Hrakar Orcbane |
"Bah! So we need mold now? Or it's the giant mushrooms we are after? Tell me one good thing that may come out of us entering a decrepit, moldy wreckage of a ship, please. What kind of resources may be scavenged from that thing? Give me one good reason and I'll follow, despite that big hoaf of a man going suddenly slack jawed and staying that way since the previous fight with the mushrom-things"
Sam "Torch" McQuarry |
"Like I said," Torch replies, "it's a resource. Those vegepygmies - they had weapons that looked like they'd been scavenged from something like this ship. We might be able to do the same, and perhaps with more wisdom than some walking mushrooms might display. I bet there's things in there we can use they've never realized had any value..."
Torch is, of course, lying. He just wants to explore the spooky ship. He is, after all, into that sort of thing.
Aerys D Mavato |
"Ha, no Ralf! though it was a little bit boring and you all seemed to be having so much more fun." as Aerys throws back her head with a laugh, her red hair caught in the breeze. "So we bought you some savory pasties made from the meat of the islands wild antelope we caught. " She unwraps a parcel she holds under her arm, exposing the crusty brown parties beneath, before she continues "Besides, who better than I to see if any of these old wrecks you find could be seaworthy, or parts salvageable to enable us to get off this island." With her other hand she removes her hat, and is about to bow, when she realizes her gifts might fall and be soiled, so stops and replaces her hat.
Ralf Pennywhistle |
Ralf nods contentedly as Aerys mumbles something incoherent. He brightens up as he sees the food. "Oh! Well that looks tasty. Although we should probably wait until we're further away from this big blob of mold before we have a picnic."
He turns to "Torch" and gestures at the mold-ship. "So, did you say you were going to lead the way...?"
Maestro Gelikugel Aberwhinge |
Gelik walks up slowly and gingerly, trying not to soil his boots. "Ew." He wrinkles his nose as he looks around at the fungus. "I certainly wouldn't have followed you out if I'd known you were coming (he flaps his hand back and forth dismissively)...here."
"But, I suppose one makes due." With that said, Gelik pulls a comically oversized handkerchief from his left sleeve cuff, and twiddles his fingers over it, mumbling a few words of power to infuse it with the pleasing smell of lavender (Prestidigitation). He sniffs the hanky a few times, then ties it around his nose and mouth so that he looks like a wee dandy bandit. "Mudge bedder," he proclaims, his voice blunted by the cloth.
He then squirms his way into the center of the group, crossbow loaded and held at the ready to shoot from the hip. He's putting on a brave face, but his hands are clearly shaking. "Lead on."
Aerys D Mavato |
With an irritable sigh, Aerys says loudly, "Huh! New people! We've had the 'pleasure' and I mean that word most sincerely, of your company whenever you've deigned to return from your adventures. Leaving us to make your camp safe and secure. Men!" she turns from Hrakar and marches towards Torch. Right lead the way and let's get on with it.
Sam "Torch" McQuarry |
Torch laughs. "See, Orcbane?" he asks, the slightest touch of mockery as he uses the surname in echo of Hrakar. "They think it sounds like fun." He grins at Aerys, his scars twisting the expression into a ghastly grimace, then brandishes his scimitar. "Shall we then?" Without waiting for an answer, Torch turns and begins making his way toward the moss-covered ship.
Hrakar Orcbane |
"Torag's Beard! This is rapidly becoming an exercise in stupidity! Very well, if one wants to die the moldy ruins of a moldy ship are as good a place as any other... I guess! Just don't start making excuses when something bad happens!"
So grumbling the dwarf follows the other castaways into the ruined remains of the ship
I can cast light if needed
Maestro Gelikugel Aberwhinge |
Gelik moves forward carefully with the rest of the group, then sees the mold-encrusted ship for the first time. He pulls down his hanky-mask to speak. "Presuming we board this...vessel, and I'm not yet prepared to concede that we should, I have one question." The gnome observes the ship for a moment. "How are we to access the deck? Are those even real ropes, or are they composed entirely of fungus?" Gelik makes a little gagging noise in the back of his throat just thinking about the possibilities.
Gelik will cast Mage Armor on himself.
Maestro Gelikugel Aberwhinge |
Gelik nods at Hrakar's assertion. "I'll cover you! He adds encouragingly, pointing his little crossbow up in the general direction of the ship's deck.
Being the most fragile of all the PCs, Gelik will climb up the fungus ropes either third or fourth. He keeps watch while the first few climbers start, then slings his crossbow and follows. He takes 10 on the climb, for a total of 10.
Aerys D Mavato |
Aerys, tugs at the fungus, and with ready steps leads the way, using her longsword to help her balance on the way up. "C'mon you land lubbers, it may be covered in fungus, but its still just a ship and probably in better condition than the wrecks you've visited."
I am hoping her Profession(Sailor) will give her extra bonus to get her across such a rope, as she should be used to rigging and climbing ropes on a ship. So taking a 10, gives her a healthy 13.
Aerys D Mavato |
Round 1
Aerys, unable to get her shield in place, moves towards the oncoming creature, taking her sword in both hands and slashing the creature aiming to cut it in twain. "Feel my blade, unseemly pirate."
Attack Longsword two handed with power attack 1d20 + 3 - 1 ⇒ (20) + 3 - 1 = 22
Longsword damage 1d8 + 4 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 4 + 3 = 12
Crit confirm 1d20 + 3 - 1 ⇒ (16) + 3 - 1 = 18
Crit Longsword damage 1d8 + 4 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 4 + 3 = 11
Maestro Gelikugel Aberwhinge |
I may have limited computer access today, so I'll post slightly out of turn. Please place it in the action where it needs to be.
"Ah! Mold-men!" Gelik shreiks, stepping back away but immediately bumping into the gunwhale of the ship. He fires his crossbow at the nearest open target, (O7) trying to keep his hands from shaking.
Attack: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (16) + 3 = 19
Damage: 1d6 ⇒ 4
Aerys D Mavato |
Round 2
Pouting with the success of her previous attack, carefully steps forward to take on the next vegetable enemy. Wit a loud swish through the air, she tries to protect Ralf from the creature in front of him.
5ft step to K,7
Attack Longsword two handed with power attack L,7 1d20 + 3 - 1 ⇒ (13) + 3 - 1 = 15
Longsword damage 1d8 + 4 + 3 ⇒ (7) + 4 + 3 = 14
Black Tom |
A correction: Gelik's bolt sticks in the pygmy without even slowing it down.
Aerys cuts down another pygmy. The fungal menaces drop their spears and claw at you. Aerys is hit for 6 points by a burly vegepygmy in the back row. You easily fend off the others. Ralf aims another feeble swipe.
The rest of you are up.
Sam "Torch" McQuarry |
"Less point, more blade!" Torch shouts to Gelik, as he strikes out with his scimitar again. Another shot at M7. Attack 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (20) + 4 = 24, damage 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6. Crit confirm 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (17) + 4 = 21, damage 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9. Assuming that drops M7, Torch moves into that space, turning his attention to the "burly one" (that's the one in bold on the map, yes?) instead.
Maestro Gelikugel Aberwhinge |
Gelik panics a little. "They're unstoppable!" He slings his crossbow over his shoulder (move action) then desperately casts a spell (color spray - DC 15 - standard action - at the lone vegepygmy to the upper right). As soon as the cone of clashing colors leaps from his hands, he scoots behind Torch. (5' step to L9)
Black Tom |
Torch cuts down another vegepygmy and moves to engage their boss, while Hrakar steps up to heal Aerys, who delays. Gelik fires of a spell, but the alien mind of the fungus man is unaffected by his magic.
The pygmies close in to flank Torch, but even so he manages to twist and doge their flailing claws.
You are up, all of you.
Ralf Pennywhistle |
"By gum! These little beggars are pretty tough. Can't say an old man like me is of much help, I s'pose."
Ralf tries to distract the vegepygmies by poking and taunting them.
Try to get into flanking position + aid another: 1d20 ⇒ 19
Sam "Torch" McQuarry |
Here's hoping there's nothing worse onboard I'm gonna wish I saved this for... activating ranger's focus on the boss.
Torch ignores Hrakar's gibe, all his attention on the larger foe as he swings his blade. Scimitar attack: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (19) + 6 = 25, damage 1d6 + 6 ⇒ (1) + 6 = 7. Crit confirm 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (2) + 6 = 8, damage 1d6 + 6 ⇒ (3) + 6 = 9. 5 ft step to M6, in case Aerys wants a flank.
Aerys D Mavato |
With just a momentary nod to Hrakar, Aerys moves into close quarters with the burly green plant man, aiming to strike another decisive blow and bring the plant creature to its death. as she does she smiles with satisfactiona nd seeing Ralf, says "Be careful, don't get in the way, this seems a pretty dangerous fight Ralf. Torch and I will protect you." as she smiles happy a sthe salt sea air caresses her skin, a fighting captain, its what she always wanted.
She attempts to get into a flanking position, if not this round, then for next time, using 5ft steps.
Attack Longsword two handed with power attack 1d20 + 3 - 1 ⇒ (17) + 3 - 1 = 19
Longsword damage 1d8 + 4 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 4 + 3 = 9
