Roylenna Brenoien |
I realized later that Roylenna's not of sufficient caster level to cast haste on the entire mob we call a party, so she has to be selective: Ka'kara, Mahaffy, Gregori, Tika, Lyria, and Roylenna. (Is that right? We have seven characters? I can affect six and I chose the ones most likely to benefit from the extra attack first, from the extra speed second. Sorry, Artival, you're the fastest of the non-front-liners, so I excluded you.
Gregori Shadowbane |
Gregori's eyes flash, familiar golden light radiating from him ad he draws his blade, frost coating the length of it as a faint mist seems to swirl around it.
"Vile undead abomination, I will personally send you back to the hell that spaawned you!"
Swift action, Smite Evil
Move action Draw sword, stride forward
Standard Activate Holy light
AC incl haste and Smite: 30
Ka'kara Furyheart |
Will save: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3
Giving a surprised little yelp as the fire burns her, she immediately takes on a rather green tone to her face. Despite this she still charges the fiery form while drawing her greatsword.
Charging greatsword attack: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (6) + 15 = 21
Damage: 2d6 + 17 ⇒ (4, 2) + 17 = 23
Black Tom |
The malevolent spirit nimbly ducks away from Ka'kara's attack. Artival's missiles still strike true but don't seem to concern her unduly.
She unleashes a swathe of green flame at Gregori and hisses in discontent when it is deflected by his holy power.
Your turn.
Gregori Shadowbane |
Gregori charges forward with a roaring battle cry, form blazing holy light as he strikes.
1d20 + 15 ⇒ (20) + 15 = 35Charge
1d8 + 5 + 10 + 1d6 ⇒ (1) + 5 + 10 + (4) = 20Last 4 pts is cold damage in case it matters against fire type undead
Confirmation
1d20 + 15 ⇒ (7) + 15 = 22Charge
1d8 + 5 ⇒ (7) + 5 = 12[ooc]Does the smite damage double on a crit? I doubt it but just checking
Ka'kara Furyheart |
Flanking greatsword attack: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (19) + 15 = 34
Damage: 2d6 + 17 ⇒ (5, 5) + 17 = 27
Possible crit: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (9) + 15 = 24 Oooo, let's hope that's enough for the crit :)
Damage: 2d6 + 17 ⇒ (1, 3) + 17 = 21
Moving into a flanking position with Gregori Ka'kara slams her greatsword down through the witch with tremendous force.
EDIT: Heh, forgot my additional attacks...
Flanking greatsword attack due to haste: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (20) + 15 = 35
Damage: 2d6 + 17 ⇒ (4, 5) + 17 = 26 Oh wow, another potential crit.
Second greatsword attack: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (17) + 10 = 27
Damage: 2d6 + 17 ⇒ (1, 5) + 17 = 23
Crit confirm for Flanking greatsword attack due to haste: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (20) + 15 = 35 Uhhh, I guess that is a confirm...sheesh, nice rolls. Crazy.
Damage: 2d6 + 17 ⇒ (6, 5) + 17 = 28
If all that hits than that's a crazy 125 points damage!
Roylenna Brenoien |
Does the smite damage double on a crit? I doubt it but just checking
When I tried to find a definitive answer to this, I failed, but the consensus appears to be that when you crit, you multiple the non-random bonuses, but you exclude the random ones. That is, if you add X to each hit, multiply it. If you add dice to each hit, don't multiply them.
Also, on your smite, are you adding double your level for the smite bonus damage since it's an undead? (Only for the first hit - I had that wrong for the longest time.)
EDIT: For her action, I'm waiting to see what the result of the warriors' attacks is first.
Black Tom |
Smite damage doubles on a crit, but you can't crit incorporeals, so the point is moot for now.
Ka'kara and Gregori put some serious hurt on the spirit even as their blades seem to pass through it. Lyria's channeling seems to hurt it a bit more, even if it manages to avoid the brunt of it.
Gregori Shadowbane |
Blade whirling through the supernatural flame, Gregori strikes again the freezing cold of his sword causing an eruption of steam.
1d20 + 13 ⇒ (19) + 13 = 32
1d8 + 3 + 5 + 1d6 ⇒ (8) + 3 + 5 + (6) = 22
Dammit! back to back crits on the only enemy where it's meaningless!
Roylenna Brenoien |
Roylenna moves to get a clearer angle on the creature and fires a beam of fire at it.
Scorching Ray touch attack 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (15) + 8 = 23 +1 if she's within 30'
Damage 4d6 ⇒ (6, 4, 5, 5) = 20 +1 if she's within 30'
EDIT: Corrected her attack bonus for this spell.
Roylenna Brenoien |
You do realize you just LITERALLY fought fire with fire right?
hehe, yes. But I'm not clear on whether her flames are literally fire or not and it's my best potential damage, so I figured it would give it a shot. I'm hoping she's susceptible to some extent because that's the best Roylenna has ever rolled for that spell's damage...
Black Tom |
The fiery spirit is unaffected by Roylenna's fire. In a fit of pique, she turns around and grasps Ka'kara (who has fire vulnerability) by the throat, burning her for a horrifying 82 points of damage.
I do hope that you have hero points enough to negate that crit (5).
Then Gregori smites her again. The rest of you are up.
Roylenna Brenoien |
Figures.
Frowning, Roylenna fires a different beam from her outstretched hand. Originally an emerald green, it becomes a flaming red as it approaches the creature. She will move to within 30' if she's not already.
Heavenly Fire touch attack 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (14) + 9 = 23
Untyped damage 1d4 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8
Ka'kara Furyheart |
I do hope that you have hero points enough to negate that crit (5).
Nope, I have only ever got enough to re-roll my hp each level. So about 3, but since I just leveled and spent them I am currently at zero hero points.
Ka'kara was only down 6 hitpoints after Lyria's healing so she is currently at -7 hitpoints but will jump to -19 or -20 hitpoints next round when her rage wears off.
In any case she is down, out, and dying quickly.
The raging barbarianess can only choke out a gasp as the witch's hand closes around her throat. She struggles for a moment but senses the wound is mortal as the stench of her own burned and charred flesh fills her nose and mouth. Her body topples, smashing into the ground, while streaming smoke in an arc from the witch's hand to the blackened and still sizzling wound that used to be her neck...
Black Tom |
Good thing you got those rerolls then. Gosh, that barbarian lady is hardy. :)
Tika, Mahaffy, Lyria are up and then the burning spirit.
Also Gregori and Mahaffy need to make Fort 22 saves or be sickened and enveloped in witchflame.
I'm going on vacation for a week, so updates will be very spotty the coming week, but I hope we can at least finish this battle somehow.
Mahaffy |
Not much chance but there is the fortitude save 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 2 = 9
Seeing Ka'kara fall , Mahaffy swears in dwarvish and then take a five foot step to position himself with Gregory
1d20 + 9 ⇒ (5) + 9 = 141d8 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5 sneak if applicable 3d6 ⇒ (1, 3, 4) = 8
1d20 + 9 ⇒ (2) + 9 = 111d8 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5 sneak if applicable 3d6 ⇒ (3, 5, 5) = 13
Guys , at least you make good rolls ...
Gregori Shadowbane |
With a roar of rage Gregoris frigid blade slashes the fiery form, a glow momentarily spreading over his body.
1d20 + 13 ⇒ (17) + 13 = 30
1d8 + 5 + 3 + 1d6 ⇒ (7) + 5 + 3 + (6) = 21
1d20 + 13 ⇒ (10) + 13 = 23
1d8 + 5 + 3 + 1d6 ⇒ (6) + 5 + 3 + (4) = 18
Swift action Lay on Hands (self)

Roylenna Brenoien |
"Lean down here, Ka'kara. I can't do much, but I can't do it at all with you so tall." Roylenna uses her Heavenly Fire on the barbarian's throat. While the barbarian princess is down at eye level, the little sorceress looks at her intently and whispers something.
She gives the larger woman a hug around her tender neck, apologizes, and, hands glowing green, tries to heal some of the pain.
Healing 1d4 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5
Roylenna Brenoien |
Roylenna doesn't know Sylvan. Just in case no one else does, either, she will try to communicate with what she has.
Linguistics 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (20) + 6 = 26 attempting to understand the blink dog
She doesn't think her other languages will work, so she hesitates to use them.
Edit: Hmm, maybe I should use Linguistics more often!
Lyria Ghoulbane |
After the battle, Lyria will channel twice, however she will need to rest as she doesn't have much effective healing left if the next encounters will hit as hard.
Channel Energy: 3d6 ⇒ (1, 4, 2) = 7
Channel Energy: 3d6 ⇒ (1, 5, 3) = 9 - overall 16 point heal to everyone
Lyria walks on, obviously exhausted after the fight and the heavy wounds some of the party members sustained. As Gregori applauds her, she wearily nods her head.
Black Tom |
As you walk, the blink dog is joined by three others, seemingly younger, because they are very frolicky and tend to get in your way a lot, or butting up against you in a friendly way. The elder dog yaps at them a few times, but they're not heeding him a lot.
Anyway, you get to a small lifeless glade, formed as all the trees have burned to the ground. In the middle of it there is a human (or possibly elven) wearing tatters of robes, a rod of some sort, a scroll and a silver necklace encrusted with sapphires.
The scroll is an arcane scroll of Draconic Reservoir.
The rod (Spellcraft 32):
The necklace is not magic but (Appraise 20)
