Hrakar Orcbane |
"Crabs don't usually talk, this is obviously just a trick of some sorts... and if there's someone here, mad or not, we have better try to get some information out of him if we don't fancy spending what's left of our existances on this slab of rock..." Saying that Hrakar moves toward the crab
Hrakar Orcbane |
"For the love of Torag! What now?!?"axales the dwarf in an exasperated tone
"There's something black, clawed and probably ugly hiding in there... what shall we do? I'm loath to admit it but if he feels the need to resort to these tricks he may be the first creature we meet on this island with the intelligence and the disposition to help us... with a little nudging, maybe..."

Surkoff Hurntol |
Surkoff calls out "Good sir, we are meaning no harm upon you and will not act in violence unless it is first brought down upon us. We merely with to parlay with you, to find out if you can help us and in turn that we can help you. What say you?"
Diplomacy: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (3) + 6 = 9
Black Tom |
Hrakar's light illuminates the interior of the crab, which is cramped and smells of fish, but definitely looks inhabited. A string of smoked shellfish hangs from the ceiling and there is a bundle of blankets to one side.
But as he steps inside he is promptly cut down by a jagged blade (for 13 points of damage). You see a dark-skinned crow-headed figure dressed in rags standing over the fallen Hrakar.
Time to roll for initiative. Map coming up.
Surkoff Hurntol |
Inititative: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (18) + 2 = 20
Surkoff hears the sound of blade striking flesh, a slight cry out from the dwarf and then a body hitting the ground. He strides forward to the rear of the crab shell and takes a mighty swing at the thing, aiming just below the hard shell, trying to create another entrance in towards the dwarf and the mysterious attacker.
Greatsword Power Attack: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (14) + 6 = 20, Damage: 2d6 + 9 ⇒ (4, 5) + 9 = 18

Surkoff brings down his sword and bashes a large hole in the crab's shell. The startled tengu shrieks and runs out, brandishing a jagged sawtooth sabre. As he runs into Torch, he swipes at him for 5 points of damage.
I'll assume that Torch has taken a move action to approach, so he's not flat-footed. He still has a standard action left.
Then Ralf dodders forth and works his healing magic on Hrakar, who comes back to life.
Torch, Surkoff and Hrakar are up, then the tengu.
I put the battle map in Campaign Info.
Surkoff Hurntol |
"Hrakar!!! Curse you beast, you will answer for that."
Seeing the bird-like creature run out of the front of the shell over the bleeding body of Hrakar, Surkoff runs around the side of the crab sword in hand.
(Double move action to P30, ready to charge into flank next round with Torch)
Sam "Torch" McQuarry |
Ouch. Sorry, didn't realize I was actually up or I would have posted. Though looking at things, I don't think I had a standard action I would have wanted to take...
Torch's failed parry angers him, and he attempts to launch a counterattack. Scimitar attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (19) + 4 = 23, damage 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7. Crit confirm: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8, damage 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5.
Hrakar Orcbane |
What the... HOUCH!
As hrakar falls down and he sees the black featered creature move on and battle his friends he bitterly thinks on how crabs may not talk but Crows clearly do... then Ralf's healing surge brings him back to life... a very angry dwarf exists from the crab's shell swearing bloody vengance...
Channel energy (so that the burst doesn't encompass the tengu but as many of his companions as possible):1d6 ⇒ 1
Sam "Torch" McQuarry |
Torch moves with the birdman, fury showing on his scarred face. "Oh no you don't," he growls. "You try to murder my friends, you're going to suffer the consequences." 5 ft step to T32 and ready an attack for when Surkoff gets into flank. Flanking scimitar attack: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (12) + 6 = 18, damage 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6.
Surkoff Hurntol |
Torch: I think you mean that you 5ft to U31 since T32 is 10ft away.
Surkoff raises his blade as he charges in towards the birdman, bringing the sword down in a powerful overhand chop.
Greatsword Power Attack (Charge+Flank): 1d20 + 6 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 6 + 2 + 2 = 17, Damage: 2d6 + 9 ⇒ (5, 1) + 9 = 15
Black Tom |
Between you, Torch and Surkoff cut the bird-man down and he bleeds profusely.
You get 150 xp each for the battle.
He's dressed in rags and his equipment is tattered and broken, with the exception of his sawtooth saber, which is masterwork and in good condition. In his hut there is some sort of contraption that enabled him to manipulate the crab's claw, and some blankets. You can also scavenge a few day¨s worth of rations in the form of poorly smoked sculpins and raw sea urchins if you are so inclined.
Ralf Pennywhistle |
Seeing Hrakar's angry face, Ralf holds up his feeble hands, trying to placate the priest. "Now hold on just a minute...maybe we can talk to this bird feller. You want to get off this island, don't ya? Maybe he can tell us a thing or two now that he's our prisoner."
Black Tom |
OK, I'm going to take that as a yes.
The crab is a little cramped but at least you get a night's sleep without getting attacked. Ralf coughs a bit in the morning but he seems to be fine, and you continue on your merry way.
Your unwilling host wakes up a few hours later, but still in a very bad shape and in no condition to put up a fight. You can interrogate him if you like.
Hrakar Orcbane |
"Well, crowface, tell us what you know about this island NOW and we might let you live, otherwise, I reckon I owe you a good stab and I'm hitching to pay my debt..."
Hrakar, noticing the Tengu to be awake is ready to jump on him for some questions... asked the dwarven way!
Intimidation check:1d20 - 1 ⇒ (10) - 1 = 9
Surkoff Hurntol |
Assume that there was healing enough to go around and get everyone back to full over the evening?
I am ready to play the good cop Hrakar.
Surkoff rests his hand on Hrakar's shoulder attempting to calm him down before he does something he might regret and then turns his attention to the birdman. "Did you not understand us when we said we just wanted to talk? This is what happens when violence is brought upon us, only this time we were nice enough to not finish the job, though that is mostly in thanks to the old codger over there." he points in the direction of Ralf. "How did you come to be on this island and how long have you been here? Well? What? A cat got your tongue?"
Diplomacy: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (10) + 6 = 16
Black Tom |
The tengu looks at you with a tired and bleary eye. "I guess you are going to torture me now, but I'll say that aty least I put up a good fight. Let it be said that I did not betray my captain and stood firm under the most vicious torture." He looks into the distance. "Oh, captain, my captain, I will soon be joining you." He sighs deeply. "Let it be done with quickly, and then you can go and join the other two."
Surkoff Hurntol |
"Let me guess, you were an actor before coming to this paradise of an island? A little bit more dramatic than I am used to. I do not want to kill you, I just want to get some information from you and then you can go on living your life, if you can call it that. We are trapped here and want only to escape this foul place, if you have anything that may be useful to us in this goal we can certainly reward you or even take you off this place as well if that is your desire. We can also just leave you here to live out your life within your interesting little home."
