone to give us piles of gold for the gems, then we spend the gold on attractive accessories. That's how this works! Even I know that, and I'm scared spitless.

He stares helplessly for a few moments at the pit, like it's an unassailable gulf, filled with every unspeakable horror, then adds.

That's if we ever get out of this hell-hole. I'm pretty sure I just heard the door slam closed, and we have no idea how to get out of here. And that thing with all the mouths is still wandering around. You guys should go down there and kill it, while it's still wounded.

male human oracle 5 (lore mystery, stargazer archetype, words of power)

Can we find some materials that we can use to bridge the pit? Old lumber, furniture, etc.?

Male Human (mostly) Ex-cleric and Grumpy Cat

There are just fragments left of the furniture. Your best bet is either to jump the pit (DC 15 with a running start), reset and disable the trap or find another way.

male half-elf ranger (guide) 2 / rogue 3

Torch has a reasonably good chance of being able to jump the pit, and a reasonably good chance of being able to disable it (although I don't know how good, or what might happen if he fails the disable check - for that matter, I don't know how exactly we could reset the thing.

male human oracle 5 (lore mystery, stargazer archetype, words of power)

I think trying to put the lid back on is the best bet. Or is there an obvious passage that we haven't explored yet?

Male gnome Sorcerer 5 (maestro bloodline) HP: 32/38 AC: 13/13/11 F+3 R+3 W+4

My vote: Torch tries to jam the trap so we can walk across. If that doesn't work, we have to get across the same way we did last time. If taking 10 for 10 isn't good enough, here's a climb roll, should it come to that. 1d20 ⇒ 13

Female Human Fighter (Mobile) 5 HP:43/54 AC19/T13/FF16 (AC23vsAoO) Condition:

"Torch, can you reset these traps and jam them up, to make it safe for us?" asks Aerys hoping.

Male Human (mostly) Ex-cleric and Grumpy Cat

Torch manages to clear the pit in a running jump and fasten a rope to help you all cross. It takes some time and it's not pretty, but you all get across safe.

The corridor ends in a T-intersection. There is a pair of double doors twenty feet to the left and a set of stairs down ten feet to your right.

male half-elf ranger (guide) 2 / rogue 3

Torch takes a good long look at the floors leading down both passages.

Perception, looking for traps: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (4) + 10 = 14.

Male Human (mostly) Ex-cleric and Grumpy Cat

Both passages look safe enough.

male half-elf ranger (guide) 2 / rogue 3

"Those stairs probably lead back down to the first floor passage we didn't take yesterday," Torch nods, "so I'd suggest the left hallway."

Female Human Fighter (Mobile) 5 HP:43/54 AC19/T13/FF16 (AC23vsAoO) Condition:

"Ok then, lead on Torch, the rest of you ready?" says Aerys ready for action.

Male Human (mostly) Ex-cleric and Grumpy Cat

With Torch taking point, you carefully approach the doors.

But not carefully enough. Time for another reflex save. The good news is that this pit is slightly smaller, only 10 feet across.

Male gnome Sorcerer 5 (maestro bloodline) HP: 32/38 AC: 13/13/11 F+3 R+3 W+4

Gelik implicitly trusts Torch...

to fall into traps.

reflex 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (19) + 3 = 22

Looks like Gelik may have avoided falling in. He'll lower his spear and help whoever fell in to climb out.

male human oracle 5 (lore mystery, stargazer archetype, words of power)

I assume that Torch is the only who needs to save, yes?

male half-elf ranger (guide) 2 / rogue 3

Ref save 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (10) + 7 = 17.

...and down I go again.

Male Human (mostly) Ex-cleric and Grumpy Cat

Actually Torch manages to catch his footing in time. The pit is just as deep as the other ones, and also riddled with little passages, but it's easier to cross, so I won't be bothering you with that.

You get 80 xp each, though.

How about those doors?

Female Human Fighter (Mobile) 5 HP:43/54 AC19/T13/FF16 (AC23vsAoO) Condition:

Aerys holds a torch up to the door, "See anything interesting on this door, Torch?" she asks.

Male gnome Sorcerer 5 (maestro bloodline) HP: 32/38 AC: 13/13/11 F+3 R+3 W+4

Gelik stands around in the back of the group, fidgeting from foot to foot.

male half-elf ranger (guide) 2 / rogue 3

Torch will take 20 to search the doors for traps. That should give him a result of 29, and take 2 minutes.

Male Human (mostly) Ex-cleric and Grumpy Cat

After a meticulous search Torch declares the doors safe and you enter the room, which is octagonal and about 25 feet across, with a pair of double doors at the other end.

An oval pool of what looks like softly rippling blood sits at the center of this octagonal room, filling the air with a metallic tang. Four round pillars support a ceiling decorated with crisscrossed supports and grooves, while ten two-foot-wide circular holes decorate the walls at chest level.

male human oracle 5 (lore mystery, stargazer archetype, words of power)

"Now how the heck would a pool of blood stay fresh after all this time?" Ralf puzzles. He tries to detect any magical auras in the room.

Male Human (mostly) Ex-cleric and Grumpy Cat

The pool gives off an aura of moderate necromantic magic. Nothing else (except what you are carrying) is magical.

male human oracle 5 (lore mystery, stargazer archetype, words of power)

More blood magic, I don`t like the looks of this, Ralf murmurs.

Female Human Fighter (Mobile) 5 HP:43/54 AC19/T13/FF16 (AC23vsAoO) Condition:

"You're not the only one Ralf," replies Aerys, "I don't like this, not one bit." She readies her sword and shield, to protect the party, except Torch whom she lets do his thing.

Male Human (mostly) Ex-cleric and Grumpy Cat

Going on vacation. Game will resume New Year's Day.

male half-elf ranger (guide) 2 / rogue 3

"Some kind of preservative?" Torch hazards, looking disgusted. He shakes his head. "Let's move on." Scimitar in hand, he gives the pool a wide berth as he heads across to the double doors on the far wall and begins examining them for traps as well. Taking 20 again.

Male Human (mostly) Ex-cleric and Grumpy Cat

I'm back. :)

Scanning the room Torch notices some kind of barely noticeable button on one of the pillars.

What do you want to do?

male half-elf ranger (guide) 2 / rogue 3

Torch raises a warning hand. "Wait." Is there anything that indicates what the button might do?

Male Human (mostly) Ex-cleric and Grumpy Cat

They may be part of some kind of by-pass systemThe button is placed at chest level for a human, and it looks like that there is one on the other pillar too. You can't determine whether there are buttons on the far pillars without entering the room.

male half-elf ranger (guide) 2 / rogue 3

"Looks like there might be a trap here," Torch continues. Looking around, he adds, mostly to himself, "Ralf said he only saw magic on the pool, so it's probably a physical trigger..." He kneels down, studying the floor, then the nearby walls, searching for pressure plates, tripwires or other trap measures that might catch him and the other members of the group as they move forward. Still being super-paranoid, taking 20 on the search.

Male Human (mostly) Ex-cleric and Grumpy Cat

As you move carefully through the room, sheets of red-streaked bronze come crashing down, sealing the exits.

male half-elf ranger (guide) 2 / rogue 3

"Damnation!" Torch shouts, and dives for the nearest button.

Female Human Fighter (Mobile) 5 HP:43/54 AC19/T13/FF16 (AC23vsAoO) Condition:

Unsure if we're trapped outside or are inside with Torch?

male human oracle 5 (lore mystery, stargazer archetype, words of power)

Ralf whirls his head from side to side. "What the dickens!? Somebody get us out of here!"

Male Human (mostly) Ex-cleric and Grumpy Cat

Yeah, you are trapped inside.

Now the nightmare starts. A pendulum tipped with a razorsharpaxe blade swings down from one of the grooves and ridges in the ceiling, scything across the entire room. It moves in what feels like random twists, chasing you all over the place. Aerys takes a hit for 6 points of damage, barely avoiding having her throat slashed.

After three rounds of mayhem the blade retracts and the walls slide up and don't come down again. You may proceed.

You also get 240 xp for surviving the trap.

male human oracle 5 (lore mystery, stargazer archetype, words of power)

Ralf tries to stop Aerys's bleeding with a magic charm.

1d6 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6

Female Human Fighter (Mobile) 5 HP:43/54 AC19/T13/FF16 (AC23vsAoO) Condition:

"Thanks Ralf, remind me not to come in here again. Torch can you stop that blade for good, I don't want to come in here and find my head separated from my body." she seems quite shocked at the trap. "Come on let's move outta here."

Male Human (mostly) Ex-cleric and Grumpy Cat

Across the room there is another pair of doors, and those lead to a short passage that end in another double doors. As far as Torch can tell, they don't appear to be trapped.

male half-elf ranger (guide) 2 / rogue 3

"I could try," Torch says slowly, "but I'd risk setting it off again. I'd rather stick with the buttons, I think."

Scimitar in hand, he pushes open the next set of doors.

Male Human (mostly) Ex-cleric and Grumpy Cat

As Torch pushes the doors open you enter a large and ominous chamber. Judging from this cathedral-like chamber’s decor, this area must have once been a significant temple dedicated to some vile god. To the west, a few steps lead up to a shrine presided over by a ten-foot-high statue of a beautiful, fanged woman, save that instead of arms she possesses two upraised bat-like wings and instead of feet her legs end in talons. She looms over a glistening altar of blood-red stone that seems to weep blood into a trough below; this trough of blood runs the length of the room before disappearing to the east through a set of bronze bars in front of a wide opening in the wall that drops away into darkness. Stone pillars support the roof 25 feet above, and two dry fountains sit opposite each other against the walls in the middle of the room. Three large alcoves, one to the south and two to the north, contain complex wall carvings. The entire chamber feels unnaturally cold, and now and then strange disembodied whispers slither through the air.

That's the least of your problems, though, for before the altar stands a serpent-headed humanoid creature wearing robes, flanked by four human skeletons.

Roll for initiative. Map coming up.

Female Human Fighter (Mobile) 5 HP:43/54 AC19/T13/FF16 (AC23vsAoO) Condition:

Initiative 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 2 = 9

male half-elf ranger (guide) 2 / rogue 3

"Finally!" Torch snarls, with no trace of his usual good humor.

Initiative: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (17) + 6 = 23

male human oracle 5 (lore mystery, stargazer archetype, words of power)

1d20 - 6 ⇒ (7) - 6 = 1

Sorry about the long delay in posting. I was away on my Christmas vacation and unexpectedly had no internet access. On my return, I discovered that my mother was in the hospital. I may post less often over the next few weeks, depending on how serious the situation turns out to be.

Gelik had been walking around with glazed eyes and a pale face, wrinkling his nose at all the blood. He comments mildly as he enters the room with the altar, Hey look, a bat-lady, then suddenly blurts, Snake-demon! and cringes. And of course more skeletons. He sighs in exasperation, while cringing.

Down with flu. Posting will resume in a day or two.

Male Human (mostly) Ex-cleric and Grumpy Cat

Thanks for your patience. Map is up.

Torch and Gelik go first, then the serpentfolk.

male half-elf ranger (guide) 2 / rogue 3

Torch circles right moving to M28 and lashes out with his cestus. Cestus attack: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (6) + 5 = 11, damage 1d4 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6 bashing. "Hrakar!" Torch shouts. "We need these things out of the way!"

Male gnome Sorcerer 5 (maestro bloodline) HP: 32/38 AC: 13/13/11 F+3 R+3 W+4

Gelik takes a step back and to the right (Q29). He then casts a quick spell and vanishes.

The snake-lady hisses: "You pathetic mammals. You should have died on the Jenivere, instead of crossing me once again. All you've achieved is to witness my triumph as I am on the verge of making a discovery that has eluded your filthy brood of a race from when the sky fell. You will be obliterated shortly."

She fixes her hypnotic gaze on Torch, trying to bend him to her will. Dominate Person, DC 18.

At the same time, the skeletons attack, but Torch and Aerys have no trouble fending off their blows.

Hrakar spits out an oath and calls on the wrath of Torag to wreck the skeletons. All of them are weakened but they still stand.

You are up, all of you.
