Stella Lucem Caelum |
Stella was squeezing her way through everything with them and when she saw the body she would kneel to examine it. She hadn't really seen many people from town but this could be one of them.

Azariah checks the body, and makes a few discoveries
Stella moves up next to Azariah, and for a moment she looks at the body and tries to see if it is anyone she might know, but then she shakes her head as if she is chasing away a frivolous thought.
Ritmush Noscale |
Ritmush taps his foot and bobs in place a few times as Azariah and Stella look things over while the remaining group covers them.
"So.." the human leads looking around the room.
"there is a suspisious amounta'h whole lotta' nothin' round here."
Azariah Seriah |
"This is Parda Garr," Azariah relayed, as calmly and analytically as she could manage. "She was from town. Good people. Someone came up behind her and stabbed her - a lot." Arranging the body as best she can, Azariah murmurs a brief prayer that the woman's soul finds it's way to the Boneyard.
Stella Lucem Caelum |
"I say when we leave here we take her with. If I were friends or family I would want to treat her to a proper burial." She said biting her lip remembering other such scenes. Only more gruesome.
Shuddering at all those dead that were left behind her frown deepening and she rubbed her arms looking around. Her Halo lighting up to make her feel more comfortable.
Azariah Seriah |
Perception: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10
Azariah shrugged a little, as she didn't see an obvious answer, but nodded along with Stella. "Circumstances permitting," she agreed.
Stella Lucem Caelum |
Perception: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (12) + 9 = 21
"Since there is blood pooled here and drops coming from that direction. What ever killed her, killed her here. But had injured her before and she was running from it. It chased her hear and killed her."
Stella would look at the poor woman and would swallow. What killed her would have to pay but Stella knew it would be dangerous. "Alright, I think I am ready to move forward. We know there is danger ahead. I can try to follow the blood drips to what did this."
Kleora |
Kleora noticed that Stella was disturbed by something, though she didn't know what, and approached the aasimar from behind as she stood there collecting herself. The sorceress reached up and began to gently knead the lovely ladies shoulders to try and help comfort her. She didn't say anything but was ready to move on when the rest were.
Ritmush Noscale |
Ritmush walks a bit closer to the corpse and shrugs as others talk.
" Soh are we ignorin' tha' fact ah her all bein' in one piece if it was somethin' like twinkle an' its siblin's? Cuz ah've yet to see turn down food wit'ou somethin' bein' wrong wit it."
perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (3) + 6 = 9 Ritmush pays little attention to the specifics of the corpses state though. The human hefting his bug-on-a-stick and walking along with Unbolath.
" Hey, smooth rock guy yanno' anythin' abou bugs?"
Unbolath |
Unbolath responds to Ritmush, "My training and studies have exposed me to some lore surrounding the various vermin species. As you suggest it seems clear that the victim was not killed by the beetles."
Stella Lucem Caelum |
Stella jumped at first but, when she realized it was just Kleora she would relax her small wings fluttering. As she helped work out the knots in her shoulders she sighed softly feeling her body relax.
"The beetles probably didn't come this far." She would let John go in front of her after his comment about staying out of his line of fire.
Terquem |
As the others take one more look at the body on the floor, and Ritmsh mentions, well, something about it being, “in one piece,” and not having been eaten by the beetles, Unbolath moves further to the east.
The floor slopes down sharply here, to a floor about twenty feet below a cavernous ceiling filled with stalactites.
Once he reaches the floor, he loses the trail of blood where there are several large drops. As he looks down and around for any sign of where this person might have come from, he notices that this area is littered with cave fungus, growing in small patches on the floor and on the walls all around. The faint sound of trickling water draws his attention to the shadowy northern part of the cavern and he can just barely make out a pool of dark water in that direction and he can tell that the splashing water sound comes from there.
Looking back again and sweeping the large chamber for any sign of an ambush, Unbolath is suddenly caught in a blinding flare of bright white light.
Unbolath, make a Fortitude save, the DC is 13, or you are blinded for 1 hour
A bright white light suddenly flares to the east, where Unbolath had scouted, and then it is suddenly dark once more.
Azariah Seriah |
"Whoops." Rising to her feet, Azariah moved into the same cavern as Unbolath, one hand over her eyes in case whatever flash of light had just flashed the area came again.
Kleora |
Kleora laughed lightly at Stella's jump under her touch but was glad to feel the woman's shoulders relax a bit. She leaned in and whispered to her after finished,
As they proceeded through the caves Kleora stayed near to Stella, she oddly found comfort in the woman's presence and decided to stay close to her. She noticed the bright flash ahead and said, "Uh, oh, I think he just triggered something. I'd suggest we go help him quickly."
Unbolath |
fort save: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6
The bright light flashed, and Unbolath was able to see no more.
"Be careful there is something in here that has blinded me."
He will begin to feel his way backwards the way he came.

Torch, in the Caves Below the Hill
Day 2, turn 65
Azariah sees the flash coming from the east, and quicly gets up and heads toward Unbolath, shielding her eyes.
Standing next to Stella, Kleora also sees the brief flash of bright light, and warns the others.
meanwhile
Suddenly blinded by the bright Flash, Unbolath takes a moment to try and get his bearings in the hope that he can retrace his steps back toward the others when he hears the unmistakable sound of large flat feet slapping on the rocky pebble strewn floor of the cave, and then something slams into him
As a Surprise round action, the Blindheim will attempt to Tackle Unbolath in an attempt to knock him prone. Now I am a bit out of the rules here, because you can Bull Rush as a charge, but the rules only allow you to move your opponent, while a trip can be made in place of an attack, but not a charge, and can knock an opponent prone. I do not see why a creature could not bull rush an opponent with the intention of throwing themselves at the target in the hope of knocking the target to the ground, and then possibly initiate a grapple, or attack the prone opponent with bite or claw attacks. I am calling this a Tackle, which would normally provoke an AoO similar to a bull rush, but if it is successful the opponent must make a Reflex Save, the DC equal to the CM roll of the tackle attempt. If the save is failed the target is knocked off his or her feet, but if the save is made, the target is pushed back 5 feet and stays on their feet. If this gives anybody grief, or if there is a way to do this I am unaware of, please tell me in the discussion thread. Also, I do not see that Blinded creatures suffer any negative modifier to their CMD, though it seems that they should. Is there an errata on this?
CM, Tackle vs Unbolath: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (12) + 3 = 15
Unbolath must succeed on a Reflex save, the DC is 15, or be knocked prone. If he fails, both he and the Blindheim are prone, and that is the end of the surprise round. If he succeeds, he is pushed back (I will update the map tonight) and neither he or the Blindheim are knocked prone
Azariah approaches Unbolath’s position quickly, but with caution, and she sees a small humanoid creature come charging out of the shadows right at Unbolath.
Initiative: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (10) + 2 = 12
Roll for initiative
Kleora |
I don't know for sure but my gut instinct is that no you can't. That being said, I think it's funny and it's your game so as long as we can do it too, GO FOR IT!
Unbolath |
A trip attack can be done in place of a melee attack. At the end of a charge you may make a single melee attack, therefore my understanding is that is it a valid combination. He still has to complete the partial charge (30 move for him). He gets +2 to the CM because he is charging (and the -2 to AC for a round). Unbolath loses his dex bonus to AC for being blinded (+2 in his case) and thus also loses that from his CMD as per the rules on how CMB/CMD work. Unbolath's CMD is normally 17, reduced to 15 for being blind. The creature gets an additional +2 to add to its +3 CMB for charging, so +5 for a total CMB roll of 17 which would knock Unbolath down even without being blinded. If you want me to save though I can, but no custom rules are needed for the scenario; although it is a trip and not a bull rush.
reflex save DC 15: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (20) + 4 = 24 - look I even got a 20 dang ;)
Azariah Seriah |
Initiative: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4
Although she'd shielded her eyes from the worst of the light, Azariah had to shake off the sharp flashes and shapes they left anyway. It meant she was slower than she might have been otherwise.
Ritmush Noscale |
Init: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (12) + 4 = 16
Ritmush on the other hand was staring at the cave wall and muttering to himself while Unbolath did other less important things.
The young one blinking as the scuffle began before moving to get a better view.
Assuming I can't see where I am ritmush would move on his turn to see this thing. Moving the dancing lights/ conjured torches into the room so he can properly see stuff.
Kleora |
Kleora found herself with little that she could do just now so she went with what made the most sense. She focused for a moment and suddenly Unbolath's clothes to become coated in a grease like substance that made his attackers grip much more difficult.
Init: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7
+10 circumstance bonus on Escape Artist checks and combat maneuver checks made to escape a grapple, and to their CMD to avoid being grappled.
Terquem |
Okay, Thanks Unbolath, I didn’t relize you could do a CM with a Charge, so that means that a Trip attack is successful, and Unbolath is knocked Prone. I will let you have the “20” for your Initiative roll, allowing you to go first in Round 1. Then John, followed by Ritmush will act, and then the Monster. Is that acceptable?
John – 19
Ritmus – 16
Blindheim - 12
Kleora – 7
Stella – 5
Azariah – 4
Round 1…
Some sort of small amphibian like creature has knocked Unbolath to the cave floor and now stands over him looking like it intends to attack him…
But Unbolath, though his vision is nothing but swirling circles of light, is quick to recognize he is in danger.
Ritmush Noscale |
Ritmush moves up and looks at the lizard-y fish frog thing brow quirked at the things strange features. " Uh.. is'az thin' blind? wait rock guy why are you blind if its blind.. ah.. what? Tha' heck iz'at thin anyway?"
The human queries before lining up a potshot with his crossbow.
" Meh. Ah'll figure it out latah."
Thwock: 1d20 + 3 - 4 ⇒ (13) + 3 - 4 = 121d8 ⇒ 1 Between what all is going on I'm fairly sure I take a penalty to hit here somewhere.

Round 1, continued…
As Unbolath gets to his feet, the small creature claws and bites at him.
Claw Attack: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (16) + 5 = 21
Claw Attack: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (1) + 5 = 6
Bite Attack: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (8) + 5 = 13
Claw Damage: 1d3 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
Bite damage: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3
I believe a concentration check is in order to keep from losing the spell
Unbolath feels the sharp sting of claws and teeth on his flesh
And then sensing the approach of more humanoids, it turns its eyes toward the tunnel
John levels his musket and a thunderous sound echoes through the cave as the weapon discharges
Ritmush follows John, and as the crack of the black powder weapon rings in his ears he aims his crossbow at the monster near Unbolath, but his missile goes wide to the right.
The creature blinks, and suddenly the cavern is filled with a blinding white light.
And then the monster tries to claw and bite Unbolath again
Claw Attack: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (14) + 5 = 19
Claw Attack: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (10) + 5 = 15
Bite Attack: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (10) + 5 = 15
Claw Damage: 1d3 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2
Claw Damage: 1d3 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2
Bite damage: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2
And again Turning this way and that, Unbolath feels the bite and claws of the small creature
John, Ritmush, and Azariah must make Fortitude Saves, the DC is 13. I will give Azariah a +2 circumstance bonus, as she has said more than once she is trying to protect her eyes either with her hand, or by blinking. If you fail the save you are now blinded for the next hour, and Azaraih will have to apply those modifiers to her attack.
Kleora and Stella see the flash of light ahead, and wonder what is going on.
Blindheim – takes 5 damage (17)
Unbolath – takes 13 damage (6)
Azariah Seriah |
Will Save: 1d20 + 4 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 4 + 2 = 8
"Argh, that burns like anything!" Blinded too, Azariah was forced to take a step back to avoid getting in the way of combat, using the length of her scythe like a stick to find the way.
Stella Lucem Caelum |
Know: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (18) + 4 = 22
As she heard the shouts and saw the blinding light Stella frowned trying to recall what it could be. "Protect your eyes it sounds like there is something going on."
She would protect her eyes trying to see what was going on making sure not to look into the light.
Unbolath |
Unbolath tries to remember what this creature might be.
Knowledge check (Nature/Dungeoneering): 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (2) + 7 = 9
He tries to listen and keep tabs on his companions locations as best he can as the little monster claws and bites at him.
Perception: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (3) + 9 = 12
Are we on round 2 yet, not sure if I need to prepare my next action yet.

Round 2
Focusing in on where the creature is, relying on his other senses and guided by his magic, Unbolath tries swings his sword with all his might where at the creature.
Greatsword, Power Attack, True Strike: 1d20 + 5 + 20 ⇒ (7) + 5 + 20 = 32
True Strike lets me ignore the the creature's concealment for being blind.
Damage: 2d6 + 9 ⇒ (3, 3) + 9 = 15
Ritmush Noscale |
Fort: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (13) + 3 = 16
Ritmush stares dumbly at the creature his goggles glinting off the creatures mystical light.
" wow.. tha' was bright. Ah.. how tha' heck'd it do that? Ah nevah mind ah'll ask tha' when it stops makin' everyone blind." The human asks, noting everyone except him near the thing seemed to be blind. The human moving around to the other sid eof the creature and punching it in the head with a gauntlet studded with metal scrap.
Smack: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (17) + 2 = 191d3 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2
" Oi, over here ya hoppy blind thing." the human calls.

Round 1, wrap up
As Azariah is coming into the chamber and the light blinds her, Kleora and Stella decide to hang back a moment, and try to determine what is going on. Kleora throws a spell out toward Unbolath, and coats him in slippery grease, making it impossible for the small creature to get a hold of him, while Stella thinks back on her lessons from school and is reminded of something she read
Round 2…
Spinning in place, Unbolath feels the magic of his spell pull him toward the target and with a mighty blow he brings down his sword on the creature stunning it almost senseless, and then Ritmush clobbers the creature from behind, knocking it to the floor, apparently unconscious.
The lights from the creature’s eyes go out.
Blindheim – takes 5 damage (17)
Unbolath – takes 10 damage (9)
Round 2
Blindheim – takes 17 damage (0)
The creature appears to be alive, but just barely, lying unconscious on the floor. Unbolath, Azariah, and John are blind
Ritmush Noscale |
Ritmush smiles as the creature goes down and looks ready to say something. Whatever it is is stalled as he seems to concentrate for a moment and then flails his arms
" Ack! I'h got meh too!"
Stella Lucem Caelum |
"Yes, this creature is a Blindheim. The blindness is temporary, I am just not familiar with how long. If you guys don't flail to much I can lead you all together. Who is blinded?" Stella would creep out and draws everyone together that is blind.
"I don't believe the creature is dead but it is down for the count right now."
Kleora |
"Given the unfamiliarity we have with these caves it might be best to wait a few minutes to see if their vision clears up," Kleora suggested, "if it doesn't then we can try leading them around."
Unbolath |
"If the blindness is temporary, it is best to wait until it wears off, so that we can all be at full capability. We do not know what other dangers lurk here. This spot is safe for now."
Unbolath finds a spot to sit and wait out the recovery of his eyesight with the others.
