Zababa |
"My tabulations are complete; while keeping the magical sword, fine armor for Tyros and regular armor for Torric, potions, and a horse for each of us, we each get one hundred sixty three gold, and nine silver after acquiring a healing wand and bartering with the town's merchants for the remaining portion of our claim. We're rich!"
Total wealth each: 163 gp, 9 sp
Torric |
Torric is here! and taking one of the chain shirts, but not making any new purchases. I think as a party, we were going to buy a wand of CLW if we could... At least I think that was the consensus.. I could be wrong. Maybe it was just potions, as I'm not sure we have a caster who can use the wand. I don't remember lol.
Tyros |
Tyros here! I took the masterwork chain shirt and purchased a masterwork backpack. Tam can use the CLW wand, and I vote for him to hold onto it. I took a level in paladin, so I can also use the CLW wand if needed. We also have four potions (CLW at CL 3rd, Barkskin, Enlarge Person, and Oil of Magic Weapon) to assign, as well as the +1 Longsword.
Zababa |
Total wealth each: 163 gp, 9 sp
Add 231gp and 5sp for selling the +1 Longsword.
Zababa confers with Byrny's blacksmith and leatherworker to acquire an exquisite set of armor. Purchase masterwork studded leather, 175gp cost
Black Tom |
OK, I think you'll do fine with the wand. Tam will have to catch up if he does. For the future, please let me know beforehand if you're going to be unable to post for an extended period (a week or more).
After a good night's rest, sharing your stories and shopping for some better equipment, you set out to rescue the victims of the slavers and to explore more of the strange ruins.
This time you have horses and the journey is almost pleasant. The entrance is unguarded and you can put your horses in the stables. Where do you want to explore next - the building or the courtyard?
Black Tom |
The courtyard is strewn with rubble, and there doesn't seem to be anything interesting lying around. But you never know...
Perception 20:
Perception 22:
But your rummaging does not go unnoticed. Roll for initiative.
Torric |
Torric lifts the holy symbol and ring from the rubble to show the others, and seems to be unaware of almost anything else.
perception: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (16) + 5 = 21
Concentrating on his finds, he is slow to react to whatever is about to happen...
initiative: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4
Zababa |
Zababa inspects Torric's find, turning each item over and around in the light of the sun.
Appraise (symbol): 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (9) + 8 = 17
Appraise (ring): 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (13) + 8 = 21
"Wow, Torric! Those are terrific finds!"
Zababa |
As the group slowly picked their way through the courtyard, Zababa alternated between drawing sketches of the magnificent ruins and oogling whatever treasures were turned up.
Satisfied the courtyard was about as thoroughly picked over as could be expected, he eyed the buildings still standing. "Can we go check those out, now?"
Zababa |
Psst! Hey Zababa! We're about to be attacked (see the end of BT's last post) - You need to roll Initiative.
D'oh! Dunno how I missed that....
Initiative: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5
Tyros |
Round One:
Unsurprised by the sudden appearance of the giant centipedes, Tyros takes a step back and slashes at the nearest vermin with his fauchard.

Zababa |
Round 1
Zababa reacts to the eruption of centipedes in front of him with surprising speed, drawing his dagger and stabbing at one before it could get a chance to bite him.
Move Action: draw weapon, Standard Action: attack (M,50)

Zababa |
Scroll down to rows 50-60.
With the centipede in front of him no longer a problem, Zababa edges around the "nest" to try for another of the live ones...
Attack (Dagger): 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (1) + 5 = 6
... missing completely.
Torric |
Torric takes a small step 5' step to I-50 and quickly mixes a reagent with the contents of a vial, which he then throws at one of the centipedes. throwing at the one at L-51
to hit with ranged touch attack, bomb: 1d20 + 3 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 3 + 1 = 12
damage, no save: 1d6 + 3 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 3 + 1 = 6
The other three centipedes around the target all get hit with the splash from the explosion 4 points of splash damage each, reflex save for half, dc 14
Tyros |
BT, are we battling four (now two) giant centipedes or a centipede swarm?
Please note: Tyros stepped back to square J,48 last round and killed the centipede in L,50 with a reach weapon (assuming it was a giant centipede). Would any other centipedes have provoked AoO from Tyros when they moved into melee range with him after he moved to J,48?
Tam o' the Dale |
I guess that Tam would now be in N49. Assuming the one in front of him is now dead, he'll move forward again to N50 and repeat his action.
Tam missed his stroke but was mildly impressed to see Zababa so neatly kill one with his dagger.
"A well struck blow, my friend," Tam said before moving forward and pressing the attack against the next centipede.
Attack, scimitar: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (16) + 2 = 18
Damage, scimitar: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3
Black Tom |
I stand corrected. The damage and save go to Tam instead of Tyros.
Just as you dispatch the last of the centipedes, a giant insectlike monster bursts out of the ground next to Tyros, its snapping jaws barely missing him.
I can't update the map right now, but you can flank all you want. Let's finish this without the map.
You are all up.
Torric |
Torric looks at the large insect in surprise, and without thinking, surges forward, drawing his blade with rage flaring in his eyes. He slices at the monstrosity with a mighty swing.
to hit: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (14) + 5 = 19
damage: 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7
Tyros |
Oops! Sorry Tam!
Confronted by this new threat, Tyros doesn't hesitate to bring his fauchard to bear against the giant insectlike monster.
Standard action to attack new threat from 10 ft away with reach weapon, moving to set up flank with an ally if necessary.
Fauchard Attack: 1d20 + 4 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 4 + 2 = 11
Fauchard Damage: 1d10 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5
Tyros' AC: 16
Tyros' HP: 21/21
Zababa |
Zababa moves behind the creature when it burst out of the ground and attacked Tyros, seeking to take advantage of it's focus on Tyros.
Attack (Dagger, Flank): 1d20 + 5 + 2 ⇒ (13) + 5 + 2 = 20
Damage (Sneak Attack): 1d3 + 1d6 ⇒ (1) + (3) = 4
Torric |
Torric takes a vicious slash with his scimitar.
to hit: 1d20 + 5 + 2 ⇒ (19) + 5 + 2 = 26
to confirm: 1d20 + 5 + 2 ⇒ (15) + 5 + 2 = 22
crit damage: 2d6 + 8 ⇒ (4, 4) + 8 = 16
Black Tom |
Torric's blow finishes off the exhausted bug, which goes on to bug heaven.
A quick search of the rest of the courtyard turns up the half-eaten body of a slaver near the ankheg's lair. He carries 14 gp and has a masterwork dagger hidden in his boot.
There is hardly anything more of interest in the ruins proper, except signs that the slavers made their camp there, but a door opens into a passage leading into the mountainside. At the end of it there is a door (not trapped) that leads into a large room.
This 40-foot-by-40-foot chamber is unlit. The ceiling is 20 feet high and a pair of double doors is centered on the south wall (opposite where you enter). The east wall contains a single door that appears recently repaired and reinforced with iron supports. The southwest corner of the room is covered in a pile of rubble from a partial ceiling collapse. Intermixed in the rubble are large thick bones, perhaps an entire skeleton.
