Lyria moves closer to Ka'kara and touches her while transferring healing energies to her.

Switch Blindness for Cure Serious Wounds, 3d8 + 5 ⇒ (7, 4, 8) + 5 = 24 point heal.

Male Dwarf Rogue 5

Mahaffy will wait for Ka'kara or Gregori to attack the creature and then will take advantage of the haste spell to circle the creature and attack will his trusty axe
1d20 + 9 ⇒ (4) + 9 = 131d8 + 4 ⇒ (8) + 4 = 12
Sneak attack damage if applicable 3d6 ⇒ (2, 3, 5) = 10

"A little force damage might make this creature uneasy," the sorcerer says, firing off a magic missle.

Damage 3d4 + 3 ⇒ (2, 1, 1) + 3 = 7

Female Halfling Sorcerer (celestial)

I realized later that Roylenna's not of sufficient caster level to cast haste on the entire mob we call a party, so she has to be selective: Ka'kara, Mahaffy, Gregori, Tika, Lyria, and Roylenna. (Is that right? We have seven characters? I can affect six and I chose the ones most likely to benefit from the extra attack first, from the extra speed second. Sorry, Artival, you're the fastest of the non-front-liners, so I excluded you.

M Aasimar Paladin (Warrior of the Holy Light ) 5

Gregori's eyes flash, familiar golden light radiating from him ad he draws his blade, frost coating the length of it as a faint mist seems to swirl around it.

"Vile undead abomination, I will personally send you back to the hell that spaawned you!"

Swift action, Smite Evil
Move action Draw sword, stride forward
Standard Activate Holy light

AC incl haste and Smite: 30

Female Human Barbarian 7

Will save: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3

Giving a surprised little yelp as the fire burns her, she immediately takes on a rather green tone to her face. Despite this she still charges the fiery form while drawing her greatsword.

Charging greatsword attack: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (6) + 15 = 21
Damage: 2d6 + 17 ⇒ (4, 2) + 17 = 23

Male Human (mostly) Ex-cleric and Grumpy Cat

The malevolent spirit nimbly ducks away from Ka'kara's attack. Artival's missiles still strike true but don't seem to concern her unduly.

She unleashes a swathe of green flame at Gregori and hisses in discontent when it is deflected by his holy power.

Your turn.

M Aasimar Paladin (Warrior of the Holy Light ) 5

Gregori charges forward with a roaring battle cry, form blazing holy light as he strikes.

1d20 + 15 ⇒ (20) + 15 = 35Charge
1d8 + 5 + 10 + 1d6 ⇒ (1) + 5 + 10 + (4) = 20Last 4 pts is cold damage in case it matters against fire type undead

Confirmation
1d20 + 15 ⇒ (7) + 15 = 22Charge
1d8 + 5 ⇒ (7) + 5 = 12[ooc]Does the smite damage double on a crit? I doubt it but just checking

Female Human Barbarian 7

Flanking greatsword attack: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (19) + 15 = 34
Damage: 2d6 + 17 ⇒ (5, 5) + 17 = 27
Possible crit: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (9) + 15 = 24 Oooo, let's hope that's enough for the crit :)
Damage: 2d6 + 17 ⇒ (1, 3) + 17 = 21

Moving into a flanking position with Gregori Ka'kara slams her greatsword down through the witch with tremendous force.

EDIT: Heh, forgot my additional attacks...

Flanking greatsword attack due to haste: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (20) + 15 = 35
Damage: 2d6 + 17 ⇒ (4, 5) + 17 = 26 Oh wow, another potential crit.

Second greatsword attack: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (17) + 10 = 27
Damage: 2d6 + 17 ⇒ (1, 5) + 17 = 23

Crit confirm for Flanking greatsword attack due to haste: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (20) + 15 = 35 Uhhh, I guess that is a confirm...sheesh, nice rolls. Crazy.
Damage: 2d6 + 17 ⇒ (6, 5) + 17 = 28

If all that hits than that's a crazy 125 points damage!

Gregori Shadowbane wrote:

When I tried to find a definitive answer to this, I failed, but the consensus appears to be that when you crit, you multiple the non-random bonuses, but you exclude the random ones. That is, if you add X to each hit, multiply it. If you add dice to each hit, don't multiply them.

Also, on your smite, are you adding double your level for the smite bonus damage since it's an undead? (Only for the first hit - I had that wrong for the longest time.)

EDIT: For her action, I'm waiting to see what the result of the warriors' attacks is first.

32/42 HP

If the spirit isn't dead:

Lyria stands back behind Gregori's and Ka'kara's onslaught and channels energy to harm the spirit.

Channel energy for 3d6 + 4 ⇒ (5, 2, 2) + 4 = 13 points of damage.

Male Human (mostly) Ex-cleric and Grumpy Cat

Smite damage doubles on a crit, but you can't crit incorporeals, so the point is moot for now.

Ka'kara and Gregori put some serious hurt on the spirit even as their blades seem to pass through it. Lyria's channeling seems to hurt it a bit more, even if it manages to avoid the brunt of it.

M Aasimar Paladin (Warrior of the Holy Light ) 5

Blade whirling through the supernatural flame, Gregori strikes again the freezing cold of his sword causing an eruption of steam.

1d20 + 13 ⇒ (19) + 13 = 32
1d8 + 3 + 5 + 1d6 ⇒ (8) + 3 + 5 + (6) = 22

Dammit! back to back crits on the only enemy where it's meaningless!

Female Human Barbarian 7

Yep, I think the die-roller is mocking us Gregori >:(

Female Halfling Sorcerer (celestial)

Roylenna moves to get a clearer angle on the creature and fires a beam of fire at it.

Scorching Ray touch attack 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (15) + 8 = 23 +1 if she's within 30'

Damage 4d6 ⇒ (6, 4, 5, 5) = 20 +1 if she's within 30'

EDIT: Corrected her attack bonus for this spell.

M Aasimar Paladin (Warrior of the Holy Light ) 5

You do realize you just LITERALLY fought fire with fire right?

Female Halfling Sorcerer (celestial)
Gregori Shadowbane wrote:

hehe, yes. But I'm not clear on whether her flames are literally fire or not and it's my best potential damage, so I figured it would give it a shot. I'm hoping she's susceptible to some extent because that's the best Roylenna has ever rolled for that spell's damage...

Male Human (mostly) Ex-cleric and Grumpy Cat

The fiery spirit is unaffected by Roylenna's fire. In a fit of pique, she turns around and grasps Ka'kara (who has fire vulnerability) by the throat, burning her for a horrifying 82 points of damage.

I do hope that you have hero points enough to negate that crit (5).

Then Gregori smites her again. The rest of you are up.

Ftr1/Pal1 | LG | AC(19)17/14/16 | HP 18//18 | F+5,R+1,W+0 | Init+ 1 | Smite Evil 1/day

Artival keeps firing his magical missles.

Damage 3d4 + 3 ⇒ (3, 3, 3) + 3 = 12

Female Halfling Sorcerer (celestial)

Figures.

Frowning, Roylenna fires a different beam from her outstretched hand. Originally an emerald green, it becomes a flaming red as it approaches the creature. She will move to within 30' if she's not already.

Heavenly Fire touch attack 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (14) + 9 = 23
Untyped damage 1d4 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8

Female Human Barbarian 7
Black Tom wrote:

Nope, I have only ever got enough to re-roll my hp each level. So about 3, but since I just leveled and spent them I am currently at zero hero points.

Ka'kara was only down 6 hitpoints after Lyria's healing so she is currently at -7 hitpoints but will jump to -19 or -20 hitpoints next round when her rage wears off.

In any case she is down, out, and dying quickly.

The raging barbarianess can only choke out a gasp as the witch's hand closes around her throat. She struggles for a moment but senses the wound is mortal as the stench of her own burned and charred flesh fills her nose and mouth. Her body topples, smashing into the ground, while streaming smoke in an arc from the witch's hand to the blackened and still sizzling wound that used to be her neck...

Male Human (mostly) Ex-cleric and Grumpy Cat

Good thing you got those rerolls then. Gosh, that barbarian lady is hardy. :)

Tika, Mahaffy, Lyria are up and then the burning spirit.

Also Gregori and Mahaffy need to make Fort 22 saves or be sickened and enveloped in witchflame.

I'm going on vacation for a week, so updates will be very spotty the coming week, but I hope we can at least finish this battle somehow.

Female Halfling Bard 1

Tika moves over to Ka'kara and casts cure light on her

Guys , at least you make good rolls ...

32/42 HP

Lyria gasps as Ka'kara catches fire and burns quickly. Ignoring the heat, she catches the stumbling barbarian woman while pressing her holy symbol to her body.

Switch Summon monster III for Cure Serious Wounds, heal Ka'kara for 3d8 + 5 ⇒ (6, 1, 7) + 5 = 19 points of damage.

Male Human (mostly) Ex-cleric and Grumpy Cat

Seeing with contentment the barbarian fall, the burning lady turns her attentions to Gregori and burns him for 34 points of damage (with vulnerability).

You are up.

Male Dwarf Rogue 5

Let's try again
1d20 + 9 ⇒ (9) + 9 = 181d8 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9 sneak if applicable 3d6 ⇒ (3, 1, 1) = 5

Ftr1/Pal1 | LG | AC(19)17/14/16 | HP 18//18 | F+5,R+1,W+0 | Init+ 1 | Smite Evil 1/day

Feeling completely outgunned, all Artival could do was to continue firing his minor missles at teh monster.

Magic Missle Damage 3d4 + 3 ⇒ (4, 4, 3) + 3 = 14

32/42 HP

As Gregori is also badly burnt by the burning lady, Lyria rushes to him and uses another of her healing spells to heal him.

switch suggestion for cure serious wounds, heal Gregori for 3d8 + 5 ⇒ (6, 8, 1) + 5 = 20 points.

Male Human (mostly) Ex-cleric and Grumpy Cat

Under your assault the monster finally dissipates in a puff of marsh gas. You get 914 xp each for this ordeal.

The blink dog reappears, looking mildly worried. It beckons to you to follow it.

Male Dwarf Rogue 5

and that was just a random encounter ... Well Raveloft's random were actually more dangerous than the actual adventure . Let's just hope that Rappan Attuk is the same

should we follow the nice doggie ?

Female Human Barbarian 7

Currently at 14 hps

Ka'kara blinks her eyes open from the ground but her throat hurts too much to even try to speaking. She staggers to her feet but does not look well at all. Even so, she nods to Mahaffy's question.

Female Halfling Sorcerer (celestial)

"Lean down here, Ka'kara. I can't do much, but I can't do it at all with you so tall." Roylenna uses her Heavenly Fire on the barbarian's throat. While the barbarian princess is down at eye level, the little sorceress looks at her intently and whispers something.

Ka'kara, in Tharbrian:
"What am I doing to do if you go and get yourself killed? I thought you were dead for sure!"

She gives the larger woman a hug around her tender neck, apologizes, and, hands glowing green, tries to heal some of the pain.

Healing 1d4 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5

Female Human Barbarian 7

With a wince as the healing fire takes effect she says back in Tharbrian:

Spoiler:
"So did I, Lenna, so did I."

M Aasimar Paladin (Warrior of the Holy Light ) 5

Gregori lets out a deep breath, sword clutched tightly in hand, his other hand on Lyria's shoulder. He locks eyes with her for a moment.

"Thanks, I don't knoow what we'd do without you."

Female Halfling Bard 1

Tika once again heals Ka'kara

Cure light

1d8 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 5 = 7

"Yeah lets see where the dog leads."

Ftr1/Pal1 | LG | AC(19)17/14/16 | HP 18//18 | F+5,R+1,W+0 | Init+ 1 | Smite Evil 1/day

"Lead on, doggie and we will follow!" Artival adds, nodding to the magical beast.

Also, next rest Artival levels and finally gets a third level spell!!

Male Human (mostly) Ex-cleric and Grumpy Cat

The dog actually speaks.

Sylvan:

Spoiler:
You saved us from a horrible monster, who's been harassing us for years. The least we can do is lead you to her treasure. Also we will escort you safely wherever you are going. Where are you going, by the way?

Female Halfling Sorcerer (celestial)

Roylenna doesn't know Sylvan. Just in case no one else does, either, she will try to communicate with what she has.

Linguistics 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (20) + 6 = 26 attempting to understand the blink dog

Draconic:
"I don't know that language. Do you understand Draconic?"

She doesn't think her other languages will work, so she hesitates to use them.

Edit: Hmm, maybe I should use Linguistics more often!

Female Halfling Bard 1

"Hold on a sec"

Tika casts a spell on herself (tongues) And assuming it repeates itself

"It wants to lead us to that things treasure says it has been harassing them for years. It is also offering to escort us wherever we are going."

Female Human Barbarian 7

26/69 HP

Her neck still charred even though the beginnings of swiftly regenerating flesh can be glimpsed underneath the blackened area, the barbarianess begins to follow the dog.

Male Dwarf Rogue 5

Treasure ? Good dog

Female Halfling Sorcerer (celestial)

Roylenna sticks as close to Ka'kara as her shorter legs will allow.

32/42 HP

After the battle, Lyria will channel twice, however she will need to rest as she doesn't have much effective healing left if the next encounters will hit as hard.
Channel Energy: 3d6 ⇒ (1, 4, 2) = 7
Channel Energy: 3d6 ⇒ (1, 5, 3) = 9 - overall 16 point heal to everyone

Lyria walks on, obviously exhausted after the fight and the heavy wounds some of the party members sustained. As Gregori applauds her, she wearily nods her head.

Male Dwarf Rogue 5

Mahaffy will move near Roylenna during the march and pat her shoulder speaking softly
Another close call there but do not be downcast , Ka'Kara is tough.

Male Human (mostly) Ex-cleric and Grumpy Cat

As you walk, the blink dog is joined by three others, seemingly younger, because they are very frolicky and tend to get in your way a lot, or butting up against you in a friendly way. The elder dog yaps at them a few times, but they're not heeding him a lot.

Anyway, you get to a small lifeless glade, formed as all the trees have burned to the ground. In the middle of it there is a human (or possibly elven) wearing tatters of robes, a rod of some sort, a scroll and a silver necklace encrusted with sapphires.

The scroll is an arcane scroll of Draconic Reservoir.

The rod (Spellcraft 32):

Spoiler:
is a lesser Silent Metamagic Rod.

The necklace is not magic but (Appraise 20)

Spoiler:
it's worth 850 gp.
