As the kill-team enters the armory to equip themselves they are greeted by a Marine in simple robes of green and white. He is immediately recognizable as a son of Corax: pale skin, long black hair and utterly black eyes. "Greetings Brothers. I am Micrastur of the Raptors Chapter. I have the honor to accompany your team on the upcoming mission. My chapters specialty is sniping, reconnaissance and lightning fast hit and run tactics - the other kill teams I have accompanied gave me the name "Hawkeye" for that reason. I will go to the shooting ranges after the choices are made to familiarize myself with the relics of the Deathwatch before the fight, who wants to accompany me?"
He speaks quick and quietly, without any unnecessary words, making his voice sound somewhat melancholic.

Space Wolf Long Fang 1

"Aye lad, of we have time I will come. You can put perfect little holes in them and I will destroy large chunks of them with the energy of miniature suns. In fact it would do us all good to see what we all can do, before a beverage to quench some thirst."

Outfitted in a terminator armor with a heavy flamer on his back and armed with an Executioner's Axe Loghir greets the new arrival:

"Well met brother, I would clasp arms with you were you not unarmored and I clad in this mobile fortress. I look forward to seeing you in action, your legion is famed for marksmanship. I do however need to familiarize myself with the capabilities of my new armor in the practice cages. I shall see you in the launch bay soon brother Hawkeye."

Loghir lumbers off to the practice cages to learn better how to control his new armor in battle.

Changed my avatar-picture. Didn't like the old one and this one looks like someone wearing a MK6 Helmet =D
Micrastur tags along with the team, as they equip themselves in the fast armory of the watch station, nodding to the words of the Space Wolf. "Indeed, knowledge of the abilities of every team member is key to good teamwork."
As the Apothecary in Terminator armor nears them with stomping steps, he bows to him. "I am honored to serve beside a Terminator Armor - they are a really rare sight in my chapter nowadays. Too much was lost in the past..."

Male Human Rank 1 Techmarine

"Do not let the armor fool you, Brother Raptor, he hasn't earned the Crux Terminatus just yet." Says Scorpelio as he walks past, Imperial Fist liveried Storm Shield in one hand, Thunderhammer over the shoulder.

"Either way, I will meet you all in the Launch Bays. I must meet with the Watch Stations Masters of the Forge and other Techmarines to wake our Ancient Brothers as well as prepare, bless, arm and rouse the Machine Spirits of the Vehicles that the Watch Captain has decreed that we shall be bringing to war alongside us."

And Scorpelio promptly heads off to the Forges to perform his non-combat duties.

"Brother Scorpelio speaks true Raptor, I haven't earned it yet. But they had heard about my deeds and thought it would save them time to get me fitted for one right away"

Loghir chuckles and winks

Male Adeptus Astartes Librarian; Wounds: 24/24; Fate: 3/3

In the background, the librarian can be seen equipping a jump-pack and he seems like he's not gonna take any other equipment.

Space Wolf Long Fang 1

"You take very little brother, this will be a hard fight I feel. Have you annoyed Orfeo the quartemaster, that grumpy old sod. Do you need me to have a word? He still owes me from Pazion VII. Pazion VII was a wet place, very wet and this was back in the days before Orfeo took over as quartermaster from Archives..."
As Ulf adjusts his position, you realise this may take some time, if he really gets going.

Male Adeptus Astartes Librarian; Wounds: 24/24; Fate: 3/3

Since the Son of Antaeus seems to never ever take off his helmet, it's difficult - if not impossible - to know what might cross his mind as he stares silently at Brother Ulf 'Elli'Yngvarr as the Space Wolf keeps talking about ancient times. The massive librarian stays almost motionless, looking down on the venerable astartes, for a good 10 seconds.

"I'm thinking about something... bigger... and strategically appropriate."

He then turns his back and walk toward the spatiodock sector of the fortress.

There's a rumor running in the watch fortress that Brother Antaeus was sent to Deathwatch not specifically because he earned this honour - although he obviously did - but because he was too much talkative compared to his brothers and chapter standards.
Brother Ulf certainly dreads at the idea of trying to have a conversation with a more "average" Son of Antaeus.

Space Wolf Long Fang 1

Haha love it!

Ulf's tendency to go on, has left him used to people cutting him short, but he does usually get at least one saga in. Shrugging his large shoulders Ulf heads off too the ranges to bore Micrastur.

I will have to work on him, there are so many sagas to tell him.

Male Human Rank 1 Techmarine

Scorpelio chuckles inaudibly, thanks to his helmet, seeing the interaction between the silent Witch and the Boisterous Long Fang before turning away and heading down to the Armorium to meet with his peers and those they answer to.

All the while, as he walks through the corridors leading to the Forges, his Servo-Arm flexes absentmindedly, his thoughts preoccupied by the Mission he and 75 of his brethren were to embark upon in the name of Vengeance for those fallen at the hands of the Greenskin pests.

As things start to get less serious and some members of the watch company take their time choosing their gear from the armoury.

Suddenly the door to the armoury is kicked open. Veteran sergeant Odesses is standing there fully armoured except for his helmet. He is yelling before the door has finished moving. "ALL RIGHT BOYS STOP YAMMERING LIKE UNWASHED INITIATES, We have received our orders from the Watch Captain and have Xenos waiting to die. Any marine not out of this room with all his gear in 3 minutes is staying behind on this mission and will have the entire station glowing with fresh coats of paint and polish on every surface before the rest of us return. Does any of this confuse anyone?"

the Veteran Sgt stares at everyone still in the armoury, daring anyone to ask a question.

Averruncus is already at the spatio-dock, discussing - with an economy of words - the details for his requisition of a Thunderhawk Gunship.

"Mission details on the flight I guess? Works for me." A thin voice comes from behind the yelling veteran.
The Brother speaking wears a strange Power Armor, obviously build from several different versions. The basic chassis seems to be the old Mk. 6 - with the unmistakable bird-like helmet while the chest plate is defiantly that of the new Mk. 8 armor. On top of that, the gauntlets seems to be those of a venerable Mk 5 with delicate, golden runes on the knuckles reading "CALM WRATH" in High Gothic. The armor is painted black, just one shoulder pad shows a deep green and the white head of a bird of prey. On the back of his armor idles a jump pack.

Micrastur is equipped with the best Bolt Gun inside the vaults of the fortress - a real masterwork of unknown origin and a mystery to many tech marines because of the number of machine spirits inside its chassis - and a rocket launcher. When exactly he did change from his informal robes into armor, none of his Brothers seems to have noticed.

Space Wolf Long Fang 1

Having been at the ranges, just long enough to zero in his cannon, Ulf hears the call of the Veteran Sgt and heads for the dock with the others. As the group gathers he pulls a flask from his belt.
"It appears we do not have time for the obligatory pre-battle feasting and drinking, but here is a little taster, I will save it until we have the chance to renew our oaths to our Emperor, father's and each other."

The watch company loads onto the strike cruiser under the watchful gaze of the watch captain and his veterans, you see all manner of exotic weaponry and gear among your brethren.

Averruncus is called with the rest of the librarians to aid in some kind of powerful psychic ritual to speed their progress towards the objective.

Scorpelio is called to aid in the rites of preparation for the three dreadnoughts that have been awakened for this mission.

Ancient Godfry of the Black Templar

Venerable Brother Paulus Buccio, Blackshield

Ancient Zhiqan of the Death Spctres

-------

Once you exit the warp the Watch captain calls for another briefing.

"The Emperor has smiled on us Brothers, we have arrived in system only 38 standard hours after we entered the warp. The Ork warboss has gathered all his greatest Nobs and lesser Bosses to be the spearhead of his assault. We will break that spearhead into a thousand shards, each squad assignment has been uploaded to your dataslates along with a rough outline of the overall plan which I will briefly cover on the holomap."

First Wave A wave of Deathstorm drop pods will land clearing the LZ. They will contain locator beacons to ensure that the second and third waves land on target.

Second Wave Squads Decious, Girart and Bessoneth will be the break that cuts the head from the body of the ork army deploying in drop pods, Ancient Zhiqan will aid them. Squad Albuin and Anauel will use jump packs to clear random squads of Nobs and ensure that ork jump infantry don't interfere with thunderhawks deploying tanks. Squads Loghir, Starkad, Isralfiel, Nilos and Shapur will engage the designated lesser bosses, Venerable Brother Paulus Buccio aiding.

Third Wave 4 Land raiders will teleport onto the battlefield, filled with the veterans of the company. We will carve our way to Skullcrumpa and end this menace once and for all.

----

As you look at your dataslate you see that your primary target is a lesser boss called Xorrakk Redscar. He is with his nobs and a trio of shamans aboard a vehicle designated Da Burna Bunka.

Da Burna Bunka?! I'll show these filthy xenos who's da burniest!

He liked the sound of Squad Loghir, but he knew the strength came from squad not Loghir Loghir chuckled to himself over his vanity

As they all gathered together to head for their thunderhawk, Loghir spoke to the squad

Alright brothers, we face a lesser ork boss called Xorrakk Redscar and his trio of shamans. We all come from different chapters and have different rituals and motivations, but we are ALL brother Astartes. WE SHALL NOT SUFFER THE ALIEN TO LIVE!"

Male Human Rank 1 Techmarine

"Throughout my Chapters History, the Orks have always been a thorn in our side and a menace and each time we bring them low and drive them back. Today shall be no different!" he said, hefting the Relic Stormshield bearing his Chapters heraldic Fist upon in.

"Should we perform our duty adequately we might just be there in time to strike at Skullcrumpa alongside the Third Wave."

"I've no doubt that the venerable Thunderhawk that Averruncus has put at our disposal will have no trouble turning this Burna Bunka into a smouldering pile of wreckage in short order."

Space Wolf Long Fang 1

As battle approaches you notice Ulf's demeanour has changed, no longer the acting as if he is old and his bones hurt, no longer the waffling long stories, he even has a sparkle in his eyes!
"Amongst my chapter there is the Saga of a warrior named Ranulf, he was a giant even amongst marines and his specially constructed armour, rests in the Fang even now. With just a single squad of Terminators, they held a pass for so long that they decimated the foe, who eventually retreated. We are many and so we can slaughter even more and destroy this Ork boss and his following."

Micrastur assesses the informations provided to the kill-team, noting every bit of it, looking for anything that might have been missed. "Glad that I brought that Rocket Launcher ... Mhh, any information about the LZ or the planet itself? What type is it? Ground conditions? Hills, Cover, sight conditions? Environmental dangers?"
How do you resolve Tactic rolls, Browman? I'll put a Tactic: Recon&Stealth below, looking over all information he can access to search for possible ambush places, good cover, possible location of the primary targets, etc
Tactic: Recon&Stealth 34: 1d100 ⇒ 80
After a while he leans back, closing his eyes and mutters a little prayer. This style of warfare is not his or his chapter favored one, and the information gathered are spare.
"Well, pure force has a quality of its own I think ...", he mutters after the prayer, only audible to those closest to him.
After that he went quiet and rechecks his newly acquired Bolter, paying special attention to the impossible complex machine spirits inside and the effects his his very own special marksman combat sight has on the relict.

Male Adeptus Astartes Librarian; Wounds: 24/24; Fate: 3/3

"Let's crush them with all our might. Let's be the Wrath of the Emperor" coldly says the Librarian as he leads his brothers inside the Thunderhawk Gunship, his jump-pack rudimentary machine spirit already roaring in anticipation of the fierce battle to come.
The Son of Antaeus seats at the gunner place in the cockpit.

Possibly my Thunderhawk is tasked with transporting another squad from the second wave?

A post battle feast will have to do. Or perhaps a during battle feast? Regardless, a feasting there will be.

Space Wolf Long Fang 1

Slapping his arm down on Rollo's shoulder, "Aye, we will feast when victory has been won and the Orks destroyed."

As you descend you see that all of the company's thunderhawks have been modified so that their wings shed flames as the pass through the atmosphere. You when you are about 30 seconds from the LZ you feel more than see the first wave of drop pods descending, a perfect ring of 10 slamming into the ground, alternating missiles and assault cannons. You can hear the sounds of missiles and gunfire as you approach.

When you are ready to deploy from the thunderhawk the first wave of marine filled pod lands, squads deploying to assigned objectives.

Below you is a mass of greenskins that is being divided and slaughtered by the fire of the drop pods.

Male Human Rank 1 Techmarine

Scorpelio prepares himself for their deployment, taking up his hammer and shield, standing tall and proud, maglocking his boots to the deck.

Silently he makes oaths to his Chapter, the Deathwatch, the Omnissiah and, above all else, his Primarch, Rogal Dorn.

To his progenitor he makes the most powerful vows, promising to rival if not surpass his Legionnaire Ancestors present at Ullanor.

Once done he readies himself.

Observing the mass battle below, Hawkeyes' hands snapping up, Bolter trained on the greenskins - although still secured inside the flyer. Whispering along the sight of his gun, he would all but impossible to hear, if he had not switched the team-only box open: "There are indeed enough Greenskins for us, Brothers. Pray not that we kill them, for that we will. Pray not that we survive, for that is our final faith. But pray that we will live long enough to fulfill our duties as the Emperors finest."

Male Adeptus Astartes Librarian; Wounds: 24/24; Fate: 3/3

When reaching the Loghir Squad deployment zone, Averruncus studies the battlefield and searches for the "Da Burna Bunka". I assume they got informations about what the vehicule looks like, otherwise it would be pointless to give them this target if they have no reliable way to identify it.

If necessary, here is a sight test. Target for the roll: 45 (base) + 10 (Enhanced Sight) + 10 (Autosens)
Perception: 1d100 ⇒ 14 Possibly I spot the Burna Bunka.

Tactical question: can a Thunderhawk Gunship perform stationnary fly?

"Team leader, instuctions for team deployment?"

Deploying the team right OVER the Burna Bunka would be so cool :)

"Aye. Brother Loghir, we have a Thunderhawks Turbo Laser at our disposal. Why not make use of it to turn this Burna Bunka into a smouldering crater? Would minimize and unwanted risk coming from whatever forsaken vehicle it is."

Loghir nods to Scorpelio
"Agreed brother Scorpelio, if possible lets have the thunderhawk turn the Burna Bunka into a wreck and then deploy 30m away and rain hell on them till they assault us. Dropping onto the vehicle would expose us to too much risk. Assuming the vehicle is named after its flamer capability it will be stocked with a lot of poorly stored prometheium, as this is an ork vehicle it will be travelling at an unsafe speed and will crash when the psychotic driver decides on a fiery death or simply loses control due to his inherent ork nature."

To Averruncus he adds
"Best option would be approaching it immobile I agree. But if we can't stop it, deploying 200m ahead in its path would give us between 12 and 6 seconds to take the vehicle out before they reach us, assuming their speed is between 60-120 km/h, this might actually mean we have 9 to 3 seconds to take it out to avoid the wreck crashing into us. As I said, this would need to be done where we wouldn't deploy in a mob of orks."

I need to know a few things about the tactical situation and our options:
- Can the Thunderhawk perform static fly?
- Is the battlefortress surrounded by hordes of running greenskin? Or is it surrounded by many smaller vehicles? Or maybe it's alone at the tip of the assault?

A thunderhawk can Hover, yes.

As to the other, I wouldn't know. Currently, I'm resisting the urge to call out the Warboss :P

The stormboyz are about 40 meters away, if you hover they will be able to attack the thunderhawk next round.

The Da Burna Bunka has orks on it's sides and rear with some smaller vehicles like bikes and buggies.
